[Bug 820908] [NEW] tp-smapi fails to "No such device" on lenovo X1

It seems that tp-smapi has not been updated for a while, and there
doesn't seem to be any indication that it includes support for lenovo X1
at this stage. Tested with Ubuntu 11.04 (tp-smapi-dkms).

[Bug 820810] Re: After upgrading from 10.04 system would not boot

2011-08-04 Thread Danny Wood
Well really it was a bug before in 10.04 as the partition naming was
wrong then. One of the issues in the Ubuntu development is that there
are lots of people who don't talk to each other. Ubiquity (the
installer) breaks dmraid at least once during every development cycle.

Ideally you should have been upgraded to grub2 and in the process it
should have rebuilt your grub.cfg file with the new device names. If you
had been using UUIDs in grub and in fstab this would have worked
perfectly.

[Bug 257827] Re: brightness changes twice when using hotkeys

2011-08-04 Thread Daniel Willemin
Yes this issue still exists, and when it was filed, this series was
still supported. In fact, isn't 10.04 a LTS release??? I will not re-
file my bug report because nobody on the dev team seems to care... This
issue exists all the way up to Ubuntu 11.04. Because of this, I have
switched to Fedora (which does not have the bug).

[Bug 820898] [NEW] Log File Viewer is difficult to interpret - needs different layout

2011-08-04 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

The Log File Viewer displays cryptic abbreviations followed by an equals
sign to present items in the log. People find this layout difficult to
read and interpret. It's not an efficient way to present the
information. A more human friendly layout is possible. For example, a
Nautilus like "List" or "Details" view with headers. Information would
list under its corresponding header and accordingly be easily found and
interpreted.

The current layout & manner of presenting log information should be
changed to a more "human friendly" presentation.

[Bug 820897] [NEW] Hard lock up after boot

2011-08-04 Thread Wowbagger
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Boot into 2.6.35-30
2) Log into X
3) Start Firefox
4) load some web pages
Expected results:
Pages load. System works
Actual results:
after a few seconds the machine hard locks. Mouse is unresponsive. Machine does
not respond to pings from network. UI does not update. Machine does not respond
to short press on power button - only a long press (hard power off) works. No
meaningful data in syslog, boot.log, or dmesg.

Reproducibility: every time.

This does not happen with 2.6.35-28-generic.

Exclude me from the consensus please - I agree with Max (comment #3):
the toggles are not 'effects' (like e.g. filter effects which can be
applied to and removed from objects), they describe how objects are
affected by transformations.

[Bug 820895] [NEW] Log File Viewer does not log "Process Name"

2011-08-04 Thread nick
Public bug reported:

The gnome "Log File Viewer" does not log the Process Name (or
Application Name) that generated the log item. For example, if an
outbound internet connection is blocked and this event is logged, only
the "ID" (i.e., PID) is shown in the report. But the PID is useless
because it is ephemeral and does not live past the session. Users are
left with no way to learn what Application or Process was responsible
for generating the log item.

The "Process Name" should be listed in log items instead of the PID.

[Bug 820842] Re: System ran out of memory during installation

2011-08-04 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for following up.
512MB is not enough to install in a VM, it requires at least between 750MB and
800MB otherwise you'll experience all kind of trouble including kernel errors

Maybe a note should be added to the minimal requirements specs

[Bug 806636] Re: [Oneiric] Compiz fails to update window title until focused window is changed unless window is maximized

2011-08-04 Thread Adam Dingle
I'm seeing this too in the current Oneiric build. I'm running on a
MacBook which has an nVidia graphics card, so the problem does not seem
to be specific to ATI.

I think this bug should have importance High. It's quite distracting
that window titles are wrong all the time. As a workaround, I can
resize a window to fix its title every time I notice that it's wrong,
but that gets old fast.

[Bug 820881] Re: Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
I add the links to related pictures in another bug report.

