[Bug 893431] [NEW] Random Display Freeze, Multiple Times a Day
Public bug reported: I was running 10.04, but did a clean install of 11.10, and I get complete freezes on a regular basis. Before this, 10.04 was incredibly stable. I can't use the keyboard, and the mouse pointer does not move. Easy way to reproduce, I have a skype conversation, and then move a window. That tends to do it quite easily. I've noticed if I'm listening to music, the music does keep playing, so it's not a kernel panic. I upgraded to the latest nvidia driver (285.05.09) in an attempt to fix the issue, but just had a freeze, so that wasn't it. I also note that since I upgraded, my fans run a lot, as it looks like my nvidia card is doing a lot of work with Unity, even when I'm not actively using it. It never did this under 10.04 (and I use to have a lot of Compiz effects running). Next time it freezes, I'll be sure to ssh in and get a tail of the dmesg. Let me know what I can do to help. [Bug 92599] Re: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver
The compiz fix for bug 880707 is the change that I think might solve (hide) this bug. I am getting a new Nvidia card today so I can retest this. However the current proposed fix for bug 880707 is much too complex and risky to put in updates right now. It needs much more testing. Also, the compiz administrator wants to completely rewrite it according to my emails this morning. So much more work and debate yet. In the best case, when we agree on the final compiz fix for bug 880707 (not the unity fix), then I'll put it in my PPA for all 11.10 users to try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/92599 Title: Incorrect (low/stuttering) refresh rate with NVIDIA driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/92599/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 883242] Re: [M-6862, SigmaTel STAC9205, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all
Thanks for your report. It appears that you have a system that has an HDMI output, and the HDMI output is selected as the audio output device. TO change this, click on the speaker icon at the top right hand corner of the screen, and choose sound settings. Go into the output tab, and change the sound card and output connector you want to use to your preference. Hope this helps. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/883242 Title: [M-6862, SigmaTel STAC9205, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/883242/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 487720] Re: Restore fails with "Invalid data - SHA1 hash mismatch"
I thought I'd write a little HOWTO on recovering from this bug, in case people hit it from using versions that aren't fixed. It won't be able to restore all original files, but you can restore most. The central issue is that one or several of the backup volumes will be corrupted and likely not the correct size. So the first step is to identify which ones. The second step will be to restore everything *but* the files that are supposed to be in that volume. Step 1: Identify corrupted volumes A) Find your manifest file. If you did not encrypt your backup, it will end in ".manifest". If you did, it will end in ".manifest.gpg" and you will first have to run "gpg --decrypt MANIFESTFILE" to decrypt it. B) Search for the provided "Manifest hash" in the error message. It will be a string like "11cd330357618de52e4e5361a6e63b09ee951ae2". This will show you which volume is corrupted. C) In this same volume block, you can see "StartingPath" and "EndPath". This is the range of files that are supposed to be in that volume. You won't be able to get these back. :-/ Step 2: Restoring all other files D) Using Deja Dup, you can restore many files at once by using either the "lost files" method [1] or the "revert files" method [2]. Make sure you avoid trying to restore any file that you found to be inside a corrupted volume. [Bug 885738] Re: Dash - Remove Dash Home shortcut icons
@John Lea (johnlea) Thanks for the reply John. I entirely understand the limitations and dynamics you mentioned. I like and use Unity both professionally and personally and am happy with it's current state. My personal view is that this is a mistake: Being present in forums, including Ubuntu one, and online communities, as well as seeing real life implementations of Ubuntu at work and clients, the constant complain I hear from users about it is it's lack of configurability - not the lack of yet a new lens (real users don't get default lens / won't install new lenses - this is for the "hackers"). Ex: Today I tried to help a visually challenged adult user at the forums who couldn't find a way to increase the mouse cursor to something he could see. It broke me inside. He blames Unity, as in "the efforts put on Ubuntu Software Center, lightdm, better blur for the dash, lenses, etc didn't take under consideration what visually impaired need". That's a real user need, hard to disagree. But, considering what you mention, in terms of the absence of enough resources and this politics over the LTS (which was unknown to me), there's no way out. You gotta do what you gotta do. I can comprehend that. Thanks for your attention to the issue. Yeah, the haskell thing isn't that important. Some distros have never included the server piece. Gentoo for example, since most people just play on the public server. [Bug 885651] Re: fresh install of ubuntu-server fails to boot
