[Bug 792347] [NEW] Permission for /etc/postfix not set right when building sasl_password.db using postmap command

2011-06-03 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I tried to as sasly-authentication to my satellite install of postfix.
In the postmap step to build passw.db an error oocured due to wrong
permissions for /etc/postfix directory. Setting the owner of that
directory to 'postfix' solved the problem. The own should be set right
in the first place.

Below is my console session with futher information (including package
version and ubuntu version). Note that it is a root-sheel:

[Bug 388483] Re: smbd panic action with yield_connection name=0x0

2011-06-03 Thread Matthew Morgan
I have more information on this bug. I have so far:

* installed cups
* gotten rid of the extra no-printing configuration in my smb.conf
* removed the socket options line I'd added
* installed samba from source

I still get the bug even built from source directly from the v3-5-stable
branch of samba's git repo. I'm wondering if the problem is related to
a library that samba is linking to since I can't find any mention of
this bug online outside of a debian-based distribution. I've attached
my new samba configuration. Also, here is a sample of the samba 3.5
version of the crash report. If anyone wants client session logs I can
get those too.

[Bug 789229] Re: using a blacklist and a blacklist_exception section results in multipathd filtering out paths it shouldn't

I didn't see the fix in the git tree and took the patch from the mailing
list, which was obviously missing a few things. Not sure why I missed
this commit, good find.

multipath-tools (0.4.8-14ubuntu11) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Fixes some return logic issues in the blacklist.c:_filter_path function

[Bug 792557] [NEW] dovecot fails to start on oneiric

2011-06-03 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

Attempting to start dovecot with the default configuration on oneiric
fails:

This is because the self-signed ssl certificate failed to generate:

line 12: ssl_cert: Can't open file /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem: No such file or
directory

Attempting to regenerate it fails:

  $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure dovecot-common
  Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
  utility, e.g. service dovecot stop

  Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
  Upstart job, you may also use the stop(8) utility, e.g. stop dovecot
  Creating generic self-signed certificate: =/etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem
  This certificate will expire in a year.

[Blueprint server-o-ensemble] Get Ensemble into Ubuntu

+ [niemeyer] Ensemble Daily PPA: DONE

  == The road to main for ensemble ==

  1. When do we want that to happen?

  - 11.10 Ensemble in Universe, problem, ensemble is rapidly developing
  how to deal with updates.

  Ensemble can't be frozen past a stable release. We need to deploy new
  features for the project to be successful.

  Two possible approaches:

  - Use a PPA (simpler, works well)
  - Do SRUs every month or so (much more heavy weight, apparently unnecessary)

  We'll probably be going with the second option.

  2. What do we need to get done for this to happen?

  Needed dependencies:

  - txzookeeper (not packaged yet)
  - txaws (must be upgraded)
  - zookeeper (needs patches which were already pushed upstream)

  3. Strategies for upgrading?

  4. Etc.

  Sample interaction with Ensemble:

  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates some files in ~/.ensemble/
  $ ensemble bootstrap
  # Creates the first instance of Ensemble on EC2
  $ ensemble deploy wordpress
  $ ensemble deploy mysql
  $ ensemble add-relation wordpress mysql

  This requires AWS credentials in the environment.

  The mysql instance can be reused across services.

[Bug 789229] Re: using a blacklist and a blacklist_exception section results in multipathd filtering out paths it shouldn't

2011-06-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
** Attachment added: debdiff committed to oneiric

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/multipath-tools/+bug/789229/+attachment/2154042/+files/debdiff

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: multipath-tools

  The issue is due to a bug in some if/then logic in
  blacklist.c:_filter_path resulting in the routine returning a value
  other then 0 for anything found on the exceptions list.
+
+ SRU Justification:
+ 1. Impact: a config which (correctly) finds an entry both in blacklist and
blacklist exceptions will not honor the exception
+ 2. How bug was addressed: an upstream fix was pulled in. The root cause was
that return values from functions checking existence in blacklists were being
misinterpreted.
+ 3. Minimal patch: see debdiff in comment #6.
+ 4. TEST CASE: Create a multipath config with /dev/sda in both blacklist and
blacklist exception. /dev/sda won't be used.
+ 5. Regression potential: this commit has been upstream since 2007, so should
cause no regressions.

[Bug 791221] Re: Nova's test suite fails with python 2.7.2rc1

2011-06-03 Thread Benjamin Peterson
This is what you actually get on 2.7.1:

$ python
Python 2.7.1 (r271:86832, Mar 24 2011, 22:44:47)
[GCC 4.4.5] on linux2
Type help, copyright, credits or license for more information.
 class Foo:
... def __dir__(self):
... return ['a', 'b', 'c']
...
 class Bar:
... def __dir__(self):
... return ('a', 'b', 'c')
...
 print dir(Foo())
['__dir__', '__doc__', '__module__']
 print dir(Bar())
['__dir__', '__doc__', '__module__']

So __dir__ was actually completely broken on old-style classes in 2.7.1.
You're only seeing the behavior it would have had if __dir__ worked.

