[Bug 903475] Re: Failed to upgrade from Oneiric to Precise: E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'openoffice.org-writer'
Some note keeping: - installed openoffice.org and openoffice.org-writer in a clean and up to date oneiric VM - apt-get dist-upgrade --simulate works fine (which should pick up pre-dependency loops, a common cause for this error message) - I tried to inject apt::get::simulate into do-release-upgrade (both in apt.conf.d and inserting it into the code), but that gets ignored - sudo apt-get dist-upgrade works all the way through (reboot OK) - do-release-upgrade -d works all the way through So it seems I don't have enough packages installed yet to reproduce this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/903475 Title: Failed to upgrade from Oneiric to Precise: E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'openoffice.org-writer' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/903475/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 818177] Re: boot failures because 'udevadm exit' times out while udevd waits for an already-dead thread
I run into the timeout since 2 days. Before that my oneiric experience was quite good. After reading this comments it seems I should be happy that there is a timeout after 61s, but whats causing udev to timeout? Its very annoying to sit and wait for the system - especially when it does boot a lot faster the day before... [Bug 882479] Re: [Inspiron N4050, Vostro 1450, Vostro V131] Compiz works unnormally after external VGA connected.
I'm not sure if this is same as bug 838128. Before I started to reproduce this bug, I removed ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, then I reproduced the bug, then tried to open ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log, but the files were not even created. So I looked at the /var/log/syslog, what I saw clearly is that every time I unplug/plug the external monitor cable, I can see the message: x kernel: [] [drm:pch_irq_handler] *ERROR* PCH poison interrupt However I see the same error message as bug 838128 in the old .xsession- errors I saved. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882479 Title: [Inspiron N4050, Vostro 1450, Vostro V131] Compiz works unnormally after external VGA connected. Can you please report the xscanimage crash with apport, so that we get a proper backtrace? This will create a new report, so I'm closing this one. [Bug 873548] Re: Brother MFC 7440N printer is detected but will not print
I tried again after restarting the printer but there was no luck. It seems the drivers for the 7450 are not meant for the 7440N at all. I did some more searching and have been able to get the printer working. It is using 7440N drivers and a cupswrapper. Below is how to set it up. --- Instructions taken from these sources: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606673 http://63.231.93.8/drupal/?q=node/6 http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/index.html To setup the Brother MFC-7440N printer/scanner on Ubuntu 64bit 11.10 using a USB connection: 1) Download the LPR Driver (deb) and cupswrapper driver (deb) from the brother web site: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_prn.html#MFC-7440N 2) Create this folder if it does not alread exist [code] sudo mkdir /usr/share/cups/model [/code] 3) Install the downloaded LPR Driver [code] sudo dpkg -i --force-all brmfc7440nlpr-2.0.2-1.i386.deb [/code] The '--force-all' switch is required as this package is designed for x86 architecture and we are using x64. The --force-architecture switch could be used instead of --force-all. 4) Install the downloaded Cupswrapper Driver [code] sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture cupswrapperMFC7440N-2.0.2-1.i386.deb [/code] Again this is an x86 package and we are using x64 At this point a test print will work however in my case the borders were not correct, the next step selects the PPD file which will correct this. 5) Select the PPD file for the printer System - Printers - MFC7440N - Properties Make and Model: - Change Provide PPD File Browse to /usr/share/cups/model and select the file MFC7440N.PPD A test print with borders worked correctly after selecting this file --- If I do a search in the Ubuntu Software Centre for 'mfc' I see a bunch of brother cupswrapper drivers and ppd files. (None of them are for the 7440N). Is there a way we can create a package out of the information we have here and publish it so that it is easy to install the 7440N printer by installing a package from the Ubuntu Software Centre? Most average and non technical users are not going to put in the research or effort required to make this printer work in Ubuntu. They will simply assume it doesn't work. I would like to make it easy for them if I can. How do we get this incorporated into the CUPS drivers updates or published in the Ubuntu Software Centre? Is the PPD file that gets created usable as a stand alone file on a clean install without going through the above? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/873548 Title: Brother MFC 7440N printer is detected but will not print To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/873548/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug was fixed in the package cups - 1.5.0-8ubuntu6 --- cups (1.5.0-8ubuntu6) oneiric-proposed; urgency=low * debian/patches/ipp-patch-r8950+.patch: Revert the IPP backend to the state of CUPS 1.4.x, as the 1.5.x versiuon has major regressions (LP: #877958, LP: #879625, LP: #881843, LP: #883585, Closes: #638521, CUPS STR #3966, CUPS STR #3967). This made gnome-session-daemon crash (LP: #893676, CUPS STR #3984). * debian/local/filters/cpdftocps: The cpdftocps filter (used for PostScript printers and for drivers with PPDs which are not PDF-aware) did not recognize the duplex setting correctly, making duplex not working on many common printers (LP: #897723). * debian/local/filters/cpdftocps: Cleaned up the header comments. -- Till KamppeterTue, 29 Nov 2011 21:49:41 +0100 ** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu Oneiric) Status: Fix Committed => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/897723 Title: Setting duplex in the print dialog has no effect for some print drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/897723/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just wanted to note that this segfault happens with this patch in place: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdvdread/+bug/852345 And without it (i.e. in Lucid), I don't get the segfault - but of course Thor doesn't play there. @Brian: Yes, I think that makes sense. [Bug 901381] Re: excepthook in gtk_ui.py should write a crash report instead of calling ubuntu-bug
Indeed this call happens in def excepthook(self, exctype, excvalue, exctb): which has the exact same signature as apport_excepthook() (well, unsurprisingly, as both are standard Python exception handlers). Okay. after downloading the files I burnt them to a cd and I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 11.10 AMD64 by using the Install option using "nomodeset" under options as it gets a black screen otherwise. After installing I booted into recovery and mounted the file system as read/write and mounted the cd. I then copied them to my /home/cdrom as a mount point for my cd drive (/dev/sr0) and cooties them and installed them by executing "dpkg -i *.deb" and after that rebooted into the new kernel (3.0.0.0-13) and SUCCESSFULLY booted into Unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/825777 Title: Display will not turn on in Oneiric with Llano APUs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/825777/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
