[Bug 916489] [NEW] grub-ipxe says B: command not found
Public bug reported: First of all thanks a lot for the ipxe package, it's most helpful. :) I just tried grub-ipxe 1.0.0+git-2.149b50-1ubuntu4 in kubuntu precise, and it installed fine. But after selecting it in grub, and after the usual iPXE headers, I got: B: command not found At that point control was given back to the BIOS, and the next boot device was chosen. I suppose a broken iPXE script was linked in? Also, could you please pull the latest iPXE from trunk, as it's more stable, and it supports custom scripts as initrds? ** Affects: ipxe (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ipxe in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916489 Title: grub-ipxe says B: command not found To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ipxe/+bug/916489/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 916494] [NEW] Please put ipxe.krn to the desktop CD
Public bug reported: Please put ipxe.lkrn as a boot option in the isolinux menu of the live CDs, so that they can be used to netboot computers, either for network- based installation, or as LTSP clients, etc. The embedded iPXE script would do this: 1) autoboot (that's an iPXE command) 2) on failure, if no boot server exists on the local network, use http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/netboot/ to download the kernel via http and to start a network installation without downloading or burning mini.iso. It will only add a few Kb on the .iso, and it will make possible e.g. to reuse the 12.04 CDs to netboot and install 14.04. I can write the iPXE boot script if there's interest in it. ** Affects: ipxe (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ipxe in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916494 Title: Please put ipxe.krn to the desktop CD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ipxe/+bug/916494/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 615545] Re: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com
Agree with Eric- this will be less expensive in the long run, though potential to use CDN for the mirror is intriguing. One last point in support of CNAMEs- in case there is unease with relying on the CNAME solution (as Canonical does not control routing in EC2), rest assured that this method is supported and recommended by EC2 engineering team and is used by virtually every large deployment on EC2. One additional benefit is that, with a low time-to-live value, you can easily replace a troubled repo server with a simple ec2-associate- elastic-ip command. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/615545 Title: Instances launched in a VPC cannot access ec2.archive.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/615545/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 916489] Re: grub-ipxe says B: command not found
I installed it into a vbox client so I was able to get a screenshot of the B: command not found problem. I talked with the devs in #ipxe about it, they say the problem was related to the grub command line handling, and was fixed in https://git.ipxe.org/ipxe.git/commit/8a86a848dc324221c39efd5853846e52a70046ed Indeed, I tried loading the broken ipxe.lkrn from pxelinux, and it loaded just fine. I'm sure there are other performance bugs we haven't pinpointed yet. If you have Sync To VBlank enabled (which is default) then 60 FPS is probably to be expected. [Bug 836588]
(In reply to comment #14) Note, can't be reproduced on the trunk, the strcmp isn't DCEd there, but guess the problem is just latent there. It looks like a target bug to me. Before RTL loop opts we have: (insn 91 90 92 13 (set (reg:SI 167) (unspec:SI [ (const:SI (unspec:SI [ (symbol_ref/v/f:SI (*.LC4) [flags 0x82] var_decl 0x7f5ebb0a5500 *.LC4) (const:SI (plus:SI (unspec:SI [ (const_int 4 [0x4]) ] 21) (const_int 8 [0x8]))) ] 27)) ] 3)) pr48308.i:228 170 {pic_load_addr_32bit} (nil)) (insn 92 91 94 13 (set (reg:SI 167) (unspec:SI [ (reg:SI 167) (const_int 8 [0x8]) (const_int 4 [0x4]) ] 4)) pr48308.i:228 173 {pic_add_dot_plus_eight} (expr_list:REG_EQUAL (symbol_ref/v/f:SI (*.LC4) [flags 0x82] var_decl 0x7f5ebb0a5500 *.LC4) (nil))) and the pseudo 167 is then used to load one of the strcmp parameters. Then (probably loop invariant motion) moves insn 91 before the loop, as it looks to be loop invariant, but insn 92 is kept in the loop. Next during RA, the register pressure is high and thus pseudo 167 is spilled, so before the loop there is a store. Then during the *.csa pass DCE is performed and the strcmp is removed, which means insn 92 is removed as well, but the store before the loop of course is kept. And there is no further DSE pass that would optimize that (now dead) store away. So, IMHO arm_reorg needs to handle this case, find out what minipool entries don't have the corresponding