[Bug 775289] Re: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, caused by held packages.
What did work is not a "fix" to bug, but a work around. Apparently, [libnss3-1d] attaches itself (through upgrades) to old packages. As such, [sudo apt-get autoremove] does not remove these packages. I found this out by installing the [libnss3-1d] deb file listed above. Then opened [synaptic] which reported a broken [libnss3-1d] package. Clicking to repair the broken package, It listed everything it was attached to. This included Thunderbird and Network Manager, in addition to old lucid packages. All these packages had to be removed and reinstalled, minus the old lucid packages, and on reboot - the upgrade succeeded. What the upgrade manager failed to do - find and delete old packages, that may (and do) cause upgrade problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/775289 Title: E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, caused by held packages. [Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
Thanks for explanation David. I used the HDA_Analizer workout, but it is not completely satisfying: at first, sound comes out from the speakers, but after a couple of reboots it won't anymore, randomly. Plus, i have had a weird experience: I selected, on the audio settings panel, the "hdmi output + analog input" hardware set. The "input" tab recognized a mic, so i tried to record some sound, but could not hear the result, because the speakers were not working (no channels were muted in alsamixer!). Changing the hardware set to "analog output", i had no mic working, but i could check my record and it had actually recorded my voice. There was no external mic plugged, and i had just used the HDA_Analizer tool. I felt so near to the solution, the problem would then be "just" enabling HDMI audio output... Too bad I can't rerun this test: i did it yesterday, and today the audio settings tab won't detect any mic in any hardware set, I can't understand why. Shame. Anyway, I will keep trying. I really hope someone of you can find a working solution soon... I am here ready to test anything you need to test, but sadly I'm not so good to find a solution on my own. [Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon
@#135 about more or less technical users: If you (Canonical) don't respect the needs of the technical users, you possibly make it more difficult to reach the 200 Million users goal: The technical users are multiplicatiors for other, less technical, "normal" users: They tell them about the possibility of another OS, they can convince them about the advantages of this OS, they can help to install and to manage the OS. In the past, I recommended Ubuntu to friends and family and convinced quite some of them to use Ubuntu. But now, I can't recommend Ubuntu any more. It is not just this bug, but this is symptomatic: My main argument for choosing Ubuntu was the great ability to configure it to personal needs. (One of the first things I showed to new users was the great flexibility of the old gnome panel.) Now this argument is lost (unless you use another DE, which I do, but I'm not sure whether this is a good choice for less technical users...), Canonical-Ubuntu became a less-is-more,-take-it-or-leave-it thing, just like Mac OS. Conclusion: If you focus too much on less technical users, you risk to lose both technical and less technical users. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733349 Title: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking it's Launcher Icon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/733349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801853] [NEW] high cpu loads on using security enabled USB drives
Public bug reported: I have a JetFlash 620 8Gb Transcend drive. Whenever i insert it, the cpu load gets very high. [Bug 610898] Re: grub-pc upgrade renders computer unbootable when Wubi is installed to partition other than Windows
While I'm here, @bcbc: I did some work on the ext4 problem you mentioned. In fact, when I tried to set up a test case, I found that wubildr.mbr hung for me on an ext3 filesystem, never mind ext4. This turned out to be due to lack of support for inode sizes other than 128, and I've backported a patch for this to ntldr-img which should be used in future Wubi builds: grub2 (1.99-8) unstable; urgency=low [ Robert Millan ] * Avoid buggy versions of libgeom-dev (see #630107). Closes: #630197 * Fix grub-probe detection for ATA devices using `ata' driver on kFreeBSD 9. - kfreebsd-9_ada_devices.patch [ Colin Watson ] * Update ntldr-img from grub-extras: - Handle ext3 inode sizes other than 128. [ Debconf translations ] * Kazakh (Baurzhan Muftakhidinov). Closes: #630915 -- Colin Watson Tue, 21 Jun 2011 02:10:10 +0100 Once I'd fixed this, wubildr.mbr had no problem with my test ext4 filesystem. I therefore suspect that perhaps your ext3 filesystem predated the change of the default inode size to 256? It would be worth testing Oneiric Alpha 2 when it's released (using a fresh install, since upgrades don't replace wubildr.mbr) to find out whether it fixes this problem for you too. If it doesn't, I'd appreciate a separate bug report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610898 Title: grub-pc upgrade renders computer unbootable when Wubi is installed to partition other than Windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/610898/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 801840] [NEW] Kernel Panic 2.6.38-xx
Public bug reported: Repeatable kernel panics after upgrade to 11.04 on kernel 2.6.38-08. Tried pre-release kernel 38.10, same. Reverted to 2.6.35-28 no problems. I usually boot my system with clock=acpi_pm. This resolved some vmware stability some time back. Have tried with and without various acpi options to no avail. Have also enabled and disabled acpi in bios. System is a dual xeon server, 8GB, ASUS Z7S. Absolutely rock solid months on end. Panic does not alway happen at same time. But it always happens within a few minutes (at best) of booting. Thinking acpi and possible thermal issues, have forced all fans to max in bios (setting threshold temps down). No resolution. Bug report package generated while running 2.6.35-28 kernel. System otherwise unchanged. Will attach photo of panic screen. Kenneth: console-setup has to be brought up to date anyway ...
