Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox I login a remote linux server by "ssh -X user@server". I try to run Firefox in the server. But the local Firefox is opened. [Bug 791596] Re: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty
Chase, I followed your instructions. I still get the odd pointer behavior. This is kind of hard for me to explain. With the playback I did not notice any issue. But with the latest updated xorg, the pointer movement always *feels* odd. By feeling I mean that I cannot notice it by just looking at pointer movement on the screen but it always feels erratic and less accurate. Sorry for being ambiguous. Also, it seems this odd behavior is not noticeable in a fresh session but only starts after a few minutes' uptime. I tested this behavior with two different optical mouse and still the same behavior. Can this affect gaming? I play Urban Terror on my system and it is most noticeable there. Moving the player around with mouse in the game feels more erratic than working on the desktop with files etc. All these issues on my system go away as soon as I downgrade to stock xorg version. The odd feeling + mouse movement in the game and on the desktop, everything comes back to normal. Sorry I am not able to provide any accurate info. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/791596 Title: Odd Pointer Behavior After Recent Xserver SRU in Natty -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 791685] [NEW] Set Nanum font as the default Korean font
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-pack-ko There has been a full discussion, followed by a broad consensus, in the Korean Ubuntu Users Mailing list (ubuntu...@lists.ubuntu.com) regarding the desirability of changing the default Korean font into Nanum font (ttf-nanum). There has also been a local attempt to distribute a "customised" Ubuntu installation CD with Nanum font as the default Korean font from the installation stage onward (https://launchpad.net/~cobuntu) by bu...@debian.kr Chrome OS also adopted Nanum font as the default Korean font. http://code.google.com/p/chromium-os/issues/detail?id=8643 Nanum font is considered to be superior in quality and aesthetic appeal. It will greatly help spread Ubuntu among Korean users. At the moment, most Korean Ubuntu users take the trouble to change the default font to Nanum once installation is completed by creating a .fonts.conf file in their home folder. Re: [Bug 715604] Re: FM took 10 min to mv 1.0 GB, contention on drive
Natty is Ubuntu 11.04 ? If I use that I am still using Gnome? I had run Natty with the test ISO and Virtual Box, although it is very slow, and it doesn't mount the drive. I am now pretty sure that the problem is corruption on the gnome virtual filesystem metadata that causes this, and that is caused by user error. Clearing the cache when the drive isn't in use fixes the problem. It is relatively easy to corrupt the data. One has to delete a dir before the file operation has returned from a move of the files into another place. I think this situation is caused because the device is very slow on some requests. I understand that detailed product support is a can of worms. I would say my disk is not supported, but still there may be a way to protect the metadata in software, such as a system of one or more locks that prevent corruption. When the drive begins to get sluggish I run the following script. rm -rf ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata pkill gvfsd-metadata Since I have no documentation of what is written into that metadata binary data file, I am assuming it is a structure in C or an object instance in C++, I cannot troubleshoot what I believe to be corruption that hangs nautalus. If i resort to shell commands on the drive, I do not experience the delays. Since I want the features of the FM, I clear the cache with the above commands. If you want troubleshooting of the metadata I need a utility that can run diagnostics on it. If such a tool exists, I haven't found it. [Bug 790538] Re: pam update causes cron to stop working with "Module is unknown" error
Not all aspects of this PAM failure can be fixed easily, since daemons other than cron were also affected. Cron can be restarted without user impact, but something like xdm cannot be. (Since we got hurt by the xdm issue, not by the cron issue, I am rather sensitive about this.) I personally think that we were quite lucky that the Ubuntu sshd was not affected by this, although it uses PAM. (I am not sure why it was unaffected, since sshd has libpam loaded and requires pam_env.so in a normal Ubuntu config.) I also hope that Ubuntu will conduct a real root cause analysis on this. 'Cron locked up after a PAM upgrade' is only the surface problem and addressing and detecting just it would be only addressing the most obvious symptom of the real problem. The real problem was 'a PAM update was not ABI compatible'; the broken processes were simply a symptom of this. I would like Ubuntu to change things so that they detect this if it happens again, not merely instances of the root cause where cron helpfully locks up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/790538 Title: pam update causes cron to stop working with "Module is unknown" error -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 507824] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.31-18 in Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala doesn't support usbfs.