Heavy corruption of desktop and fonts:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389588/Medium%20corrpution%20desktop.png
Medium corruption:
 https://launchpadlibrarian.net/76389610/Heavy%20corruption%20desktop.png

I also tried fixing the problem with some workarounds and applied

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel"
Driver "intel"
Option "Tiling" "false"
EndSection

in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. This seemed to protect the desktop from
corruption, but still corrupted the Ubuntu menu bar (see the image
attached to the report).

If I applied DebugWait=true from xorg.conf, the corrution appeared the
same as before.

[Bug 669211] Re: Xpdf segfaults on start in libpoppler.so.7

2011-08-04 Thread UWP
And to be precise: it can be used with the original xpdf-packages from
ubuntu. The SEGV-bug was only in the poppler-libs. I also tried
compiling from source and it also worked. This means: for those of you
who need xpdf we now have 2 workarounds: install libpoppler by hand,
either from the oneiric-URL or by taking the sources from there and
doing a dpkg-buildpackage:

cd /tmp
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/p/poppler/poppler_0.16.7.orig.tar.gz
wget
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/p/poppler/poppler_0.16.7-2ubuntu1.debian.tar.gz
tar zxf poppler_0.16.7.orig.tar.gz
cd poppler-0.16.7
tar zxf ../poppler_0.16.7-2ubuntu1.debian.tar.gz
dpkg-buildpackage
(this process will tell you, what else you might need, libs, devs whatever)
afterwards:
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i libpoppler13_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-cpp0_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-cpp-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-glib6_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-glib-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-qt4-3_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
libpoppler-qt4-dev_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb
poppler-dbg_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb poppler-utils_0.16.7-2ubuntu1_amd64.deb

This might be a bit more than you need but at least, afterwards xpdf
runs quite fine!

[Bug 805940] Re: Patch to alsa-plugins causes regression in java applet (webex)

2011-08-04 Thread David Henningsson
Well, the PulseAudio patch is included in the next version of
PulseAudio, which we are currently considering for Oneiric (see
https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-audio-dev/msg00212.html ), and the
alsa-plugins patch is broken, but I'll attach a fixed version now. Note
that the alsa-plugins patch would need the new PulseAudio to compile.

[Bug 817063] Re: unity desktop wont run

2011-08-04 Thread Chris Roberts
Trying to get this bug report into some order, so was renaming the
attachments. That particular one was replaced by a more recent
attachment, so I deleted it. See the list of attachments on the bug
report - hope you agree it is somewhat easier to follow now.

Apologies for the confusion over the kernels - the ones I quoted were of
course the kernels on which xorg was built.

That said, you do have different kernels for each machine, which would
mean different kernel modules and potentially different behaviour.

Also the Xorg.0.log files show an interesting difference:

derek-Dual2: xorg-server 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1
dad-dual2: xorg-server
2:1.10.2.902+git20110708+server-1.10-branch.bc3c539e-0ubuntu0sarvatt~natty

The former is the same as my fresh installed system, the latter is
clearly very different. Could we see current versions of xserver-xorg:

dpkg -l xserver-xorg

Just paste the results into your response, no need to add as an
attachment.

My suspicion is that this bug is invalid as currently logged - the two
systems are not the same - as evidenced by the different kernels. I
suspect you should probably just be trying to get help on why dad-dual2
is not working through the usual channels.

Anyway, thank you for your considerable patience, I don't believe I'll
need any further information after the above.

[Bug 820881] [NEW] Heavy screen and font corruption on GMA950

2011-08-04 Thread tabbernuk
Public bug reported:

Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)
Ubuntu 11.04 package version 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.2 (was the same for
2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7.1)

Heavy screen corruption appears after some ~12h usage. It is similar or
probably includes font corruption reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/745608, but certain other GUI elements, for example desktop
background are corrupt too. Corruption appears after logging in and out
to system between different users using different applications in
different screen modes, but I haven't fount a clear recipe how to
produce it.

