[Bug 362075] Re: session logout after suspend

2011-11-22 Thread Ryan Reich
I am attaching a portion of my kernel log from a recent desktop crash
during resume. I want to point out particularly the events at the
following times: [33221.164300] [33221.269629] [33222.874647],
reflecting segfaults in bamfdaemon, compiz, and gnome-settings, all of
them leading back to a location in libgdk-3.so.0.200.0. These are the
only errors that show up in the course of the resume (in the kernel log,
which is the only place I know where to look), so I assume they are
relevant. They do *not* show up in a normal resume (next attachment).

I am also attaching a comparison "okay" log. There is nothing
remarkable about it except that it does not mention bamfdaemon, compiz,
or gnome-settings (in particular, they don't segfault).

[Bug 856312] Re: Cant set resolution with two monitors

2011-11-22 Thread AmateurDev
Are you saying that you got the radeon driver to work? How so? My
graphics card is no longer supported by AMD, so I can't install the
proprietary driver, but I still get the virtual size limitation using
the radeon driver. I can set the dual monitors using xrandr, but that
messes up the desktop and causes window (dragging/tearing?).

[Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start

2011-11-22 Thread Rocko
@André Tzincoca: to downgrade, go to the link I posted above, clink on
the link on that page for the build for your release (oneiric amd64 or
i386), and download the deb file. Then use "sudo dpkg -i initramfs-
tools-bin_0.99ubuntu7_amd64.deb" to install it (assuming you got the
amd64 version) and "sudo update-initramfs -u -k all" to update the
initramfs system for all kernels.

My version of initramfs-tools has re-upgraded itself to the new version
(because update-manager doesn't honour Synaptic's "lock package
version") and when I install new kernels I don't get this problem
anymore. So it may just be that kernel 3.0.0-13 did something bad when
it installed and rebuilding the initramfs systems fixed whatever it was.
ie you might not need to go back to the previous version of initramfs-
tools to fix it.

[Bug 359810] Re: support filing bugs against source packages

2011-11-22 Thread Martin Pitt
I really don't want to support filing bugs against source packages in
apport. But the original request here was indeed not for "apport-bug
srcpkg", but for apport-collect, which is a legitimate bug indeed.
Retitling accordingly, to match the title of the just duplicated bug

[Bug 893885] [NEW] Not possible to disable "save password" in network manager

2011-11-22 Thread netdata
Public bug reported:

I liked the Maverick release in regards to the VPN setup. When no
password was filledin it asked for a password each time I try to login.
Handy because I need to enter a unique ID each time via a VASCO key.

Since Oneiric I need to clear the password each time I want to connect
to the VPN so I can enter the correct one. Although there is nowhere a
checkbox to be seen that sets save password (like in the previous
version) it does it anyhow. Is this a bug (or was the previous way to do
it a bug)?

Is there a setting I missed? It seems something in the network manager.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server

2011-11-22 Thread Bolesław Tokarski
Oh, jofa, man you are so in the dark. "Old fashioned technical
arguments" is what your Linux is built upon. On open standards, which
are being adhered to. If you want to have user experience to have higher
priority than old fashioned technical arguments, go to Microsoft. They
broke a great deal of standards just to have feature X, thus helping the
user experience.

Also, note that the problem here is not with Evolution not adhering to
standards, but Exchange violating standards.

[Bug 893884] [NEW] Insert Names Command not working in LibreOffice Calc

2011-11-22 Thread Roger Epps
Public bug reported:

Each time I use the Insert Names Command from the drop down window, the
program closes. This works Ok under Windows.

I follow the Inset Menu, select Names, select Define Names and then select a
name to be modified, modify with the cell selection button and then press
modify. the program crashes.
Alternatively, I delete the name, then add it and the program again crashes.

[Bug 880476] Re: after update to kernel 3.0.0-13 ubuntu 11.10 does not start

2011-11-22 Thread André Tzincoca
Hi I just validated the updates and 3.0.0-13 won't boot, -12 is fine.
How do I "downgrade" initramfs-tools to 0.99ubuntu7 ?

My system : Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz × 4, 7,8 GB
Ram,NVIDIA GeForce GT 130/PCI/SSE2 running ubuntu 11.10.

Also why is this bug "fixed" because it obviously doesn't work?

Thank you.

[Bug 893413] Re: machines halts for a short period of time at arbitrary intervals

2011-11-22 Thread rburns
Possibly I hadn't fully gotten out of whatever state the hibernation had
put the machine in. At some point it refused to boot. unplugged it, and
removed the battery, reinserted both, and it was able to boot up. It
then worked fine with the 3.2rc kernel. I then tested the 3.0.6 kernel
(which includes the wlagn driver) and it continued to work. suspend with
the 3.0.6 kernel didn't cause any problems. I didn't try hibernate
again.

[Bug 893882] [NEW] Rekonq crashes everytime I download or run a file

2011-11-22 Thread Toni Helenius
Public bug reported:

Now with Kubuntu 11.10 Rekonq overridded my settings replacing Konqueror
as my default browser. Rendering is better I give it that. But it
crashes a lot. But this one I can reproduce ALWAYS and it is quite
annoying.

