[Bug 920036] Re: Got status code 401 while trying to backup

2012-03-16 Thread João Santana
@mfisch, I have this error too, when I try to backup to Ubuntu One with
Deja-Dup.

When clicking on Backup button on Deja-Dup dialog, after some time
preparing the backup, Deja-Dup returns this error message.

[Bug 929139] Re: Cannot restore backup from NAS using Deja Dup

2012-03-16 Thread Michael Terry
Hello! Sorry for not being involved in this thread earlier. I bet I
know what's going on.

It's because it's running duplicity as root, and root doesn't have easy
access to your nautilus mount. If you instead restored to a new folder
as your user, it would work fine I bet.

This is certainly a bug... But I'll have to think about how best to fix
it.

** Also affects: deja-dup

** Summary changed:

- Cannot restore backup from NAS using Deja Dup
+ Can't restore from remote server after prompt for root password

[Bug 925910] Re: Audio dies shortly after reboot or ALSA restart

2012-03-16 Thread rybu
Oh no, the sound still disappears, it just takes longer than it used to.
But the video problem is persistent. It doesn't appear like anyone has
any idea what the problem is, so if it does not vanish on the upgrade to
12.04, I'll try formatting the hard-drive and starting with a fresh
install. I think this system has been upgraded at least 4 times.

[Bug 957215] Re: unity-2d should show "Unity-2d Desktop or Ubuntu-2d Desktop in panel when on Desktop focus

2012-03-16 Thread Doug McMahon
Giving it a little thought, unless you've other plans, it seems that the
unity-2d session should show Ubuntu-2d on the panel. It maintains continuity
from the login & lets users know that they're on what they choose.
Or if they choose Ubuntu then it's an immediate sign that something has gone
wrong.

There is also a surprising number of requests from users as to how to
tell if they're on the 3d or 2d session. There's no reason not to make
this a bit more upfront.

[Bug 801840] Re: MCE Kernel Panic on kernel 2.6.38

2012-03-16 Thread Brendan McLearie
@Daniel Manrique and anyone esle interested.

Bug update:

I've tried booting from USB with 11.10. Idea was to log a new bug
report. However, the system won't run long enough to be able to do much
of anything.

2.6.35-28-server: Stable
2.6.38-8,10,11-server,generic: All Crash.
2.6.38-02063808-generic: Crash

Its been a while since I tried that mainline kernel, so I'll need
reminding where to source them and how to install.

Let me know if you need any other info, and many many thanks for your
help.

Cheers
Brendan

[Bug 847578] Re: e-calendar-factory crashed with SIGSEGV while importing ics data

2012-03-16 Thread iMac
It seems to have moved to fix-released for the package.. but the bug-
notifier did it.. I don't see any change to the package other then
upstream commits, which do resolved the issue (potentially).

[Bug 957602] [NEW] cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-03-16 Thread Matthew Carr
Public bug reported:

Fully encrypt system, with raid0 on 2 drives. Upgraded to beta 12.04
from update-manager -d, failed to boot. Verified that the kernel had
correct crypted drive UUID's in conf.d by comparing to a back up of the
boot partition from before the upgrade. Temporarily fixed by copying
the initrd.img-3.0.0-16-generic from the backup and using that to boot
instead of initrd.img-3.2.0-18-generic supplied by the upgrade. Re-
installing the new kernel through synaptic package manager in hopes it
would auto-generate the right settings did not fix this issue. From a
previous ticket I researched prior to successfully booting (I don't know
the ticket number because I was in the live-cd at the time), cryptsetup
might not be the root cause, just the first error to display in the
splash screen. (So this might be a dupe of a previously known issue,
thought I should report since it still exits)

The above is pretty much the limit of my technical knowledge, so if you
want further information please let me know what to run to get it for
you.

[Bug 957508] Re: Brasero v 3.3.91 suddenly reports as being a broken package in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-03-16 Thread Tigerboy
Actually I think the error is related to the tar package-- haven't been
able to untar things with the default archiver program in Nautilus-- I
use xarchiver in it's place with no problem. What is up with it. I will
go for a new bug report as soon as i sort things out.

[Bug 957508] Re: Brasero v 3.3.91 suddenly reports as being a broken package in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-03-16 Thread Tigerboy
Seem to have been able to change the line 21614 in the file
/var/lib/dpkg/status "libgstrmam**.10-0" to libgstreamer0.10-0 using
komodo text editor and save it as such being careful to allow it to
update as it is an open file in the package system. Now I no longer have
the broken package "brasero" however I have a new error which I will
probably move to a new bug report-

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-control-
center_1%3a3.3.91-0ubuntu4_amd64.deb: subprocess dpkg-deb --fsys-tarfile
returned error exit status 2

I appear to have fixed this bug and this new bug seems to be completely
unrelated. We really need to have some sort of system that prevents
these massive interdependencies from having one single character
threaten the entire system-- it is not a self healing and functional way
to go- it makes Linux very difficult to justify using in high activity
corporate environments.

