[Bug 735452] Re: IOMonitor Plugin does not use optimal /proc parameter to find process PID
One more piece of useful information. Processes without a /proc/PID/cmdline can be easily identified in the ps list, in that they have their process names placed inside square brackets. From the ps man page: args COMMANDcommand with all its arguments as a string. Modifications to the arguments may be shown. The output in this column may contain spaces. A process marked defunct is partly dead, waiting to be fully destroyed by its parent. Sometimes the process args will be unavailable; when this happens, ps will instead print the executable name in brackets. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735452 Title: IOMonitor Plugin does not use optimal /proc parameter to find process PID -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 735369] [NEW] Bacula Admin Tool (bat) does not work well with Qt 4.6.2 in Lucid
The new version of Bacula (5.2.0) to be released in about a month has a number of fixes, and will work perfectly with Qt 4.6.2 (Lucid) where I have done the development work. There have been quite a number of enhancements and a lot of stability improvements in bat 5.2.0. As I previously reported, bat uses Qt, which has some important compatiblity problems between versions. Hopefully the new 5.2.0 bat will also work on Maveric. These don't make a difference. I believe I've isolated the problem to 2.6.38 series kernels and can consistently have the device connect with 2.6.37 but not 2.6.38. [Bug 735341] Re: adduser creates expired system user
I had a look at postgresql-common's postinst, and tried to invoke the same command it uses to add the user (just changed the user name): $ sudo adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/postgresql --no-create-home --shell /bin/bash --group --gecos PostgreSQL administrator testuser Your account has expired; please contact your system administrator chfn: PAM authentication failed adduser: `/usr/bin/chfn -f PostgreSQL administrator testuser' returned error code 1. Exiting. If I remove the --gecos option, it works fine: $ sudo adduser --system --quiet --home /var/lib/postgresql --no-create-home --shell /bin/bash --group testuser $ echo $? 0 If I run the chfn command manually, it fails: $ sudo /usr/bin/chfn -f PostgreSQL administrator testuser Your account has expired; please contact your system administrator chfn: PAM authentication failed So I think this might be a problem in passwd rather than adduser. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735341 Title: adduser creates expired system user -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 681083] Re: Ubuntu Crashes/Freeze on XenMotion
Apparently we got hit by confusion. Usually Xen in Lucid means the ec2 topic branch. But in this case this is the generic kernel. [Bug 656745] Re: notebook always crashes if on battery (dell vostro 3700 and others)
@Miroslav, Looking at the iwl driver it has a workaround for a H/W bug that addresses instability on the PCIe bus L0-L0S-L1 transitions and disables L0S. The workaround seems to check the PCI configuration as set by the firmware, hence this may a reason for the bug. Currently I suspect the following scenario: 1. The driver can workaround a bug in the H/W, if the firmware has configured the PCI space correctly. 2. We may not have the PCI_CFG_LINK_CTRL_VAL_L1_EN bit set correctly, so the driver can't work around the H/W bug which disables L0S. 3. The link management may be then transitioning the H/W to L0S and we get into the situation where it appears the wireless H/W disappears when the link power management kicks in. 4. We see errors like HARDWARE GONE?? INTA == 0x which seems to confirm this. So, can you attach the output of sudo lspci - so I can eyeball the config space and see if this is what is happening. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/656745 Title: notebook always crashes if on battery (dell vostro 3700 and others) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I experienced the same problem on my Acer AS3810T, on Maverick. However, it seems to be fixed in os-prober version = 1.40 (see last message in the thread for this bug on debian.org, [1]). I installed the .deb for os-prober (version 1.42) from natty, found here[2], and ran the commands: $ sudo os-prober $ sudo update-grub Now, everything works fine :-) I hope os-prober v1.42 can be backported to maverick. [Bug 735452] Re: IOMonitor Plugin does not use optimal /proc parameter to find process PID
It occurred to me just after writing this bug report, that some people may be using the current functionality of the regex search of the cmdline to find a particular instance of a process based on its args. So a better enhancement idea may be to keep the current functionality of scanning the /proc/PID/cmdline with the regex expression while adding a second regex search of the Name: field in the /proc/PID/status file using the same expression. Then monitor the PID if either of the two searches successfully finds a match using the regex search (a logical OR of the two searches, with only one match required to declare the PID monitored) This would preserve existing functionality of allowing a more specific search of the cmdline (with arguments), should the use specify a more complex regex that will match specifically a given cmdline for a particular process. It would also now enable the monitoring of a set of processes that lack a cmdline (such as NFSD) if the user specifies just the process name for the regex search, which will be found by the search of the Name: field in the status file.
[Bug 735452] Re: IOMonitor Plugin does not use optimal /proc parameter to find process PID
Hi there, Thank you for reporting bugs and trying to make Ubuntu better. I'll take a look at this later this week however, after a quick look /proc/PID/status I found that under the field name, some processes names that are long might not show the complete name, i.e.: $ cat status Name: chromium-browse Note that the complete name of the process is not shown when it should. This might affect regex's for daemons which name's too long. In turn, cmdline shows: $ cat cmdline /usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --type=extension --lang=en-US --force-fieldtest=ConnCountImpact/conn_count_8/ConnnectBackupJobs/ConnectBackupJobsEnabled/DnsImpact/max_2s_queue_prefetch/DnsParallelism/parallel_14/GlobalSdch/global_enable_sdch/IdleSktToImpact/idle_timeout_60/Prefetch/ContentPrefetchDisabled/ProxyConnectionImpact/proxy_connections_32/SpdyCwnd/cwnd16/SpdyImpact/npn_with_spdy/ --channel=4516.0x7f839042d000.717038638 Cheers, ** Changed in: powernap (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: powernap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/735452 Title: IOMonitor Plugin does not use optimal /proc parameter to find process PID -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
