[Bug 787742] Re: lirc_atiusb non functional with snapstream firefly

2011-06-28 Thread Calin Morar
I have a ATI Remote Wonder 2 ... and upgrading to Natty is literally a
two nights spent getting and tryin all kinds of configuration options
with no success whatsoever.

If I use ati_remote2 it is OK, Lirc and irw work fine, except that the
remote is seen as a input device. All great, until you want to use that
with XBMC and/or disable the remote in X11 so the remote does not mess
with the actual mouse+keyboard. With ati_remote2 driver if you want to
filter the remote event irw also stops receiving signals - so no choice
than to have the remote active in x11 as a input device. This for a
triple display setup as I have (2 monitors + 1 tv running on 2 x Nvidia
cards) is unacceptable - you don't want someone putting the PC to sleep
because they pushed the sleep button on the remote while watching
XBM/TV. Now If someone actually has an idea how to get ati_remote2
driver to not be treated as an input device in X11 and to generate
standard scan codes in lirc/irw I have no issue. But so far this is a
no no .. I could not figure how to get this working properly at all,
nothing that was working before is applicable.

So.. I decided to go to lirc_atiusb + lirc_dev , use the linux devinput
as I am doing on Ubuntu 9 LTS. Got the lirc-modules-source , built the
modules, removed the blacklisted lirc_atiusb etc. But for no avail,
lirc_atiusb does not send any events to lirc ?!!!

So here is the driver log when run in debug mode - aka modprobe lirc_atiusb

But any button press is not doing anything, not even a line written in
the kernel log. So no surprise we do not get anything on IRW.

So,. there is a bug - filtering/ignoring the event in X11 and getting
the remote to generate plain scan codes in lirc/irw does not work and
lirc_atiusb is literally broken.

Of course... unless someone has a brilliant solution to get this
actually working - with ati_remote2 or lirc_atiusb.

[Bug 467825] Re: Battery state always fully charged

2011-06-28 Thread Mikael Hjelm
Have reported to the bugzilla but i think the error lies within upower.

As stated before the fix seems to remedy the issue that the battery status
isn't updated at all and the gnome power manager reports this correctly.
However when battery reaches critical there is no reaction from the
gnome-power-manager.
Looking at the printout below i think this is due to the fact that the upower
Daemon does not recognize that the computer runs on battery or that the battery
is low. If someone that knows anything about the signalling could point out
what upower is supposed to report to let gnome-power-manager react then i could
try to debug it but the signalling between the processes feels like black art
to me.

[Bug 799077] Re: Filesystem icons appear on both the launcher and desktop

2011-06-28 Thread Brendan Donegan
Gnome developers have commented that this is not strictly speaking a
problem in Gnome, and that:

You can 'fix' this by setting the 'org.gnome.nautilus.desktop volumes-visible'
to false in GSettings, or the correspondent GConf option in 2.32 (which is
probably what the Ubuntu package should do, if they already show the volume
icons elsewhere).

So indeed it should be a change in Unity which disables this setting
which would be the solution to this bug.

[Bug 802844] [NEW] Xlib doesn't provide current window titles

2011-06-28 Thread Ray
Public bug reported:

I'm using the Python Xlib bindings to go through all of the xlib
windows, and access their wm names using win.get_wm_name(). This bit of
code used to work in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but ever since
switching to Unity, many windows are marked as not 'viewable' and their
window titles seem to be the titles provided during initialization, not
the updated ones. A good example of this is that gedit will say its
title is 'gedit', and not 'Untitled Document 1 - gedit', like it used
to. This behavior is visible in other code as well, like suckless.org's
lsw utility, which is programmed in C. I'm saying I don't know for the
package name, since this may be a side-effect of unity...

[Bug 802843] [NEW] Intel DX58SO2 suspends fine: but only for the first few hours

2011-06-28 Thread Bryce Nesbitt
Public bug reported:

While I suspect a hardware bug... this is quality Intel hardware... and
I do see a lot of Linux and Ubuntu specific problems with suspend mode
(despite the dramatic energy savings possible on desktops):

The Intel DX58SO2 based desktop passes the Suspend/Resume test at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting
But fails if left suspended for somewhere between 4 and 10 hours.
When resumed after this delay the machine hard boots, usually leaving the USB
keyboard dead as well.

[Bug 802847] [NEW] Zanshin crash after selecting resource

2011-06-28 Thread Thomas Tanghus Olsen
Public bug reported:

I accidentally found this program and wanted to test it.

When running it the first time I was asked to select a resource where my ToDos
are stored. I selected my memotoo.com account which is accessed via a KDE
Calendar (Traditional) Calendar in remote file.
After selecting that resource zanshin crashed. Trying to run it again skipped
the selection dialog opened the main window (I guess?) and crashed.

[Bug 802848] [NEW] Natty+Gnome3 is broken at June 25th

2011-06-28 Thread Romuald
Public bug reported:

My PC : HP Envy 14 - Ubuntu 11.04 64bits + Gnome3 from the official
Gnome team ppa.

