[Bug 923538] Re: apparmor prevents cups-pdf from writing to /var/spool/cups/

2012-01-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package cups - 1.5.0-16

---
cups (1.5.0-16) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Till Kamppeter ]
  * debian/filters/, debian/local/backends/, debian/local/filters/,
debian/local/cpdftocps.convs, debian/local/oopstops.convs,
debian/local/oopstops.types, debian/local/postscript.ppd,
debian/local/pstopdf.convs, debian/local/pstopdf.types,
debian/local/text.convs, debian/local/textonly.ppd, debian/cups.install,
debian/cups-common.links, debian/cups.links, debian/rules: Removed all
add-on filters and backends which now get hosted by OpenPrinting in the
OpenPrinting CUPS filters package (Debian package "cups-filters"). Also
removed some obsolete or redundant filters/backends/PPDs: mailto, oopstops,
dvipipetops, samba-to-ps, postscript.ppd, pdf.ppd.
  * debian/rules: Removed filters, backends, and MIME conversion rules from
upstream CUPS which have now moved to the cups-filters package.
  * debian/rules: Do not apply the PDF filters add-on package any more as
the filters are supplied by cups-filters now. Call aclocal and
autoconf explicitly, as the add-on package does not call them for us
any more.
  * debian/control: Let the cups binary package depend on cups-filters, so
that the moved filters and backends stay available.
  * debian/control: Do not build-depend on liblcms1-dev any more. We do not
have the PDF filters in this package any more.
  * debian/control: Do not depend on ttf-freefont any more.
  * debian/cups.lintian-overrides: Removed entries for serial and parallel
backends.
  * debian/cups.postinst, debian/cups.prerm, debian/cups.templates,
Updated debconf for the removal of the parallel and serial backends.
  * debian/patches/ubuntu/poppler-0.18.patch: Removed, as the CUPS package
does not contain the PDF filters any more.

  [ Martin Pitt ]
  * debian/rules: Stop setting LC_MESSAGES, this was fixed upstream in the
test suite a while ago.
  * Drop debian/dirs: Unnecessary.
  * Drop debian/suid: Not used anywhere, and the time when cups shipped suid
backends is long gone.
  * Drop debian/docs: Redundant with debian/cups.docs.
  * Drop debian/patches/pdftops-testsuite.patch: Not applied, and fixed
upstream.
  * manpage-translations.patch: Update German translations, thanks Helge
Kreutzmann. (Closes: #630217)
  * Add Polish debconf translations, thanks Michał Kułach. (Closes: #657670)
  * debian/local/apparmor-profile: Allow cups-pdf to read /var/spool/cups.

[Bug 921315] Re: lightdm greeter provides no access to pam accounts

2012-01-29 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG
No. We are fine with users who have already logged in having their
username visible; that's helpful.

It's not a lightdm issue, but I'm really quite flabbergasted how even
one user shows up in the accounts manager before anyone has logged in,
on our configuration. In any case, we like the idea that if a user has
logged in on the system they'll be listed in the accounts manager and
lightdm won't hide their username.

But there must always be an "other accounts" if PAM might let in people
that the accounts manager does not know about.

I hope I'm really clear with this...this bug is not merely a cosmetic
bug. It makes the system completely unusable...

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 902814] Re: Context menu over find dialog has strange grey separator

2012-01-29 Thread Vadim Rutkovsky
Reported upstream - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=668993

** Description changed:

+ Original Report:
Right clicking on the find bar in Oneiric gives a context menu starting with
search related optins (match case, full word etc. - the options given when you
click on the magnifying glass) followed by text related options like cut, copy
and paste.
The two sections are separated by a thick grey horizontal bar rather than
GTK's usual thin, subtle bar.
+
+ TESTCASE:
+ 1) Open find dialog (Ctrl+F)
+ 2) Right click on Find textbox
+
+ Result: context menu has a thick grey separator
+ Expected Result: context menu has a normal GTK+ separator

[Bug 342433] Re: hexdump :: irregular illegal seek

2012-01-29 Thread Ancoron Luziferis
Hi Ralph,

could you please download and execute the updated test script I have
provided to verify that your version is running correctly?

I just tested again on an Ubuntu 11.04 that has bsdmainutils 8.2.2
(which fails, but is OK since not an LTS release):

$ testHexdump.sh "ABCD"

Executing test 'echo'...
   :) stable
Executing test 'echo ... | hexdump'...