When I select a file link from the Internet, no matter do I select OPEN
or SAVE Rekonq crashes. It finishes the job with file operation though
and after that it just crashes.

Any logs I can provide you with?

[Bug 893450] Re: KVM guest fails to autostart sometimes with virSecurityDACRestoreSecurityFileLabel error

2011-11-22 Thread Serge Hallyn
Actually based on your syslog excerpts, this sounds to me like you might
have bad storage. In particular:

Nov 23 01:21:24 web4 udevd[366]: worker [376] unexpectedly returned with status
0x0100
Nov 23 01:21:24 web4 udevd[366]: worker [376] failed while handling
'/devices/virtual/block/dm-8'

(and same for dm-1)

Can you describe your storage setup? Are you using for the lvm volumes?
multipath?

Also, to get us a bit more information, could you do

apport-collect 893450

[Bug 893880] [NEW] Shutdown logs out instead of powering off

2011-11-22 Thread wizzor
Public bug reported:

I'm really not sure about the package name, but no way to easily find
out (that I know of) which package is actually misbehaving.

What happens is:
When I try to shut down the system, it logs off instead. Clicking shut down on
the subsequently shown login screen shows terminal output quickly (too quickly
to make out) and ends up back in the login screen.

Possibly related:
When I try to log in with fingerprint authentication, the same happens. (FP
auth succeeds -> Log in button appears, when clicked ->terminal output -> log
in screen again) When I let the fingerprint auth time out, everything is just
peachy.

Platform is Lenovo X220, running Ubuntu 11.10, all updates run.
Disk is encrypted LVM.

I'll be happy to provide any log files, but will need instructions on
how to produce them.

[Bug 893876] [NEW] wrong display-resolution and no compiz-unity-plugin working since Kernel 3.0.0.13

2011-11-22 Thread fabio
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and since I updated to Kerel Version 3.0.0.13 I can't
get a higher resolution than 1280x1024 (native is 1920x1080) and the
unity-plugin in ccsm (compiz manager) doesn't work, so no effekts like
transperant panel or so.
Also does the mousepoiter disappear when moving.

My workaround is simply to start with the old Kernel-Version 3.0.0.12.

while, the screen sometimes freezes, and sometimes shows the files on my
desktop (but no other controls).

I use a HP Pavilion Laptop with a small hard drive. I use autofs to
mount additional directories, one per user, from a NAS box to which I
connect over my wireless network. Here is my autofs configuration:

$ tail -1 /etc/auto.master
/mnt/marauder/homes /etc/auto.home

$ cat /etc/auto.home
*   marauder:/volume1/homes/&

These mounted directories are not used as user home directories
directly, since I want my laptop to work without access to the NAS.
Instead, I have replaced the various file-storing standard directories
with symlinks into the mounted directory. So for the user 'spacejens', I
have:

$ ls -l | grep marauder
lrwxrwxrwx 1 spacejens spacejens   40 2011-10-22 17:16 Documents ->
/mnt/marauder/homes/spacejens/Documents/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 spacejens spacejens   35 2011-10-22 17:23 Music ->
/mnt/marauder/homes/spacejens/Music
...

I have successfully avoided the problems by ensuring that before I log
in to the graphical environment, I use Ctrl+Alt+ to get to the
console login prompt, log in there, and execute e.g. 'ls Documents' to
make sure that the autofs directories are properly mounted. After I have
done this, I have been able to log in to the graphical environment
without problems.

[Bug 881340] Re: master volume does not work with snd-hda-intel on HP Elite 8200

2011-11-22 Thread Beastyvoid
I tried Morten tricks but it did not work for me. With that I had sound
output only on the rear connector and not anymore on the front
connector, and the volume still did not work.

To see the particular version you're using you need this :

head /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 : the "codec" info gives you the
particular driver

then have a look for this driver in this file :
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/HD-Audio-Models.txt.gz: search for your
model (ALC662 for me).
There you can see the proper variant of the driver (for me the eeepc-p701, but
still not working)

[Bug 893867] [NEW] rendering hangs

2011-11-22 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

When rendering an AVCHD video in order to burn it to a normal DVD the
rendering process hangs after sometimes 44%, sometimes 60%. These
results with the same movie. I tried ulimit -S unlimited but to no
avail. My version is newer than the already similar reported bugs so I
file a new bug. When the process hangs the remaining time increases
instead of going down as expected. The process never finishes and no
output file is created.

[Bug 872207] Re: When Firefox is running in Unity, drop-down menus are not always shown

2011-11-22 Thread Domingos86
Actually, it happens to me very often when I switch from one workspace
to another using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Arrow. When I click, the
menu shows up at first but immediately disappears once I roll the mouse
over it.

Right now, to overcome it, I've been using Alt+Tab instead (which seems
to work even when the target window is at a different workspace). With
the workspace switcher from the unity launcher it seems to work fine as
well.

