[Bug 496223] Re: inkscape should recommend rather than suggest libgnomevfs2-extra

2012-03-04 Thread ~suv
> waiting on bug #946715

in inkscape, if libgnomevfs2-extra is not installed, the import from
openclipart.org will fail.

Note: in the next major stable Inkscape 0.49, the (just recently merged) new
dialog for 'Import Clip Art…' will no longer depend on libgnomevfs2-extra (uses
GIO instead as backend).
Packages based on the current stable release branch lp:inkscape/0.48.x still do
though (there is one more bug-fix release planned before 0.49 gets out later
this year, no ETA).

See also bug #734417 and the linked blueprint there.

[Bug 946894] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000004

2012-03-04 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 402215] Re: ntop does not install correctly with no 'eth0' device

2012-03-04 Thread Ludovico Cavedon
A fresh installation of the latest ntop will not try to use eth0 by
default, but will listen on no interface.

However if the answer "eth0" is cached by debconf from a previous
installation and eth0 is not up or available, the installation of ntop
will fail in the postinst.

I have fixed this for the next upload to Debian unstable by preventing
the init script to exit with an error if the user has specified an
interface which is not available. In this way the installation will not
fail, even though ntop will not start. It will be however possible to
reconfigure ntop with dpkg-reconfigure.

Thanks for taking the time to report the problem.

[Bug 946894] [NEW] BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000004

2012-03-04 Thread Captain_Glen
Public bug reported:

I was attempting to repair a corrupted usb drive with disk utility.

It got corrupted by pulling it out after clicking shutdown on a ubuntu
PC (possibly a sperate bug?)

I had disk utility open and clicked safely remove. Then I pulled the
usb out and plugged it in a couple of times. The screen went black with
a bunch of writting on it for a second and then back to Ubuntu with a
message that an error had occured.

[Bug 944616] Re: qtractor: freeze exception request for new release

2012-03-04 Thread Dan MacDonald
I can see that qtractor version 0.5.4 is in the Debian sid repos now so
who is it who can authorize or perform this sync you mention Alessio?

I personally don't use UbuntuStudio so I'm not entirely sure they even
bundle qtractor with that distro although they most certainly should and
I fully expect that they do include qtractor already and I'd def want to
see 0.5.4 included in the next US release.

[Bug 838811] Re: load average too low

2012-03-04 Thread Doug Smythies
I have two test computers: One has my kernel build environment for this
issue, and I don't want to mess that up just yet; The other is too
pathetic to compile the kernel, and is the one on which I do these
kernel request tests.

I do not knnow if it is relevant, but yesterday I did a complete new
install of the daily ISO of 12.04 Beta 1 for 2012.03.03 on the pathetic
computer (and gave the related "PASS" feedback to the daily ISO testing
web page)

I did the "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" just now, but
I am still at kernel 3.2.0-17-generic-pae #27.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the fix is in the development kernel yet anyhow.
I'm setting this bug back to confirmed.

[Bug 946889] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000004

[Bug 946141] Re: Touchpad stopped working

2012-03-04 Thread Nikola Borisof
Very interesting. At first when I got the bot message I was thinking no
way the thing will get fixed by updating to the latest kernal, but it
got fixed. I actually got fixed by some other updates right before the
kernel.

[Bug 926135] Re: bamfdaemon crashed with SIGABRT in g_assertion_message()

2012-03-04 Thread Gary Breed
I had Firefox open to a static webpage, and was running System Monitor
at the time. I went to System Settings, Removable Media, and then when I
clicked on, "Never prompt or start programs on media insertion," I
received this Problem message. Nothing happened, though - everything
still seemed to be running and working like it should be.

Info: I'm running Precise beta 1 32-bit, with updates. I couldn't repeat
the problem on the same session.

[Bug 946888] [NEW] Loose security on Locked screen.

2012-03-04 Thread Jeet
Public bug reported:

What happens:
Screen lock: prior to login the system responds to the first several characters
typed and responds to mouse or trackpad movements.

For security sake; Shouldn't this be tightened up?

What should not happen:
Input buffer should not accept signals (ie: characters, keyboard strokes; and
not mouse or trackball inputs.

What could potentially happen:
the Hack of system by way of buffer use; thru the momentary laspe of security
during the first instance of "locked screen" activity just prior to a login.

Try it and you'll see.

Let me know what your thoughts are:

[Bug 946886] [NEW] Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit/C/GTK 3 menu crash

2012-03-04 Thread anewguy
Public bug reported:

I have a C program I'm working on that uses GTK. 4 options - Create New
File, Open Existing File, Save File and Quit were originally just gtk
buttons on the window - short cut while initially coding. Now it's
improved to the point that the few things I have working so far need to
go out for testing to the users that wanted it. Well, in order to clean
it up I made those 4 options into a "File" submenu on a menubar. The
Create New File option, besides setting an internal variable, uses a
gtk_dialog to send the message

New CSS File Will Be Created With Your Changes
When You Save The File

There is newline after "Changes" - a "\n" in C, to force this to a
multi-line display.