Public bug reported:

After updating to 2.6.38-10 only a terminal appears. Trying 2.3.38-8

With a fresh install and subsequent update the system froze, but going
back to 2.6.38-8 was okay.

[Bug 580295] Re: Unity: Alt-F2 not working

This is obviously not fixed in Unity 2D.
I have never seen Alt+F2 in Unity 2D doing anything so far, including current
iso testing images.

Kind regards,

[Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend

2011-08-04 Thread Fionn
Although this bug is most certainly not a duplicate of bug #554984, it might
(or might not) be related to bug #489830 which seems to have useful hints in
the comments. Whether or not this actually is the same issue should be properly
investigated before flagging this as dupe again, IMHO.

[Bug 669211] Re: Xpdf segfaults on start in libpoppler.so.7

2011-08-04 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Here is a quick update on what I found out: The xpdf changes in debian
(that are also in oneiric) are not responsible for fixing the issue.
Instead, some change in the poppler library (which was also updated in
oneiric) fixes the crash. I'll try to find out what change exactly is
necessary. In the meantime, could someone experiencing the issue try to
install the libpoppler13 library from oneiric
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/libpoppler13 -- download links at
the bottom) and confirm that this fixes the xpdf crash (please do that
only if you also know how you could revert such a manual installation)?

[Bug 820865] Re: pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss

2011-08-04 Thread tanoloco
Extra comments:

A)
This happens only when trying to cut folders (files work fine).

B)
This happens only when trying to paste them on a destination folder without
write permission on an external usb drive (local target folders work fine).

NB:
When I say "it works fine" I mean that, after receiving the message "permission
denied" on cut&past as described, the original copy is just kept as expected.

I just double checked on a test install from the 20110803.1-i386 image
with no updates applied and post-installation the newly installed Ubuntu
can be successfully rebooted using the instructions in comment #6, that
is restart is successful from the login screen.

It's only in the live session that restart is unsuccessful from the
upper right hand corner of the login screen.

[Bug 820866] [NEW] ISO install problem: package vlan is missing

2011-08-04 Thread UWP
Public bug reported:

This bug-description is just to get a bit pressure onto the new oneiric
ISO media. The bug I filed here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/787488

seems to be forgotten. But: this is important for new ISO install media!
The package vlan is mandatory for everyone in Germany who uses a VDSL
modem like me. Otherwise it's not possible to get an internet connection
with Ubuntu! I repeat: The vlan package is IMPORTANT for any install
media! Now is the time, it's almost feature freeze for oneiric! Please:
add the package vlan to the install media! It was a complete mess for me
installing natty without the vlan package! I had to use my phone to get
the vlan package onto my internet machine...

[Bug 820868] [NEW] Phantom package management error while trying to install nvidia driver with jockey

2011-08-04 Thread Jan Rathmann
Public bug reported:

Hello,

after installing Oneiric for Alpha 3-testing, I was as usual trying to
installing the propritary Nvidia driver via Jockey.

But this was unsuccessfull, resulting in a package management error
message that poped up shortly after the "Downloading and installing
driver"-progress dialog appeared (see attached screenshot), saying
"Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.".

The interesting thing is, despite the error message there seemed to be nothing
wrong regarding package management on my system.
"dpkg --configure -a" showed nothing, and trying to install nvidia-current via
Synaptic worked without any problem or warning.

So there seems to be an issue with Jockey believing, that somethings
wrong with the package management, which in reality isn't the case.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 820865] [NEW] pcmanfm cut&paste a folder to a destination folder withouth write permission causes data loss

2011-08-04 Thread tanoloco
Public bug reported:

1. create a folder on your desktop
for example ~/Desktop/test/

2. mount an external usb on which there's a folder on which you don't have
write permission
for example /media/usbdisk/nowrite/ root:root 755

3. cut your folder on the desktop & paste it on the usb folder using the gui,
which simply means:
- right-click on the folder "test" on your desktop and choose "cut"
- use pcmanfm to go to the usb folder and right-click on it and choose "past"

4. A window with the progress bar will open with an error on it saying
"test: Error creating directory: permission denied"

After that the original folder "test" on the desktop disappears, and of course
there's no copy on the target folder.
As a consequence you loose your original folder and all data in it.

