[Bug 996363] [NEW] defconf: priority range from -19 to 19, but nice range starts at -20

2012-05-07 Thread Zicu Radu
Public bug reported:

Within the debconf the priority range is from -19 to 19.
As far as I understood the docs right, these are nice values.

The nice range actually starts at -20.

Thanks

[Bug 996364] [NEW] systemtap reports error 'Build-id mismatch'

2012-05-07 Thread visual2me
Public bug reported:

My desktop runs Ubuntu precise with linux kernel 3.2.0-24-generic-pae
(i686), and I have installed the relevant linux-image-$(uname -r)-dbgsym
package from the ddebs repository.

When I run the command "sudo stap --vp 1 -e 'probe vfs.read {
print("hello from read\n"); exit()}'" in bash, it finally gets an error
in Pass 5, saying "ERROR: Build-id mismatch: "kernel" vs.
"vmlinux-3.2.0-24-generic-pae" byte 0 (0x54 vs 0xc9) address 0xc15b0850
rc 0".

Then I check the vmlinux-3.2.0-24-generic-pae file with the command
"readelf -x .notes /usr/lib/debug/boot/vmlinux-3.2.0-24-generic-pae",
which shows the value at the address 0xc15b0850 is 0x54. Seems this
value (build-id) in vmlinux-3.2.0-24-generic-pae is not equal to that in
the running kernel.

BTW, when I try to run "sudo stap --vp 1 -e 'probe vfs.read {
print("hello from read\n"); exit()}'", it generates lots of WARNINGS,
saying "WARNING: cannot find module sunrpc debuginfo: No DWARF
information found" and "WARNING: cannot find module nfs debuginfo: No
DWARF information found". Even after I setup the .debug-id folder under
/usr/lib/debug/ as the instructions at
http://sourceware.org/systemtap/wiki/SystemtapOnUbuntu, the WARNINGs
remain. Seems systemtap doesn't look for the module debug info from
/usr/lib/debug/ directory.

[Bug 984243] Re: Screen flickers under Unity 3d --Precise upgrade

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. Hopefully this has been
fixed in a recent update.

If not:

Can you run 'unity --reset' and see if that fixes your issue?

If not:

Could you install the Compiz Settings Manager tool from the software
center and take a look at the refresh rate settings under the
"Composite" plugin? Try enabling/disabling 'detect refresh rate' and
manually setting the refresh rate to suit your monitor.

[Bug 875435] Re: iBus indicator does not show on the panel

2012-05-07 Thread Kwok Ho Yin
Just for more information.

In my system, /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ folder has these files:
..
80appmenu
80appmenu-gtk3
80im-switch
90comsolekit
90qt-a11y
..

As you see 'appmenu', 'appmenu-gtk3' and 'im-switch' have same startup order.
I am not sure which one will be executed firstly while 'appmenu' and
'appmenu-gtk3' just export 'libappmenu.so'. (Export GTK menus over DBus ?)
Thus, I decrease the order of 'im-switch' from '80' to '85' in order to:
1. make sure 'libappmenu.so' is exported before 'im-switch' is executed.
2. startup sequence is remain unchanged.

[Bug 927828] Re: sudo: pam_mount.c:417: modify_pm_count: Assertion `user != ((void *)0)' failed.

2012-05-07 Thread Steve Langasek
That seems like a bug in pam_mount for not having sensible reference
counting behavior for mounts used by multiple sessions, and not a bug in
the sudo patch. How does this work if you try to log in twice over ssh
to the same account?

There have been updates to compiz and 12.04. Could you please update

run 'unity --reset' from the -F2 dialogue, log out, then log in to
Unity 3D and see if that helps. Thanks!

[Bug 994217] Re: All applications launch in the top-left corner

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Though this bug isn't exactly the same, the root cause is the same as
bug 627195 - The issue is indeed compiz's focus-stealing prevention.

To help organize this will become a duplicate as the issue is logged
already and when the above bug is fixed, so will this one.

Thank you for your bug report!

[Bug 994483] Re: The spread windows feature [Super+W] makes no difference between windows

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
This is a very good idea; however, looking at the design spec
(http://design.canonical.com/the-toolkit/unity-task-switching/ under the
'spread' section), it appears that the eventual design decision is to
have the spread interactive in ways similar to our normal usage.
Therefore, I'm going to mark this as a wishlist item.

Thank you for your bug report, and please feel free to contact the
ayatana mailing list with your ideas. I'm just following the spec.

[Bug 996358] [NEW] juju probably should be using lxcbr0 instead of depending on libvirt-bin and using virbr0

2012-05-07 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

While testing juju, I noticed that its lxc implementation depends on
libvirt-bin just to have virbr0 initialized.
That seems to be a big dependency for something as trivial as creating a bridge
and starting dnsmasq, even more so when lxc itself does that by default.

