[Bug 477978] Re: AT SPI Registry Wrapper not responding when I try to shut down

2011-08-01 Thread Huubb
It might be a coincidence. Ënvironment is 11.04, fully updated. Every
occasion when I do start indicator-datetime-preference (setting systems
time / date) this application hangs (see bug report # 751175). When
indicator-datetime-prefence hangs and I try to reboot or shutdown the
system I get the error related to this bugreport. Pop-up windows is
shown with message that an application is still runnning (I do assume
indicator-datetime-preferences) AT SPI REGISTRY.

Whenever I killed the indicator-datetime-preferences process not only
the application runs fine when retried to execute, but also the AT SPI
REGISTRY error doesn't appear and reboot/shutdown goes fine.

[Bug 819661] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.04 windows misconfigure

2011-08-01 Thread paraquat
Public bug reported:

I installed Xubuntu 11.04. Runs fine for a few days. Then one day boot
it up and windows are seriously misconfigured. By "misconfigure," I mean
the border around the windows disappears. Some windows (like Firefox)
peg themselves to the upper left corner. Trying to open the drop-down
menus in the windows with a mouse click fails - then menus open and
immediately close, making it impossible to select anything. Basically,
the entire desktop becomes unusable - almost no applications work as
expected. I've seen this on two separate computers now, both with
Xubuntu 11.04. I found that switching to the plain XFCE4 desktop finds
the same bad behavior as Xubuntu desktop.

The problem occurs randomly, immediately upon user log-in. I found a way
to "fix" it, but the fix is only good for maybe a few days and then it
recurs. No pattern - it happens whenever it happens., and then won't go
away until I apply my fix. So I installed Lubuntu desktop and am using
that for now. The problem doesn't recur if I stick with Xubuntu, but if
one day I switch back to Xubuntu, then it will happen again eventually.

My fix is a lousy one. I've got to log in as another user, open a
terminal, su to root. Then cd to my home directory and delete all hidden
files and directories. For example, if you are user "john" then log in
as somebody else, open an xterm and do this:

su
cd /home/john
rm -fr .[a-zA-Z0-9]*

I can then log out, log back in as user john. Now my desktop works fine.
Of course, I've blown away all my configuration files (Firefox bookmarks
and extensions, for example). So I've gotten in the habit of saving my
bookmarks file.

I haven't been able yet to narrow the problem down to a specific
configuration file. I tried just deleting ~.config but that didn't solve
the problem. It's probably just one broken file, but I don't know which
one.

This launchpad bug reporting software only allows me to add one file
attachment, but I wanted to send you three. So I uploaded the three
screenshots to my own web site and have included the links below. Please
view these. An explanation for each one:

[Bug 819532] Re: Please sync gnote 0.7.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-08-01 Thread Vincent Cheng
Gnote 0.7.5 is for the most part just a minor bugfix release with no
major changes (see
http://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/gnote/0.7/gnote-0.7.5.news), so
it should be safe to sync. I'm not sure if this particular release fixes
any of the existing bugs filed against gnote, but at the very least, I
can confirm that the current version of gnote in Oneiric (0.7.4) fixes
LP #510008.

I'll be sure to include an explanation for any future sync requests I
make.

[Bug 819662] [NEW] Repository out of sync

I've found the repositories for natty out of sync. Mainly

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu natty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu natty main

They report availability of kdebase-bin version 4:4.7.0-0ubuntu, but
searching the pool there is no package with the given version. Looks
like "Packages.bz2" was updated, but not "Packages.gz" nor the files
uploaded ...

I have also noticed, that when I disable the Unity plugin with
CompizConfig, all these artifacts disappear and everything is displayed
properly. When I turn it back on, the problem returns.

[Bug 709245] Re: panda: USB disk IO slow

2011-08-01 Thread warmcat
Maybe the 1ms threshold thing is just to do with a threshold heuristic
where it stops using the scheduler and sleeping and instead spins
udelay() style, hence the 100% CPU. That's not to write off its effect
on the bug just a possible explanation of why it cares about 1ms or
less.

Reading these new findings yesterday and today I wonder if it's somehow
related to when the ehci stuff schedules the URB. Like if the CPU is
totally up it can pack USB transactions to go out immediately, but
somehow when "idle", although what exactly is in what kind of idle is
unclear, it bumps it to the next frame or so.

[Bug 815306] Re: Banshee sees iPod nano as read-only

2011-08-01 Thread Lionel Montrieux
Giving it a try with Windows + iTunes, it apeared that there was a
problem with the iPod's filesystem. Windows fixed it and I was able to
read and write on the iPod using iTunes. Back to Ubuntu with Banshee,
everything works fine.

I'll close this bug now, and will reopen a new one if it appears that
the filesystem corrupt is a result of using Banshee to write on the
device.

clean container; copied it to (sudo cp -a ) to a temp dir, ran the

the mtab being nonempty in the nonrunning container is a little suspect

as are the .udev files *on disk* (mainly symlinks it appears)

I also confirm that csokun's solution works:

Is there any way to make this automatic when using the Khmer (Cambodian)

[Bug 651104] Re: intel graphics turbo disabled

2011-08-01 Thread hawthornso23
This is still a persistent problem with me on my Dell E6510 with i5 processor.
Unlike some, I still had the problem after upgrading to natty.
In an effort to fix it I upgraded to a version of the 2.6.39.3 kernel
compiled with corei7 as native which some people said fixed the problem.
It didn't work for me.

