I think the problem is with Unity, not X, since some parts of desktop works and I can switch to text terminals (alt + f1). Yep, There's two bugs here. I'll make this one the 'resize' bug and raise another for the growpart failure once I've worked out what is going on there. My initial thoughts was to have cc_resize_fs.py check the existing filesystem to see what its limits were and then resize to the smaller of those limits or the partition size - rather than failing horribly. But it doesn't appear to be entirely trivial to work out what the maximum filesystem size is - even though mkfs.ext4 tells you when the filesystem is created. In my use case we've just launched terabyte disks on the Brightbox Cloud. Launching those with an ubuntu image created using default mkfs.ext4 parameters is what is causing these faults. Happens on my Asus G51j with the GTS 360m and on my desktop with HD 4870. Definite security issue. The nvidia card isn't readable usually but my ATI card show the whole screen completely readable with the right 200-300 pixels distorted. Workspaces can now be changed in CCSM, under General Options Desktop Size Horizonthal/Vertical Virtual Size. It works at runtime, and I think that a separate cinfiguration window is not needed anymore, cause this is an advanced task and for this type of task CCSM would suffice. The permissions for /dev/crystalhd are also reset to world-writable. This is not the default in Ubuntu and I don't know if there are any security risks associated with it. You can just leave that line out of course. Then people won't be worse off after resume than before ... that is, only root will be able to play accelerated video. Maybe that's for another bug report. I agree that this workaround is not ideal. The crystalhd_hw_resume: Invalid Arguments should never happen I suppose. But this is a working kludge that might be the only way to fix this issue in time for 12.04 final. Oh maybe I should clarify that the above syslog snippet is from resume. Playing a video after suspend ... I don't have the syslog output at hand because I fixed this for me but it says something about opening the handle, doing some stuff that doesn't work, closing the handle again. This happens for me as well on a VMware VM, I thought that maybe LVM was the cause as my first install was using VMware Easy Install and that most likely didn't use LVM, but I tried a non LVM configuration and it also broke.
