[Bug 758026] Re: Left pixel of launcher is not clickable on session start

2011-05-16 Thread Didier Roche
if I xprop on it, it seems to be the compiz "edge" detection eating
mouse click:

_NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS(ATOM) = _NET_WM_ACTION_ABOVE, _NET_WM_ACTION_BELOW
XdndAware(ATOM) = ARC

My feeling is that the launcher is stack below this x window at startup. Then,
when we show it again, it's restacked above.
I think Jason or Sam will have more input than I on it.

Exactly.

Nobody is expecting an auto merge here.

This is the standard distribution package as uploaded automatically to
Bzr being built on that distribution by the Launchpad builder system.

And currently for this package it doesn't work.

[Bug 777558] Re: gconfd continuously writing to disk at more than 100K/s

2011-05-16 Thread Paul McGarry
I think this may have something to do with gnome-wm.

My .xsession-errors is continuously being written to (it's now 853M in
size) with:

Window manager warning: Screen 0 on display ":0" already has a window
manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current window
manager.

and gnome-wm seems to keep being respawned:

paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm

paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
4142
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm

paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm
paulm@noobuntu:~$ pgrep gnome-wm

Executing:
killall gnome-wm

seems to have stopped the respawning and now gconfd is not causing
noticable IO

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aptdaemon

Exception is thrown when one cancels a package download. I do not have
any further unapplied updates right now so I am unable to reproduce the
bug at the moment.

As I am using an external apt repository (namely the VirtualBox one) and
apt-daemon was in the process of fetching an update from there it is
quite possible that this only gets triggered for third-party
repositories.

[Bug 783825] [NEW] window's title bar disappears

2011-05-16 Thread tim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

window has no title bar. I can not move or resize the window. Visual Effects is
"None" (By default, I choose "Normal", but it changed to "None" by itself). If
I choose "Normal" again, the title bar appears, but next time I boot my laptop,
the problem comes back. I add "metacity" and "compiz" to the startup
application list, and it solves the problem, but a more serious problem comes
that a process with no name but a big pid (>1 or >2) runs, then it
terminates immediately and a new process (still no name) with a bigger pid
runs. It looks like a endless loop, and my CPU gets hot, the display slows down.
I know my laptop is an old one with legacy hardware, but Ubuntu 9.10 works fine
on it, the display is good, and wireless netcard works fine. Now 10.04 does not
support them any more. :-(

[Bug 783819] [NEW] Copied podcasts don't show up on iPod. This has been reported as fixed, yet still persists on v2.0

2011-05-16 Thread John Artman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

I'm running Natty 11.04 and trying to get into Banshee and see what it
can do. There is a serious problem with the way it handles podcasts on
an iPod.

I'd imported other podcasts using gPodder and then wanted to import
music from Banshee. Everything's fine. Then I go my podcasts (Main
Menu > Podcasts) only to find that it says I have nothing there. I
reconnect and in Banshee everything looks fine.

However, now I can't get gPodder to recognize that the iPod is
connected. GTKPod says everything is there, but another (and wrong)
playlist has been created called "Podcasts." Now I have two.

So, what if I download the podcasts in Banshee and transfer them in
Banshee? Same problem!

This bug is four years old
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/banshee/+bug/140489) and according to
Launchpad has already been fixed when, in fact, it has not.

Serious oversight!

[Bug 749817] Re: natty regression: screen goes black when external monitor is connected

2011-05-16 Thread matthew
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 745112 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745112

Affects me on Thinkpad T410 w/ Intel integrated graphics. External
screen connected via display port. Screen set to span both displays.
When I start the computer, external display is blank. Then I need to
shut down, start up again for external screen to show.

Both screens show different resolutions (external screen is higher
resolution than laptop screen). Sometimes, when I go into monitor
settings, and change the resolution, and apply the settings, the desktop
does not re-render correctly (parts of the screen are missing or
corrupted and I need to reboot).

[Bug 782614] Re: make configuring DNSSEC validation easier

2011-05-16 Thread Anand Kumria
All versions of BIND that Ubuntu has ever published could do with improvements
in making DNSSEC easier.

However, as noted in the linked instructions, the specific suggestions
apply to Bind 9.7+

Which, according to http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=bind9 is
Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) and later.

