[Bug 885085] [NEW] Formula gets in a way while editing and prevents selection of the adjacent cell.
Public bug reported: Problem description: I often cannot select the adjacent cell to add it to the formula when the last one is too long. It depends on the formatting but I didn't find the formatting that will constrain the formula within it's cell. Steps to reproduce: See the attached screenshot. [Bug 861061] Re: Running compiz makes 3D apps like glxspheres (VirtualGL) perform worse.
In order to avoid this bug becoming a vague never-ending discussion about hearsay desktop performance, I have updated the bug title and description to be more specific and reproducible. Now the bug is confirmed. If you can't reproduce the bug using the exact test case in the Bug Description then please don't add any more comments to this one and log a new bug instead. ** Summary changed: - compiz 3d performance regression + Running compiz makes 3D apps like glxspheres (VirtualGL) perform worse. ** Description changed: + TEST CASE: + + 1. Install VirtualGL from http://sourceforge.net/projects/virtualgl/files/VirtualGL/2.2.90%20%282.3beta1%29/ + 2. Run /opt/VirtualGL/bin/glxspheres{64} + 3. Note the frame rate that glxspheres reports. + + This frame rate is significantly lower when running compiz (Unity), than + when running Unity-2D or Gnome Shell (3.2). + + ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: + A recent update to compiz in oneiric has had a big impact on 3d performance. The desktop feels more sluggish, and the glxspheres benchmark indicates about half the performance compared to metacity and mutter (on my Sandy Bridge GPU I get 30-32 fps in unity/compiz vs 59-60 fps in both unity-2d/metacity and gnome-shell/mutter). Previously compiz matched the performance of metacity and mutter. I also tested the oneiric beta2 live CD (amd64) and performance was similar (ie regressed compared to beta1). [Bug 861061] Re: compiz 3d performance regression
Compiz has a Benchmark plugin in the compiz-plugins-extra package. However in my experience it is grossly inaccurate and does not represent the current frame rate that compiz is actually achieving. The frame rate that compiz tries to use is determined by the Composite settings: Detect Refresh Rate and Refresh Rate. You should try tweaking them with Detect Refresh Rate off and increasing Refresh Rate. Sorry I don't know a reliable way to get output from compiz about the rate it is actually achieving. But I don't think you should trust the Benchmark plugin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/861061 Title: compiz 3d performance regression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/861061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 885070] [NEW] "Move to Another Workspace" causes window to disappear
Public bug reported: After logging into the "Ubuntu" session (this does not happen with "Ubuntu 2D", only 3D), moving a window to another workspace makes it disappear. I tried this with several applications in the launcher, and got the same result. Although the processes aren't dead, they no longer show as open in the Unity launcher, and disappear. I've got a 3x3 workspace grid. The other strange thing, which might be related, is that the pull-down menu always shows "Move to Workspace Right" even if it's not possible to go right, and no other relative options (Left, Up, Down) are ever shown even when it's possible to go in those directions given the current position in the grid. I suppose this could be a compiz bug as it doesn't happen with metacity. I wasn't sure whether to file it under compiz or unity. [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
The nvidiabl driver now detects ThinkPad T510s with model 4313CTO. This will not allow gnome-power-manager to control the backlight, but at least the keys will worksort of. With autodetected values, brightness can be turned down all the way, but can only be set to a proper maximum by switching to a VT and turning the brightness down a notch. If anyone would like to play around with backlight values, the instructions below will get them set up. nvidiabl's source can be modified to work with other ThinkPad models as well. ACPI backlight control must be set to vendor, the thinkpad_acpi module's brightness controls must be disabled and the brightness keys must be bound using acpi events. ACPI backlight controls can be set to vendor by setting 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi_backlight=vendor"' in /etc/default/grub and then running update-grub. thinkpad_acpi's brightness controls can be disabled by creating /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf and adding the line "options thinkpad_acpi brightness_enable=0". nvidiabl source can be obtained from https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl , then installed by dkms. The scripts "nvidia_backlight_down.sh" and "nvidia_backlight_up.sh" should be copied from the scripts folder to /etc/acpi. Then the brightness keys can be bound to those scripts by creating/filling the following files: /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-4313cto-brightness-down event=video LCD0 0087 action=/etc/acpi/nvidia_backlight_down.sh /etc/acpi/events/lenovo-4313cto-brightness-up event=video LCD0 0086 action=/etc/acpi/nvidia_backlight_up.sh ACPI events were determined using acpi_listen. Alternately, there are .deb packages that install nvidiabl via dkms available from https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl/downloads . Currently only 4313CTO models have backlight support by default, but it's only a matter of adding PCI IDs and some basic detection stuff. That stuff can be passed when the module is loaded, check the docs for details. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562005 Title: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/562005/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 861061] Re: compiz 3d performance regression
I'm now getting 50-52fps. Still no rhyme nor reason to this! Is there a way I can get any useful debugging output, eg to see what compiz is treating as the frame rate or where it is waiting for something before drawing to the screen? I've turned off both ccsm flags that say 'Sync to VBlank' but surely it must be applying this somewhere anyway for it to run so slow.