[Blueprint server-o-complex-deployment-testing] Automated Complex Server Deployment Testing

2011-06-03 Thread Robbie Williamson
Blueprint changed by Robbie Williamson:

Whiteboard changed:
+ Work items:
+ Base framework to support complex deployment testing: TODO
+ Configurations for complex deployment scenarios (may overlap with formulas
and recipes): TODO
+ Update ISO testing to deal with server ISO refactoring work: TODO
+ ec2 testing configuration for kernel team patch testing work: TODO
+
  UDS-O Session Notes:

  1) Complex Deployment Testing

  Alot of Ubuntu server deployments are much more than an ISO install on a
  single node; however this is pretty much the limit of the automated ISO
  testing that we currently complete.

  We should aim to target some complex Ubuntu server deployment scenarios
  for regular automated testing during the release cycle.

  This could be implemented either in the cloud or using virtualization;
  ensemble and cobbler+puppet might form part of the solution.

  2) Automated Boot testing

  As we make changes to the boot/shutdown sequence of the server, and
  migrate init.d scripts to upstart jobs, we need some continuous
  integration testing to make sure it continues to work. We should take
  advantage of the automated testing framework to install, reboot,
  shutdown, start, remove, and repeat with all packages that are changed.
  We should also automate this testing with all of the available tasks on
  the install CDs. In addition, we should collect metrics on boot time and
  how each package affects it.

  hggdh:
   * we need to test iso install
   * want to do a single install and create gold copy
   * need test do-release-upgrade

  High Level Test Objectives:
  -

  a) Deployment Testing:

  i) ISO Image Proving

  RAID testing (N.B. For raid testing also see:
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/foundations-o-software-raid
and/or etherpad until blueprint updated)
  LVM testing
  Multipath and encryption

  Existing ISO testing framework should deal with this.

  ii) AMI Image Proving

  Existing ec2 testing framework should deal with this.

  b) Package Removal Testing:

  - install services
  - start services
  - check services
  - stop services
  - uninstall services
  - re-install same services
  - start  re-check services

  c) Phase 2 - Service Proving

  Deployment of service and pluggable testing

  Deploy through orchestra and/or ensemble - which would allow testing of
  recipes and formulas as well (+1)

  Framework required for executing tests once deployment complete;
  mcollective could be used to distribute and execute tests; maybe still
  use python unittests;

  d) Automated Boot Testing:

  Minimal install - startup and shutdown OK
  Full install - startup and shutdown OK
  Complete upgrade and then re-test.

  e) Upgrade Testing:

  Lucid-Maverick-Natty for example.

  Need to catchup with mvo in this area - suspect some sort of gold-copy
  type setup might make sense.

  f) Recovery Testing:

  Recovery Mode Testing:

  Complex Deployment Scenarios:

  Wiki + Database + Memcache + Load Balancer
  Bridging and bonding of network interfaces
  Networking File Systems
  Openstack Deployment test
  Launchpad
  Samba + LDAP or Kerberos Backend
  Backup solutions.
  Ruby on Rails stack?

  Requirements:

  Remote testing of services.

  Possibly ask community to donate resources for optional tests
-

[Bug 789810] Re: package amavisd-new-postfix 1:2.6.5-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-06-03 Thread Brian Murray
Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that WHAT CAN
I DO TO STOP IT FROM GOING CRAZY OR REMOVING IT ALL TOGETHER was
flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to an Ubuntu package that
will resolve a bug, since this was not one I've unchecked the patch flag
for it. In the future keep in mind the definition of a patch. You can
learn more about what qualifies as a patch at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Patches.  Thanks!

[Bug 792607] [NEW] Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.

2011-06-03 Thread Dan Christian
Public bug reported:

First: I'm not a mysql admin (and may be missing something obvious).
mythtv does work, but mythweb does not. All sql configuration is the
default. The system has been upgraded to 11.04 from the original 9.04
install.

mythweb dies with an error: !!NoTrans: SQL Error: Unknown table engine
'InnoDB' [#1286]!!

These errors seem to indicated that the plugin can't be loaded:
# grep -i innodb /var/log/mysql/error.log | tail
110603 11:24:56  InnoDB: Initializing buffer pool, size = 8.0M
110603 11:24:56 InnoDB: Completed initialization of buffer pool
InnoDB: No valid checkpoint found.
InnoDB: If this error appears when you are creating an InnoDB database,
InnoDB: the problem may be that during an earlier attempt you managed
InnoDB: to create the InnoDB data files, but log file creation failed.
InnoDB: If that is the case, please refer to
InnoDB: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/error-creating-innodb.html

Without the logs produced by smbd and nmbd, we cannot start to debug
this problem.

Please upload /var/log/samba/nmbd.log and /var/log/samba/smbd.log from

sometimes files get corrupted on download, or because of bit errors on
disk. Please try this in a terminal to correct the issue:

sudo apt-get clean

Hello P.J., thanks for taking the time to file this bug report.

chown: invalid group: `clamav:adm'
dpkg: error processing clamav-freshclam (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

The adm group is always assumed to exist, as all system log files are
generally owned by this group. Is it possible you deleted it from your
system? You can check with

getent group adm

If it does not exist, you need to re-create it with

groupadd -g 4 adm

And then try

sudo dpkg-reconfigure -a

Or if you have removed clamav since this bug report, just try installing
it again.