On saturday June 25th, 2011, I updated my computers and since it refuses to
start, locked on the message:
Stopping system V compatibility[OK].

Tried some tricks like doing a fsck or starting with nomodeset option
in case of graphic problem (I'm using the open source ATI gallium
driver), no change.

Made some searches on the French ubuntu forum, 4 people report exactly
the same issue. I don't know for people on the English forum.

I tried to make a fresh re-install Natty 64 + Gnome3 from the official
Gnome team ppa again (just this, no other ppas) and...same.

So between friday June 24th and saturday June 25th, an update was
published which brokes the Natty+Gnome3 configuration.

[Bug 588822] Re: r8192se_pci driver occasionally drops connection, refuses to work with some networks

2011-06-28 Thread Jose Marquez
The 3.0 release candidate 4 kernel worked for me (from Mainline Kernel
Builds), as above. 9 hours so far, stable connection on Kubuntu 11.04,
connecting to a WPA2-PSK AP. I've got the Realtek 8191SE chipset in a
Toshiba Satellite A500. So this seems fixed for Oneiric. Going to try
drivers Realtek just sent me (newer than the December 2010 drivers on
their site) with the stock 11.04 2.6.38 kernel.

[Bug 760131] Re: Power consumption raised significantly in natty

2011-06-28 Thread Newfie
I should chime in here to mention that battery life for me on Natty was
very negatively impacted. The most I was able to get out of my laptop
when dimming screen, disabling effects, etc, was 50 minutes.

The same laptop can get a max of 2.5 hours on Ubuntu 10.10 and lower.

[Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2011-06-28 Thread Jody Fanning
One thing I just noticed is that, at least in the Virtual Box case, it
might be related to the amount of memory assigned to the virtual
machine. I had 1GB of memory previously where the problem occurred. I
just increased it to 1.5GB (for other reasons) and suddenly the theming
works and I also get Unity desktop as well.

[Bug 778758] Re: The apport hook discourages new bug reports

2011-06-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xorg - 1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1

---
xorg (1:7.6+4ubuntu3.1) natty-proposed; urgency=low

  * apport/source_xorg.py:
- Simplify answers for bug reporters filing post-release reports.
  (LP: #778758)
- Remove attach_drm_info(). This is useful info but we use it very
infrequently, and it is already available in other log files. But the
call makes bug reports a bit cluttered since it adds a lot of lines to
  the report itself.

[Bug 785680] Re: [MIR] accountsservice

2011-06-28 Thread Kees Cook
Instead of respawning the account daemon from the postinst, I think it
would be better to just let D-Bus relaunch it on demand to keep its
environment standard (rather than getting the environment of whatever
was running dpkg).

The -- fixes look good, thanks.

I think the username string comment was misunderstood. I was saying that
since 'adduser' accepts -, ., and _, then so should
accountsservice, but it seems that the username filter regular
expression doesn't allow those characters (and should be fixed).

The file size check as the root user is a problem because it is an
information leak (it can be used to test for the existence of files,
etc). If the size check is going to be used at all, it should be done
during the copy (as the real user), to avoid information leaks or ToCToU
races.

I'd still like to see some kind of solution for passing the password in
the clear over D-Bus. apg is just used to generate a password, IIUC,
not to do the hashing.

Re: [Bug 779501] Re: no default video format

2011-06-28 Thread csola48
2011-06-27 19:23 keltezéssel, Timokl írta:
You can solve this the following way:

Just create a text file $HOME/.config/video_format and write into this
 file PAL or NTSC.

The reason is that DVDAuthor does not support default video format any
more, so you have to define it.

 It worked for me. :)

This bug was fixed in the package devede -
3.16.9+20110518.gita574810-0ubuntu1

---
devede (3.16.9+20110518.gita574810-0ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * New upstream git snapshot:
- Define the VIDEO_FORMAT environment variable to ensure that
  DVDAuthor 0.7.0 works (LP: #755340, LP: #779047).
- Fix a little bug that prevented to create DVDs.
- Fix a bug when MKISOFS uses comma instead of dot for float
values. Also fixed the progress dialog: now it shows the
  text centered.
- Added bugfix for the AC3 bug in Mencoder beta (must use
ac3_fixed instead of ac3 as audio codec).
Add a Preferences window, and put there the folder for
temporary items (like previews), to use or not several cores,
to delete or not the temporary files, and to activate or not
  the AC3 bugfix for mencoder.
  * Switch to dh_python2.
  * Build with scour for SVG optimizations.
  * Update debian/copyright.
  * Bump Standards.

father's laptop) but next time I am through I can try some of your
suggestions.

[Bug 802864] [NEW] Launcher went completely blank and dash appeating on every click --- reboot needed

2011-06-28 Thread Romano Giannetti
Public bug reported:

After leaving the desktop alone some hours, I came back with
launcher/dash completely broken. In the meantime VirtualBox did a reboot
on a windows virtual machine which broke with the keyboard grabbed ---
it happens sometime, clicking the right-ctrl key returns the keyboard to
normal.

