** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel On a Sony VAIO VGN-NW13F laptop with a single on-board Intel video chip and no external monitors running Lubuntu Natty amd64 in a Lubuntu Desktop session, a GPU lockup was reported by Apport to have occurred. This did not happen upon or shortly after login--I had logged on over 14 days previously, and the computer had not been hibernated or suspended - in the intervening time. Therefore, while otherwise similar to bug - 767475, this bug did not occur under similar circumstances. However, - like in bug 767341, which is a duplicate of bug 767475, I was running - VMware virtualization software when the crash occurred. Specifically, I - was running VMware Workstation 7.1.4 build-385536, with a single virtual - machine running. The virtual machine did not itself have graphics - acceleration enabled, but I wouldn't expect that to be necessary for - triggering this bug. Unlike bug 767341, I was not interacting with the - virtual machine when the bug occurred, but I wouldn't expect that to be - necessary either. + in the intervening time. Furthermore, the vesa video driver (with which + the i915 driver may have conflicted to produce this, had it been + running) was not loaded, according to the output of lsmod. Therefore, + while otherwise similar to bug 767475, this bug did not occur under + similar circumstances. However, like in bug 767341, which is a duplicate + of bug 767475, I was running VMware virtualization software when the + crash occurred. I am filing this report in case, upon further inspection, there is evidence that this is a separate bug, or valuable information not present in other reports. [Bug 734798] Re: nvidia-current gifs no video in videoplayers
Exact same problem here : Ubuntu 11.04 unity, Graphics card GeForce 8400 GS, nvidia-driver-173 By accident, I found that by running NVIDIA Xserver setting, right click on the NVIDIA icon on unity menu bar, and mark it as "Always show" is enough to have the same effect as running the same program from system setting. This is only a workround, but in effect, I can watch videos immediately after login without running the xserver setting thing. [Bug 794849] [NEW] Remove mpeg4ip from oneiric
Public bug reported: mpeg4ip is a very old unmaintained package. All upstream development stopped in 2007. ( http://mpeg4ip.sourceforge.net/ ) Previously, mpeg4ip was included in multiverse because of libmp4v2, which was used by some applications to read/write MP4 file metadata. However, the MPL license of this library meant it could not be legally linked against GPL software without a special exception, so most programs depending on it in fact violated its license. (In fact, it's not even strictly MPL - it's a mess of four different licenses - but that's not the point here.) Now all hard dependencies on libmp4v2 have been removed from oneiric. Seeing how having the library in the repository doesn't seem to be useful at the moment, and following previous discussion on the ubuntu- motu and ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing lists, I suggest removing it altogether, along with the rest of the mpeg4ip package. If - *if* - we need libmp4v2 in the future, we can upload a new version from the Google Code fork ( http://code.google.com/p/mp4v2/ ), which is still MPL, but at least actively maintained. For the time being, however, I see no point in packaging it. ** Affects: mpeg4ip (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: mpeg4ip (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794849 Title: Remove mpeg4ip from oneiric To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpeg4ip/+bug/794849/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 794843] [NEW] Wallpaper slideshow memory leak
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I'm experiencing memory leak with xorg in both lucid and maverick if I set an .xml file for wallpaper slideshow. Xorg gets all the memory up to 4GB in few minutes. Using top, I saw memory usage increased when wallpaper changes. Because it changes every 5 secs, lacking is totally out of controll. Disabling compiz the issue seems disappeard, even though (with top as well) leaking is still there (but slower than when compiz is running) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: xserver-xorg 1:7.5+6ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-28.50-generic 2.6.35.11 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-28-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: amd64 Date: Thu Jun 9 07:10:33 2011 DkmsStatus: vboxhost, 4.0.8, 2.6.35-28-generic, x86_64: installed vboxhost, 4.0.8, 2.6.35-22-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx, 8.801, 2.6.35-28-generic, x86_64: installed InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat" - Release amd64 (20101007.1) MachineType: System manufacturer System Product Name ProcCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-28-generic root=UUID=b40887a4-a5b3-4b1b-8ec0-1154e531e83a ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: xorg dmi.bios.date: 05/19/2009 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 1606 dmi.board.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.board.name: M3A78 dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK Computer INC. dmi.board.version: Rev X.0x dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset-1234567890 dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.chassis.vendor: Chassis Manufacture dmi.chassis.version: Chassis Version dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr1606:bd05/19/2009:svnSystemmanufacturer:pnSystemProductName:pvrSystemVersion:rvnASUSTeKComputerINC.:rnM3A78:rvrRevX.0x:cvnChassisManufacture:ct3:cvrChassisVersion: dmi.product.name: System Product Name dmi.product.version: System Version dmi.sys.vendor: System manufacturer system: distro: Ubuntu codename: maverick architecture: x86_64 kernel: 2.6.35-28-generic ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug maverick -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794843 Title: Wallpaper slideshow memory leak To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/794843/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 794841] [NEW] fsck prompt for missing device doesn't time out, hangs unattended/headless server boot indefinitely
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 571444 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/571444 Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall During boot, an Ubuntu machine installed as a server from the "alternate" CD will pause indefinitely waiting for console input if an fstab line points to a device that is not present and fsck would normally be run on that device. It prints "The disk drive for / is not ready yet or not present. Continue to wait; or press s to skip mounting or M for manual recovery" then waits for input. This halt occurs before sshd comes up and is only on the console, so a headless server has to be physically accessed to resolve the problem. This is not a crash. Pressing "S" allows the server to continue booting, but you have to have a keyboard plugged in and a display to see what you need to do, or at least need a serial console in place. This is far from ideal for a remote headless machine. Encountered on: craig@backup:/etc$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 11.04 Release:11.04 Codename: natty with: craig@backup:/etc$ apt-cache policy mountall upstart mdadm mountall: Installed: 2.25ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.25ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.25ubuntu1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status upstart: Installed: 0.9.7-1 Candidate: 0.9.7-1 Version table: *** 0.9.7-1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status upstart: Installed: 0.9.7-1 Candidate: 0.9.7-1 Version table: *** 0.9.7-1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status mdadm: Installed: 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4.1 Candidate: 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4.1 Version table: *** 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4.1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ natty-updates/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.1.4-1+8efb9d1ubuntu4 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ natty/main i386 Packages This is particularly problematic because mdadm doesn't auto-assemble and start degraded RAID arrays that are not the boot device, so a server with a degraded RAID array will fail to boot if that array is not the boot device. I encountered this on a big RAID backup server where the device containing root, boot, usr, var etc is is a little low-power SSD and all the real storage lives on a RAID array. When a disk dropped out of the array and we lost power, the server failed to come back up because it was sitting at this fsck prompt. Recommended fix: Time out on the prompt after 60 seconds, defaulting to "S" for skip. Do not wait for input on subsequent prompts if more than one is displayed, automatically skip if the first prompt timed out. The latter is important because many servers will have 10 or more file systems and you don't want a 60-second timeout on each. ** Affects: upstart Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: mountall (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: upstart Importance: Undecided Status: New ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 571444 Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794841 Title: fsck prompt for missing device doesn't time out, hangs unattended/headless server boot indefinitely To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/upstart/+bug/794841/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It seems this new 2.29.4 version of glib2.0 is not compatible with the package glib-networking_2.28.7-1 and libsoup2.4-1_2.34.2-1. ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794761 Title: No valid active connections found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/794761/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 794828] [NEW] overlay menus make some important features disappear
