[Bug 782675] Re: Virtualbox has no launcher installed- cannot launch from menu or launcher, only command line

[Bug 751689] Re: Thinkpad x201* overheats due to slow fans when on 'auto'
This issue is occuring for me since a very long time; using Windows the fans have a much higher speed setting compared to using Linux and the thinkpad-acpi driver. However, since the use of Maverick I experience a lot more automatic shutdowns, triggered by thinkpad-acpi, due to overheating. Before, I was using Karmic and also experienced it sometimes. When monitoring the temperatures manually and setting a fan speed accordingly the CPU is cooled properly, but thinkpad-acpi never triggers higher CPU fan speeds even when 95 °C! That is, in my opinion, a bug. I'm having this issue on my T61p - C2D T9300 w/ Nvidia QuadroFX 570M. Both need quite a lot of cooling, especially when using the docking station (less ventilation, more isolation on the bottom). That's why I don't think this issue is specific for one Thinkpad model, but occuring as soon as you start using thinkpad-acpi, also in older versions of Ubuntu. And yes, it's a universe piece of software not part of the core of Ubuntu, but this should really be fixed as it might cause hardware failures. I think running a user space software daemon as a workaround is rather 'dirty'. More hardware related, but still not justifying the behaviour of thinkpad-acpi: I noticed there was an awful lot of thermal grease on both the CPU and the GPU for the integrated heatsink/fan in my Thinkpad, I cleaned it, replaced this with a proper amount of thermal grease and temperatures are 10 °C lower since then. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751689 Title: Thinkpad x201* overheats due to slow fans when on 'auto' -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 572869] Re: CUPS is unable to authenticate using kerberos (known bug)
To add to what Bart said above, CUPS backend are executed as user lp if they are world-executable, and by root is the backend is only executable by root. If the backend is to retrieve the user's credential, it has to be executed as root or as the user itself. So if you write a wrapper script for the smb backend, you need to make sure it is executable only by root. Having a wrapper script setting KRB5CCNAME is a possible solution, but a more elegant one is to invoke smbspool as the user submitting the job, in which case it will pick up the Kerberos ticket just fine and do the right thing by itself. Minimally, something like the following would work: -- #!/bin/bash su -c /usr/bin/smbspool $1 $2 \$3\ $4 \$5\ $2 -- Nikke, I am not sure the problem you report is what we are actually talking about. Rob, Thanks for your testing. I notice your system has an AMD graphics card. Did you install the additional driver for this card? (look for the Additional Drivers icon under Applications ). This might be relevant as it looks like a display problem. Also, could I ask you to do another quick test? Put the system to sleep, then wake it up, and once it's up, press Ctrl+Alt+F1 to switch to a virtual console. If you are able to switch to a console (which will have a login prompt), log in with your username and password. Type this command to get the kernel log: dmesg dmesg-1.txt Then to reboot the system (so you don't need to push the power button to do so): sudo reboot Once you've rebooted, please attach the dmesg-1.txt file (should be in your user's home directory). @HwRhymes: The bios certainly could be to blame, but resume hangs are extremely hardware specific, so unless the commentor on the freedesktop bug you linked to had an identical machine it's hard to say whether or not it's the same problem. @Marc: Something is getting stored in the resume trace but the kernel could't find the matching device. One possibility is that the hang was in a kernel module that wasn't loaded when the pm_trace output was generated during boot. The RFC does not prohibit labels that don't start with a letter; it merely recommends against them. The definition of label mentioned above is part of a guideline introduced with this text: The following syntax will result in fewer problems with many applications that use domain names (e.g., mail, TELNET). Points in favor of supporting domain names that don't necessarily follow those guidelines: 1. There are actual domains out on the Internet running web sites with such domain names (several blogs at blogspot.com spring to mind) 2. Such domains resolve on other OSes (not just Windows, but also OS X). 3. Direct DNS queries (dig, host, nslookup) on Linux work fine with such names. 4. Even gethostbyname() on Linux works for such names when they're in the local /etc/hosts file. Possibly in NIS maps as well. Point 4 is especially telling; I don't see any reason for gethostbyname() to introduce a restriction between two interfaces when that both operate correctly without the restriction. Especially not a restriction that prevents access to actual web sites. Telling users that The owner of that site shouldn't have named it that is not helpful. Using debian/*.upstart.in and copying them as .upstart only if building in Ubuntu. * Nova init files reviewed so that they are working in Debian. * Initscripts of nova-compute now has a Should-Start: libvirt-bin * nova-compute.postinst working with libvirt group in Debian. * Reviewed the package descriptions. * Reviewed some dependencies in debian/control (added some adduser and lsb-base depends). * Added missing binary Depends: (nova-manage must depends on python-amqplib unless failing puiparts tests, nova-compute is pretty usless without qemu-utils) * Removes .gitignore files from binaries. * Don't package nova-manage.1 man page if we aren't building docs. * Packages correctly: nova-manage.1 and not novamanage.1 !!! [Bug 788145] [NEW] [MIR] gnome-color-manager