OK - I reason. If the problem is modules loading out of order, then lets get
rid of the whole module loading issue completely.
So I compiled a 2.6.39.3 kernel with all components involved actually compiled
into the kernel and not merely compiled as modules. The results are ...
interesting.

and it continues to generate messages of this nature forever. It seems
to me therefore that this problem is a little deeper than just a problem
of modules loading out of order. Even when you compile everything
involved into the kernel itself, it still won't work. The intel_agp
module is compiled and therefore present in memory. The i915 module is
compiled and therefore present in memory. And yet they STILL can't find
each other.

Are we perhaps looking at something as simple as a spelling error which
stops i915 from recognising intel_agp because its name is misspelled?
After all if the person who coded this can manage to misspell "graphis
turbo" perhaps they also misspelled more important things.

Anyway I hope someone finds the information valuable.
Now I've got to go and roll back my kernel ...

are applied to VT's just before KMS is initiated. And then KMS sets everything
to default.
If you run 'udevadm trigger' after boot, your console-setup settings will be
reapplied.

[Bug 818490] Re: system information should show Ubuntu informations

2011-08-01 Thread iMarck90
Hello, i'm Marco and i'm working on some idea and concept about this
information.
I really think for become more friendly and intuitive can show the Ubuntu Logo
and information about it.

In System Info we can show

*Ubuntu Logo and version in use
*Desktop Environment (Example Gnome 3 version)
*Shell in use (Example Unity 2D)

On the left can be added

*Desktop Environment - information about Gnome, logo, version, copyright etc.
*Shell - Shell in use, logo, version, copyright, a shourtcut to setting
*Canonical - Information about Canonical - Copyright - Support (Free and
Commercial) Philosophy

This is the first idea, the "??" is for another idea we want show.
Thanks Marco

[Bug 815077] Re: restart is missing from SessionMenu

2011-08-01 Thread Erick Brunzell
Post install there were 25 updates. After applying those updates I can
now select logout and restart from the login screen does now work.

I recall seeing similar behavior with earlier versions of gnome3 so
maybe it's an upstream thing?

[Bug 709245] Re: panda: USB disk IO slow

2011-08-01 Thread Michael Sparmann
When running just dd at 1MB block size, I get ~5.5MB/s.

When running with sudo ping -q -i.0100 localhost in the background, ping causes
1% CPU load, and I get ~10MB/s at 1MB block size and these ping statistics:
6228 packets transmitted, 6227 received, 0% packet loss, time 97329ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.000/0.053/2.899/0.050 ms

When running with sudo ping -q -i.0099 localhost in the background, ping causes
100% (one core) CPU load, and I get ~20MB/s at 1MB block size and these ping
statistics:
10339 packets transmitted, 10337 received, 0% packet loss, time 93032ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.000/0.033/0.946/0.031 ms

Now why does ping process about twice as many packets but use 100 times
more CPU (and get better response times) when I reduce the delay by just
one percent? There's something fishy going on here...

[Bug 819532] Re: Please sync gnote 0.7.5-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-08-01 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Does the new upstream fix any of the bugs filed against this package on
Launchpad?

Since we're after DIF we generally want some justification for the sync.
A new upstream version for a leaf package in Universe before Feature
Freeze is a reasonable sync request, so I'm happy to ACK this. In
future, though, it's good to explicitly explain why we want to sync -
even if that's just as simple as “new upstream version brings
interesting fixes/features”.

[Bug 814426] Re: Natty Narwhal Crackling Sound

apport information

** Tags added: oneiric running-unity

** Description changed:

On my CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1030 desktop running up-to-date Natty
Narwhal 64bit on fresh install, there is a variable crackling overlaying
the sound on my card when any sound is playing. It is invariable to the
output, as looping the same clip does not cause crackling to loop. The
output of sudo aplay -l is:

  card 0: M1010LT [M Audio Delta 1010LT], device 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712
multi]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Any idea's on what this is? Occurs with pulseaudio on or off (even with
speaker-test), and only on my Delta 1010LT sound card. Jaunty livecd plays
audio without crackles, while Natty livecd produces crackles.

[Bug 815077] Re: restart is missing from SessionMenu

2011-08-01 Thread Erick Brunzell
Just noticed that this effects both the live desktop and the installed
version of the 20110801-i386 iso-testing image.

Even selecting logout and then selecting restart from the login screen
fails to restart the machine and even Alt + SysReq + B seems not to
work, but reboot from terminal does work.

[Bug 62587] Re: Ligatures problem in Arabic keyboard layout

2011-08-01 Thread Nathan Wells
This is also a problem for the Khmer language (Cambodia) but Simos's suggestion
fixed the problem: Specifically,
1. Type
sudo gedit /etc/environment
2. Add a line
GTK_IM_MODULE=xim
3. Save and restart your computer.
And making sure the following exists in:
sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose

#
# Khmer digraphs
#
 : "ាំ"
 : "ោះ"
 : "េះ"
 : "ុំ"
 : "ុះ"

I hope this will be resolved so no manual changes have to be made.
