[Bug 781385] Re: Ubiquity GTK should have useful accessible names set in the Glade .ui files instead of using the variable names
Can we stop doing this now or do automated tests need to run up to release? I would like to have the opportunity to test the installer with the correct sound output so we can document it prior to release, there is no point doing videos of the install process if it is reading out the variable names rather than the text it should say because that would be misleading. I would point out that the only way the LDTP tests work at all is by leveraging the work that has been put into accessibility, so breaking accessibility just to make the testing easier is a bit harsh. Could the tests not use the regular accessible names to find widgets? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/781385 Title: Ubiquity GTK should have useful accessible names set in the Glade .ui files instead of using the variable names To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/781385/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 858493] [NEW] By default ntpd listens on all interfaces
Public bug reported: The default ntp configuration that ships with ubuntu has ntp listening on all interfaces when in most instances that's not needed. Adding the line: interface ignore wildcard to ntp.conf disables this and makes ntp only listen to localhost, which is enough for things like ntpq to still work. It would probably be even safer for it not to listen on any interfaces but that doesn't seem to be possible as "interface ignore all" seems to be completely ignored and "interface ignore lo" only disables localhost on ipv6. It seems listening to localhost on ipv4 is hardcoded into ntpd. [Bug 858122] Re: incomplete migration to /run
> If you are relying on a one-time script at shutdown to do the migration, > maybe you need to verify it worked OK and re-run it ASAP in the boot process > too. Unfortunately, the shutdown script itself explains why this is not possible: # These must be turned into symlinks for the /run transition. We # can't do this at boot time because / is remounted read-write too # late, so do it on shutdown instead. There is no point in the boot sequence when / is writable that we are guaranteed to be able to replace /var/run with a symlink safely, because /run is mounted *before* / is writable and this causes other processes to start up that may be creating sockets in /var/run. So we really, really need to figure out why this script isn't working for you at shutdown. Unfortunately this is difficult to do since there are certainly no logs from this point in the shutdown sequence, and the problem has not been widely reproducible. [Bug 858480] [NEW] Opening vlc with non-existing file causes Xorg to use massive amounts of memory
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce (this is on up-to-date oneiric): - Install http://apt.ubuntu.com/p/vlc - Open gnome-terminal - Type "vlc i-do-not-exist.avi" (where "i-do-not-exist.avi" should indeed not exist) The system will become completely unresponsive in seconds. Switching to a VT (which will take a while with all the swapping) and running "top" (and press '>' to sort by memory usage) will show that Xorg is using (in my case) 3+ GiB of memory. Issuing "killall vlc" and switching back to VT 7 will make the system responsive again after a little while, and Xorg will return to more normal memory usage levels. I think that Xorg's ability to stop using the extra memory implies that this is not a memory leak in Xorg, but that vlc is indeed requesting Xorg to allocate all that memory. In case it helps, the output from vlc in gnome-terminal is: $ vlc i-do-not-exist.avi VLC media player 1.1.11 The Luggage (revision exported) Blocked: call to unsetenv("DBUS_ACTIVATION_ADDRESS") Blocked: call to unsetenv("DBUS_ACTIVATION_BUS_TYPE") [0x788120] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. I am using a Toshiba NB 305 netbook with a 1024 x 600 (16:9) resolution display and have a Xerox 19" LCD VGA with a external monitor with a resolution of 1280 x 1024 (5:4) attached which I am using as my primary monitor. I have the netbook display disabled. When I get to the login screen the login only fills the to right quarter of the Xerox Monitor leaving the rest of the screen blank. After logging in, the display shows the full background tiled in four tiles before the full single background is displayed and unity comes up fully. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/857375 Title: unity launcher does not display after login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/857375/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 857375] Re: unity launcher does not display after login
I ran Update to make sure my system was up to date. I rebooted my machine and tested to see if the bug was occurring. It was so I opened a terminal and ran unity --reset as you requested. Unity reset and the launcher was shown. However; it had changed from `auto hide` to `dodge window` I rebooted again to see if the bug would reoccur. The launcher correctly opened and operated with the `dodge window` setting. I changed the launcher setting to `auto hide` and rebooted again and the launcher behaved correctly. I will keep an eye on it to see if it occurs again. When I ran the unity --reset command in the terminal several errors were reported. I pasted them into a text file and will attach it to this bug report. After running the unity --reset command in the terminal; the terminal never returned to the command prompt. [Bug 858459] Re: lock up on boot when network cable is unplugged
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released.
