[Bug 769652] Re: tab display is degraded, must be opened up in a new window

2011-04-29 Thread ubuntu_user
I've confirmed the same problem that was reported above.

I have a "Checking" Account Name under the Accounts tab. When I double
click it I see The green banner of column names {Date | Num |
Description | Transfer | R| Deposit | Withdrawal | Balance (ignore the
'|' between column names - I just used it to separate the names). At
the very bottom I see the summary of my account with (Present: $xx
Future: $xx: Cleared: $xx Reconciled $xx Projected Minimum: $xx). Here
again the $xx, are my amounts. Right above the summary is a cut off $
Grand total: $xx line.

Other than that everything is unchanged as it appears as if the Checking
tab wasn't ever opened. In other words everything else on the page
shows as if the Accounts tab was the only tab.

What is probably going to make this problem difficult to debug is that I
don't see this on all of my accounts. Just this one. I have another
account which opens fine in the tab when I double click it. The issue
that I am seeing with my "Checking" Account Name is repeatable.

Wow.

Jean-Baptiste, how can I thank you enough? That fixed the problem. How did you
figure it out?
Now, if only I can get the desktop-cube back :) I'll keep searching...

Thanks again!

[Bug 773789] [NEW] Distribution upgrade to 11.04 failed silently when directory has wrong permission

2011-04-29 Thread Howard Cheng
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I tried to upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04 using update-manager started from
the System menu. I clicked "Upgrade" to bring up the release notes, and
then clicked "Upgrade" again. At this point I get the release notes
window closes and I get back the previous window (the one when update
manager first starts). There was no indication of what has gone wrong
(or even that anything had gone wrong).

When I ran update-manager from command line, I see the following error
message:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py", line
962, in on_button_dist_upgrade_clicked
fetcher.run()
  File
"/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/UpdateManager/Core/DistUpgradeFetcherCore.py",
 line 247, in run
if not self.fetchDistUpgrader():
  File
"/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/UpdateManager/Core/DistUpgradeFetcherCore.py",
 line 217, in fetchDistUpgrader
result = fetcher.run()
SystemError: E:Archives directory /var/cache/apt/archives/partial is missing. -
Acquire (13: Permission denied)

Somehow my directory has the wrong permission. That was easily fixed.

The "bug" here is that the error message should be reported so the user
can do something about it, and not just fail silently leaving the user
waiting to see if anything is happening (though I could tell from ps
that nothing was happening).

[Bug 732050] Re: Dual display blanks both screens . Can only see the cursor

2011-04-29 Thread david
Same here. 11.04 AMD64, Thinkpad X201T + Dell 24" LCD connected to the x200
ultrabase.
No problem at GDM but

in Ubuntu/Ubuntu classic mode
1) Only see a spinning cursor on both screens after login ( if both screens are
turn on)
2) Only see a spinning cursor on laptop's screen ( if external monitor is turn
off)

in Ubuntu classic no-effects mode
1) Both screens go black ( if both screens are turn on)
2) laptop's LCD display correctly ( if external monitor is turn off)

Fn + F7 has no effects on me.

xrandr -q can detect my DP1 is connecting to the external display, but

xrandr --output DP1 --mode 1920x1200 --preferred --primary --output
LVDS1 --off --output HDM1 --off

is not working.

2011-04-29 Thread Eugene
... and finally microphone in Ubuntu 11.04 Unity 2D workes after
removing pulseaudio (because of it no volume control on panel). Still
have interrupts in line 16 but much lower. So, I guess problem was in
pulseaudio. I do not know if pulseaudio can be fixed, but removing it
worked for me. (hope it will work more than a day :-)

Why is importance set to low? I simply can't use Gajim on natty without
having patched it. Does at least a fresh natty install work well? I

[Bug 766549] Re: et131x: cannot connect to wired network after hibernate

2011-04-29 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Yes, later I noticed this should not be a regression. I didn't saw
before that in fact et131x is missing suspend/resume hooks, so any
kernel version should fail, and the original error in first dmesg you
posted is another problem (which the fix I included in first kernel
works).

I implemented suspend/resume support, and uploaded a new kernel to the same
previous url, please download and check
linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42+lp766549r2_i386.deb

Do the usual suspend/resume test you did, and attach here the dmesg.

If it works, then please also test these cases:
- boot without network cable, suspend, resume, and after this attach cable

- suspend without cable, attach the cable before resume, and resume the machine.

In all cases you should not have problems after resume, if there is any
issue please report. If everything works, I'll submit the patch upstream
and work to integrate it into Ubuntu.

Re: [Bug 648180] Re: Unity is not an adequate replacement for Gnome2 (and sucks a little bit less then it used to)

2011-04-29 Thread Sam "SmSpillaz" Spilsbury
Please stop changing the bug title and please don't use this bug as a
meta-bug to complain about how things are different. If you have an
issue with the way Unity is designed or an issue with stability or an
issue with something not working the way it should then file a
separate bug detailing your issue under ayatana-design, unity or
compiz.