I tried to propose that this bug be fixed during Oneiric alpha and it
still has not been dealt with. This will be a major confusion for newer
users come release day and it's current state is in conflict with the
stated goals of Precise !! As it stands now it is 'user_unfriendly'.

[Bug 956827] Re: embedded terminal doesn't update

2012-03-16 Thread Stéphane Graber
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 882147 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882147

tail works perfectly without inotify but like a large number of software
will use inotify if present.

The bug we're tracking in bug 882147 is the fact that overlayfs
advertises inotify support and allows software to call the inotify API
but without actually sending the events.

So the userspace side is doing the right thing as there's no way for it
to know that inotify isn't working (what it's receiving is identical to
a file that's simply not changing), the problem lands on the kernel side
and that's what we're focusing on now.

[Bug 957577] [NEW] Rhythmbox identifies second CD in 2-CD set as identical to the first

2012-03-16 Thread Daniel Llewellyn
Public bug reported:

I have tried importing from CD a few multi-CD sets where there is more
than one CD for each album. It appears that Rhythmbox only identified
the first CD correctly, and misidentifies the second (and potentially
other) CD as the first appears. I.e. the second CD has the same track
listing as the first, which is clearly incorrect by checking the back of
the box.

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Start Rhythmbox
2) Insert first disc of multidisc set
3) Verify that the tracklisting is correct
4) Replace first disc with second disc
5) Notice that the track listing is identical to the first disc's listing (i.e.
incorrect)

Looks you can ignore the memory leak message now, so could you make sure
if your usb mass storage performance can be improved after installing the
kernel images I provided?

If so, I will push the changes into official Lucid release.

[Bug 957573] [NEW] Bootup splash screen stalls and displays strange colors upon bootup

2012-03-16 Thread Aaron Hastings
Public bug reported:

This is a very strange one. Occasionally when I boot up my laptop (ASUS
N53), just after selecting my OS in GRUB, the screen will display
strange colors - almost like I've broken my LCD - and then displays a
black screen with a single purple vertical bar and doesn't continue to
LightDM. The only way to resolve it is by SysRq REISUB-ing.

The next time I boot it will *always* boot up perfectly. It's only every
5-10 boots that it does this. See the attached photo of the screen with
the aforementioned purple bar (I'll attach photos of the "crazier"
colors next time it happens).

BTW, you have to run the test with the change on your Intel G41M4-F, since

[Bug 952574] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 beta 1 won't boot off USB key with NVidia GTX 560

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
The reason it says your driver is VESA and your resolutions are capped
to 1280 is because you're running the -vesa video driver. It doesn't do
RANDR either, so that likely is why you see only one monitor enabled.
It may be running -vesa because of nomodeset being specified.

So really the question is why is it not loading -nouveau.

[Bug 946899] Re: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung

2012-03-16 Thread Phoenix
Sorry for being desperate to get rid of the problem. I installed the 3.3
Kernel, but it didn't work, X still freezed. Then I rememberd I had to
add the kernel nolapic to being able to boot at all. New kernel, new
luck. I removed that option from Grub and so far it looks very good.

[Bug 943643] Re: Fonts are blurry after the installation of Nvidia driver using jockey

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Sounds roughly similar to bug #940742.

I'm a bit confused by your last two comments. In #2 you said you
changed the mode frequency to Auto in xorg.conf, then in #3 you have to
change it from Auto to 60Hz. Couldn't you just set it to 60Hz in your
xorg.conf directly?

Your xorg.conf is not attached to this bug btw, can you attach it?

[Bug 952059] Re: 1.11.4-0ubuntu6 :Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV

2012-03-16 Thread Bryce Harrington
Does this happen every cold boot or only this once, or intermittently?

You said it crashed at cold boot... Are there warm boots or other
situations where it'll work fine?

If the issue is still happening, try uninstalling nvidia (and maybe
purging), and reinstalling.

Tail should work even without inotify, actually there is nothing that
should not be so fragile that the lack of any one add-on, or dare I say
optional, feature should cause a problem.

Tail worked long b4 inotify, it needs to detect malfunctions in inotify
and fall back to legacy code. Actually what's wrong with select(2) for
tail?
