[Bug 927288] Re: Xorg crash with qt4 apps using nvidia drivers
Yay! Hussam's fix saved me too! Thanks a bunch! My system: Ubuntu 12.04 64bit GeForce 210 with nvidia-current-updates, dualhead with TwinView There was a lot of confusion with a similar bug that was fixed by not using Xinerama. After activating the raid array, and selecting it, it tells me the mount failed. It looks like rescue mode has no cryptsetup support at all, but it isn't trying to activate the raid member by mistake, and blkid and cryptsetup isLuks do not think the raid members are luks volumes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/531240 Title: silently breaking raid: root raid_members opened as luks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/531240/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 671240] Re: ath9k locks kernel in 10 ms, causing e g audio dropout
This is still a problem running ubuntustudio 12.04 on a netbook. As of may 2012. I am using an Acer aspire one model KAV60. If I boot with network-manager disabled (in /etc/init mv network- manager.conf to *.fnoc) even though the ath9k module is loaded there are no xruns with jack set to -p 128 (lowest this HW supports). With Network-manager enabled, I get one xrun/minute with the wireless running. If I turn the wireless card off either with the wireless switch or with the netman applet, I get an xrun every 5 seconds. I tried: sudo stop network-manager I still get an xrun every 5 seconds. nothing I can do with the wpa_cli command seems to help either. Finally I tried: sudo modprobe -r ath9k That worked, but no wireless :-( (of course) The irq thread for ath9k has a priority of 50 while the irq thread for the sound IF is at 85. ath9k is on irq 16, snd_hda_intel is on irq 45 ath9k shares irq16 with ehci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb2, i915 but snd_hda_intel is on irq 45 alone. While it is a pain, I do have a workaround by removing the kernel module while doing low latency work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/671240 Title: ath9k locks kernel in 10 ms, causing e g audio dropout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/671240/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998143] Re: em28xx incorrectly sets Terratec Grabster AV350MX resulting in no sound -Workaround
The problem with finding a package for an error in the kernel is that the "Choose" option always finds too many options and refuses to give you any . So how can I find a suitable package? ** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu) ** Description changed: The em28xx module is used with a lot of TV and video hardware, and is needed also for the video grabber Terratec Grabster AV350MX. However, with this external, USB connected device the wrong settings are applied, allowing only a (good quality) video picture, but no sound at all. Applying the workaround results in both good picture and good sound. The Terratec Grabster AV350MX (lsusb: 0ccd:0084) has a cheaper sister grabber Terratec Grabby (0ccd:0096) with the same hardware chip Empia EM2860. In the kernel driver file em28xx.h the former is card#68, while the latter is card#67. Using Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit, kernel 3.2.0-24 correctly recognizes the AV350MX, and loads some modules, but then has no sound using mplayer (commands below) , vlc, arecord. Apply these workaround steps to reload em28xx with the settings for the sister card. Thereafter dmesg incorrectly identifies the card as Terratec Grabby, but sound now works in addition to picture: - (insert Grabster and leave inserted) - - sudo rm em28xx + - sudo rmmod em28xx - sudo modprobe em28xx card=67 Now enjoy video with sound with (PAL video, video on /dev/video0, sound on alsa hw:1,0): mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=720:height=576:outfmt=uyvy:device=/dev/video0:input=0:fps=25:alsa:amode=1:forcechan=2:audiorate=48000:adevice=plughw.1,0:forceaudio:immediatemode=0 -ao sdl, alsa or record to file with (1 minute of uncompressed video/sound): mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=720:height=576:device=/dev/video0:input=0:fps=25:alsa:amode=1:forcechan=2:audiorate=48000:adevice=plughw.1,0:forceaudio:immediatemode=0 -oac copy -ovc copy -o myvideofile -endpos 00:01:00 I verified that the error still exists in kernel 3.4.0-rc6. [Bug 908109] Re: Oneiric 64-bit installer Grub no HDD boot Lenovo B570
During the installation process, Ubuntu installs the EFI bootloader instead of the regular PC bootloader. This results in a system that is broken in one of the following ways, depending on the configuration of your system: * Boots to windows as if Ubuntu wasn't there (even though it completed installation) * Fails to boot after completed installation Workaround: This should successfully complete the installation process, through a series of manual commands. * Boot from CD/USB live image * Connect to the network * Click on the ubuntu partition you previously installed to, so that it is open in nautilus. * right-click on this partition in nautilus (it's in the list on the left), and click 'properties' * copy the name of the mount, and replace "" below with that text. It will probably be something like "563451BD58A19D16" * execute a terminal, and type the following commands. If any give you an error, stop, and send me a message (don't post here for further support): cd "/media/" sudo mount -o bind /proc proc sudo mount -o bind /sys sys sudo mount -o bind /dev dev chroot ./ apt-get update apt-get install -y grub-pc exit sudo umount proc sudo umount sys sudo umount dev sudo sync sudo shutdown -r now ..at this point, the system should reboot, and give you the choice between Ubuntu and Windows (or just Ubuntu, depending on your install). ** Summary changed: - Oneiric 64-bit installer Grub no HDD boot Lenovo B570 + [Oneiric Precise] 64-bit installer incorrectly detects EFI instead of MBR for Grub, boot fails, Lenovo B570 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/908109 Title: [Oneiric Precise] 64-bit installer incorrectly detects EFI instead of MBR for Grub, boot fails, Lenovo B570 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/908109/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 998329] [NEW] Since I have updated to the latest version of Ubuntu 12.04 my system crashes whenever I use Firefox or Chrome.
Public bug reported: Since I have updated to the latest version of Ubuntu 12.04 my system crashes whenever I use Firefox or Chrome. I am unable to pinpoint any particular action that causes this crash. I let the system try to recover on its own, but it never does. When I am surfing the web the entire system will simply lockup and the cooling fans will go to full RPM's. I am able to move the mouse on the screen, but it doesn't do anything and at this point I need to hard-boot. I have used other programs and the lock-up does not occur. It only happens when using the browsers. I know this probably isn't enough information to properly diagnose my problem. Let me know what else would help. I'm a bit of a novice. Thanks. This has happened 5 times in the course of trying to file this bug report. Ugh... Right, and the usual procedure in these sort of circumstances is to wait until upstream releases a version with the patch included, then when you push the package update for Ubuntu for that version you can just add (LP: {this bug number}) to the changelog and this'll be autoclosed. [Bug 978678] Re: Starcraft II crashes before login in 12.04 (regression from 11.10)
Upstream believes it's an Ubuntu-specific problem, as it's due to an underlying kernel breakage and the "fix" is a workaround to the kernel bug.
