The gnome-terminal issue looks weird. But good to know that you've fixed
the zeitgeist issue.

Please file a new bug with zeitgeist on the gnome-terminal mismatch.

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.

2011-12-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
No need for another bug, because the code you're using isn't released
yet. I am still working on improving it even today. And comments like
yours are important feedback that I'm considering...

P.S. Maybe a good workaround is to enable "Force full screen redraws
(buffer swap) on repaint" while disabling "Sync To VBlank". That
*should* revert to old-style timing while also eliminating tearing.

[Bug 902420] [NEW] AR922X Wireless flaky since upgrade to Precise

2011-12-09 Thread Evan Huus
Public bug reported:

Ever since the upgrade to precise my wireless card has delivered wildly
inconsistent speeds. It can fluctuate quite quickly between full normal
speed and practically nothing. There is no interference that I'm aware
of, and it doesn't happen in any other OSes that I'm aware of (Oneiric
or Windows).

Interesting to note is that Network Manager is aware of the fluctuation:
In the "Connection Information" panel the "Speed" field is 54 Mb/s
normally, but fluctuates to 11 Mb/s or so in time with the actual data
rate.

relevant lspci output for the card:

That's the sync request. And to clearly correct the record, please
don't sync from Debian... Novacut really needs the couchdb-bin package
as we don't want to force our users to be running a system-wide CouchDB
for no reason.

[Bug 902417] Re: Please sync CouchDB 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing

2011-12-09 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Okay, my bad... I didn't realize that Debian didn't have the couchdb
/couchdb-bin split so that you can install CouchDB without having
system-wide CouchDB start at boot.

As my UserCouch library is quite useful for spinning up throw-away
CouchDB instances for unit testing, it would actually be quite nice if
Debian followed Ubuntu's lead here and did the same split.

[Bug 900496] Re: dovecot-core installation fails because "start" is used from PATH

2011-12-09 Thread teamnoir
I would argue that it is not appropriate to add random things with
common names like a link to "start". I'm sure my personal start program
predates this link.

I -am- using sudo. Roots path is not sanitized. Sudo is the primary
method of achieving root on Ubuntu since root doesnt ordinarily have a
password.

I -am- careful about my path, that's why I'm filing this bug about this
particular piece of path pollution. You can't just randomly open up
holes in my environment like this. Dovecot breaks, as shown, and you
open up a security hole.

The fix here is trivial. Why do you need to break Dovecot and punch a
hole in my security? What's the benefit in doing so?

[Bug 817656] Re: [FFE] Please merge couchdb 1.1.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-12-09 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Perhaps this bug should be closed? As there probably wont be as many
Ubuntu specific changes going forward, I think a sync from Debian is
more appropriate than a merge. Also up for debate is whether CouchDB
should move from main to universe. Either way, the sooner this could
happen the better. Also, Novacut says "pretty please" :P

I filled a sync-request bug here -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/couchdb/+bug/817656

And I personally think this bug here should be closed as Wont Fix.

[Bug 877248] Re: upgraded to 11.1, dash menu does not appear at all

2011-12-09 Thread Bilal Akhtar
Which GPU are you using?

Compiz seems to be at fault here, but there's little or no info to
diagnose the issue. Can you run this command in a terminal so that debug
information gets attached:

apport-collect 877248

That would help us debug the issue. Thanks!

[Bug 902417] [NEW] Please sync CouchDB 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing

2011-12-09 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
Public bug reported:

Source package: couchdb
Version to sync: 1.1.1-1
Sync from: Debian testing - http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/couchdb

As CouchDB will likely not be getting any Ubuntu-specific attention
going forward, it's probably a bad idea to continue to carry Ubuntu-
specific changes, so I propose a sync from Debian testing.

Being a bugfix point release, 1.1.1 is a good fit for the LTS, and the
sooner the sync can happen the better so it can start to get wider
testing on Ubuntu. Having this happen soon would certainly be a help to
Novacut, for what it's worth.

you used? dvd?, stick drive?

[Bug 842566] Re: Libreoffice and unity integration broken.

