apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

- After I resume my session from a suspended mode, when attempting to
- connect to a wireless network that was not the network that I was
- connected to most recently before suspending, the system is unable to
- connect, despite the fact that the presence of the network is
- recognized. This may be the same bug as this:
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/665837 , but I have
- specifically noticed that in my case, I can connect to the network that
- I was previously connected to, but not other networks. I will have to
- check again to see if, in fact, I am able to connect to ALL networks
- that I had previously connected to before suspend, or only the one that
- I had most recently connected to.

[Bug 996596] [NEW] Can't open formatted html files with extension xls in Libreoffice 3.5.3

2012-05-08 Thread Julian Alarcon
Public bug reported:

Yesterday I made an updated using the PPA repo in Ubuntu 10.04 of LibreOffice
3.5.2 to 3.5.3, then some files with XLS extensions don't open normally. When I
tried to open the xls file I got a wizard to import text to file.
I use this PPA https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ppa/+packages

But, in this moment I'm using Ubuntu 12.04, so I had installed
LibreOffice 3.5.2 and the files that I mentioned was fine, but using the
proposed repo and updating to 3.5.3 when I tried to open the file also
show me an import dialog. So this is a regression.

There is also a bug report in LibreOffice upstream that need more info, the
file attached there works to make the test:

[Bug 952556] Re: [Precise] [Hardware-killer] HD restarts every few seconds

2012-05-08 Thread Dagnachew L.
Sorry Steve.
I was just checking and clicked on it inadvertently. But, I was surprised that
I (a no dev member) could modify it. I am still hoping that the release will
fix my persistent and annoying HD issue.

Re: [Bug 989793] Re: [nouveaufb, efifb] blank screen on startup, "Visual is FB_VISUAL_TRUECOLOR; not using graphics"

2012-05-08 Thread John Cottier
I am pretty certain this PC (circa 2007) does not support EFI boot.
The service manual does not mention it, and as far I can find out, only
some Power Edge models have this.
I have no special partition for EFI either. I only have standard EXT4
partitions for root home and swap.

[Bug 996443] Re: use UUID=0 for "this partition", e.g. in fstab

2012-05-08 Thread André Pirard
Please notice that using UUID=0 as an alias of a real UUID is not a
GParted matter but one of some disk management component.

PLEASE READ THE TITLE

and see that this report is not (only) related to Gparted but (mostly) to
UUID=0 being an alias.
The Gparted side of the story turns out to be bug #737387.

[Bug 996594] [NEW] upgrade "Compiz & "Unity" now Unity does not work

2012-05-08 Thread IMNemo
Public bug reported:

Today I ran "Update Manager", it have several updates for "Compiz" and
"Unity". I am running Ubuntu 12.04 on a HP Pavilion dv9000 with Nvidis
GeForce Go 7600 video. After the updates I rebooted. Now I can no
longer get a Unity 3D panel (left side of scrren) or a "systray" on the
top of scrren. Only Unity 2D works. On the Unity 3D screen I ran

[Bug 388656] Re: Non-intuitive term "Move to trash"

2012-05-08 Thread Jeremy Orme
I agree with Todd. When you want to delete something you don't expect
to want it back - otherwise you'd move it somewhere specific or rename
it - when you delete an item, you want rid of it (even if your future
self might want it back!). Also, isn't there an inconsistency with
hitting the "Delete" button on the keyboard to move an item into the
trash but having to select "Move to trash" from the menu? Finally, I
think that the concept that you can get your deleted files back out of
the waste basket is pretty well known (even by inexperienced users)
because the recycle bin / trash folder has been around for so long so
why inconvenience the 99% that do understand this principle to maybe
educate the 1% that don't.

[Bug 995655] Re: add provides: sun-java6-jre

2012-05-08 Thread Alberto Diaz
In fact, this is the complete 'provides' list for sun-java6-jre (6.26):

Provides: java-runtime, java-runtime-headless, java-virtual-machine,
java2-runtime, java2-runtime-headless, java5-runtime, java5-runtime-
headless, java6-runtime, java6-runtime-headless

And this is the one for oracle-j2re1.6:

Provides: j2re1.6, java-browser-plugin, java-runtime, java-runtime-
headless, java-virtual-machine, java2-runtime, java2-runtime-headless

The generated .deb files should include this missing provides:
java5-runtime, java5-runtime-headless, java6-runtime, java6-runtime-
headless

For complete compatibility, sun-java6-jre may be included too.