Thanks,
Anand

[Bug 765290] Re: Nautilus-actions and Unity Desktop - actions missing from context menu

2011-05-16 Thread Rocko
nautilus-actions didn't even run the commands I told it to in Natty!
Even when I told it to tell me the output, nothing happened.

But I got the latest version from git (3.1.3) installed in Natty and it
seems to work fine. (You get a new menu item called Nautilus-Actions
with submenus for each action, so it's a bit different from the old one
which added the submenus directly to the right-click context menu.)

I installed it with:

sudo apt-get build-essential
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus-actions
sudo apt-get install gtk-doc-tools
git clone git://git.gnome.org/nautilus-actions
cd nautilus-actions
patch -p1 < nautilus-actions.patch
./autogen.sh
make

I had to patch the git version because it didn't find a function. The file
nautilus-actions.patch is:

[Bug 734883] Re: iPod won't mount

2011-05-16 Thread DrKay
Did HFS+ support drop out of the kernel?

Undesirable workaround, if you have access to a Windows machine:

1. Install iTunes on the Windows machine
2. Plug-in the iPod. iTunes will display a message if you plug-in an HFS+ iPod
(set-up using a Mac) telling you that, in order to use this iPod on Windows,
you must restore it to factory settings.
3. Click on Restore, and the iPod will be formatted automatically as FAT32.
4. Eject the iPod, then plug into Ubuntu machine and you're up and running!

[Bug 777292] Re: Gedit not single instance when started from unity

2011-05-16 Thread Stefan Löffler
I still see the issue with Unit 3.8.12.

It appears both ways:
 * Start gedit from launcher/dash/terminal and then double-click a text file in
nautilus/archive manager gives a second instance.
 * double-click a text file in nautilus/archive manager and then starting gedit
from dash/terminal gives a second instance (not from launcher, though, which
switches to the first instance correctly).

[Bug 697358] Re: regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior

2011-05-16 Thread xtknight
This is a core compiz problem in Natty (not even a problem with the
window-decorator) from what I can tell.

I was using a Natty VM and selectively replaced some components from
Maverick's compiz. Here are the results.

Natty Compiz and Natty Decorator: this bug.
Natty Compiz and Maverick Decorator: segfault.
Maverick Compiz and Maverick Decorator: perfect.
Maverick Compiz and Natty Decorator: works awful, but does not exhibit this
particular bug.

I looked at libwnck, metacity, and gnome-panel too, including diffing
the source code between the two, but when I tried the different compiz
packages I was convinced that these three aforementioned packages were
not at fault. I didn't even think metacity was used at all during
compiz, but I just wanted to make sure.

My conclusion is that something in the core of Natty's compiz is an
issue. Doing a diff between the two is difficult because it looks like
they moved from C to C++ in at least some of the source code!

I'm not so concerned about correlation, causation, and interaction
between all these problems. As far as I'm concerned someone who updated
compiz broke it and caused a regression and that's about it. Don't make
major changes unless it's a major version update. I will try to limit
it down to a specific commit but right now that's looking difficult and
I might just throw in the towel and install Maverick's compiz back on my
Natty system because there are definitely other compiz problems with
this version, too.

[Bug 783808] [NEW] suspend/hiberate options have no confirmation dialog

2011-05-16 Thread Rocko
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: indicator-session

When I select restart, shutdown, or login from the session indicator, I
am prompted to confirm I want to do this.

But if I select suspend or hibernate, the action is performed
immediately.

This is particularly annoying if I have selected an option by accident,
and in the case of hibernate, the system crashes so it is the same as
doing a restart.

[Bug 783806] [NEW] Installer changes language selection

2011-05-16 Thread Luke Tidd
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: debian-installer

Installing 11.04 alt dvd of ubuntustudio on a Japanese White
MacbookPro1,1

Even if I choose USA as the country, and English as the language, when I
choose "Japanese Macbook" for the keyboard, when I am able to enter my
hostname, it starts typing in katakana. Also, the method I chose to
switch languages "shift+alt" does not switch languages.

If English is chosen, one should type in English, regardless of the
keyboard's country of origin. Thanks!
