[Bug 656526] Re: Device or resource busy while trying to open
I confirm that this bug affects ubuntu 10.10 live CD, and that a 9.10 liveCD works perfectly. A friend of mine couldn't boot into Ubuntu 10.10 anymore, after a hard shutdown ("no init found" etc) Luckily I found this bug report, thank you guys! It would be nice for the noobs to have an easy way to fix the filesystem when grub can't boot it. [Bug 616605] Re: hp dm1z ALPS touchpad not detected, scroll doesn't work
Any chance the patch applied to the kenel in bug 632884 could also be applied to the HP dm1z? It would address this bug. I commented out the model number checking in alps.c in kernel 2.6.38-8-generic so that the quirks are always enabled, and tested the module on my dm1z. No synaptics stuff, but at least the scrolling works with the dell quirks enabled, which makes using the computer MUCH less frustrating. However, I'm not very experienced at this so I'm not sure how to extract the model number of the touchpad to post it so that the dell quirks can be enabled for the dm1z specifically to allow scrolling on this model for everyone. [Bug 768803] [NEW] Unity stopped working after update
Public bug reported: After updating my machine on 4-20, Unity stopped working, loading the backup gnome desktop. I've tried all three drivers, to no avail, Additional Drivers says that they are not in use, any of them. I also tried a new, clean install, and all 3 drivers work, until I update. I've been using the beta since it's release, so I know this is a recent issue. I apologize for not including more information, such as error logs, but no error was reported, and I'm not sure where it broke. Re: [Bug 753930] Re: Unity does not appear
If nothing loaded, it may have been caused by your user not having proper permissions on the new home directory. If you created it using root, this may be the case. I'd suggest you try it again: log out of gnome switch to console mv /home/ /home/.old mkdir /home// cp -pr /etc/skel /home// chown -R : /home/ now log back in to gnome using gdm Sorry for not being able to provide the exact config directory that is causing the issue. [Bug 766740] Re: GrubInstaller failed with code 1
The problem was fixed in the April 21st daily build. It appears this is a duplicate of bug 765270 . On a related note, installing on the Samsung Series 9 with the above partition table results in a non-bootable system. The Series 9 uses the Sandy Bridge chipset, and is EFI. I had to manually specify a /boot/efi partition of type EFI before the installation would work. I can live with that; I bring it up because it might be a good idea to mention it in the 11.04 release notes. [Bug 500526] Re: usb-creator silently ignores invalid ISO files without warning the user.
You get the same silent rejection if the ISO simply lacks /.disk/info , e.g. a Fedora 15 ISO or ReactOS ISO, see bug 705353 (which perhaps should be made a dupe of this). To add to Mr. Greening's analysis, as I commented in bug 705353, there seems to be a logic error in 10.10's usbcreator/backends/udisks/backend.py . It doesn't test if the output of `isoinfo -J -i /path/to/Some.iso -x /.disk/info` is an empty string , so it doesn't realize it's failed, so its logging error 'Could not extract .disk/info.' is never reached! That code has a "# TODO evand 2009-07-26: Error dialog.", but maybe base/backend.py should trigger the error dialog. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500526 Title: usb-creator silently ignores invalid ISO files without warning the user. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 705353] Re: usb-creator doesn't accept iso file
I suspect the issue here is that the ReactOS .iso does not have a /.disk/info file, which seems to be a Debian/Ubuntu-specific convention, and usb-creator silently rejects the disk. I'm having the same problem with a Fedora 15 beta .iso. @Kamus, in Ubuntu 10.10 even the log file you mention contains nothing, because the _is_casper() check in /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/usbcreator/backends/udisks/backend.py does not test if the output of `isoinfo -J -i /path/to/Some.iso -x /.disk/info` is an empty string , so it doesn't realize it's failed, so the logging error 'Could not extract .disk/info.' is never reached! The code has a "# TODO evand 2009-07-26: Error dialog." that remains undone. Perhaps this bug should be made a dupe of bug 500526. The Launchpad description "A tool to take Ubuntu CDs and ISO files and write them in a usable form to USB disks." hints at this limitation, but the package description "create a startup disk using a CD or disc image" does not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705353 Title: usb-creator doesn't accept iso file -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Mine is a GeForce 6100 and my windows are now white now too. I'm not sure when they stopped being black as I had not tested it in awhile. *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 691985 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/691985 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, the package installation error message that you have received is actually a failure with lzma and a generic one at that. The following steps may help resolve the issue. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again as this may resolve your issue. We plan to make lzma errors more informative and that work is being tracked in bug 691985 which I will mark this a duplicate of. ** Tags added: lzma-efail ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 691985 lzma: Encoder error: -2147467259 is too vague and causes unhelpful apport-package reports * You can subscribe to bug 691985 by following this link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/udev/+bug/691985/+subscribe -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/768701 Title: package initramfs-tools 0.98.8ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
