[Bug 783109] Re: epdfview crashed with SIGSEGV in __strlen_sse42()

2011-06-17 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Scott, I updated the bug description, so I think I did everything to
follow the SRU process (the SRU process description als mentions to
"Nominate for Series", but this is unfortunately only possible for bug
control members...). I think only a positive review of the branch is
missing.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: epdfview

- Split off from bug 669211.
+ Split off from bug 669211.
In Ubuntu 11.04, many PDFs cause epdfview to crash on startup.

The attached crash is for the document referenced in the above bug

+
+ This bug has a severe impact as it makes epdfview completely unusable
+ for many PDF documents. The linked branch contains backported changes
+ from upstream rev 357 and rev 359, additional the "cosmetic" patch from
+ rev 336 was also necessary in order for the other two patches to apply
+ cleanly.
+
+ TEST CASE:
+ Open the file
http://www.ebparks.org/files/EBRPD_files/photoguides/1-EBRPD_Wildflowers.pdf
with epdfview
+ Without fix: epdfview crashes during the start

[Bug 798935] [NEW] Unity blank screen after suspend

2011-06-17 Thread Ashwin Saval
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

After suspend or closing laptop lid with option of "Blank Screen" after
closing of laptop lid in Power Preferences, if lid is opened after a
long time(approx. 20mins or more), the screen is blank with the option
missing for entering password and logging back in, into the suspended
system. This results in the need to shut down the Laptop manually (by
long pressing the power button) and restarting the system.

[Bug 644489] Re: constantly changes /dev/disk/by-id/{scsi, wwn}-* LUN symlinks with multipathing

2011-06-17 Thread Peter Petrakis
@John, I've got a test for you.

- stop multipathd: service multipath-tools stop
- monitor udev events as root: udevadm monitor

There should be no new change events.

then in a separate terminal, as root run:
/sbin/mpath_prio_netapp /dev/sdb (or any netapp device)

do you see a change event each time you run the cmd above?

Thanks.

[Bug 539477] Re: Video out hot key sends super + p + return on many upcoming Dell & HP systems

2011-06-17 Thread johnny
[ Cross-post from bug 694910 comment 6: https://bugs.launchpad.net
/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/694910/comments/6 ]

Fix for bug 539477 broke my usage of Mod4-P (incidentally, on a Lenovo
laptop). What's the reason for the "Won't Fix" status here?

This is extremely unexpected and annoying behavior. Stealing existing
user shortcuts and making them not configurable is unacceptable. Just
because some Dell/HP laptops have a certain behavior is not a valid
reason for having one of your most heavily used shortcuts in your IDE do
something else all of a sudden. Also consider it unacceptable to be
asked to change my existing, heavily day-to-day used shortcuts.

[Bug 798933] [NEW] panel contents disappears on external monitor

2011-06-17 Thread Greg Grossmeier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

I have connected an external monitor (an HP Compaq LA2205wg) to my
Lenovo x200s (intel GMA4500) and extended my desktop (not mirror).

The panel on the external monitor where my indicators and login/time
stuff are is disappearing and it appears text is not being refreshed
correctly. See attached screenshot.

[Bug 511511] Re: Can't launch file managers

2011-06-17 Thread Robert Dyer
Let me be quite blunt about why this bug is not fixed in Docky. I
believe it is either a problem with Nautilus or whatever session manager
you use. Here is my logic.

The bug only happens when Docky auto-starts, usually via a session
manager (gnome-session, etc). Docky will inherit the environment *at
the point it starts*. Thus, I believe the issue is that something in
the environment is not set prior to Docky auto-starting and Nautilus
will not work (without an explicit path passed in!) without whatever
that missing environment is.

So either, Nautilus has a bug and needs to be smarter and start without
that environment (seems reasonable to me... if I ask Nautilus to start,
why won't it show a window??).

Or you need a session manager smart enough to order the startup such
that Docky starts after whatever starts that sets up that missing
environment.

In either case, there is nothing Docky can do. I have been kind enough
to not mark this a Invalid/WontFix, mostly so it shows up in our bug
list. But basically I consider it a non-Docky bug and thus it is out of
my hands.

PS, this logic applies to any app having this issue such as Plank and
Slingshot.

I mean think about it people, Docky (plank/slingshot) is running the
command 'nautilus' (and you can indeed verify it runs this, and Nautilus
just exits). What more can we possibly do?

