However, the Qt library gives a comma ',' as decimal point. This creates problems when a Qt program is trying to communicate with a non Qt program since the decimal point is not the same, numbers are not correctly recognized. After doing some searching, Qt (see http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/QtLocales) takes its locale information from cldr.unicode.org: http://unicode.org/cldr/trac/browser/tags/release-2-0-1/posix/en_ZA.UTF-8.src This page gives a comma as decimal separator. So does Wikipedia (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_mark - note that a footnote seems to indicate that this may be a recent official decision). Having 2 different definitions for the decimal point on the same system can only lead to problems. - http://www.gcis.gov.za/resource_centre/guidelines/styleguide/editorial_styleguide_2011.pdf is an official document which says to use the comma. [Bug 894268] [NEW] Nautilus doesn't indicate that files are being loaded
Public bug reported: PROBLEM Unlike when you click on a folder (and the mouse cursor changes to the "loading" symbol), double-clicking on a PDF file or image to open it does not provide any visual feedback. The user is left wondering if her computer "got the message" at all, and may double-click multiple times, until it finally loads. This problem also affects the following file types: 1. Document files opened by LibreOffice (although the LibreOffice splash screen indicates that the file is loading) 2. Text files opened in gedit 3. HTML files opened in the web browser Further testing is recommended. HOW TO REPRODUCE 1. Open a Nautilus window. 2. Double-click on a folder to open it. Note the visual feedback. 3. Double-click on a PDF document. 4. Double-click on a picture. 5. Repeat the process for the other file types indicated. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR Nautilus will not leave users hanging, and will indicate -- as it does for double-clicking on folders -- that it's loading the thing that you clicked on. [Bug 894190] Re: 'Could not write bytes broken pipe' occurs just before log in with Lubuntu 11.10
Is this the exact error message? I think there may be some words missing here; that's ok if you don't have the exact message, I have a pretty good idea of what the right message is anyway. Our bug bot has marked this as a bug against the plymouth package. The message is related to plymouth, but we have not in general heard reports of this problem with Ubuntu 11.10. We *have* heard of such things on Lubuntu in particular. Mine was: during build of mono on x86, libraries/executables are created by gnu linker, which contain executable stack; the sole source of it is mono/mini/mdb-debug-info32.s; does mono need this file to create executable stack in those libraries/executables ? Note, that I did try to add that note for non-executable in that file and mono built fine and it did compile a trivial program, I'm simply not sure, if I did broke anything that way. [Bug 151162]
The behaviour changed. Now when I drag and drop, on Ubuntu 11.10, i have a ".desktop" file created with a "link" to the mail object. The problem is that 1) clicking on the icon give the error Could not display "imap://romano%2Egiannetti%40...1.2&filename=13008%202011.pdf". 2) ...and even if I manage to open it (I can, with some opening and cut and paste and based on the fact that the application understand the URI) what happens if I go offline? [Bug 677815]
I ran into a related issue and logged bug 701631. I'd appreciate your feedback on the following: i. Has the fix from comment 16 been included in Firefox 8? ii. Is the following statement correct based on fix referred to in comment 16? Even if there's a remote version of the lang pack that is compatible with the upgraded app (say 7.0 upgraded to 8.0), then it will NOT be downloaded, and steps 1., 2., 3. from comment 16 will still be performed. iii. (In reply to Mark Finkle (:mfinkle) from comment #10) > Bug 678111 outlines some work RelEng is doing to keep langpacks separated by > buildid.Fennec will check for langpacks compatible with the new app buildid. > If it finds some, they are downloaded with the app update. If we don't find > any, we uninstall those langpacks. Is buildid idea something that's happening or not? From the install.rdf viewpoint i'm only aware of minVersion and maxVersion. Will they be sufficient in the foreseeable future? Just curious how this buildid idea could affect a lang pack like the following, for instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/QIRIMTATARCA-til-destesi/ P.S. If the answer to question ii. above is yes, i think it's really not user-friendly. In the best case scenario, the user'd have to get another addon update prompt some time later and re-start. I hope the answer is no, cause non-lang-pack addons are updated during an app upgrade, and it should work the same for langpacks IMHO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/677815 Title: Firefox crashes with XML Parsing Error To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/677815/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Steve: I apologize but from what my users have experienced, and they are able to do more extensive testing than I can, it appears this fix did not cause a regression with inline PDF's. [Bug 95507]
It should be super fast. One issue is that the GMail window contains an IFRAME with all the actual content. That IFRAME's viewport scrollframe is not always active, we only activate it on a timer. So when you scroll, it's flipping between active and inactive a lot, which forces repainting of the entire window a lot. So there's a few things we could do: 1) Increase the scroll activity timeout so we don't flip between active and inactive while scrolling. In selected cases we could make the timeout infinite. 2) Item 1 means we'll be displaying non-subpixel-AA text for longer, so we should fix that for as many cases as possible (including GMail) by detecting when a transparent ThebesLayer has a solid color behind it, and making the ThebesLayer opaque with that background color. That will also speed up drawing and compositing. [Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server
Again, as you noted - there are clients doing that, so this is not a technical limitation of the IMAP protocol. I admit I have not studied the RFC for IMAP, perhaps it says that the only accepted way to delete mail is to mark them as deleted instead of moving it to the Trash folder. Be it this way or the other - please do not think of "technical arguments" as something old-fashioned or something that stands in the way of progress. What we need are well-designed and well-defined standards that would boost the progress. Now imagine how would modern email access look like if there was no IMAP nor POP and all the email providers created their own "user-friendly" protocol for doing that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/13983 Title: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/13983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
