[Bug 879615] Re: kernel panic on shutdown
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . If possible, please test the latest release candidate kernel (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the others). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed by the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream-KERNEL-VERSION'. For example, if kernel version 3.1-rc9 fixed and issue, the tag would be: 'kernel-fixed- upstream-v3.1-rc9'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879615 Title: kernel panic on shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/879615/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 879625] [NEW] CUPS fails to request authentication when printing over IPP w/ TLS
Public bug reported: We have a CUPS server configured to allow printing over IPP w/ TLS. Printing requires the user to authenticate using basic authentication. When printers are set up in Ubuntu 11.04 and lower, the user is prompted to enter their username and password when they attempt to print. However, on upgrading to 11.04 (or doing a fresh install), the user no longer gets a prompt and the job does not go through. The error logs show some TLS errors, however printing proceeds normally if authentication is removed. Here is a relevant chunk from the error_log on the server (running 1.4.3, but this was tested and duplicated on an ubuntu 11.10 server): D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: clients=2 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: jobs=6 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: jobs-active=0 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: printers=5 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: printers-implicit=0 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: stringpool-string-count=1029 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: stringpool-alloc-bytes=8408 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] Report: stringpool-total-bytes=22432 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] cupsdReadClient: 11 POST /printers/Xerox_Color HTTP/1.1 D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] cupsdSetBusyState: Active clients D [20/Oct/2011:16:00:14 -0400] cupsdAuthorize: No authentication data provided. [Bug 879627] [NEW] Brasero crashes the hole system – simple reboot -> pc still broken
Public bug reported: Oneiric 64-Bit up-to-date Unity 3D Brasero 3.2.0 What you expected to happen: Burning an iso should work flawless. What happened instead: START - Select and start iso image burning using a blank new CD. - Firefox freezes and systems feels like it is under heavy load ~30 sec → 'System monitor' says low cup usage MIDTERM - Brasero seems to work correct for 1 minute. Firefox is no longer friezed. END - Brasero says that 'burning was successful', but the mouse wheel icon is still turning and the disk not ejected. I wait ~1 min. - Firefox freezes again. I try to open a terminal using a shortcut - doesn't work. - I try to open a terminal using the Dash - Dash opens, I can search and click → doesn't work. It's still possible to click on windows and get them focused - but it isn't longer possible to really interact with the computer. - I try 'CTRL+ALT+F1'. After login I get immediately this message: [25612.493259] end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 67385240 - Can't write only the error message is displayed. - I try other "virtual" terminals with the same result. - I do a hard reboot using the hardware key on the computer. Next shock - it doesn't boot, new error message: DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT DISK AND PRESS ENTER - I pressed the power button of the computer longer to shut it down. After a view seconds I booted again - everything is fine. This isn't the first time I have problems with Brasero. Every new Ubuntu iteration I'll give it a try and it never worked for me. Brasero doesn't work either with my old Pentium 4. Thats why I use K3B most of the time - KDE interface but it works. [Bug 872711] Re: Kernel does not report some USB printers correctly, making them not being detected by CUPS
May be, Till. I've got an HP DeskJet 710C for parallel port connected to USB via the Prolific adapter (067b:2305 - the same you mentioned earlier). It is visible - output of the mentioned commands is principally the same as on the computer on which the printer works. In other words, lsusb detects the prolific adapter and when running the second command, the only difference when I connect the printer is that one row is added, that has the group column value 'lp' instead of 'root' and the current time. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/872711 Title: Kernel does not report some USB printers correctly, making them not being detected by CUPS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/872711/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 508545] Re: Aptitude ignores /etc/apt/preferences.d/*
I can confirm the bug is fixed in Lucid. Aptitude now respects the preferences file(s) in /etc/apt/preferences.d/. @Rolf: It is very easy to replicate. Create a preferences file: Package: totem-mozilla Pin: version 2.30.0git20100413-0ubuntu1 Pin-Priority: 1001 Remove totem-mozilla package. Install it, you will get BROKEN package messages (expected). Now move the preferences file to /etc/apt/preferences.d and install totem-mozilla once again. It will now install the highest possible version which should not happen. Install the -proposed aptitude version and rinse repeat, now you will get in either situation (/etc/apt, /etc/apt/preferences.d) the BROKEN package message (as expected). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508545 Title: Aptitude ignores /etc/apt/preferences.d/* To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/aptitude/+bug/508545/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 879620] [NEW] iPod "Import to library" doesn't copy any metadata, but dragging does
Public bug reported: Right clicking on an iPod (touch 4G in my case) in the left pane and clicking "Import to library" copies the raw music files but not with any metadata - so you get a huge list of files like GTRN.mp3 by the end with no title, artist or album. Going into the iPod's music in the left pane, however, and selecting all tracks then dragging them to the library, copies them with all metadata intact. I have included a screenshot of the last screen. I have done a fresh install from cd but the problem still occurs. I ran ubuntu-bug linux to generate this report. [Bug 879616] [NEW] horizontal scrolling behaviour of Unicode blocks list is wrong
Public bug reported: In version 3.2.0 (on Xubuntu), the horizontal alignment/scrolling behaviour of the listbox of Unicode block names is such that whenever the box is resized to a width smaller than the longest string in the box, all strings are pushed out of the box towards the left, rather than being truncated on the right. [Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken
I confirm the behavior reported in this bug with the Nautilus package 3.2.1 from oneiric-proposed. Specifically, pressing backspace does not delete the last character from the search string as expected, but instead navigates backward to the parent directory, and the search box is not quickly cleared after pressing enter to navigate into a child directory. These are definite regressions from the behavior of Nautilus in Ubuntu 11.04 which seriously affect the usability of the program. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879456 Title: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/879456/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also looked into /var/log and it appears three files consistently have new messages upon *opening* the lid, but nothing on closing: auth.log: Oct 21 11:18:24 maniac-envy su[3099]: Successful su for maniac by root Oct 21 11:18:24 maniac-envy su[3099]: + ??? root:maniac Oct 21 11:18:24 maniac-envy su[3099]: pam_unix(su:session): session opened for user maniac by (uid=0) Oct 21 11:18:25 maniac-envy su[3099]: pam_unix(su:session): session closed for user maniac syslog and kern.log: Oct 21 11:18:24 maniac-envy kernel: [ 390.672734] [drm:ironlake_update_pch_refclk] *ERROR* enabling SSC on PCH Another small observation is that the screen itself switches off in the closed state but it's probably a purely hardware switch… -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/854404 Title: HP Envy 14 doesn't suspend by closing lid To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/854404/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