"Karri Kaksonen wrote on 2010-04-06:#14 HASP keys are used for many things like securing nautical charts. Some subscriptions can go on for more than 10 years. To remove features with the logic "Modern systems don't use..." is not ok." Actually it's perfectly fine if your intent is to define anything that won't work with your new kernel as "not modern". If you want to break a working system with your upgraded kernel, that's one good way to do it. And, yet again, this shows why Linux can't truly be taken seriously by responsible IT. One reason among many. But look, here I am after 3 hours of trying to find a work around this problem, not finding one, and saying that. The simple solutions aren't working, so now I'm down to standard B&M. I guess that eventually after a few more days of searching I might find an answer to this problem. Maybe. Or...just download an old install disk and put it on an old laptop. I guess that I have an old copy of knoppix sitting around somewhere which will do the trick. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507824 Title: Linux kernel 2.6.31-18 in Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala doesn't support usbfs. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Seth Forshee thank you for post. yes, I'd like v much to get this new build in place (on my pc); currently I have uname -a Linux unity1104-slowGIGA 2.6.38-8-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Mon Apr 11 03:31:24 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux or in summary linux-image-2.6.38.8-generic 2.6.38.8.42 linux-headers-2.6.38.8-generic 2.6/38.8.42 linux-image-generic 2.6.38.8.22 linux-headers-generic 2.6.38.22 the conventional way of building new kernels, if I remember well, is something, + or -, along this a kernel patch no doubt require a new kernel build that in turn requires, first, the current kernel source downloaded and second the patch file I could see the patch on your post here 0001-zd1211rw-fix-invalid-signal-values-from-device.patch however, where from can I get linux-image-2.6.38.8-generic 2.6.38.8.42 source pls ? once I have the 2 packages (kernel source and patch) then apply the patch to drivers/net/wireless/zd1211rw/zd_mac.c cp -vi /boot/config-`uname -r` .config make-menuconfig fakeroot make-kpkg –append-to-version=patched kernel_image dpkg -i (kernel image created) mkinitrd ??? (not sure of entire cmd) now, I could see in the post there are already .deb files for linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp769986v201106011610_amd64.deb linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp769986v201106011610_amd64.deb I never installed/upgraded kernels and headers by means of .deb files. I require some help pls ie - do linux-image-generic 2.6.38.8.22 linux-headers-generic 2.6.38.22 have to be upgraded too ? if yes should I apply Jussi's #8 procedure to linux-image-generic 2.6.38.8.22 ? how about the linux-headers-generic 2.6.38.22 ? - do cmds like sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp769986v201106011610_amd64.deb sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic_2.6.38-8.42~lp769986v201106011610_amd64.deb suffice to get the job done ? - what about linux-headers-2.6.38-8_2.6.38-8.42~lp769986v201106011610_all.deb ? should it be installed too in the same way as the 2 above ? sorry, I do not want to jump 'head first' so to speak and wreck my good installation BUT I'M v keen in learning howto install new kernel builds and headers .deb ON EXISTING ubuntu good installs. I do know that applying successfully patches to kernels in not an easy task - there are lots of things that have to be done/attended to in order to achieve success. your help is appreciated. tu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/759986 Title: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/net/wireless/scan.c:591 cfg80211_inform_bss_frame 0x1da/0x1f0 [cfg80211]() -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 347453] Re: [upstream] Calc Input bar error looses last character of pasted content
davidpbrown, I performed the same test and noticed a one character space was inserted into the input line after the content. After hitting enter, then checking the cell, the space did not persist. [Bug 507824] Re: Linux kernel 2.6.31-18 in Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala doesn't support usbfs.
Um, running Vbox on top of Unbuntu just to get "older" drivers & hw that uses the usbfs is not the solution to this problem. Neither is forcing users to upgrade their hardware or software. Just in case this isn't clear. Neither is running an older Linux kernel in a VM on top of a newer version of Linux. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507824 Title: Linux kernel 2.6.31-18 in Kubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala doesn't support usbfs. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 780540] Re: Unity does not play well with VNC servers
I see this as well, but on 32-bit natty. It makes vnc use a sort of guessing game where you have to assume the reason you see no response is that you just haven't found the right spot to rub the cursor over. Moving the cursor over an area tends to bring out at least pieces of missing dialogs and menus. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780540 Title: Unity does not play well with VNC servers -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