But after that unity/launcher/dash was completely unfucntional:
- dash popped up at any mouse click, even if on a focused window (note: I have
focus-follow-mouse policy)
- launcher did autohide-show but was completely empty (see screenshot)

I tried various thing to recover:
1) unity --replace (no effect)
2) toggling NumLock (no effect)
3) log out-log in (no effect! so it must be some daemon - right?)
4) reboot - ok, I have my Unity back.

I have apport enabled, and in /var/crash I have:

_usr_bin_dconf.0.crash
_usr_lib_policykit-1-gnome_polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1.1153.crash
_usr_lib_tracker_tracker-extract.1153.crash

Could be any of this related?

[Bug 761551] Re: GTK switches to default ugly theme unexpectedly

2011-06-28 Thread Michele Gastaldo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 649809 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/649809

exact same issue here, on a standard Ubuntu installation (not on VM!). output
of commands
gnome-settings-daemon --debug --no-daemon
and
ps -ef | grep gnome-settings*
look right the same as hendrik's.
Logging out and in again fixes the problem for the whole session, but it
randomly (maybe :) ) happens on startup.
It seems bug #649809 is nvidia related, but i'm running on an ati here (old
card, drivers radeon). I just gave a fast look at the bug report though, so I
might be wrong

[Bug 779908] Re: pdftk fails with output option

2011-06-28 Thread Stefan Löffler
overriding LC_MESSAGES did not have the wanted effect for me. However, it did
work if I unset LC_ALL, such as
   LC_ALL= pdftk...

I did a bit more research, and it seems this was set in
/etc/default/locale. After clearing that and filling it again via the UI
Language dialog of Ubuntu, LC_ALL is no longer set in that file (or
elsewhere, for that matter; `locale` shows LC_ALL as empty), and pdftk
works smoothly now. Thanks for the work.

[Bug 802871] [NEW] Innocent nautilus-action makes nautilus unusable.

2011-06-28 Thread gouri
Public bug reported:

Hello. Had a Ubuntu 10.04 on 64-bit machine. Nautilus-actions installed, some
actions created using the GUI. Worked very well.
Using Ubuntu tools, upgraded to 10.10 then to 11.04.

* Problem : after upgrade, nautilus would crash every time I click on a file or
directory, either in a nautilus window or on the desktop.
Thunar worked.

I tracked it down to nautilus-actions and provide here some steps to
reproduce.

* Steps to reproduce :

These steps are commands intended to be typed at a bash prompt on an existing
account.
These create a temporary test account and use it without logging out of initial
account, for convenience.
Actual bug occurred on my actual user account.
First, please download file action-d31db531-9426-47ed-9651-e87a0f8e732b.xml
attached to this bug-report.

Commands:

sudo adduser --disabled-login --gecos dummy testnacrashlongactionname
xhost localhost

eval $(sudo -H -u testnacrashlongactionname dbus-launch )
sudo -H -u testnacrashlongactionname nautilus
# Click on a file, nautilus works.
# Kill it with Ctrl-C in the terminal.

# Let's load an action created on an earlier Ubuntu (10.04 I believe).
sudo -H -u testnacrashlongactionname gconftool-2 --load
action-d31db531-9426-47ed-9651-e87a0f8e732b.xml
sudo -H -u testnacrashlongactionname nautilus
# Click on a file, nautilus crashes
# EXPECTED : nautilus works, with new action available
# ACTUAL : nautilus crashes
# SEVERITY : nautilus unusable until this action is disabled somehow

You can login normally as testnacrashlongactionname it will fail as
well.

* Steps for cleanup :

sudo -H -u testnacrashlongactionname kill -9 -1
sudo umount /home/testnacrashlongactionname/.gvfs
sudo deluser --remove-home testnacrashlongactionname
xhost -localhost

[Bug 802870] [NEW] gnome-keyring interferes with screensaver

2011-06-28 Thread Fabri Velas
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04
gnome-keyring: 2.92.92.is.2.32.1-0ubuntu2

I have autologin. When I turn on the computer and wait for the screensaver to
lock the screen, then instead of the locked screen I have the unlock keyring
prompt. When I then unlock the keyring, the screensaver immediately locks the
screen and I have to put my password in again.
Instead the screensaver should take over and lock the screen without the need
to unlock the keyring. Entering the password to unlock the screen should then
unlock the keyring password, too.

[Bug 701086] Re: utouch does not recognize that I use a left-handed mouse

2011-06-28 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Chase,

As I understand it, this happens when the user selects Left-handed in
the mouse configuration application. Once that is done, the mouse
buttons are inversed as desired, but this has the unfortunate effect of
causing the touch screen to do secondary mouse clicks instead of
primary.

Are you not able to reproduce this behaviour?