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-color-manager Availability: Currently available in Universe, building on all currently supported architectures, see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome- color-manager Rationale: In Oneiric we want to introduce ICC-based color management on the operating system level, using the same architecture as Fedora does. gnome-color-manager is part of this architecture. Therefore we need it in Main. This MIR is a work item of the following Blueprint: https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-o-icc-color- management According to the Blueprint additional demand on CD space for the whole introduction of color management is around 300K only. Security: No security vulnerabilities known at CVE and Secunia, no SUID components, no daemons, has /usr/sbin/gcm-install-system-wide executable which seems to install ICC profiles for availability in the whole system. Quality assurance: Installs without debconf questions (package has no maintainer scripts at all), after installation color management can be configured via System - Preferences - Color Profiles. The package is maintained upstream as new releases occur regularly and they get packaged for Ubuntu by Robert Ancell who works for Canonical (see debian/changelog). UI standards: Seem to be fulfilled, the package contains the usual translation files and it appears in the menus with System - Preferences - Color Profiles, so the .desktop file must be there. Dependencies: Argyll is recommended by gnome-color-manager and so it should also get promoted to Main. Argyll is the software for supporting color calibration hardware which is an important part of color management. Maintenance: See Quality assurance. ** Affects: gnome-color-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: gnome-color-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: gnome-color-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788145 Title: [MIR] gnome-color-manager -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Your best best is to go back to 2.6.38-8-generic, where USB3 works, or to compile your own 2.6.39 kernel but with commit dfa49c4ad120a784ef1ff0717168aa79f55a483a reverted. Both day names and month names are variable length. My understanding is also that day and month names in Polish are spelled with small initial letters. Please notice that the abbreviations are no longer fixed-width. Since this is also the case in several other locales, I suppose it is not a problem. The recommendation is that the abbreviated format be fixed format/lenght, as this is intended to be used in log messages. best regards Keld Reply at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/58210/comments/5 On 2006-09-09T16:27:23+00:00 Drepper-fsp wrote: You have to provide evidence. Examples of use: * http://kalendarz.pwn.pl/ [calendar of PWN (Polish Scientific Publishers), publisher of the largest and most authoritative Polish-language encyclopedias and dictionaries] * http://lot.pl/ [timetable of LOT, the largest Polish airline] Please note that these abbreviations can only appear standalone or as part of a standalone date (and yes, while Polish weekday names are lowercase, they are not). To abbreviate weekday names in an intertextual context (which would be quite uncommon), one would have to use an ad hoc abbreviation following standard rules, i.e. match the case of the word, end with a consonant, and be followed by a dot, e.g. 'poniedziałek' could be abbreviated as 'pn.', 'pon.', or 'poniedz.'. [Bug 788158] [NEW] Oneiric: 404 page when trying to buy something
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center When I click the Buy button in Oneiric, I got asked for my SSO username and password. Then after entering that, it brought me to a 404 page on ubuntu.com (embedded in software-center). I tried again, on a different for-purchase app and this time did not get prompted for username/password (so must have been valid last time and saved), but still got the 404. [Bug 788145] Re: [MIR] gnome-color-manager
Argyll is recommended by gnome-color-manager and so it would need to get into Main, too. It is well maintained upstream but not well maintained in Ubuntu. See bug 782584. One could drop it from the recommended packages of gnome-color-manager, but this way we would have a color-managed distro without support for calibration devices. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788145 Title: [MIR] gnome-color-manager -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 762918] Re: Natty Screensaver freezes system after some period of inactivity
I'll go ahead and try this as well. I just found out that it still happens without screensaver. I use a small script to use my computer as an alarm it uses the following: rtcwake pm-suspend xset dpms force off Not sure which one is causing it to still happen but I'll try disabling VBlank. [Bug 788162] [NEW] Oneiric: Can't reinstall previous purchases
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: software-center If I try to reinstall previous purchases, I get asked to sign into the Software Center, I do, then it brings me to the Previous Purchases list but there are zero items. Though I have purchased several apps. What's the cross-release story for such apps? Are they automatically provided for each release, or only if/when the publisher decides to make it available for the next release? If so, some sort of better user feedback about that would be good. Like, you bought these apps before, but they aren't available for 11.10, sorry or something. Just so I know Software Center hasn't eaten my apps.