Executing test 'echo ... | hexdump -x'...
   :) stable
Executing test 'echo ... | hexdump -x -s 1'...
   :( 61 / 1000 executions failed
Executing test 'echo ... | sed ... | iconv ... | hexdump -x -s 2'...
   :( 70 / 1000 executions failed
Executing test 'echo ... | xxd -s 1'...

Executing test 'echo ... | od -x -j 1'...

...on the other hand an 11.10 installation with bsdmainutils 8.2.3 seems to be
fine:

$ ./bin/testHexdump.sh "ABCD"

2012-01-29 Thread Robert Roth
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 920650] Re: windows smoothly and slowly lag behind mouse cursor when using multiple monitors

2012-01-29 Thread Eduards Bezverhijs
Hi!

Too early I said everything is OK :( It appears that it's quite slow, maybe
that was related to monitor sizes, at home I have 1680x1050 monitor (the same
as laptop) but here at work I use 1280x1024 + laptop...
Expo is real slow, stutters like hell, glxgears say about 1000 or a bit less.
Here's the output, I added monitor, then run glxgears and then I removed it,
see it's 3 times slower :(

4580 frames in 5.0 seconds = 915.950 FPS
4584 frames in 5.0 seconds = 915.856 FPS
4304 frames in 5.0 seconds = 860.729 FPS
4481 frames in 5.0 seconds = 895.409 FPS
4802 frames in 5.0 seconds = 960.303 FPS
4947 frames in 5.0 seconds = 988.372 FPS
2630 frames in 5.0 seconds = 525.977 FPS
12294 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2457.958 FPS
15616 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3123.126 FPS
15157 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3031.375 FPS
16533 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3306.475 FPS
15189 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3037.679 FPS
15787 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3157.373 FPS

I have ppa:vanvugt/compiz and ppa:vanvugt/unity enabled and system was
updated yesterday.

regards
Eduards

[Bug 875075] Re: NetworkManager does not auto connect mobile broadband network

2012-01-29 Thread Tuomas Salo
@wqqar: going a bit off-topic here, but try running:

nmcli dev|grep '\bconnected *'

It should return a line ending with "connected" when there is a
connection, otherwise empty. Also try running (as root):

nmcli dev|grep -q '\bconnected *'|| nmcli con up id my_connection_id

If there's a problem, this should print it. Check for typos and/or
modify the grep clauses.

[Bug 922162] Re: pdf output file is 6 times bigger than if created by simple-scan

2012-01-29 Thread Jeffrey Ratcliffe
As I said, the file size depends heavily on the compression.

You are using JPG compression, which is good for photo-type images, but
not for scans of text.

The image is 8-bit, when 1-bit would have done.

You say that you are using thresholding, but the log file doesn't show
this.

Try scanning with scan mode = lineart, and save the PDF with compression
= auto.

Thanks again Daniel ! I have already downloaded the bzr branch that
Jason linked to, but I'm having a hell of a time getting all the dev
packages needed to compile. Is there a better way to get all the dev
dependencies from the source code branch ?

[Bug 888039] Re: Gradual degradation in desktop performance.

2012-01-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Michael, it would be very helpful to have another person reviewing and
triaging these bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/

There are a lot, but you may be able to find and cross some off as
duplicates. Others may be so old they are either fixed already (Fix
Released) or are unreproducible. For more instructions, see:

This bug was fixed in the package unity - 4.28.0-0ubuntu2

  to raise (lp: #873100)
- window management, alt-tab - After using 'show desktop' to minimise all
windows, opening any new window also incorrectly restores all
  the minimised windows (lp: #871801)

[Bug 887260] Re: compiz+unity3d draws 3W more power than metacity+unity2d when idle

2012-01-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Steve (and anyone else affected), please test the fixes for bug 917210
using _both_ of these:

ppa:vanvugt/compiz
ppa:vanvugt/unity

If that solves the problem then we can mark this as a duplicate of bug
917210 (even though this bug is older, I know).

[Bug 923609] [NEW] Sync from other computer doesn't finish loading

2012-01-29 Thread Patrick Marchwiak
Public bug reported:

After reinstalling my system I was hoping to get all my applications
reinstalled using the software center's sync feature.

After choosing the "Sync Between Computers..." option in the file menu I
see "This computer (ceo)" and "ceo" in the listing of synced systems.
When I click on the "This computer" option I can see the list of
installed applications. When I click the other configuration ( from the
previous install) the main pane on the right shows the animated spinner
indicating the list is loading but it never finishes. I ave tried
restarting the app as well as the system to no avail.