I was able to install grub from a live cd and boot onereic server from the grub command line but now it wont recognise my password to log in. Two critical bugs and I haven't even logged in yet... After I cleaned away the soot from my ears where the flames came out, I pulled some passwd, shadow, and group files from a backup and replaced those in the onereic install, that got me in but created some other issues. [Bug 893413] [NEW] machines halts for a short period of time at arbitrary intervals
Public bug reported: The machine appears to halt at random intervals for random short amounts of time. In the dmesg output there is sometimes several sometimes just one or a few back traces related to a missed ironlake_irq_handler. These backtraces don't coincide with each halt. The ui is affected by the halts in a variety of ways. Audio will skip, and sections of the file, though produce sound continuously. the mouse and keyboard are unresponsive. Sometimes a keypress will 'stick' and produce a steam of the appropriate letter on the screen for the duration of the halt. Desktop effects will halt mid-transition. [Bug 893395] Re: ext2 modular in precise but missing from fs-core-modules
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Tags added: kernel-request-3.2.0-1.2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893395 Title: ext2 modular in precise but missing from fs-core-modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/893395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 893400] [NEW] cloud-init: Output machine usable public ssh host key (for known_hosts)
Public bug reported: In bug #892554, Kees Cook (kees) makes a great suggestion that cloud- init could output the public ssh host keys to the console output. This could then be read by automated software outside of the instance and added to a known_hosts file using the IP address and/or hostname that the remote system wishes to use to connect to the instance. As Scott Moser (smoser) points out, the existing ssh host key fingerprints should be left in the output in the current de facto standard format so as to not break any existing software or human processes that check this. The new output should be added using a different set of public ssh host key delimiters (see proposed format below). There is no need to require a cloud-init configuration option; this information should always be output. Extra information in the console output should not interfere with any existing programs as long as it is separate from the existing formatted information. The simplest way to present the information might be to just print out the first two fields of all public host keys. For example: cut -f1-2 -d' ' /etc/ssh/ssh_host_*_key.pub The client system would query the console output, select one of these ssh host keys, and add it to known_hosts, prepended by the IP address and/or hostnames that it wishes to use to connect to the instance. Here's an example of what this might look like in the console output: -BEGIN PUBLIC SSH HOST KEYS- ssh-dss 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 ecdsa-sha2-nistp256 E2VjZHNhLXNoYTItbmlzdHAyNTYIbmlzdHAyNTYAAABBBD3aGodGnmPfXEWBRKKVW/zkKP+vC/HPBmNg87gcLLx+WwT7UQgKxsZXVWhccs2BEwbvik/dlfcQX1Zby0ZSYgQ= ssh-rsa B3NzaC1yc2EDAQABAAABAQC0I3L8UiDoF4LkzpJNHBDM2w9JFE6CbvmAQgW6+czbDOwvrFxQU2rw2HLLUOn+Z2WCE5AJSY7E7pxCrDo1v27hkVgaM6KqWks74vYxIkqfGCyf31y1N8QrmVCsAC74KFp9rhwP0uHmrN8XUIYFik8MoNphf+2aKWieJdZtzQGQ22mNNKDkP1yX3Uvb1QI+8d770dcIqr61AwkUBQgPgPyeii8W7r2+nq1lNQEnYts0N+13+40lEShnrRtsdKY6diEVs2uQId7VWw04lXOzWGi8oSWlunDWyRCQPtfvBFQtJ8AsivyZjmBuN9VJSDHLY1EQhXayygKfi6u6GKFVLZmd -END PUBLIC SSH HOST KEYS- And here's an example of what the client system might add to known_hosts: 50.16.12.209,ec2-50-16-12-209.compute-1.amazonaws.com ecdsa- sha2-nistp256 E2VjZHNhLXNoYTItbmlzdHAyNTYIbmlzdHAyNTYAAABBBD3aGodGnmPfXEWBRKKVW/zkKP+vC/HPBmNg87gcLLx+WwT7UQgKxsZXVWhccs2BEwbvik/dlfcQX1Zby0ZSYgQ= or with hashing: |1|q0CnRd/EVpfAXEVMAi7fqx0lFaI=|8BrFOu2+GGRMKDS+1WiVG8xpwt0= ecdsa- sha2-nistp256 E2VjZHNhLXNoYTItbmlzdHAyNTYIbmlzdHAyNTYAAABBBD3aGodGnmPfXEWBRKKVW/zkKP+vC/HPBmNg87gcLLx+WwT7UQgKxsZXVWhccs2BEwbvik/dlfcQX1Zby0ZSYgQ= ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: cloud-init 0.6.1-0ubuntu22 ProcVersionSignature: User Name 3.0.0-12.20-virtual 3.0.4 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-12-virtual i686 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu3 Architecture: i386 Date: Tue Nov 22 00:12:40 2011 Ec2AMI: ami-a7f539ce Ec2AMIManifest: (unknown) Ec2AvailabilityZone: us-east-1a Ec2InstanceType: m1.small Ec2Kernel: aki-805ea7e9 Ec2Ramdisk: unavailable PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: cloud-init UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug ec2-images i386 oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893400 Title: cloud-init: Output machine usable public ssh host key (for known_hosts) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/893400/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 892615] Re: 3.2.0-1-generic: completely fails to boot on Geode LX
[Bug 852603] Re: Please backport hedgewars (0.9.16-1) from precise to oneiric
