  = Discussion =

  == Packaging ==
  5.1 in Universe
   - provides safe upgrade path
  5.5 in Main

  == Ideas ==
  - mysql-server depends on mysql_alternative_1 OR mysql_alternative_2 OR ...
(requires alternatives to be in Main)
  - unique source package for all alternatives
  - parallel instalation of alternatives

  == ACTIONS ==
Find a way to package and MariaDB!

  - MySQL 5.5 into Debian and Oneiric Soon
  - Change mysql-server to a virtual package which depends on
mysql-server-5.5 | percona-server-5.5 | mariadb-server-5.5 ?
  - Drizzle is probably enoug of a fork that it cannot be included in the
'mysql-server' depends
  - libmysqlclient should come from upstream
  - What about plugins like XtraBackup and Handlersocket?

  = Comments =

  * Dont forget to do rebuilds for the newer libmysqlclient16 to
  libmysqlclient17.

[Bug 896512] [NEW] Sysinfo reports incorrect Gnome version on Ubuntu 11.10

2011-11-26 Thread Chris McIntosh
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 11.10, gnome-system-monitor reports the following:
  Ubuntu
Release 11.10 (Oneiric)
Kernel Linux 3.0.0-13-generic
Gnome 3.2.1

and other information.

When running Sysinfo on the same machine (in the same session), it reports:
  GNOME: 2.32.1 (Ubuntu 2011-04-14)
  Kernel: 3.0.0-13-generic (#22-Ubuntu SMP...)

Clearly the Gnome version is incorrectly reported. I am, indeed, using
Gnome 3.

lsb_release -rd reports:
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10

Using Sysinfo package (0.7-6)

Hope this helps to improve an otherwise nice tool.

[Bug 891282] Re: Apps Available For Download don't obey icon theme

2011-11-26 Thread Satchit Bhogle
I believe it should, else there will be a dichotomy between what the
user sees before and what he or she sees after installation. I don't
think it should be too difficult, considering that the USC obeys it.

This will, however, be moot if Apps Available for Download is removed in
Precise.

[Bug 888872] Re: Unity 3D desktop crashes in Oneiric using ATI Mobility Radeon X1600

2011-11-26 Thread Phil. V
It's strange that this problem only manifests itself in a Unity 3d
session, yes. However this fits the description of an X problem as
described in the Wiki quite well, so I still think we should keep a
report against xorg open. When the Unity maintainers get around to
looking at this report they can make a final decision regarding what is
at fault.

[Bug 886521] Re: CONFIG_XEN_PLATFORM_PCI should be y when building 3.1 kernel

2011-11-26 Thread Alex Bligh
Boris, are you suggesting the for pre-3.2 kernels, the fix is to
backport the 3.2 fix (i.e commit
5fbdc10395cd500d6ff844825a918c4e6f38de37, remove XEN_PLATFORM_PCI config
option)? Whilst that would work, surely a less intrusive result would be
achieved by configuring CONFIG_XEN_PLATFORM_PCI=y
CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_FRONTEND=y, CONFIG_XEN_NETDEV_FRONTEND=y on all
kernels where XEN_PVHVM=y?

From memory, I think on 3.1 Oneiric, CONFIG_XEN_BLKDEV_FRONTEND=y,
CONFIG_XEN_NETDEV_FRONTEND=y are already fixed but
CONFIG_XEN_PLATFORM_PCI=y is not. On Lucid, Maverick, Natty, from memory
all 3 need fixing.

Forwarding this bug from Ubuntu reporter Chris Coulson:

[Problem]
Output probing is traced to causing a multi-second delay during boot.

Some experimentation by the reporter and others seeing same/similar
issues show that by forcing off disconnected outputs, the boot speed is
significantly improved.

[Original Report]
I've been looking at our session startup time this week, and I've got one of
the big delays right down already (bug 854101). However, the next biggest
offender is Xorg (when starting a 2d session) - there appears to be a ~5s delay
between Xorg starting and the greeter loading.

You can see this in the bootchart attached.

Looking at the timestamps in my Xorg.0.log shows a pretty big delay just
here:

[ 15.583] (II) intel(0): Initializing HW Cursor
[ 18.030] (II) intel(0): RandR 1.2 enabled, ignore the following RandR disabled
message.

18 seconds matches up perfectly on the bootchart with the lightdm
greeter starting.

[Bug 896528] [NEW] Incorrect instructions in documentation

2011-11-26 Thread Andrej Znidarsic
Public bug reported:

I found a couple of instances where the user guide is giving wrong
instructions:

The guide says:

Click the icon at the far top right of the screen and select System Settings.
In the Personal section, select Startup Applications.
Uncheck the GNOME Login Sound option.

But in fact when one goes to System Settings there is no Startup
Application entry. Instead it's located in the menu, which appears when
user clicks on the top right icon.

