[Bug 820810] Re: After upgrading from 10.04 system would not boot
Well really it was a bug before in 10.04 as the partition naming was wrong then. One of the issues in the Ubuntu development is that there are lots of people who don't talk to each other. Ubiquity (the installer) breaks dmraid at least once during every development cycle. Ideally you should have been upgraded to grub2 and in the process it should have rebuilt your grub.cfg file with the new device names. If you had been using UUIDs in grub and in fstab this would have worked perfectly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/820810 Title: After upgrading from 10.04 system would not boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dmraid/+bug/820810/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 820898] [NEW] Log File Viewer is difficult to interpret - needs different layout
Public bug reported: The Log File Viewer displays cryptic abbreviations followed by an equals sign to present items in the log. People find this layout difficult to read and interpret. It's not an efficient way to present the information. A more human friendly layout is possible. For example, a Nautilus like "List" or "Details" view with headers. Information would list under its corresponding header and accordingly be easily found and interpreted. The current layout & manner of presenting log information should be changed to a more "human friendly" presentation. [Bug 820895] [NEW] Log File Viewer does not log "Process Name"
Public bug reported: The gnome "Log File Viewer" does not log the Process Name (or Application Name) that generated the log item. For example, if an outbound internet connection is blocked and this event is logged, only the "ID" (i.e., PID) is shown in the report. But the PID is useless because it is ephemeral and does not live past the session. Users are left with no way to learn what Application or Process was responsible for generating the log item. The "Process Name" should be listed in log items instead of the PID. [Bug 806636] Re: [Oneiric] Compiz fails to update window title until focused window is changed unless window is maximized
I'm seeing this too in the current Oneiric build. I'm running on a MacBook which has an nVidia graphics card, so the problem does not seem to be specific to ATI. I think this bug should have importance High. It's quite distracting that window titles are wrong all the time. [Bug 669211] Re: Xpdf segfaults on start in libpoppler.so.7
And to be precise: it can be used with the original xpdf-packages from ubuntu. The SEGV-bug was only in the poppler-libs. I also tried compiling from source and it also worked. This means: for those of you who need xpdf we now have 2 workarounds: install libpoppler by hand, either from the oneiric-URL or by taking the sources from there and doing a dpkg-buildpackage: cd /tmp wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/p/poppler/poppler_0.16.7.orig.tar.gz wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/p/poppler/poppler_0.16.7-2ubuntu1.debian.tar.gz tar zxf poppler_0.16.7.orig.tar.gz cd poppler-0.16.7 tar zxf ../poppler_0.16.7-2ubuntu1.debian.tar.gz dpkg-buildpackage (this process will tell you, what else you might need, libs, devs whatever) afterwards: cd .. sudo dpkg -i libpoppler13_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-cpp0_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-cpp-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-glib6_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-glib-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-qt4-3_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb libpoppler-qt4-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb poppler-dbg_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb poppler-utils_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb This might be a bit more than you need but at least, afterwards xpdf runs quite fine! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669211 Title: Xpdf segfaults on start in libpoppler.so.7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xpdf/+bug/669211/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 817063] Re: unity desktop wont run
Trying to get this bug report into some order, so was renaming the attachments. That particular one was replaced by a more recent attachment, so I deleted it. See the list of attachments on the bug report - hope you agree it is somewhat easier to follow now. Apologies for the confusion over the kernels - the ones I quoted were of course the kernels on which xorg was built. That said, you do have different kernels for each machine, which would mean different kernel modules and potentially different behaviour. Also the Xorg.0.log files show an interesting difference: derek-Dual2: xorg-server 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1 dad-dual2: xorg-server 2:1.10.2.902+git20110708+server-1.10-branch.bc3c539e-0ubuntu0sarvatt~natty The former is the same as my fresh installed system, the latter is clearly very different. Could we see current versions of xserver-xorg: dpkg -l xserver-xorg Just paste the results into your response, no need to add as an attachment. My suspicion is that this bug is invalid as currently logged - the two systems are not the same - as evidenced by the different kernels. I suspect you should probably just be trying to get help on why dad-dual2 is not working through the usual channels. [Bug 669211] Re: Xpdf segfaults on start in libpoppler.so.7
Here is a quick update on what I found out: The xpdf changes in debian (that are also in oneiric) are not responsible for fixing the issue. Instead, some change in the poppler library (which was also updated in oneiric) fixes the crash. I'll try to find out what change exactly is necessary. In the meantime, could someone experiencing the issue try to install the libpoppler13 library from oneiric (http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/libpoppler13 -- download links at the bottom) and confirm that this fixes the xpdf crash (please do that only if you also know how you could revert such a manual installation)?