UNSPEC_PIC_BASE insn and handle them somehow (either by emitting there a dummy 0 or similar, or trying to replace the insn with UNSPEC_PIC_SYM with something else, ...). That said, perhaps it would be nice to help the loop optimizers somehow figure out that even the UNSPEC_PIC_BASE is loop invariant (wrap it into CONST?). Found it I think- the problem is way before any of this . A transformation in combine looks suspicious. The first clue to all this was that the compiler was removing a call of strcmp with .LC4 which is the constant string -noout . If you look at the testcase, there is a use of noout afterwards which is to call : if (!noout) PEM_write_bio_Parameters(out,pkey); However the condition else if (strcmp(*args,-text) == 0) text=1; has a value of text set to 1. However given text is not used later that is the only call to strcmp that can be removed safely. However the strcmp of -text is retained in the final code generated but the call to strcmp of -noout is the one that's getting eliminated. Here's the suspicious transformation after combine: (insn 97 96 188 13 (set (reg:SI 168) (reg:SI 0 r0)) ./t.i:41 624 {*arm_movsi_vfp} (expr_list:REG_DEAD (reg:SI 0 r0) (nil))) (insn 188 97 189 13 (set (reg:CC 24 cc) (compare:CC (reg:SI 168) (const_int 0 [0]))) ./t.i:41 198 {*arm_cmpsi_insn} (nil)) (insn 189 188 191 13 (set (reg/v:SI 136 [ badarg ]) (if_then_else:SI (eq (reg:CC 24 cc) (const_int 0 [0])) (reg:SI 168) (const_int 0 [0]))) ./t.i:41 220 {*movsicc_insn} (expr_list:REG_DEAD (reg:SI 168) (nil))) (insn 191 189 153 13 (set (reg/v:SI 135 [ noout ]) (if_then_else:SI (ne (reg:CC 24 cc) (const_int 0 [0])) (reg/v:SI 135 [ noout ]) (const_int 1 [0x1]))) ./t.i:41 220 {*movsicc_insn} (expr_list:REG_DEAD (reg:CC 24 cc) (nil))) is transformed to : (note 97 96 188 13 NOTE_INSN_DELETED) (note 188 97 189 13 NOTE_INSN_DELETED) (insn 189 188 191 13 (set (reg/v:SI 136 [ badarg ]) (const_int 0 [0])) ./t.i:41 624 {*arm_movsi_vfp} (nil)) (insn 191 189 153 13 (parallel [ (set (reg/v:SI 135 [ noout ]) (if_then_else:SI (ne (reg:SI 168) (const_int 0 [0])) (reg/v:SI 135 [ noout ]) (const_int 1 [0x1]))) (clobber (reg:CC 24 cc)) ]) ./t.i:41 273 {movcond} (expr_list:REG_UNUSED (reg:CC 24 cc) (expr_list:REG_DEAD (reg:SI 168) (nil Look at the use of reg:SI 168 in insn 191 rather than reg:SI r0 . Trying 97 - 188: Successfully matched this instruction: (parallel [ (set (reg:CC 24 cc) (compare:CC (reg:SI 0 r0) (const_int 0 [0]))) (set (reg:SI 168) (reg:SI 0 r0)) ]) and then further trying to combine insn 188 into insn 189 we get the following Trying 188 - 189: Failed to match this instruction: (parallel [
[Bug 836588]
(In reply to comment #14) Note, can't be reproduced on the trunk, the strcmp isn't DCEd there, but guess the problem is just latent there. Latent still in trunk with the testcase - you can try it with -fdbg- cnt=cprop:0 with the first reduced testcase and you should be able to see the same behaviour with trunk. The other testcase which is in PR50313 also fails with the same error on trunk (with -Os -fPIC -mcpu=arm9tdmi -marm ) The problem with reduced^2 testcase or reduced testcase appears to get fixed if we add LOG_LINKS to keep track of the dummy i1 in the form of a patch of the following nature. combine.c: try_combine attempts to create a dummy i1 instruction in case i1 is NULL and i2 looks like (parallel [(set (reg:CC X) (compare:CC OP (const_int 0))) (set Y OP)]) which is exactly how the intermediate instruction looks (parallel [ (set (reg:CC 24 cc) (compare:CC (reg:SI 0 r0) (const_int 0 [0]))) (set (reg:SI 168) (reg:SI 0 r0)) ]) i1 now becomes (set (reg:SI 168) (reg:SI 0 r0)) and i2 becomes (set (reg:CC 24 cc) (compare:CC (reg:SI 0 r168) (const_int 0 [0]))) but there are no LOG_LINKS to indicate that even when we've created the dummy i1 - i2 actually feeds into i1. After changing try_combine[1] to create a LOG_LINKS to indicate this relationship between i1 and i2 we no longer eliminate the wrong strcmp call and therefore this should IMHO be the handled in combine rather than faffing around in the backend. However this doesn't fix the testcase from PR50313 (gmime.i) which prima-facie appeared to exhibit the same behaviour as this particular testcase and that needs reopening and further investigation to be sure that the IR is valid when cfgcleanup decides to eliminate the PIC insn in. cheers Ramana diff --git a/gcc/combine.c b/gcc/combine.c index 4178870..f6b8769 100644 --- a/gcc/combine.c +++ b/gcc/combine.c @@ -2865,6 +2865,8 @@ try_combine (rtx i3, rtx i2, rtx i1, rtx i0, int *new_direct_jump_p, SUBST (PATTERN (i2), XVECEXP (PATTERN (i2), 0, 0)); SUBST (XEXP (SET_SRC (PATTERN (i2)), 0), SET_DEST (PATTERN (i1))); + LOG_LINKS (i2) = alloc_insn_link (i1, LOG_LINKS (i2)); + } } #endif -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/836588 Title: armel FTBFS with gcc 4.5 org 4.6 O2 and fPIC To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc/+bug/836588/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to New. [Bug 916410] [NEW] HP 6540B soft wireless switch not working
