[Bug 828112] Re: Password field feedback slow at times

2011-08-31 Thread Jason Warner
I a similar experience and when it happened for me, the mouse was also
very laggy. So laggy in fact that I had to abandon moving the mouse at
all and just get out of the greeter.

It was happening pretty consistently for about 2 days and then it went
away as I was trying to debug it. Trying to replicate now with Robert's
help.

[Bug 836229] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 26-aug-2011 daily build won't boot

2011-08-31 Thread peterzay
apport information

** Tags added: oneiric running-unity

** Description changed:

  Oneiric Ocelot will NOT boot on Lenovo SL500 laptop and an old HP
  desktop. After white/orange dotted animation, you get a message:
  starting kernel oops [ok], a few more lines and then a hanging black
  screen. Holding power button a few seconds gives a screen with more
  details on the lines above and suggests to remove CD and press ENTER.
  ENTER has no effect, so another power button press powers the PC down.
  I noticed kernel version is 3.0 which makes me wonder about x.0
  buggyness in the software realm.

[Bug 741628] Re: simple-scan creates broken PDF's

2011-08-31 Thread Robert Ancell
The solution was found by Rafał Mużyło in this bug:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=380429

This is now fixed for 3.1.90.

To fix broken documents run the following:
simple-scan --fix-pdf ~/Documents/*.pdf

It should be safe to run this on all PDF documents but PLEASE BACKUP
FIRST. It will also copy the existing document to DocumentName.pdf~ so
you have those in case anything goes wrong.

If you can't wait for the next simple-scan, you can also run this Python
program (i.e. python fixpdf.py broken.pdf > fixed.pdf)
import sys
import re

lines = file (sys.argv[1]).readlines ()

xref_offset = int(lines[-2])

xref_offset = 0
for (n, line) in enumerate (lines):
# Fix PDF header and binary comment
if (n == 0 or n == 1) and line.startswith ('%%'):
xref_offset -= 1
line = line[1:]

# Fix xref format
match = re.match ('(\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d\d)  n\n', line)
if match != None:
offset = int (match.groups ()[0])
line = '%010d 0 n \n' % (offset + xref_offset)

# Fix xref offset
if n == len(lines) - 2:
line = '%d\n' % (int (line) + xref_offset)

# Fix EOF marker
if n == len(lines) - 1 and line.startswith (''):
line = line[2:]

print line,

[Bug 838487] [NEW] Loosing VirtualBox OSE Manager window in Unity

2011-08-31 Thread Luke Scharf
Public bug reported:

The VirtualBox OSE Manager window can be lost in Unity:
1. Open VirtualBox OSE Manager
2. Start a VM
3. Close VirtualBox OSE Manager window

The intuitive way to get the Window back in Unity would be:
1. Click on the VirtualBox icon in the dock (which brings VM to the foreground)
2. From the VM window's menu. (no option exists.)

Workaround:
Run "virtualbox" from gnome-terminal.

The existing behavior of VirtualBox is very intuitive with the
traditional GUI. It's a jsut mismatch with Unity's new paradigm. I
would classify it as a usability issue when running under Unity, though.

[Bug 838273] Re: Manual partionning: ubiquity crashed when I clicked on "change the partition"

2011-08-31 Thread Stéphane Graber
I reproduced it once and got the following stacktrace:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/679259

I fixed the crash handler part of it but the other crashes don't make much
sense to me.
The TreeItem class always has a parentItem attribute as it's created by its
constructor and as far as i can tell isn't being messed with by anything in the
code.

I couldn't find another definition of Treeitem somewhere else which
could have overriden the one in PartitionModel.

Unfortunately I can't reproduce it reliably so I can't really debug it.
If someone can indeed reproduce it every time around, please write
complete step by step instructions so I can try to get the same here.

Attaching your /var/log/ubiquity/debug file may be helpful too once my
other fix is in (so the crash handler doesn't crash).

[Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-08-31 Thread susu
I also have 3830TG, but it is running Arch Linux, not Ubuntu. Since it
is not an Ubuntu specific bug, I thougth i post my ugly script I have
cut and pasted from HDA_Analyzer scripts. I have 3.0 kernel, so be
careful on different kernels.

I added that script to my boot process (rc), but I would not complain it
here, since AFAIK Ubuntu uses different rc system. (tested only with
root)

With this kernel when I plug in my headphones into jack, the internal
speakers muted, and when I pull off, speakers turn on again.

My uname -a just for sure:
Linux archie 3.0-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 17 21:55:57 CEST 2011 x86_64
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

Michael Saur (msaur): thanks for your "off-topic" answer about
brightness issue, it helped me a lot :)

I have attached the script.

[Bug 838452] Re: ubuntu 11.04 installation crashed

2011-08-31 Thread Sérgio Faria
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

By reading syslog it seems you ran out of space and thats why it crashed. Are
you sure you're installing it on the "Slave" disk?
I think you need to select manual partitioning/advanced partitioning when
installing to select another disk.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

No crashes, but perhaps because I didn't let it run long enough in that
configuration. As soon as I noticed the driver crashing, I reported the

[Bug 791607] Re: Oneiric Eucalyptus fails to start up

2011-08-31 Thread graziano obertelli
@dave: very good point! And my apologies: I'm trying to catch up but I'm
clearly behind. I think you do carry patches to work with gwt 1.6, so
you are indeed right: this issue is not a gwt one.

There may be an easy fix: would you be willing to try it? I attach it
here. In short, the code seems wrong, since in one branch we change an
immutable object. Since the fault happen in an else statement, I assume
that oneric for whatever reason is triggering it. I don't know enough to
really understand why though.