I think juju should drop all the current libvirt code and simply use
lxcbr0 by default (as it's shipped by default in the lxc package since
12.04), probably allowing the user to select another bridge if they
wish.

[Bug 996343] Re: Game performance is choppier with compiz enabled (not unity)

** Attachment added: "bug.ogv"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/996343/+attachment/3136325/+files/bug.ogv

** Description changed:

When compiz is enabled, all of my games have a slight jag to them,
skipping a few frames every second. This choppiness can range from
merely annoying to headache-inducing, depending on the game. This is not
Unity-specific as running a unity-less compiz session still presents the
issue. Furthermore, this is not an Nvidia binary issue as the nouveau
- driver makes no difference.
+ driver makes no difference. Also, desktop animations appear to be smooth
+ with no problems (though they may just be too short to really notice).

Game performance is butter-smooth when I use Ubuntu 2D. Not a hiccup to
  be had.

For an example of the choppiness, please see the video. Watch the
clouds. Since the video was recorded at only 15 fps, the choppiness is
slightly higher than what I actually experience.

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
Hi, Ivanka, thanks for the report.

What program are you using in the screenshot? Have you tried resizing
the dialogue? If yes, does it keep resizing it back to that large box?
There isn't anywhere else the box can go if it's that large so this bug
should be about it being enlarged to that degree (if it wasn't done
manually).

2012-05-07 Thread superphoenix
Public bug reported:

In lubuntu 12.04, when I move the mouse to the bottom left corner of the

When I move the mouse back a little bit, the mouse comes back to the expected
position.

[Bug 994987] Re: Flash plugin skips and lags intermittently while using other programs and browser tabs

2012-05-07 Thread Jon C
I tried a few more things. Killing the Flash process and trying again
did not help.

I also opened the sound settings from the system settings manager. Under
Output > Play sound through, I switched from "headphones" to "digital
output" and then switched back. This seems to have fixed the problem, at
least temporarily. I will wait and see if this fixes it permanently.

[Bug 996344] [NEW] Podcasts in double

2012-05-07 Thread PArnal
Public bug reported:

I use Rhythmbox to manage 15 podcasts.
Since about 3 month, on each start of Rhythmbox, a lot of already downloaded
episodes appear with an "empty" status.

(See screenshot)

Double clicking on it mark them first as "waiting" then "downloaded"
(very quick) and the episode appears twice in the list.

I hoped "Precise Pangolin" to fix this but this is not the case.

[Bug 994987] Re: Flash plugin skips and lags intermittently while using other programs and browser tabs

2012-05-07 Thread Jon C
This additional information might be related.

Today, Flash (pandora) was playing just fine until I opened the Ubuntu Software
Center. I found that my CPU suddenly jumped to 100% sustained utilization, all
programs were locking up, and the music was skipping severly. I checked system
monitor and found that I was also being affected by the bug linked below (the
update-apt-xapian-index process was consuming 100% CPU).
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt-xapian-index/+bug/655831

After closing software center and update manager, CPU usage dropped to
below 50% in both cores and under 50% memory sustained, but the music
continued to skip every few seconds, less severe than before. It is as
if the other bug is triggering this but Flash is unable to recover after
CPU is back to normal until I reboot.

So, steps to reproduce:
1. In Chrome or Firefox, go to pandora.com and play music.
2. While music is playing, open Ubuntu Software Center. Ensure that
update-apt-xapian-index is running (not sure when it runs).
3. Use system monitor or top command to see if CPU is at 100%. If so, check
which processes are consuming the CPU.
4. Close software center.
5. Check that CPU is back to normal.
6. Check if pandora is still skipping.

[Bug 996343] Re: Game performance is choppier with compiz enabled (not unity)

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
I forgot to mention: Disabling vsync made the issue worse, and manually
setting my refresh rate did nothing.

[Bug 996343] [NEW] Game performance is choppier with compiz enabled (not unity)

2012-05-07 Thread Chauncellor
Public bug reported:

When compiz is enabled, all of my games have a slight jag to them,
skipping a few frames every second. This choppiness can range from
merely annoying to headache-inducing, depending on the game. This is not
Unity-specific as running a unity-less compiz session still presents the
issue. Furthermore, this is not an Nvidia binary issue as the nouveau
driver makes no difference.

Game performance is butter-smooth when I use Ubuntu 2D. Not a hiccup to
be had.

For an example of the choppiness, please see the video. Watch the
clouds. Since the video was recorded at only 15 fps, the choppiness is
slightly higher than what I actually experience.