This means nmbd is failing to start.

Can you try

Would be helpful. And finally, if you can include

failing to start.

[Bug 788059] Re: squid crashed with SIGABRT in __kernel_vsyscall()

2011-06-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Alex, thanks for the bug report, and sorry that it has taken a few
days to get to this. Please do not report the same issue twice. I've
marked the other one as a duplicate of this.

Unfortunately it seems that squid doesn't have dbg or dbgsym packages
available, so its very hard to debug this crash. You would need to
rebuild the source package with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip debuild and
install it, then wait for the crash again.

If you need any help doing that, I'm happy to provide assistance. The
steps would be:

apt-get source squid gdebi-core
gdebi squid_2.7.STABLE9-2.1ubuntu6.dsc # this installs the build-dependencies
cd squid-2.7.STABLE9
DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip debuild binary

Then install the resulting debs.

[Bug 792607] Re: Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.

2011-06-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Dan, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report.

It does in fact look like your innodb table space is hosed in some way,
though there are ways to fix this.

First, backup all your tables:

sudo mysqldump --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf --all-
databases  all_tables.sql

Second, check to see if you have any data in InnoDB tables already:

mysql --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf -e SELECT * FROM
INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE ENGINE='InnoDB'

If you have no tables listed, then you can safely do this:
# Remove innodb database files
sudo service mysql stop
rm /var/lib/mysql/ibdata /var/lib/mysql/ib_logfile*
sudo service mysql start

That should re-create a new innodb table space.

If you do have InnoDB tables already, you may have a lot of data
problems, and thats not something we can solve in a bug report
unfortunately.

It does make me wonder if there's a bug upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04.
Did you upgrade directly from 9.04, or did you go through the steps
(9.04 - 9.10 - 10.04 - 10.10 - 11.04) ? We do not generally support
upgrades directly from one older stable release to a new one... so this
if thats the case, we probably won't be able to fix that.

Marking Incomplete pending response from Dan.

[Bug 792607] Re: Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed.

2011-06-03 Thread Dan Christian
I did do all the upgrades in sequence over the years. This is the first
time I've really tried to use the innodb based stuff (mythweb and
mythweather), so it could have gotten messed up anywhere along the way.

Checking my backups: the timestamp on the files indicates they were
last written when I was running 10.10, but I'm also seeing the same
error messages during that time.

I tried the first couple steps you recommended, but they didn't really
work right.

# mysqldump --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf --all-databases
~/all_tables.sql
mysqldump: Got error: 1286: Unknown table engine 'InnoDB' when using LOCK TABLES

It sounds like it's finding InnoDB stuff, but can't read it properly.

# mysql --defaults-extra-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf -e SELECT * FROM
INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE ENGINE='InnoDB'
The select returns nothing because that engine never loaded. It doesn't
necessarily mean there isn't anything there.

Removing the ib* files (after backing them up) did allow InnoDB to load.
I also had to remove /var/lib/mysql/mythconverg/weather* to keep it from
complaining about old/bad .frm files. re-installing the mythweb plugin
did re-created the tables. mythweb now works for me.

I think this means that the bug is probably somewhere in migration
(possibly in a previous version), but (hopefully) isn't reproducible.

Thank you so much for the hand holding. You can close this bug as not
reproducible.

[Bug 792203] [NEW] ufraw-batch ignores temperature and green parameters provided on the command line

2011-06-03 Thread Savanni D'Gerinel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ufraw

Starting with the version installed with Natty Narwhal, ufraw-batch
ignores both the --temperature and the --green parameters. To
reproduce, choose any RAW file and run these commands:

ufraw-batch --out-type=png --out-depth=8 --size=800,600 --temperature=1
--green=1.0 --output=1_1.0.png file
ufraw-batch --out-type=png --out-depth=8 --size=800,600 --temperature=2000
--green=1.0 --out-path=2000_1.0.png file

Compare the resulting files and they will be identical, when in fact
1_1.0.png should be shifted grossly towards the red side of the
spectrum and 2000_1.0.png should be shifted grossly towards the blue
side of the spectrum.

This is a regression failure since the version of ufraw in Ubuntu 10.10.

[Bug 785937] Re: $ARCH in common.postinst breaks everything

2011-06-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The patch dkms.diff seems incorrect for a few reasons:

1. It's a patch against the local filesystem, not against the dkms
source.

2. I can't see it fixing the problem. In fact, the patch should
introduce the bug or make it worse. Because $ARCH is an optional
variable, it can be empty. That means your changes to the various dkms
commands would probably cause more problems than they solve by passing
-a without subsequent parameters.

More likely, it sounds like your problem is that $4 to common.postinst
has been passed spaces  .

But the most likely cause of what you're experiencing is a broken shell. To
test this theory:
  sh -c 'A=b c; sh -c echo \$# $A'
The output should be 1, but I suspect your shell gives 0. And that's a bug in
the shell. Such a bug does not seem to exist in bash or dash under ubuntu 11.04
though.

Finally, please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather
debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 785937
When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and
the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality
