[Bug 748528] Re: Empathy does not save any preferences, such as enable/disable spell checking, message log etc.

[Bug 748698] Re: Empathy Internet Messaging - Crashing when idle
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a ".crash" file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding. ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: empathy (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748698 Title: Empathy Internet Messaging - Crashing when idle -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just a few hours new to Natty, but the app menu is driving me insane - even after returning to Gnome/Classic desktop I can't get rid of it. It appears to be affecting my ability to move and/or min/max windows. I've adjusted many settings and so far can not fix the issue. I'd like the ability to turn the global menu off from within settings, particularly given this is a major change to how I set up my layers/windows. I am frustrated with the sudden inability to work in my normal fashion. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/734325 Title: Natty: Users should be able to easily turn off (disbable) global menu -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 748831] [NEW] Volume notification is based on previous volume; should be based on the new volume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-sound When I change the volume with the mouse wheel, a notification bubble now appears by default. [Bug 748805] Re: Sound level icon is inconsistent with gnome-settings-daemon notifications
Okay, I am attaching a branch that fixes this. It's my first time patching a patch (or using quilt), but hopefully I did it right :) I decided to change our patch for gnome-settings-daemon, since the existing stuff was a little complex and it wouldn't look pretty inside indicator-sound. (I assume the settings daemon patch inherits that complexity from the original overlay, which had a fancy fading effect). With that said, the current gnome-settings-daemon patch is probably more consistent with upstream Gnome, so if there is a valid reason to do that here we should patch indicator-sound instead. I discovered that the issue with indicator-sound's notification is unrelated: it generates a notification based on the previous state, instead of the new state. [Bug 748320] Re: Blank screen (no GUI) after installation of NVidia proprietary driver on Sony Vaio Z119GS
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg - I am testing Natty 20110328 Live Desktop CD for amd64, as part of the Xorg-prop-drivers-testers group. - My notebook is a Sony Vaio VPC Z119GC (Intel Core i7-620M CPU and 4 gigabytes of RAM). The hardware switch above the keyboard on my machine has 2 settings ‘speed’ and ‘stamina’ - * When set to ‘Speed’, the machine uses the NVidia GeForce® GT 330M GPU). I always leave it on the Speed setting. - * When set to ‘Stamina’, the machine uses the motherboard’s Intel chipset for graphics. - NVidia proprietary drivers have never installed and run properly on Sony Vaio VPC Z series models when using standard installation procedures (either Desktop Live CD, Alternate CD, 32 bit or 64 bit installers). I have tried and failed to install NVidia proprietary drivers for Karmic, Lucid, Maverick and now Natty. The best you get is a relatively unresponsive blank screen. You never get in to the GUI. The problem likely occurs on all Sonys with model numbers starting in Z11 and Z13 and possibly more, making this a problem that applies to tens of thousands of notebooks. + I'm testing the NVidia Proprietary Driver on the Natty 20110328 daily Live Desktop amd64 CD for the Xorg team. + My Sony Vaio VPC Z119GC has a NVidia GeForce GT 330M. + + I've tried many times to install Ubuntu and an NVidia proprietary driver + since I got my Vaio a year ago (on Karmic, Lucid, Maverick and now + Natty). The best I ever get is a blank screen (no GUI). The default + vesa driver now works on Natty, which is a big improvement on previous + distos, which were completely unuseable. I've read that other Sony + Vaios with model numbers starting in Z11 and Z13 have the same problem. The following is the list of results I get when I try to go through the steps in the "Installation" mandatory testcase for "Nvidia Proprietary Drivers" using Natty Daily Live CD 20110328: 1. Boot stock system on compatible video hardware, using the appropriate open source driver (or -vesa). By default, Ubuntu boots with the open source driver. RESULT: No problems. 2. Note the contents of /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or simply note absence of the file) RESULT: The file is absent. 3. Go to System : Administration : Hardware Drivers 4. Verify that it correctly identifies that a video driver is available for this hardware RESULT: The system nominates "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version -current)" (as is expected/normal) 5. Install the recommended driver. RESULT: No problem. 6. Verify that a *.ko file is installed properly for the correct kernel(s) find /lib/modules/ -type f -ls -iname '*.ko' | grep -E "/nvidia-current.ko|/nvidia-173.ko|/nvidia-96.ko|/fglrx.ko" - Check that the timestamp of the file is correct. + Check that the timestamp of the file is correct. I'm now hearing it in (only) the right channel for the first time that I recall. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/709869 Title: Noise in left channel with USB audio device -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 730225] Re: grub-install trashes the ntfs partition that starts at sector 63 if one or more sectors in the embedding area is occupied by Adobe FlexNet
Just trash it using dd. Flexnet should be rewriting a new copy of signature in a new place next time related application runs. Or you can do the following workaround: cat /boot/grub/lnxboot.img /boot/grub/core.img > /somewhere_you_have_write_access/grldr then copy the file to a Windows partition add a corresponding item to boot.ini (might not work) or bcd (verified by myself) that points to grldr and dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc when prompted to select on which disk or partition will grub be installed on, uncheck the disk (i.e./dev/sda) but check the partition (i.e. /dev/sda4 or so) on which you install Ubuntu. By doing all those above, you'll let Windows boot managers take over Ubuntu's. But remember, when you encounter with "grub" and "grub-pc" software package updates in Ubuntu, it's suggested to re-generate grldr afterwards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730225 Title: grub-install trashes the ntfs partition that starts at sector 63 if one or more sectors in the embedding area is occupied by Adobe FlexNet -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 748622] Re: The 3 finger selection function is not enabled for ALPS Glidepoint Touchpad
To clarify, the only features that do work, are mouse functions with a right edge scroll. I have an Acer Aspire One AO532h. I tried all the advice that worked for some but had resigned to living with minimal functionality until someone is able to come up with a fix. If this is being detected as a PS2 mouse it would seem like I need to remove any reference to it as I don't even have a PS2 port. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748622 Title: The 3 finger selection function is not enabled for ALPS Glidepoint Touchpad -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