I've spoken with the SRU team, and they concluded that updating hedgewars through our SRU process would be legitimate in order to fix network play. Given that, I'm going to re-arrange this bug from a backports bug to an SRU bug, and I will attempt to upload the SRU for Oneiric this evening. I'd like to also upload SRUs for older releases as well, but they don't build on those releases without source modifications due to changes in Ubuntu's Haskell toolchain, so that will probably take me a little more time to prepare. ** Summary changed: - Please backport hedgewars (0.9.16-1) from precise to oneiric + hedgewars << 0.9.17 can not play on official network server ** Changed in: oneiric-backports Status: Incomplete => Won't Fix ** Also affects: hedgewars (Ubuntu Lucid) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: hedgewars (Ubuntu Maverick) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: hedgewars (Ubuntu Oneiric) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: hedgewars (Ubuntu Natty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - hedgewars << 0.9.17 can not play on official network server + hedgewars << 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852603 Title: hedgewars << 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/852603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: + IMPACT: Old versions of hedgewars are unable to engage in network play + with newer versions of the game, including most users of the official + network server. + + DEVELOPMENT: Fixed by upgrading to 0.9.17, which was just synced into + Precise + + FIX: Backport of 0.9.17-1. No other source changes to 0.9.17-1 are + required for Oneiric; debdiff from 0.9.17-1 will be attached + momentarily. + + TEST CASE: + 1. Start hedgewars + 2. Enter a nickname if prompted + 3. Select network play (the globe with a missile shooting across it) + 4. Select "Official server" + 5. With the old version, observe that you are warned that Hedgewars is outdated + With the new version, observe that there is no warning + + REGRESSION: The behavior of hedgewars has already regressed, since + network play with current versions is affected. Hedgewars upstream does + not make separate features and bug fixes in these point releases - and + in fact it is generally new features which force bumping the network + protocol. This does mean that there is a priori more regression risk + than for a typical SRU. + + + Original bug description: 0.9.16 is a major release involving many new changes: http://hedgewars.org/node/3291 As with other releases, online play against older versions is not possible, so it would be good for Ubuntu users to be updated as soon as possible so they can play against Windows and OSX. ** Changed in: hedgewars (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: hedgewars (Ubuntu Lucid) Assignee: (unassigned) => Evan Broder (broder) ** Changed in: hedgewars (Ubuntu Maverick) Assignee: (unassigned) => Evan Broder (broder) ** Changed in: hedgewars (Ubuntu Natty) Assignee: (unassigned) => Evan Broder (broder) ** Changed in: hedgewars (Ubuntu Oneiric) Assignee: (unassigned) => Evan Broder (broder) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/852603 Title: hedgewars << 0.9.17 can not engage in network play with current release To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oneiric-backports/+bug/852603/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Please add ext2 to the list of modules in debian.master/d-i/modules/fs- core-modules as a matter of urgency. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: regression-release ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893395 Title: ext2 modular in precise but missing from fs-core-modules To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/893395/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 893396] [NEW] Contact list should autoresize vertically according with the number of contacts showed
Public bug reported: Contact list should autoresize vertically according with the number of contacts showed. That's it. Adium does this by default (IIRC), Pidgin has a unofficial plugin that lets you do that, it's very useful IMHO. The Contact List content is very dynamic, sometimes the window is too short and you have to scroll to see who's online, sometimes you only have one online contact and 9/10th of the window is simply white space. ** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/893396 Title: Contact list should autoresize vertically according with the number of contacts showed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/893396/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 892903] Re: encrypted LVM install fails with "unsafe swap space detected"
This bug was fixed in the package partman-crypto - 49ubuntu1 --- partman-crypto (49ubuntu1) precise; urgency=low * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes: - Skip loading partman-crypto-loop for now, as we don't support it in Ubuntu. - Disable partition erasing by default, as it's very slow and only of moderate value. - Warn that the passphrase cannot be recovered if lost. - Allow preseeding the first passphrase prompt and partman-crypto/weak_passphrase. - Add an "Activate existing encrypted volumes" option to the partman-crypto main menu. partman-crypto (49) unstable; urgency=low * Merge from Ubuntu: - Allow crypto kernel modules to be built-in. * The fix for #642115 was actually working around a 'dmsetup table' output format regression in libdevmapper 1.02.65 / lvm2 2.02.86, fixed in libdevmapper 1.02.66 / lvm2 2.02.87. For robustness, handle both old and new output formats (closes: #647540, LP: #892903).