Without the newline, the message was still wrapping to 2 lines.

The message is displayed, and returns from the call to the common
function I use that contains the dialogbox.

As soon as the function "returns", so control is passed back to the
menubar handling (e.g., code I didn't write) the entire process aborts.
I have tried this without a multi-line message and it works - it only
aborts when the message text was multi-line.

I have screen captures and the source available, including the
traceback, etc., in the terminal window.

I am able to work around this for now, but wonder why this aborts.
Everything I've seen indicates this can be a multi-line text string.

Thanks in advance,
Dave ;)

[Bug 806291] Re: [needs-packaging] Boot-Repair

2012-03-04 Thread Fabrice Coutadeur
Hi,

Given that Debian version won't be ready on-time for Precise, would it be
possible to upload it to Ubuntu and then sync back from Debian?
Any Archive admin volunteers to review it if it got uploaded?

Reviewing it myself, I found the following 'flows' in the package/app:
- desktop-file-validategives the following error: "boot-repair.desktop: error:
value "3.08" for key "Version" in group "Desktop Entry" is not a known version"
on both .desktop files
- copyright file should name the files with his path for the MIT license
(usr/share/boot-sav/bis*.sh)
- the same for glade2script.py (usr/share/boot-sav/glade2script.py)
- When launching boot-repair, I'm getting a popup stating that there is a newer
version of boot-repair that I should download or use boot-repair-disk. I think
this popup should be disabled for Debian/Ubuntu via a distro specific patch.
- it installed syslinux and parted when launched. Shouldn't that be a Depends
in the boot-repair package (control file) as this seems quite mandatory to have
them?
- I've got the feeling that boot-repair have ot be launched as root. Is it the
case? If so, you should use gksudo or equivalent in the .desktop files
- I ran cleanupubiquitybefore by error, and I got lucky because I wasn't logged
in as root, otherwise I would have deleted all my system. Is it really the
intention? If so, it should be clearly stated in the description and if
possible, add a warning at the beginning of the script.

Thanks,
Fabrice

[Bug 933474] Re: XMPP account can't login: "not authorized"

2012-03-04 Thread Jan
In the meanwhile I did another test and it turns out that the reason for
this error seems to be that I use a different domain than the primary
one of the server. Login with user...@macjabber.de works fine and the
described error only happens when login with u...@differentdomain.com.
Of course the differentdomain.com has been configured properly at the
server and login with Pidgin Windows and u...@differentdomain.com works
without a problem. I suspect server's certificate verification of the
Pidgin Linux build is faulty for this particular use case.

[Bug 946867] [NEW] gnome-shell themes not recognized by gnome-tweak-tool

2012-03-04 Thread Jason M. Hall
Public bug reported:

[Bug 919298] Re: Crashes if no user account shown

2012-03-04 Thread Robert Ancell
Fixed a trivial crash when no user list:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-greeter-team/unity-greeter/trunk/revision/331

But there's still an odd entry box shown without text when this occurs.
We probably want to show a username entry when the list is empty, and
not when there are users. (and make sure to handle user accounts being
added removed, e.g. deleting the single user account should switch to a
username entry, then adding a new one should return to the list).

[Bug 946863] [NEW] apt-get update ignores sytem proxy settings

2012-03-04 Thread Jacques
Public bug reported:

1. I go to Dash | Network | Network proxy where I set up my proxy.
2. Go to a terminal and say wget www.google.com, this works.
3. type sudo apt-get update
4. See that apt-get update does not use the proxy setting that wget uses.
5. edit /etc/apt/apt.conf:
Acquire::http::proxy "http://localhost:3128/";;
Acquire::ftp::proxy "http://localhost:3128/";;
Acquire::https::proxy "https://localhost:3128/";;
6. Try apt-get update again
7. It Works!

Network proxy thould update the apt.conf file as well.

This is actually a network settings bug, but it manifests in apt-get.

[Bug 946859] [NEW] after 20-24 hours or compiz restart indicators fail to function

2012-03-04 Thread Ryan Freitag
Public bug reported:

after 20-24 hours the incdicator panel icons either fail to function
which makes me have to either restart the application or log out and log
back in to utilize the indicator applets. This is MOST noticable with
indicator-weather and xchat panel indicators. Should not have to
logout/restart or restart applications in order to get full panel usage
out of them. Ubuntu (and linux) are built around being up and running
all the the time, not being restarted like MS windows every 24 hours.

2012-03-04 Thread Jayson Gundy

pad, note it does not work until num lock is turned on again at every
login.