The original folder is removed while the error window is shown, the
removing process doesn't wait for the user to press the close button on
that window.

Tested with:
- pcmanfm 0.9.7 on lubuntu 10.10
- pcmanfm 0.9.9 on lubuntu 11.04
- pcmanfm 0.9.9 on ubuntu 11.04

[Bug 702550] Re: X forgets xinput settings on suspend

2011-08-04 Thread Fionn
I'd like to strongly emphasize my opinion that this is certainly NOT a
duplicate of #554984.
Bug #554984 is about enabling tracpoint scrolling generally.

THIS bug, however, is about X forgetting certain settings, namely the
trackpoint wheel emulation, which have been enabled via xinput, during an S3
(suspend to ram) cycle.
Since X is not being restarted in the course of this event, it should also not
change or forget its settings.

Putting the required statements into .xsessionrc as recommended in
#554984 as a workaround does not apply for this bug, too, since that
file is only evaluated at X startup and not at resume from s3.

[Bug 774434] Re: mouse pointer disappears in ubuntu 11.04

2011-08-04 Thread Joaquim Arlandis
Same problem.

Just to let you know, the only way I've found to recover the mouse
pointer while preserving the current user session is by entering the
SUSPEND mode and then restarting the computer. This way, after the video
driver settings are restored the pointer is visible again.

[Bug 814703] Re: empathy icon looks bigger than usual

2011-08-04 Thread 3vi1
Yours actually renders better than on my systems. On mine, I can see
the whole icon... but with a big gray background - and it covers up
other items on the notifications panel. Other white-listed apps show
the same behavior... though their icons tend to be the proper size.

I hadn't opened a bug on it, since it renders exactly the same on both
of my very dissimilar systems (i980x desktop with nVidia graphics, and
CR-48 with intel chipset) - so I figured it was a known bug from the
gtk3 conversion that just hadn't been worked out.

[Bug 750140] Re: "Log Out" is unhelpfully unavailable in live session

2011-08-04 Thread Erick Brunzell
Logout is back in 20110803.1-i386 live session but please re comment #7
in bug 815077.

Sorry for any confusion but once we get to the 4th or 5th builds during
an iso-testing cycle my brain begins to show it's age ;^)

2011-08-04 Thread Tom Ellis
Thanks David, do you have any packages with these patches so I can test them on
the Latitude 2120?
I can knock one together if the answer is no :)

[Bug 820862] Re: STL mesh import fails. No vertex or faces readed.

2011-08-04 Thread rtorres
** Description changed:

- When readinf a STL file, no vertex or faces are readed. Same STL on Windows
or in maverick 32bits works without problem.
- When readinf OBJ file with only vertex inside, the vertex are read, but not
diplayed (verten count in lower window side shows the correct vertex count)
+ When reading a STL file, no vertex or faces are readed. Same STL on Windows
or in maverick 32bits works without problem.
+ When reading OBJ file with only vertex inside, the vertex are read, but not
displayed (vertex count in lower window side shows the correct vertex count)
Seems a problem with 64 bits.

[Bug 820820] Re: cups-pdf should not convert PDF print jobs to PS then to PDF

2011-08-04 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
There are two sides to this story. Those who only use pure PDF documents
and who need something to print them to a spool, and those who actually
want to be able to manipulate the output via Ghostscrpt first. The main
issue with the PDF workflow patch was that it prevented those who want
to manipulate the output via cups-pdf.conf Ghostscript options from
doing so; it hard-coded too many things and it removed upstream
functionality from CUPS-PDF. That produced endless criticism against the
patch's impact upon the package's lost flexibility. If someone ever came
up with a less intrusive version of this patch, upstream would gladly
merge it.