[Bug 996585] [NEW] cups (1.5.0-8ubuntu6) upgrade to precise fails: invoke-rc.d: initscript cups, action "start" failed

2012-05-08 Thread Wookey
Public bug reported:

Upgrading from oneiric to precise (with apt-get upgrade) dies on cups:

Setting up cups (1.5.0-8ubuntu6) ...

invoke-rc.d: initscript cups, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing cups (--configure):

Using pitti's debug script (as suggested in other similar bugs such as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/979877):

# cp /cups.upstart.debug /etc/init/cups.conf

[Bug 996589] [NEW] lightdm doesn't provide visual feedback for accepted password

2012-05-08 Thread Arthur Rodrigues
Public bug reported:

Since I installed ubuntu precise I noticed that when you enter a valid password
for your user account, lightdm simply freezes until the desktop session is
fully loaded.
This, at first, made me think that my computer crashed while loading the
session...

This behaviour is very similar to that when the password is incorrect,
but the "wrong password" message takes less time to appear than the
desktop.

If I'm not confusing things, I'm pretty sure that in early versions the
dots that override password characters disappeared when you typed in the
correct password, and stayed there when the password was wrong. This was
a simple but effective visual feedback...

Now, we (or at least I) keep asking ourselves whether we entered the
correct password or not until something tells us which one happened,
after several seconds.

[Bug 738657] Re: Broadcom BCM43225 no longer works

2012-05-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Yuv, regarding your comments:
>@Christopher: why are you setting the status to incomplete without telling me
>what you are missing?

Why are you changing the status when all the actions items requested of
you in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/738657/comments/7
are not complete?

> this assumes that I can read your mind and know what is missing and
how to complete it.

It's not a matter of mind reading. It's a simple matter of reading what
has been requested of you, and providing the results, so that your
problem may be addressed.

> Please show some respect to those giving feedback and explain what you
are missing.

It's can be considered disrespectful to blatantly disregard what
triagers request of you, then complain about how the status is put back
to the appropriate one.

Re: [Bug 865672] Re: "Adobe Flash Player Settings" dialogue does not respond to mouse clicks

Gnome-panel is already installed on my computer. When I log out and then
log in I don't have a "cog" or option to choose "gnome classic no effects".

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS the "Lucid Lynx".

[Bug 995054] Re: thunderbird loses langpacks after upgrade

2012-05-08 Thread Olivier Mengué
The problem is worse than what I described above: the thunderbird-
locale-fr is correctly installed, but Thunderbird does not seem to see
it.

The real workaround:
cd /usr/lib/thunderbird
sudo rmdir extensions
sudo ln -s ../thunderbird-addons/extensions .

So the real problem is that the thunderbird installation did not replace the
directory /usr/bin/thunderbird/extensions by the symlink.

[Bug 988892] Re: Xorg crash

2012-05-08 Thread Eugene Antimirov
Pelle,

I had the same problem with my Quadro FX 570, Xorg just could not stay
alive for more that 40 minutes, while my home PC with 9600GT runs well.
Then I uninstalled Nvidia drivers, installed Nouveau and there has not
been any problem since. So for now I would call it an unofficial
workaround.

[Bug 996188] Re: Gparted Hosed my USB Thumb Drive

2012-05-08 Thread Phillip Susi
I'm afraid your description is too vague to give a meaningful response.
If you did zero the whole disk, then it no longer has a partition table,
which is why it shows up as unpartitioned. You will need to create a
partition table ( disklabel ) and then you should be able to create a
new partition and format it with a filesystem. It sounds like you may
have used fdisk to create a partition and not formatted it with a
filesystem, which would cause gparted to show the partition type as
unknown.

When reporting bugs, it is important to describe in detail, what you
did, what happened, and what you expected to happen instead.

[Bug 958353] Re: Unity launcher and panel are still visible on the lock screen

2012-05-08 Thread Karim Moussa
I'm seeing the same behaviour of the Super key over/under the locked screen as
Robert. (#15)
But if I hold Super and press one of the number keys to start a program from
the launcher, it will not open, not even in the background.
I've observed this with radeon and i915 on two computers. Killing
gnome-screensaver and restarting it using a terminal doesn't resolve the issue.