Every time you comment on this bug with a separate issue or change the
bug title, the developers get more bug spam to deal with every
morning, and this makes them less productive and less likely to fix
the bugs that you want fixed.

[Bug 772050] Re: My backlight is off

2011-04-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
@Samuel
As Lucas says, reporting this bug in linux in Ubuntu was appropriate. But
you're right too--it should be reported upstream if it hasn't already. And this
bug should be linked to the upstream bug report (with the "Also affects
project" link near the top of this bug page). Do you know whether or not it's
been reported upstream at https://bugzilla.kernel.org? Do you have links to bug
reports for this from other distros?

[Bug 636711] Re: 10.10 can't mount squashfs file system

2011-04-29 Thread Dngrsone
I have this problem with ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso and
ubuntu-11.04-desktop-i386.iso downloaded from both the main site and
torrent.

MD5 checksums match. Content burned to CD-R using Brasero through
Ubuntu 10.4-desktop-amd64 on an HP Pavilion DV4 (DV4-1200US) which is
what I was trying to load the live disc on.

With both Operating Systems the live OS could not be loaded and the
CDROM won't read afterword-- I have to eject the CD and reinsert it (or
completely turn off the laptop) if I want to try booting off the CD
again.

[Bug 311179] Re: libparted does not return the correct devices to ubiquity

2011-04-29 Thread gregdavisfromnj
I tried installing onto a nested fakedraid and since 9.10, have never
gotten it to install. This bug seems to be the problem, and removing
the patch as described here got me close to complete. The Grub2 didn't
seem to like the nested fakeraid, at that point. Anyway trying just now
with 11.04, dmraid doesn't seem active when the installer is run
straight from boot. When you have the option to try or install, click
"try" to start the livecd, and use a terminal to execute "sudo dmraid
-ay", which will start the device mapper. Then you can click the
shortcut on the desktop folder to install, and the RAID partitions will
be there. Whether or not this bug bites you then, is another question.

[Bug 773770] [NEW] Ubiquity doesn't allow you to assign custom mount points

2011-04-29 Thread Reuben Firmin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

The new 11.04 installer is very nice, but it didn't allow me to assign
custom mount points to my many partitions. My only options were to
choose from the preexisting menu, or not mount them. I chose the latter
and now my only option would appear to be to edit fstab. Not a huge
deal, but not noob friendly.

[Bug 592114] Re: upstart doesn't start cron automatically on boot in lucid for server on amd64

2011-04-29 Thread Rob Rushworth
Happy to help.

I checked the whole of syslog back to January and see no mention of
"cronlogger" there either. Same for the whole daemon log.

Cron didn't run at boot after booting with the edited cron.conf file.
I removed the edit last night and booted again this morning. Cron not running
after boot this morning. Attached are the syslog entries for the cron.conf edit
boot and the following original, unedited cron.conf boot.

Cheers

Rob

[Bug 773762] [NEW] Non-pinned icons for running applications will not maintain their position in the Unity Bar

2011-04-29 Thread andreic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

If I move a non-pinned icon for a running application to the middle of
the Unity Bar (middle = having applications above and below it) and then
I minimize and restore this application, the icon will be moved to the
bottom of the Unity Bar. This makes it confusing as users usually
arrange their icons and expect them to keep their positions unchanged.

[Bug 773763] [NEW] evolution freeze on startup with the plug-in "evolution-rss"

2011-04-29 Thread druzy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I use ubuntu 11.04.
The version of evolution is : 2.32.2-0ubuntu7
The version of rss-evolution is : 0.2.2-0ubuntu1

When I open evolution without option, It freezes after 2 seconds, but when I
open evolution with the command "evolution --disable-eplugin", It works.
So I think plugin evolution-rss is the problem.

[Bug 773759] [NEW] Blank screen after clean install

2011-04-29 Thread Judson
Public bug reported:

Clean install of 11.04 yielded blank screen on reboot.

The only message after the boot loader was a text across the top that
said "No video mode selected"... (this was before the login screen ...)

I was able to fix the problem by booting up in safe mode (at the boot
loader, by selecting a different kernel) and installing the proprietary
driver for my NVIDIA card (GE force 7100)

I had also tried an upgrade from 10.10 to 11.04... and that ended with a
blank desktop screen (unity doesn't automatically start).

[Bug 773761] [NEW] Screen dim does not work on Natty using nvidia-current drivers

2011-04-29 Thread Rodrigo Delgado
Public bug reported:

I am trying to dim the screen of my Vostro 3400 laptop equipped with a
nVidia GeForce 310M video card using Ubuntu Natty 11.04 nvidia-current
drivers and it does not work. This feature was OK using Ubuntu 10.10 and
the same driver package. The system shows the dim bar when I press the
key combination to do so, but the screen bright does not change. The
nvidia kernel driver module is already loaded and seems to be working
along with the X.org distribution shipped on Natty.

