Gnome developers have commented that this is not strictly speaking a problem in Gnome, and that: "You can 'fix' this by setting the 'org.gnome.nautilus.desktop volumes-visible' to false in GSettings, or the correspondent GConf option in 2.32 (which is probably what the Ubuntu package should do, if they already show the volume icons elsewhere)." Have reported to the bugzilla but i think the error lies within upower. As stated before the fix seems to remedy the issue that the battery status isn't updated at all and the gnome power manager reports this correctly. However when battery reaches critical there is no reaction from the gnome-power-manager. Looking at the printout below i think this is due to the fact that the upower Daemon does not recognize that the computer runs on battery or that the battery is low. I have a ATI Remote Wonder 2 ... and upgrading to Natty is literally a two nights spent getting and tryin all kinds of configuration options with no success whatsoever. If I use ati_remote2 it is OK, Lirc and irw work fine, except that the remote is seen as a input device. All great, until you want to use that with XBMC and/or disable the remote in X11 so the remote does not mess with the actual mouse+keyboard. With ati_remote2 driver if you want to filter the remote event irw also stops receiving signals - so no choice than to have the remote active in x11 as a input device. This for a triple display setup as I have (2 monitors + 1 tv running on 2 x Nvidia cards) is unacceptable - you don't want someone putting the PC to sleep because they pushed the sleep button on the remote while watching XBM/TV. Now If someone actually has an idea how to get ati_remote2 driver to not be treated as an input device in X11 and to generate standard scan codes in lirc/irw I have no issue. But so far this is a no no .. I could not figure how to get this working properly at all, nothing that was working before is applicable. So.. I decided to go to lirc_atiusb + lirc_dev , use the linux devinput as I am doing on Ubuntu 9 LTS. Got the lirc-modules-source , built the modules, removed the blacklisted lirc_atiusb etc. But for no avail, lirc_atiusb does not send any events to lirc ?!!! What is needed to track down this (very annoying) bug? I'm seeing the same issues, but unfortunately this bug is really hard to reproduce. In my case I usually (but not always) can reproduce it like this - switch to integrated graphics in bios (intel) - boot - gdm autologin into unity --> everything works fine - shutdown - switch to ATI graphics card in bios (ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650) - boot - gdm autologin into unity And then the only wallpaper is displayed, but no unity or anything else. Then repeatingly every 3 or 4 seconds the screen gets black and the wallpaper is displayed again. Switching to a console and running "service gdm restart" as root brings up unity without further issues then. Attached is the output of dmesg before restarting gdm. Click Apply and OK to install/reinstall the program and then while Synaptic is downloading, click on Firefox to bring the Firefox window to the front. 4. When Synaptic finishes downloading and starts installing, it brings its window and dialog back to the front, ie in front of Firefox's window. 5. Click on either the part of the Firefox window visible behind Synaptic or on the Firefox icon in unity-launcher to try and restore to the front. Result: nothing happens. Unity does not bring Firefox's window back to the front, presumably because unity still thinks Firefox is the current application/front window. The only workaround I've found is to click on the Synaptic window or its unity-launcher icon and then to click on Firefox to bring it back to the front. With ai_flags=AI_CANONNAME and ai_family=AF_INET, getaddrinfo() performs a PTR lookup anyway (contrary to POSIX), effectively preventing a setting of rdns=false from being effective. I have to disappoint all who complained here. Looks like it's not a bug, but a feature. My disk was dying for a long time, and new kernel just made it clear to me. After replacement, I have no problems with kernel 2.6.32-32-generic.