[Bug 694910] Re: Regression: patch to bug 539477 breaks Super+P keybindings

2011-06-17 Thread johnny
Fix for bug 539477 broke my usage of Mod4-P (incidentally, on a Lenovo
laptop). What's the reason for the "Won't Fix" status here?

This is extremely unexpected and annoying behavior. Stealing existing
user shortcuts and making them not configurable is unacceptable. Just
because some Dell/HP laptops have a certain behavior is not a valid
reason for having one of your most heavily used shortcuts in your IDE do
something else all of a sudden. Also consider it unacceptable to be
asked to change my existing, heavily day-to-day used shortcuts.

[Bug 696189] Re: lmms wan't install on Natty

2011-06-17 Thread David Hanson
Is this a bug or is this an intentional dependency? If it's
intentional, both stable and unstable Wine incarnations should be
supported. Also, the installation process for LMMS should prompt the
user regarding Wine - allowing the user to opt out of whichever feature
it is that somehow requires it. I really hope this is a bug though,
because LMMS should not depend upon any foreign component.

[Bug 762938] Re: Wacom Pressure broken with Qt applications

2011-06-17 Thread klerfayt

If that is true and the cursor "jumps" to the upper left corner, then why does
nobody notice the "jump"? And furthermore, why isn't Mypaint affected?

It seems only be a problem with the icon image assigned in the *.desktop

it.

[Bug 798915] [NEW] orca magnifier unusable

2011-06-17 Thread dsa42
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-orca

When I start orca magnifier, it comes up full screen, there are two
cursors, and it is impossible to determine how to set the settings. The
settings cannot be set without the magnifier running. That is, all of
the settings for the magnifier are disabled until the "enable magnifier"
settings is clicked, at which point the magnifier comes up full screen,
and it is impossible to figure out how to get to the settings. Contact
me if you want me to record a session showing the difficulty.

Hi Steve,

I have an environment for testing purposes currently configured with Kerberos +
NFSv4 running on Lucid 10.04. I still could not replicate the issue since it
looks like it occurs randomly.
Please let me know if you have some ideas on how to create a testing scenario
for this issue. We can use my own environment for this matter.

[Bug 798911] [NEW] Please support -vfilter in ffmpeg

2011-06-17 Thread El Grotto
Public bug reported:

(Using Ubuntu 11.04 and ffmpeg 4:0.6.2-ubuntu1 -- both the most recent
at the time I posted this).

FFMpeg is a great tool, and I tend to prefer it over MEncoder because it
seems better supported and has better documentation (and seems to
support webm out of the box, which mencoder doesn't). However a good
deal of its functionality is from its video filters, which the ubuntu
repository doesn't seem to support at all. I have googled, and found
dozens of pages of users talking about having to recompile from svns or
gits, and I'd really just like to be able to use it without turning my
web server into more of a nightmare of packages than it already is (and
have the additional problems of patching and security updates to stuff
not maintained by you guys, if I don't break it completely).

Please do whatever tech genius is required to allow users to use
vfilters in the ubuntu distribution of ffmpeg.

Cheers.

2011-06-17 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
However, processing the crash report to get detailed information for the
developers failed as the retracer did not generate a useful symbolic stack
trace.
Please try to obtain a backtrace manually following the instructions at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash and upload the backtrace (as an
attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly help us in tracking down your
problem.

2011-06-17 Thread Jim Chatman
You're right, there was no easy way to roll back. In the end, I downloaded
11.04 and started over. Nothing wrong with that. I appreciate the help
though, very much. Ubuntu is still the best thing around and I appreciate
the work that you folks do to bring it to us! Thank you!

[Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Kernel BUG during recovery boot and in normal boot (Hybrid graphics)

2011-06-17 Thread Seth Forshee
@harry, what that message probably means is that the bootloader is using
something other than VESA for graphics, VGA perhaps. It's probably
nothing to worry about, and I don't think it has anything to do with the
problem during the radeon driver probe.

[Bug 511511] Re: Nautilus not start

2011-06-17 Thread Sergey "Shnatsel" Davidoff
Confirmed for Plank-Marlin pair:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/marlin/+bug/792733/comments/5
Same workaround - "marlin ."
This bug also haunts Slingshot.
The funny thing is that if I set Marlin as the default file browser, put a file
or folder in Plank and open containing folder via right click, everything works.

** Changed in: plank
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Also affects: slingshot
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

- Nautilus not start