[Bug 573259] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 makes RTL8111/8168B network card unusable until cold reboot

2011-04-29 Thread donde
I have this bug too, but a bit different. Loaded 10.10 on Asus eeeBox
EB1007. No wired LAN connection after boot. Wireless is OK. I can solve
this by unplugging LAN cable just for a second and replug it back in. I
can also get a connection by doing sudo ifconfig eth0 down, and then
sudo ifconfig eth0 up. I tried 10.04 LiveCD, and 9.10. Same problem. Put
XP on the EB1007 box. No problem connecting. Today, I installed 11.04 on
the box. Same problem. Can you please help? ASUS cannot, even though
they used to be a Linux advocate! I have their original eeePC running
Atheros. I like this little EB1007, Again, could you please figure out a
fix? It would be OK with a bash script to do the ifconfig routine, but
have not been able to get it to work, for the command is owned by root.
I tried sudoers, but no joy. Thanks, donde

[Bug 648180] Re: Unity is not an adequate replacement for Gnome2 (and sucks a little bit less then it used to)

2011-04-29 Thread andy16666
"You know you can go back to Gnome 2."

Yes, I know. My wife has already opted to do so. She tried Unity for
about 2 days, thought it was some kind of sick joke and requested that I
"fix" her computer.

I'm a ten year Linux veteran and I figured we were finally getting
somewhere with this Linux on the desktop thing. Often when a piece of
software is this badly designed, you just throw it away and start over.
Treat it as a learning experience. In this case I think there are some
good ideas floating around. :) They're just in the wrong place, behave
the wrong way, and provide the wrong functionality. :-P And if I can
stay and help "fix" unity, I'm just stubborn enough that I will.

[Bug 654768] Re: compositor produces artefacts starting in maverick

Fwiw, I did not experience this issue in maverick, only in natty. And I
don't use metacity compositing, just the non-composited environment. So
possibly I have the same symptoms but a different bug?

[Bug 654768] Re: [i965gm] compositor produces artefacts starting in maverick

2011-04-29 Thread Bryce Harrington
Think I'm seeing this same behavior from time to time, on an -ati
system. In fact I reported it upstream as a driver bug before finding
this report:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36699

So like the commenter above I think it's not a problem specific to
-intel. Think this is the same as bug #708749 which is -nvidia. That
user also found that killing metacity made the regions go away. So I
think it's not an X issue at all, but I'll leave it open against xorg-
server until it's more definitively understood.

[Bug 773751] [NEW] With nvidia twinview, wayland "right snap" happens only on the right of the right monitor

2011-04-29 Thread Reuben Firmin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wayland

With a single monitor, hovering a window at the right of the screen
gives you the option to have it fill half the screen. If you have two
monitors with nvidia twinview, this option only applies on the right
hand of the right monitor.

[Bug 486303] Re: Every illegal character aren't well detected and forbidden

2011-04-29 Thread Yuv
Bonjour Thibault

I don't like to see you ending this participation with bad feelings. I
understand that from your perspective you are making an effort to
contribute, and you are using your valuable time for this. I tried to
identify positives in your contribution and I must honestly say that the
only thing I came up with is effort. And a lot of it.

If I may give you a feedback regarding this interaction, you need to be
more patient and consider the effect of your efforts on others.

Please consider that it is not only your time, but also the time of
those that read the reports and act on them. When you post the patch
twice in two different places (mailing list and bug tracker), it is more
work for us (two downloads, that must be compared to make sure that they
are really the same, and if not to find out which one is the newer/right
one).

Furthermore, when you write on the ML "I'm not on the ML, don't forget
me in your eventual answers.", it puts the onus of not forgetting you on
eventual replier. If you want a reply, it is up to you to make the
effort to receive it; and if you send something to an ML, it is the
minimum respect and courtesy for those whose time is used reading your
post to go back to that ML and read their replies.

As far as testing is concerned, best practice is to use the latest
repository version, or at least a version after the fix. If you can't
build yourself, for whatever reason, wait until you can get a binary
produced after the fix. If you relies on the nightlies, wait for a more
recent nightly to be available. This may mean waiting a day or two. Or
more if the nightlies-process is broken, as it sometimes happens, but it
is important to respect the time of those reading the feedback.
Feedback on a version prior to Thomas modification is a waste of time -
yours and ours.

Ultimately, it seems to me that you lack patience. I did not look if
you posted first on the bug tracker or first on the mailing list, but it
seems to me that you did not wait for feedback and just re-posted. You
did not wait for the change to propagate to the binary that you use for
testing, resulting in testing against an obsolete binary that wasted the
time of everybody involved - including you.

You are welcome to contribute again. Just learn to be patient and adapt
to the project's pace and communication means. If you are not sure, ask
(e.g. ask if a patch is better posted on the ML or in the BT).

Yuv

[Bug 754513] Re: Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/auto/Wx/Wx.so

2011-04-29 Thread aaron rowe
To workaround this, I removed the libwx-perl and related dependency
livwx-perl-processstream-perl and then installed Wx module from CPAN and
Wx and also Padre is now working.

In the interests of full disclosure I'm also using Padre from a CPAN
build rather than the ubuntu package.