The guide says:

Disable the login sound for all users

Click the icon at the far top right of the screen and select System Settings.
In the System section, select Login Screen.
Click Unlock and enter your password into the popup authentication window.
Uncheck the Play login sound option.

But there is no Login screen option in the section System. I am not sure
where to find this option.

2011-11-26 Thread Michael Bienia
This only happens inside my precise chroot (which got upgraded from one
development release to the next one). Updating base-files on my precise
host worked fine.

[Bug 875538] Re: [Firefox 3.6.23] Impossible to open firefox because firefox-bin process is still running

2011-11-26 Thread Tom Janes
While this is not a fix, it is a workaround for those who can't afford
to have their machine down for any length of time. Simply dump the
recent Flash upgrade, and go back one step and the problem is
eradicated. I did this by loading SuperOS, Version Maverick 10.10 which
has the older Flash package. I have disabled all Ubuntu updates, and
the problem is completely eliminated and there is no loss of
functionality using the older Flash system.

This system is a desktop one with a eDP-LVDS converter (CH7511B) for
the all-in-one panel and it only works with VESA. As soon as KMS kicks
in it goes black and doesn't come back. External monitors still work
fine, its just the internal panel that is black. Ubuntu maverick and
natty were tested, as well as a 2.6.39.1 kernel. the 2.6.39.1 kernel
actually hung with an external monitor, with additional messages like
these at the end

PCH HDCP audio interrupt

Followed by a two additional DRM messages:

7 [ 245.874118] [drm:i915_hotplug_work_func], running encoder hotplug

Typically we see FDI_RX_IIR 0x700 for train 1, with circumstantial

[Bug 896464] Re: Ubuntu 11.10 a step back in useability

2011-11-26 Thread Phil. V
Thank you for your bug report. Since what you submitted is not really a
bug, or a problem, but rather an idea to improve Ubuntu, you are invited
to post your idea in Ubuntu Brainstorm at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/
where it can be discussed, voted by the community and reviewed by
developers.

Also, you are able to choose the default interface for Ubuntu. If you do
not like Unity, you can use Xubuntu and XFCE, Lubuntu and LXDE, Kubuntu
and KDE, or Gnome 3.2 by installing the gnome-shell package from the
software center.

[Bug 811927] Re: support multiarch: same

2011-11-26 Thread gregory
Bad luck, at least I could use UDD for others package now.

For whatever the reason, post* files are not included by default. So I
keep them with libcg package.

There should be a build-depends on dpkg-dev (= 1.16)
Debhelper 8.1.3 depends on dpkg-dev (= 1.16) so I'm not sure it is needed
actually.

Note I did not update the package version, you will do a better jobs
than me. By the way a 2 time approach could be easier to handle.

** Patch added: support multi arch same for nvidia cg

alternatives. Nowadays update-alternatives is no longer in Perl but in C
so I'm closing this bug.

[Bug 397970] Re: backend dpkg-deb pendant « ./boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-13-generic »

2011-11-26 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. If this does resolve your bug please set its status to
Invalid. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 885708] Re: Fallo al descargar los archivos de paquetes

2011-11-26 Thread Alessandro Menti
Sorry for the delay - I have not received the notification that a new
message was left here.

@devta: Your sources.list file looks good. You said you're connected via Wifi
only; that seems strange, since Wifi connections should be detected by
NetworkManager (thus, the Internet connection status reported by that component
should be truthful). Could you please answer these questions, so that we're
able to determine where the bug is in a more precise way?
1) Does the bug happen every time or at random (perhaps in an area with low
signal, only when the installation takes a long time to download the
packages...)?
2) Try connecting to a different Wifi network, if possible. Does the bug happen
even in that situation?
3) Try to change your sources.list file: replace all occurrences of
http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/; with http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/;. This will
make apt-get use another mirror, just to make sure that no mirror problem is
causing this situation. Then, run sudo apt-get update and try installing some
packages.
4) Finally, if the problem still persists, could you please:
-tell me if, when the error occurs, you are able to navigate to
http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/; and http://es.archive.ubuntu.com/; with your
Web browser, and
-open https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingNetworkManager and gather the
information described there, attaching it to this bug report?

Thanks for your input - if you have any problems just reply here, I'll
be glad to help you.

[Bug 831768] Re: aptitude cannot handle conflicts with multiarch enabled

2011-11-26 Thread Rocko
Another example of why you might want 32-bit libraries is that I want to
build wine with GL support, but when I try to install the libglu1-mesa-
dev:i386 library (from xorg-edgers), apt-get wants to remove over 20
amd64 packages, and I'm not sure how badly it might break my system to
go ahead.

[Bug 430821] Re: default browser setting has no effect

2011-11-26 Thread Raphaël Hertzog
The problem is not in dpkg. The association between links and
applications has changed several times in GNOME. There's no point to
keep this old report open. Use your GNOME settings to pick the default
browser. Those alternatives are almost useless.