Public bug reported: There are two issues: 1. Bug 914838 The softkey is unmapped 2. The softkey, after being maped, does not do anything. In oneiric, this was solved by manually installing the urfkill package. However, after upgrading to precise, it no longer works. Even when it was working in oneiric, there was a small issue. The HP laptop docs say that if any wireless device (wifi or bluetooth) is active, the softkey light should be blue, and in Windows it works this way. However, in oneiric, using the bluetooth indicator applet to turn off just bluetooth makes the light orange (disabled) even though wireless is still active. The reason is as follows: 'rfkill list' shows 2 bluetooth devices: ian@wallyworld:/etc$ rfkill list 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: hp-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: phy1: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 16: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no The bluetooth indicator applet does a 'rfkill block 1'. What it needs to do instead is 'rfkill block 16'. If I do this manually, this stops bluetooth (and even the bluetooth indicator goes grey as expected), but it correctly leaves the soft key light blue because wireless is still working. ian@wallyworld:/etc$ sudo rfkill block 16 ian@wallyworld:/etc$ rfkill list 0: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: hp-bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 3: phy1: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 16: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: yes Hard blocked: no Sadly, each time bluctooth is toggled on/off, the item number for hci0:bluetooth increments by one, so the next time it would need to do a rfkill block 17 etc. Ideally, the bluetooth indicator on/off would toggle the hci0:bluetooth device and then everything would be as expected. [Bug 916419] [NEW] Signing in to sync on already existing account fails the first time round
Public bug reported: I've reproduced this on three separate computers, each running Precise. Steps to reproduce: 1. Start Software Center. 2. From the File menu, choose Sync Between Computers... 3. From the registration window, choose to login to you existing account. Enter your credentials and continue forward. What happens: In addition to the window saying you're now signed in, you also get the registration window. Sync is not available in the main window. What I expect to happen: To have only the successful sign-in window appear (i.e. not the registration window again) and have sync working in the main window. Workaround: Start the Sync procedure again. Repeat steps 1.-3. above. This time it works as I expect it to: the registration window doesn't re-appear after entering my credentials, and I get the sync view in the main window. [Bug 916416] [NEW] Closing an app from a group of apps should give focus to the next app in that group
Public bug reported: When there are multiple instances open from the same program and you close one instance from that group, the focus is not set to the next instance in that group. It is not clear what the rules of resetting the focus are, but it is not expected behaviour that focus is set to a 'random' app. Use case 1: - a user has multiple instances open of EOG (non-tabs) - he wants to close all those instances by clicking on the close-button on top one by one - everytime he closes an instance, he has to switch (by the launcher or otherwise) to the next instance he likes to close which is very counterproductive Use case 2: - a user has Firefox open and the separate download-window - he closes the download window and expects to return to Firefox - this is however not the case, so he is somewhere lost ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916416 Title: Closing an app from a group of apps should give focus to the next app in that group To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/916416/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