2011-12-09 Thread Treviño
snowguy,

You can test this fix by compiling it yourself my branch, just do:

  bzr branch lp:~3v1n0/ubuntu/oneiric/bamf/libreoffice-fixes
bamf-libreoffice-fixes
  cd bamf-libreoffice-fixes
  sudo apt-get build-dep bamf
  ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
  cd src
make && sudo cp bamfdaemon /usr/lib/bamf/bamfdaemon

Then restart bamfdaemon (and unity) to check that it's working:
  killall bamfdaemon

To restore the default version, just use:
  sudo apt-get --reinstall install bamfdaemon

I did have it installed. I removed it and Update check now seems to
proceed normally without warning or errors and updates its status to -
just updated (which it wasn't doing).
So maybe it is really fixed now (I did remember to re-boot this time).

Thanks very much.

[Bug 902043] Re: emacs -nw freezes with 100% CPU with glib 2.31

2011-12-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Anders, thanks for fixing this bug. Seems the PPAs are backed up,
your package still hasn't built. However, I verified it builds on i386
in pbuilder.

I upgraded to glib 2.31 but was unable to reproduce the bug. However
looking at the patch the error looks pretty obvious and the patch looks
sane, so I've gone ahead and uploaded it.

[Bug 774059] Re: Scale by Window group not working

2011-12-09 Thread selkovjr
I have a variation of this problem; not sure if it is related to this
discussion or not. It has worked for me without any tricks, for a long
time (since 11.10 was released), but it only allows me to group the
windows that belong to a single process. I typically have a couple dozen
xterm windows running, so finding the one I need among those and several
more dozens of browser and editor windows is a major PITA. It would be
less so if I could make compiz group them based on the name of the
executable, rather than process ID.

Re-subscribe sponsors when the patches are ready to go.

Reason I ask is because in order to SRU this for natty/oneiric, policy
is it has to be fixed in the development version first and verified
good.

[Bug 531190] Re: upower (devkit-power) reporting bad data when AC cable is unplugged

2011-12-09 Thread Chris Morgan
Michael:

- I've been seeing the phantom battery since, I believe, at least Ubuntu 10.10
(InstallationMedia 9.10).
- I've been experiencing this problem in Ubuntu 11.10; I think I did in 11.04
but can't remember. Earlier information is useless as I replaced the battery
some time during having 11.04, the earlier battery I had was faulty and
reported itself as critically low whenever unplugged (in spite of really having
half an hour's life in it).
- The use_time_for_policy workaround seemed to improve the situation for me at
first, but it still does it generally in the unplug-then-wake-up situation. I'm
actually not sure now whether it improved anything, whether my usage pattern
just changed.
- I'm not going to test your patch (well, if you put it in a PPA I'd test it,
but I'm too slack to try it out myself).

If there's any more information you'd like from me, I'm happy to try to
provide it.

+
Original Reporter Comments: I note that jre was upgraded recently and that
was when the problem began. My conclusion is that there is a problem with the
jre installed recently:
  ii openjdk-6-jre
6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu1~10.04.1
  ii openjdk-6-jre-headless
6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu1~10.04.1
  ii openjdk-6-jre-lib
6b20-1.9.2-0ubuntu1~10.04.1

- WORKAROUND: I fixed the problem by going to java.com and installing jre-
- 6u22-linux-i586.bin in /opt. I then chose that jre in openoffice
- options and the tables work fine with it.
-
Upstream bug link for sun-java6-jre and openjdk-6-jre (as openjdk bugzilla
not fully operational yet):
  http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7024514
+
+ WORKAROUND: Go to
+ http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javasebusiness/downloads/java-
+ archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u22-oth-JPR and download jre-
+ 6u22-linux-i586.bin, then via the Terminal:
+
+ sudo mv jre-6u22-linux-i586.bin /opt && cd /opt && sudo sh jre-
+ 6u22-linux-i586.bin
+
+ open the desired Base file -> Tools -> Options -> Java -> click 1.6.0_22
+ radio button -> close all LO applications running -> re-open Base file
+ and it works fine.

[Bug 534643] Re: nsd3 fails to install on lucid

2011-12-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment "nsd3-lp534643.debdiff" of this bug report has been
identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-
sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can
review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in
fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

[Bug 806079] Re: Installer crashed

2011-12-09 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD).
You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by
following the instructions at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry
your installation with new media and if that still fails I'd recommend
testing your CD drive with other media. In the event that is is not in
fact an error with your installation media or hardware please set the
bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!