2012-05-08 Thread druido77
Hi quent57,
I have reinstalled Ubuntu 64 bit, done all updates, blacklisted acer_wmi
module, removed broadcom proprietary driver and used brcmsmac driver and
rebooted the notebook.
I have latency=0 and link=no but other strings are equal. I see the wlan0
interface but I'm unable to scan any SSID. We have only WPA/WPA2 protected
networks: this type of protection is mandatory in many environments.

[Bug 995054] Re: thunderbird loses langpacks after upgrade

2012-05-08 Thread Olivier Mengué
Confirming on locale fr_FR.UTF-8. I just did the migration
10.04->10.10->11.04->11.10->12.04.

The problem is that the thunderbird-locale-xx is not automatically installed
during system upgrade.
Even using the gnome-language-selector does not fixes the problem.

Workaround: manually install the missing package.

[Bug 996450] Re: package snort 2.9.2-3ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 10

2012-05-08 Thread Nicolas Riesco
I've tracked down the point where the post-installation fails.

It fails in the script /var/lib/dpkg/info/snort.config when line 16
"db_get snort/reverse_order" is run.

To workaorund this failure I have removed the following lines from
script /var/lib/dpkg/info/snort.config:

db_get snort/reverse_order
if [ "x$RET" = "xyes" ]; then
# Remove the -o option which was introduced by Debconf
# (snort/reverse_order) in versions previous to 2.8.5.2-2
DEBIAN_SNORT_OPTIONS=`echo "$DEBIAN_SNORT_OPTIONS" | sed -e 's/
-o$//'`

I believe this bug is related to the following change:

[Bug 996567] [NEW] Setting a window to appear on all desktops and then trying to move it over spaces causes it to go mad

2012-05-08 Thread Mark East
Public bug reported:

If I take a window, right click it's title bar and then try and drag it
around the spaces view it goes mad when traversing the desktops. I know
this isn't a normal thing to do but it should handle this properly.
Personally I think it should trat it as a single window if it is being
dragged around and then cause it to appear on all desktops once the
window has been dropped.

[Bug 996569] [NEW] unused parameter: spf-policyd_time_limit in amavisd-new-postfix

2012-05-08 Thread Birgir Haraldsson
Public bug reported:

When installing amavisd-new-postfix I get multiple errors as such:
/usr/sbin/postconf: warning: /etc/postfix/main.cf: unused parameter:
spf-policyd_time_limit=3600s

The correct parameter is "policy-spf_time_limit", not "spf-
policyd_time_limit".

Should be easy to fix in line 42 in /debian/amavisd-new-postfix.postinst

[Bug 793318] Re: Should confirm package conflicts from the user as apturl can silently uninstall vital packages like network-manager

what it's stuffing into the system.

small program.

+ On the opposite, Ubuntu is telling you package by package, file by file, with
exact byte size what it is installing.

Windows, has become just as bad.

[Bug 989793] Re: [nouveaufb, efifb] blank screen on startup, "Visual is FB_VISUAL_TRUECOLOR; not using graphics"

2012-05-08 Thread Steve Langasek
It's very unlikely that the kernel could be tricked into thinking
there's EFI when there isn't. And Dell were early adopters of EFI. I
think this is a genuine bug in the efi->nouveaufb hand-off.

Can you run the 'sudo fbset -i' command mentioned in my previous mail so
we can see what it says about your video card?

Tormod,

Thank you so much. Your solution is exactly what I needed. Glxgears now

am doing.

Is there something I need to do to close this bug, or mark it as solved?

[Bug 996501] Re: Keyboard not working in lenovo s-10 3c

2012-05-08 Thread Dmitry Ogorodnikov
Instruction is:
1. Find this bug for previous versions.
2. Read the discussion.
Shortly, you should call Lenovo support and ask for new BIOS (call, I said,
don't download it from site). Follow update instruction shipped with BIOS, and
keyboard will work without any ubuntu-related actions.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-08 Thread Johan Lejonborn
This bug seems to affect me as well. Ubuntu 12.04 64bit, Nvidia 295.40.

Screen freezes and the cursor stops moving. Also experienced a black screen
followed by a forced reebot.
Other operating systems on the computer works fine.