[Bug 820868] [NEW] Phantom package management error while trying to install nvidia driver with jockey
Public bug reported: Hello, after installing Oneiric for Alpha 3-testing, I was as usual trying to installing the propritary Nvidia driver via Jockey. But this was unsuccessfull, resulting in a package management error message that poped up shortly after the "Downloading and installing driver"-progress dialog appeared (see attached screenshot), saying "Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.". The interesting thing is, despite the error message there seemed to be nothing wrong regarding package management on my system. "dpkg --configure -a" showed nothing, and trying to install nvidia-current via Synaptic worked without any problem or warning. So there seems to be an issue with Jockey believing, that somethings wrong with the package management, which in reality isn't the case. [Bug 820865] [NEW] pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss
Public bug reported: 1. create a folder on your desktop for example ~/Desktop/test/ 2. mount an external usb on which there's a folder on which you don't have write permission for example /media/usbdisk/nowrite/ root:root 755 3. cut your folder on the desktop & paste it on the usb folder using the gui, which simply means: - right-click on the folder "test" on your desktop and choose "cut" - use pcmanfm to go to the usb folder and right-click on it and choose "past" 4. A window with the progress bar will open with an error on it saying "test: Error creating directory: permission denied" After that the original folder "test" on the desktop disappears, and of course there's no copy on the target folder. As a consequence you loose your original folder and all data in it. The original folder is removed while the error window is shown, the removing process doesn't wait for the user to press the close button on that window. [Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend
I'd like to strongly emphasize my opinion that this is certainly NOT a duplicate of #554984. Bug #554984 is about enabling tracpoint scrolling generally. THIS bug, however, is about X forgetting certain settings, namely the trackpoint wheel emulation, which have been enabled via xinput, during an S3 (suspend to ram) cycle. Since X is not being restarted in the course of this event, it should also not change or forget its settings. Putting the required statements into .xsessionrc as recommended in #554984 as a workaround does not apply for this bug, too, since that file is only evaluated at X startup and not at resume from s3. ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 554984 [lucid] enable trackpoint scroll emulation by default -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/702550 Title: X forgets xinput settings on suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xinput/+bug/702550/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 814703] Re: empathy icon looks bigger than usual
Yours actually renders better than on my systems. On mine, I can see the whole icon... but with a big gray background - and it covers up other items on the notifications panel. Other white-listed apps show the same behavior... though their icons tend to be the proper size. I hadn't opened a bug on it, since it renders exactly the same on both of my very dissimilar systems (i980x desktop with nVidia graphics, and CR-48 with intel chipset) - so I figured it was a known bug from the gtk3 conversion that just hadn't been worked out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/814703 Title: empathy icon looks bigger than usual To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/814703/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 820820] Re: cups-pdf should not convert PDF print jobs to PS then to PDF
There are two sides to this story. Those who only use pure PDF documents and who need something to print them to a spool, and those who actually want to be able to manipulate the output via Ghostscrpt first. The main issue with the PDF workflow patch was that it prevented those who want to manipulate the output via cups-pdf.conf Ghostscript options from doing so; it hard-coded too many things and it removed upstream functionality from CUPS-PDF. That produced endless criticism against the patch's impact upon the package's lost flexibility.