RE: [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Perhaps we need to gather information about such successes and spread the information. If we can find enough data perhaps we can get press attention and thus more attention from game studios. Perhaps you are referring to projects like The Humble Indie Bundle. Such games are often very inspired by old games, but naturally avoid using any original material... Interestingly enough The Humble Indie Bundle stats show that there are more Linux gamers then OS X gamers. If we can find more such stats then we can claim that Linux GAMING MARKET SHARE is larger then OS X, imagine what such headlines does to game studio decision makers... Remember then market share != user share. The games industry has made occasional forays into GnuLinux-land but never gains traction. This is despite such forays sometimes making significant profits. I don't know how true but there is a story about someone porting quite a few famous legacy games such as Elite and releasing in a few different sizes and then asking people to pay what they felt it was worth, even allowing people to download for free. The unexpected result was that a huge amount of cash flooded in and when broken down by OS it was the GnuLinux users that paid far more per download and in total. The games industry then did what people normally do when they find something enourmously successful and highly profitable but a little unusual and possibly contra-intuitive. They ignored the results. Thanks for the bug report, David. There seems to be a character encoding mismatch that only breaks Onboard in certain locales. I suspect there will be a python backtrace that confirms this. Also please post the ouput of 'locale'. As a workaround, see if running onboard in english helps. [Bug 916430] [NEW] Bug in ftdi_sio in linux 3.0.0-14-generic
Public bug reported: There seems to be a bug in the ftdi_sio driver shipped with ubuntu 11.10. I've been able to reproduce the bug on both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32 bit machines. The Problem : Connecting an FT2232H programmed to function in CPU FIFO mode in channel A to a ubuntu machine causes the driver to crash immediately. dmesg provides a long and, to me, incomprehensible trace which I've pasted below. Once this happens, I need to restart my computer before it does anything with an FTDI again. Possibly, forcing the ftdi_sio to unload would be sufficient, but I'm not certain how to achieve that effect. The lsusb entry for the FTDI also does not disappear after disconnection, and lsusb -v hangs, probably while trying to probe the device. This does not happen when the FT2232H is programmed to function as a dual UART (the default configuration). The same chip with the same configuration works fine on a machine running Fedora 14 with linux-2.6.35.6-45-fc14. [Bug 116919] Re: The Synaptic Touchpad is not disabled automatically when an external mouse is attached.
In Ubuntu 11.10 the feature auto disabling the touchpad, when a usb mouse is plugged is still not available. Also I do not want to enable SHMConfig. Thats why I help myself with following udev rule: SUBSYSTEM==input, BUS==usb, ACTION==add, ENV{ID_INPUT_MOUSE}==1, RUN+=/sbin/rmmod psmouse SUBSYSTEM==input, BUS==usb, ACTION==remove, ENV{ID_INPUT_MOUSE}==1, RUN+=/sbin/modprobe psmouse I am not 100% happy with this solution, but it works. I do not like to remove a kernel modul just for disabling a device. Does someone know a way to disable the touchpad with a setting, like done with synclient or xinput, but with disabled SHMConfig? It would be great if the auto disabling feature would find its way into ubuntu, after such a long time. Nautilus always have drawn the desktop's text that way. There are plenty of posts in the blogosphere about this matter. [Bug 911079] Re: Error messages from Extensions hidden
@JazzyNico, @John - while I tended to oppose to fix the overlay- scrollbar issues in Inkscape itself for each of the affected widgets separately, maybe the problem reported here could be addressed in a way that would satisfy other needs as well? I'm thinking of the fact that the initial size of the dialog - especially when used e.g. for debugging purposes in the development process of extensions - is rather small which at some point had triggered a (now reverted) change to always open the dialog in maximized state - see bug #813807. How difficult would it be to make the dialog remember its last use window size (and position), and adjust (or expand) the size of the text field (scrollwindow) to the restored dialog size (instead of using a hard-coded minimal height)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/911079 Title: Error messages from Extensions hidden To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/911079/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It is an style matter that depends on personal preferences, and it's not technically a bug. [Bug 848270] Re: dark toolbar in nautilus
To clarify, IMHO the horrible thing is Nautilus and its truncated toolbar, and not Ambiance. The Nautilus toolbar looks horrible even with Adwaita or Radiance, bot the color contrast under that themes is not that accented as in Ambiance. ** Tags removed: light-themes nautilus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/848270 Title: dark toolbar in nautilus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/light-themes/+bug/848270/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
