version 1.4.2-8ubuntu2

Upgrading directly to 11.10 from 10.10 isn't supported. If you'd followed the
supported upgrade path and upgraded through 11.04, it would have been fine.

[Bug 814610] Re: FFe: Since showing devices in Nautilus is removed, there is no way to format an usb stick

2011-09-25 Thread Didier Roche
Somes notes from #ubuntu-desktop, which makes me think it's not that
urgent for oneiric finally as palimpset has what is needed and there is
an issue as unmounted sticks are not shown in the launcher by default.

didrocks | pitti: I transformed an old tracking issue to a FFe as a contributor
worked on it: bug #814610. If you can have a look, I opened because I think
it's a regression in Oneiric
ubot2 | Launchpad bug 814610 in unity "FFe: Since showing devices in
Nautilus is removed, there is no way to format an usb stick" [Wishlist,In
progress] https://launchpad.net/bugs/814610
pitti | didrocks: hm, I don't see unmounted USB devices in the launcher any
more; should I?

pitti | that seems to be a prerequisite for doing anything with usb devices

didrocks | pitti: really? last time I check, they were

   * | didrocks try to get one

   pitti | hm

pitti | now it works, of course

jbicha | didrocks: Disk Utility can format USB drives, it may be a bit
complex though

pitti | palimpsest is not too bad for this indeed

pitti | I don't think we need a format option right in the launcher

didrocks | pitti: you're right, sometimes it's still in the launcher, sometimes
not…

didrocks | ok, let's pend that for later then, commenting on it
jbicha | don't want to make re-formatting too easy, hate to misclick on that
one...

[Bug 760632] Re: Resizing Konsole crashes the whole system

2011-09-25 Thread Peter Cao
I manually installed the latest nvidia driver from their site and got an
error that the kernel module was mismatched with the nvidia driver
version. My display manger wouldn't even start until I purged and
reinstalled the problematic version of nvidia again. See
http://askubuntu.com/questions/37590/nvidia-drivers-not-working-after-
upgrade-why-can-i-only-see-terminal.

I don't know how you guys are doing it without all sorts of
complications arising. It broke my system and now I am back to the
offending version again. Now I'm scared to resize windows. This bug
has been up for 5 months. Why hasn't the new driver been officially
passed through to the official repositories?

Doing unofficial things break your system. Especially if you are not an
expert and there is a lack of official guidance on issues like this. I
have to trawl through forums and I don't feel comfortable having to
perform changes that could break my system. I don't mind Debian being
like this because they don't have any pretenses of being user friendly,
but I expected more from Kubuntu. :(

[Bug 814610] Re: FFe: Since showing devices in Nautilus is removed, there is no way to format an usb stick

2011-09-25 Thread Didier Roche
I guess that needs a FFe now and poking the translation team once done
as well.

** Summary changed:

- Since showing devices in Nautilus is removed, there is no way to format an
usb stick
+ FFe: Since showing devices in Nautilus is removed, there is no way to format
an usb stick

** Description changed:

- After talking to John, formatting an usb stick can be added in the
- device launcher quicklist directly (with a confirmation prompt).
+ Pretty huge regression in Oneiric: we have 3 ways of unmouting an usb key,
but nothing anymore obvious (as far as I know) to format one stick.
+ After talking to John, formatting an usb stick can be added in the device
launcher quicklist directly (with a confirmation prompt).

[Bug 859406] [NEW] Keyboard Layout and Language Support panels are redundant

2011-09-25 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Using Gnome Shell, System Settings has a panel labelled “Keyboard
Layout” and another labelled “Language Support.” The Keyboard Layout
panel is built in to gnome-control-center, and appears to have been
renamed from upstream's title, Region and Language. However, the first
thing in that “Keyboard Layout” panel is _display language_.

Language Support here is redundant, and (/or) the title that has been
patched into the Keyboard Layout panel is misleading.

[Bug 859404] [NEW] [Oneiric] the Speech-dispatcher automatic killing related patch are dropped out with gnome-orca Oneiric version

2011-09-25 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Dear Developers,

In prewious Orca releases if anybody enabled the kill X Server related hotkey
(CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE), Orca automaticaly kill and restart Speech-dispatcher
process to prowide speech support without the user manual need running killall
speech-dispatcher command. This possibility is awailable, if anybody enabling
the CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE key combination to kill X server in GNOME Control Center
Keyboard Layout pane/preferences dialog part.
This patch is only an Ubuntu level patch, and doesn't reported this problem
with upstream level. For example, with Orca master versions if the X server is
killed and the user login a session, need manual killing Speech-dispatcher
process and press a key to Speech-dispatcher begin talking again.
Now, this good working patch is dropped with Oneiric gnome-orca package.

I attached again Luke doed patch.
Possible putting back this patch the debian/patches directory in gnome-orca
source package, or reporting Orca related this Speech-dispatcher killing
related problem and attaching Luke patch?

For example, this patch are useful if need restarting lightdm login
manager with service lightdm restart command.

Attila

[Bug 859396] [NEW] gnome-screensaver locks after approx 10 minutes even if user settings are specify longer

2011-09-25 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After setting a screen lock timeout of, for example, 1 hour the screen
still locks after approx 10 minutes.

Looking at the code it appears gnome-screensaver puts an upper bound on
the lock timeout of 480 seconds (8 minutes), so user preferences of 1
hour will not function as expected.

I see no reason for an upper bound of 8 minutes, and this contradicts
the available options anyway.

I have built a fixed version in my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~andrew-
betts/+archive/misc

[Bug 825503] Re: Won't wake up from sleep

2011-09-25 Thread Joey K
I'm running a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 and I am having the same
issue. I have tried several fixes for other laptops with this problem
including blacklisting various components, running a script that makes
the computer only run on one core during resume, and even adding a
command to the kernel (I reinstalled after none of these worked).

[Bug 859389] [NEW] [i915] DVI monitor via adapter to DisplayPort is reported as HDMI.

2011-09-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

I have a DisplayPort with a passive DVI adapter plugged into it to run
my DVI monitor. However the i915 module seems to want to call this
connection "HDMI1".

Call it DisplayPort or DVI. Either would be correct. But HDMI is wrong.

This occurs on Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10beta2.

$ grep conn /sys/class/drm/*/status
/sys/class/drm/card0-DP-1/status:disconnected
/sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/status:connected
/sys/class/drm/card0-VGA-1/status:disconnected

$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1200, maximum 8192 x 8192
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 connected 1920x1200+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 519mm
x 324mm
   1920x1200 60.0*+
   1600x1200 60.0
   1680x1050 60.0
   1280x1024 75.0 60.0
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 60.0
   800x60075.0 60.3
   640x48075.0 60.0
   720x40070.1
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

This is probably because the DisplayPort is running in DVI/HDMI mode
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Compatibility_with_HDMI.2FDVI]

But it's still wrong to call a DVI connection through DisplayPort
"HDMI".

This bug might be caused by the fix for bug 702125.
