[Bug 528584] Re: show notification when software is installed if software center is closed before installation finishes

2012-04-23 Thread Stéphane Guillou
This is partially fixed in 12.04 beta: the launcher icon of the new app has a
progress bar, and wiggles when it is finished installing.
But if "new applications in launcher" is unticked in USC, there is no sign that
the installation is finished if USC is closed.

The fix worked for me in Oneiric, sending files was fine. But then I
upgraded to Precise and I can sent files from PC to phone only. Sending
from phone to PC gives me connection refused error. Probably same
situation as for CaptainMark.

[Bug 934192] Re: Files and fields with portuguese characters corrupts the database and idv (2/3?)

2012-04-23 Thread Eric Miao
Hi Almufadado, could you please test the latest ubuntu release, e.g.
daily live ISO? And what is the charset encoding for the tags in your
mp3 files. If this is caused by tags not in utf-8, could you try put
"export GST_ID3_TAG_ENCODING=" (e.g.
ISO8859-15) to your .bashrc file and re-login to see if anything
changes?

You could also do a quick trial within a shell as:

$> set GST_ID3_TAG_ENCODING=<...>
$> gst-launch --tags uridecodebin uri=file:/// ! fakesink

And see what's the output.

[Bug 905770] Re: preview-latex not working on emacs23

2012-04-23 Thread era
As per the linked post this is not a duplicate of bug #543266 although
the two have the same overall symptom (LaTeX preview fails). The
workaround for #543266 is to upgrade to upstream CVS which according to
the OP on Stackexchange specifically did not solve his problem. Just
noting here in case somebody else would also see the similarity between
the two bugs.

[Bug 983268] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in ends_with_iter_select<__gnu_cxx::__normal_iterator >, char const*, boost::algorithm::is_iequal>() from unity::ui::P

2012-04-23 Thread Bruce Pieterse
I had my laptop resume from suspend mode and connected the external
monitor with an SVGA cable to my laptop. I then moved sublime-text-2 to
the external monitor where the window snapped to the top, making the
application fullscreen. Once placed on the external monitor, the orange
tint that normally fades away, stopped at about 50% before the crash
occurred. Compiz reloaded, reloaded and I was prompted to report the
bug.

[Bug 987650] Re: Audio Realtek ALC889, Green/Black/Yellow Line Out, Rear, no sound

2012-04-23 Thread Blown2bits
Had an extension cable plugged into the front panel, so I didn't think
to realize that it was detecting the headphone even when the headphones
were not plugged into the extension cable.

When the front panel jack is unplugged all 5.1 analog channels work on
the rear panel. Is this related to jack sense?

[Bug 878904] Re: Touchpad stops working after using system for a few minutes

2012-04-23 Thread Siim Põder
this is likely not kernel bug, see here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+question/176273

my guess is the touchpad gets disabled by syndaemon and for some reason
fails to get re-enabled. synclient/xinput being able to re-enable the
mouse speaks for this, also for me the touchpad continued to work on
console with gmp.

[Bug 871808] Re: Asus N55SF/N75SF - External subwoofer not working

2012-04-23 Thread David Henningsson
So, if you want automatic LFE remixing, that should be possible through
PulseAudio:

First, add a new profile for 2.1 by adding this section to
/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/default.conf:

[Mapping analog-surround-21]
# Note that the line below should NOT be changed to surround21.
device-strings = surround40:%f
channel-map = front-left,front-right,lfe,lfe
paths-output = analog-output analog-output-speaker
priority = 7
direction = output

Second, make sure this line is present in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf:

enable-lfe-remixing = yes

Then restart pulseaudio (run "pulseaudio -k" in a terminal), then select
the new profile in the sound settings.

I haven't used LFE remixing myself, so not sure how well it works, but
worth a try :-)

[Bug 979498] Re: Critical: Natty kernel hangs in xlog_grant_log_space

2012-04-23 Thread Juerg Haefliger
I finally managed to create a reproducer for the XFS hang but the provided
kernel does not solve the problem. It hangs within a few seconds, just like the
original 2.6.38-8-server kernel. I also tried the following Ubuntu kernels but
they both hang within a few minutes. Do run a little longer than 2.6.38-8 and
-14 though.
3.0.0-17-server
3.2.0-23-lowlatency

Next I tried the upstream stable kernels but they also hang within an hour:
3.0.29
3.1.10
3.2.15
3.3.2

A typical stacktrace is attached. Once the task is hanging, the
directory or partition becomes unusable and only an emergency sync clear
things up again. Note that I've also started the discussion on the XS
mailing list: http://oss.sgi.com/archives/xfs/2012-04/msg00951.html

[Bug 987622] Re: title

2012-04-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
themusicalduck, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug
because your description and the title didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd
be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 985471] Re: Ubuntu precise (12.04) 64bit hang on reboot

2012-04-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Massimiliano Varani:
1) Posting links to other places is annoying and a waste time when the steps
are already posted in the Bug Description.
2) This report is still missing an oops capture.

[Bug 938658] Re: [nvidia] Restoring minimized applications presents blank window

@Edward: I suggest that you open another bug report describing exactly
the condition for the remaining issues (quite a lot of noise in that bug
report). I'll then have a look at it and see if it can be worked for a
stable release update :)

[Bug 987634] [NEW] unconditional use of SSE3 instructions

2012-04-23 Thread Daniel Scharrer
Public bug reported:

DevIL's 1.7.8 ./configure script enables SSE, SSE2 and SSE3 instructions
if supported by the compiler and unless such instructions are explicitly
disabled by --disable-sse3 etc. There is not run-time check for CPU
support when using these instructions - in fact it adds the -msse3
compiler option.

SSE3 is not universally supported in 32-bit x86 CPUs and using affected
functions such as ilConvertImage() may result in the application being
terminated with the SIGILL signal on such CPUs.

This bug is present in Debian's devil 1.7.8-6 which is used unmodified
in lucid and maverick. There is an 1 year old upstream bug report at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=572954

The bug is also present in natty (1.7.8-6build1), oneiric
(1.7.8-6build2) and precise (1.7.8-6.1ubuntu1)

Re-building DevIL without SSE3 support fixes this bug.

There is also an upstream DevIL bug report at
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3520344&group_id=4470&atid=104470

This bug is also found in many other Linux distributions' DevIL
packages. I have reported it to Gentoo and it has been fixed there:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=412791

[Bug 986147] Re: openssl 1.0.1-4ubuntu2 breaks a bunch of ciphers

2012-04-23 Thread Thomas Bushnell, BSG
Other things that would save us:

1) Any way to disable this regression from configuration files or the like.
(Merely adding an option in the library interface wouldn't help unless puppet
also can be told to pass that option.)
2) Any way from configuration files to tell SSL to use the equivalent of the
-tls1, or -cipher, switches to openssl s_client.
3) Any way from configuration files or command line options to tell puppet to
tell SSL the equivalent of (2).

Sadly, this one change has forced us to probably miss our target release
of our precise distro by a month. :(

[Bug 987622] Re: Continuation of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/390959

2012-04-23 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the
following commands in a terminal window:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add
a tag named: bot-stop-nagging.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 987626] [NEW] peak detection on input tab doubles up on level

2012-04-23 Thread Conor Curran
Public bug reported:

To recreate:

1. Open input tab.
2. Connect alternative input device
3. Move between streams.

Expected behaviour:
- input peak detection accurately represents input level

Instead the peak detection will represent the summed level from all
devices which at one point it was expected to monitor.

the driver itself has no knowledge of the display size, I think it's
just the only driver that triggers it. some combination of setups,
possibly the absolute axis ranges but relative events being sent.