[Bug 893450] Re: KVM guest fails to autostart sometimes with virSecurityDACRestoreSecurityFileLabel error

2011-11-22 Thread Horacio
Thank you very much for the response! I was able to do some more test, and
something strange happened.
I made the changes to /etc/init/libvirt-bin.conf and added some sort of
"timeout":

ls -lh /dev/vg_default | logger -t libvirt-bin-start-script
for a_device in $LVM_DEVS_TO_CHECK ; do
echo "Device $a_device" | logger -t libvirt-bin-start-script
iter=0
while [ ! -e $a_device -a $iter -lt 5 ]; do
echo " + Not found: $a_device" | logger -t libvirt-bin-start-script
ls -lh /dev/vg_default | logger -t libvirt-bin-start-script
sleep 1s
iter=$(( $iter + 1))
done
done

One of the KVM guest didn't started. Searching in syslog, I found:

The output of "logger" show me that 4 logical volumes were missing, and after
waiting for 20 seconds, the scripts continued, started libvirt and one of the
guest didn't started up.
Those devices were missing on /dev/mapper/ an /dev/vg_default. But doing a
"lvs" worked OK and the missing devices where shown. So, the devices where
found and recognized by LVM, but the links are missing.

So, I've changed the script to wait for 120 seconds for each device and
rebooted. This time I got more time to see what's going on. Checking the
syslog I got the same errors of "udevtrigger" and "udevd". 4 devices
were missing again, so it took 8 minutes and then stop checking.

While this 8 minutes, the devices links didn't "appear". "lvs" list the
devices OK, but no link were on /dev. I know this happened because of
all the 'ls -lh /dev/vg_default' logged on syslog.

After the 8 minutes of waiting, the script continued running, the
libvirt started up and this time, all the guest started ok!!! I think
that the "libvirt-bin" was bloking some other process. When the
"libvirt-bin" finished (I think 'forked' and the upstart job finished),
the other processes could create the links just before the guest started
up!

I'm sorry to say that the workaround didn't work... Any further
information will be appreciated. If no better workaround exists, I'm
thinking in disabling the automatic start of libvirt, and maybe
configure some @reboot cron job to start manually, but I reaaaly dislike
this solution... But I need some way to ensure that ALL the guest start
up automatically!

Thanks again!

[Bug 893854] Re: cat /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online cycles through monitor display layouts

2011-11-22 Thread Brian O'Connor
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, and I have a hp dm3z laptop with an external
  22" monitor.

I have it set to extended desktop, with the external screen to the left
of the laptop. The external screen has a resolution of 1680x1050, and
the laptop has a resolution of 1366x800.

I noticed daily that it would reset my desktop to mirrored display, with
a resolution of 800x600. I tracked down the cause to be the mlocate
script within cron.daily (rant: really annoying), where the underlying
cause was on_ac_power, and specifically the command

  cat /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online

starts going through the cycle of different desktop layouts.

When in the layout of external to left of laptop screen, with each successive
call to 'cat /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online',
it goes to the following layouts, in this order:
  mirrored (800x600)
laptop screen on left side of extended desktop, external on right (both at
correct resolutions)
  laptop screen only (correct resolution)
  external monitor only (correct resolution)
external monitor on left, laptop screen on right (both at correct resolution)

I've also noticed that if I unplug my AC power while the external
monitor is plugged in, and unplug the external monitor (because I move
my laptop), it seems to go through at least one full cycle before it
finally settles on laptop only, but it takes a good few seconds (and
  it's very, very noticeable).

This happens when the external monitor is plugged into the HDMI port or
  the VGA port.

Additionally, this also happens if I run 'cat <
  /sys/class/power_supply/AC/online'

When on battery power, it outputs '0', when on AC power, it outputs '1'.

I've run Ubuntu 11.10 (but decided to downgrade for other reasons) and
  this problem still persists there.

Please let me know if there's any other information I can provide.

If it wasn't obvious, I don't expect my monitors to cycle through the
different possible output modes because of a daily cron script.
Instead, it does happen. It's really annoying. Now that I've found it,
I can disable the cron script, but it was really annoying to track down.

[Bug 872924] Re: Resuming a failed upload crashes with ValueError: I/O operation on closed file

2011-11-22 Thread Andre
Tested 2 big files (230 and 560 MB) with the new build
(2.0.0-0ubuntu2.2). Result: It works! Both files were uploaded very fast
without any interruptions.

Thank you for fixing this!

Don't know if this is related to the new version: I had stable upload
rates at 1-3 MB/s (MByte!). Even the conformation of the server that the
file was successfully uploaded came fast.

[Bug 763005] Re: Compiz's "Sync to Vblank" makes display stutter/slow with some drivers (like fglrx)

2011-11-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
@Bucic, To work around this bug you need:

In CompizConfig Settings Manager:
Sync to VBlank - OFF
Detect refresh rate - Is not relevant. But if you're interested then the
(future) fix for bug 880707 will bypass incorrectly detected refresh rates.

And I would recommend:

In Catalyst Control Center:
Tear-free - ON
