[Bug 886449] Re: [USB-Audio - USB Camera-B4.04.27.1, recording] Pulseaudio fails to detect card

2011-12-26 Thread Johnny
Tried these things. Neither worked:

A.) Tried replacing the whole /usr/share/alsa/cards directory with the
Ubuntu 10.10 /usr/share/alsa/cards directory. No change.

B.) Tried replacing the ENTIRE /usr/share/alsa directory with the Fedora
16 /usr/share/alsa directory. No change.

Are you guys certain that Alsa is the issue here?

Yes, my fix or any fix for this bug should reduce GPU power consumption.
It may be very significant with some drivers/hardware, but is hard to
prove without careful testing. Especially since GPU power hogs don't

[Bug 825542] Re: Symbol generation/lookup broken

2011-12-26 Thread SSDwellah
Here is the key to the issue.

/home/user1/source/2.8-dev/src/lib/openssl/lib/libssl.so: could not read
symbols: Invalid operation

I was linking to the shared object as specified on the DSO linking page.
The problem was that when the linker ran I was getting "Invalid
operation". The .so was being built with broken symbols somehow. This
was fixed with some subsequent binutils and did not occur with the the
version that shipped with Ubuntu 11.10 final. I think this can be closed
now.

[Bug 908951] [NEW] File - Wizards - Letter fails silently

2011-12-26 Thread David Richfield
Public bug reported:

In LibreOffice Writer, the menu selection "File - Wizards - [x]" fails
silently where x is "Letter", "Fax", "Agenda" or "Web page". The Euro
conversion, Presentation and Document Converter Wizards all work. If
this is due to a required package not being present, there should be
some kind of error message.

[Bug 885793] Re: .mkv & .flv videos don't play in Totem Ubuntu 11.10

2011-12-26 Thread Helmut
I can play .mkv videos (Totem Movie Player 3.0.1 Movie Player using
GStreamer 0.10.35), but cannot play SOME .flv files with the symptoms as
explained above. Some .flv videos I can play, however.

When I right click in Nautilus to see the properties of these not-
playing files I get a popup window saying "Creating Properties window.
You can stop this operation by clicking cancel." -- and that is all I
get. From the files that do play, I do get a properties window.

Looking at the not-playing files with `ls -l` or `stat` does not reveal
anything interesting.

I can play all these files with VLC player though.

[Bug 904275] Re: Lotus Notes crashes the app menu

2011-12-26 Thread WenLong FENG
Hi Tom,
Thanks for your quick response, our tester will confirm it.
And IBM may like to get your solution for the root cause when it is ready, as
you know utilizing native behavior is end-user's basic requirement and a
black-list solution may not make them happy :-)

Right, that's the thought I had; will add it to a pending language-
selector MP. Just wanted to ask first, for the case there was more into
it.

Hmm.. I'm still confused, because in that case it shouldn't be possible
to install an Oneiric version of ibus (with the im-switch depend),
should it? Anyway, I added a lubuntu package to this bug report, to call
the lubuntu people's attention to the issue.

[Bug 903098] Re: Please merge (sort of) couchdb 1.1.1-1 from Debian testing

2011-12-26 Thread Jason Gerard DeRose
After quite a lot of testing, I feel that it's reasonable to push both
my proposed couchdb 1.1.1 package and a fixed desktopcouch package out
to the Novacut Stable PPA, for both Precise and Oneiric. This should
get these proposed changes quite a lot of testing and hopefully help
move this forward.

In preparation for this, I've first build all these packages in the
Novacut Pre-Stable PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~novacut/+archive/pre-stable

I'd love help testing the upgrade and that desktopcouch indeed works
fine after the upgrade. All these packages will be pushed into to the
Novacut Stable PPA this Thursday, December 29th.

Also, I revised my fix for desktopcouch:

https://code.launchpad.net/~jderose/desktopcouch/uri_file-
fix/+merge/85431

I sort of forgot that desktopcouch doesn't write a new ~/.config
/desktop-couch/desktop-couchdb.ini at each launch, so fixing that config
file doesn't work when one already exists.

The correct solution was to deliver the config change in:

/etc/xdg/desktop-couch/default.ini

[Bug 905701] Re: Applications display on blank white screen when maximized in Unity

2011-12-26 Thread Ed Gallant
This bug appears to have been "fixed" by the installation of nvidia
290.10 driver, in my case by adding ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates to 11.10
sources. Note that this unsupported PPA may need to be reloaded in
Precise if Precise doesn't include 290.10 (or greater) as nvidia-
current.

2011-12-26 Thread Mic Morris

[Bug 908941] [NEW] gnome-sushi will not engage

2011-12-26 Thread teledyn
Public bug reported:

I have installed and reinstalled gnome-sushi several times but it still
will not connect with nautilus -- on other computers it will preview my
media files without problems as soon as I press the space bar, but on
this laptop there is no reaction at all from the spacebar press on an
mp3 (it shows the mp3 music icon, so I'm sure the system would know
what to do with the mime type, and the open menu correctly assigns to
mpg321)

is there some trick to getting gnome-sushi connected?

[Bug 908940] [NEW] MacBook brightness keys does not work correctly

2011-12-26 Thread Pierre Rudloff
Public bug reported:

When I use the brightness keys on my MacBook, the steps are not in the correct
order.
It gives something like: 100% > 0% > 75% > 50% > 75% > 50% > 25% > 50% > 25% >
50% > 0%.
Note that this used to work fine with Gnome.

[Bug 908937] [NEW] nividia / external monitor / macbook pro

2011-12-26 Thread tr
Public bug reported:

I have a macbook pro (5.5 I think) and since 10.04 it has been
impossible to set external video modes at a higher resolution than
640*480 which is rather annoying and makes using the laptop in linux for
presentations a big problem.

Anyway I have tried all the usual stuff - trying to force the resolution
in xorg.conf, tryng nvidia-settings and trying the nvidia xorg.conf
option"useEDID" "FALSE" but nowt seems to work.

I am convinced this did used to work (but I can't remember how) - I
previously had a separate problem with the screen turning off when
mplayer started in magicpoint that could not have occurred at such a
limited resolution [I never did get to the bottom of this]. IIRC the
useedid false option in xorg.conf used to allow you to set any
resolution but no longer.

This seems to be a widespread problem for this hardware (which works
fine in macosx)

I wouldn't know if this is X, nvidia, nvidia-settings or something else
that is at fault.

[Bug 903626] Re: kernel 3.00.14.16 update breaks built in camera on macbook pro

2011-12-26 Thread tr
This can be closed - I found a 3rd party driver left over from a
previous install that was screwing up /dev/video0. There must have been
a boot time race condition because sometimes this got /dev/video0 and
sometimes not. It was just more likely to get there first on 3.00.14
than previous versions. Now removed the cameras seems to be functioning
fine.

[Bug 803943] Re: compiz consuming a lot of cpu

2011-12-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Ruben, if ppa:vanvugt/unity fixed your CPU issues then you probably had
bug 861061 which could also cause high CPU.

If it was ppa:vanvugt/compiz that fixed most of your CPU issues then I
am unsure which change is helping you. But I would like to know... If
the CPU was high only when moving windows then that is bug 764330 which
is fixed in ppa:vanvugt/compiz. Otherwise I'm not sure which change
reduced your CPU usage.

Certainly the change in GPU temp strongly suggests it is the fix for bug
861061 helping you the most.
