New cups-filters does NOT fix the problem. Images are still degraded when printing via acroread, but not degraded using lpr. (Tested cups-filters 1.0.18-0ubuntu0.1 and acroread 9.4.7-1oneiric1 on Xubuntu 12.04) This isn't very surprising, since the old cups-filters did not show the problem either when using lpr.The evidence STRONGLY points to something in acroread specifically, since both acroread and lpr presumably use the same CUPS printing back-end. ** Description changed: - Certain images are substantially degraded when printing. + Certain images are substantially degraded when printing via acroread + (but not degraded when using lpr). [Bug 940743] Re: CVE-2012-0879
** Description changed: - With CLONE_IO, copy_io() increments both ioc->refcount and - ioc->nr_tasks. However exit_io_context() only decrements ioc->refcount - if ioc->nr_tasks reaches 0. With CLONE_IO, parent's - io_context->nr_tasks is incremented, but never decremented whenever - copy_process() fails afterwards, which prevents exit_io_context() from - calling IO schedulers exit functions. An unprivileged local user could - use these flaws cause denial of service. + The I/O implementation for block devices in the Linux kernel before + 2.6.33 does not properly handle the CLONE_IO feature, which allows local + users to cause a denial of service (I/O instability) by starting + multiple processes that share an I/O context. [Bug 1003595] Re: resolvconf 1.63ubuntu14 upgrade error: /etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything
It's not a bug, resolvconf is just letting you know that it won't update the file as it's not a symlink, nothing wrong there. I might agree that showing "Error" might be a bit excessive and that we might want to replace that by "Warning". The problem, if we can consider it to be one is that one of the cloud image tools is replacing the /etc/resolv.conf symlink by a static file instead of updating /etc/network/interface with the DNS information. That's certainly allowed and is the right way of disabling resolvconf, but I don't think it's a good idea for the official Ubuntu images to do that, we should instead make sure the cloud scripts use the right resolvconf hook to provide their configuration. ** Changed in: ubuntu-on-ec2 Status: New => Invalid ** Changed in: connman Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003595 Title: resolvconf 1.63ubuntu14 upgrade error: /etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/connman/+bug/1003595/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003602] Re: Re-inserted MMC not reconized after removel.
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.4kernel[1] (Not a kernel in the daily directory). Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag(Only that one tag, please leave the other tags). This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". [Bug 1003595] [NEW] resolvconf 1.63ubuntu14 upgrade error: /etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything
Public bug reported: Three days ago I lauched an EC2 Ubuntu Precise micro instance on Amazon Web Service. AMI: ubuntu/images/ebs/ubuntu- precise-12.04-i386-server-20120424 (ami-e7e8d393) This is my very first server experience so I'm going slow and reading and observing the system. During this three days I didn't install any new packages other than appyling four batches of updates. Some of them were security updates, some were not; some were kernel updates, some were not. My var/log/apt/history.log is attached. As a result: # uname -a Linux [some-internal-IP] 3.2.0-24-virtual #38-Ubuntu SMP Tue May 1 17:00:51 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux If it might be useful: # ls -l /etc/resolv.conf -r--r--r-- 1 root root 91 May 23 09:59 /etc/resolv.conf # cat /etc/resolv.conf domain eu-west-1.compute.internal search eu-west-1.compute.internal nameserver 172.16.0.23 I didn't do any configuration to the default system of any kind by myself. Up till now I just play with the basic commands such as whoami, top, ls, cd etc. and to observe the update/upgrade processes. As you can see from the attached file, my fourh and last upgrade is from resolvconf 1.63ubuntu11 to resolvconf 1.63ubuntu14 and the upgrade resulted with the error: "resolvconf: Error: /etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything." What I get from connection up to that error is attached. I searched some on the Web and figured out that issues having something to do with the error "/etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything" is being experienced for Ubuntu for years. The causes for all of them might not be the same but seems thet have to have something in common. I'm not an expert on such things. Some places on the Web for such discussions: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1193585 , http://askubuntu.com/questions/137037/network-manager-not-populating- resolv-conf , http://eric-b.net/?p=71 . There are discussions on Lauchpad as well: Bug #922677 is an example. Bug #324233 (with 3 duplicates) sounds more alarming with what Thomas Hood (jdthood) wrote on 2011-12-03 at the end of his long comment with a patch: "Who am I? I am one of the maintainers of resolvconf in Debian. I would prefer to leave this work up to Ubuntu folks, but these issues have been left unresolved for years. Something has to be done." On a server installation such as EC2, with no extra package installed other than offical updates, with no personal configuration -all being the defaults- a bug known for years, for such a critical component for a server -again- surfaces up. Does it make sense? I'm not adding any more files, not adding the files the original reporter had attched as well because I don't know what you need. If you'll ask me for more files outputs, I can send them. I don't suppose so but if this a very interesting, atypical situation calling for deep investigation, I can give the control of the EC2 instance for some time to a friend with reputation dealing with such issues. The instance is free of charge for 1 year and includes nothing except its default being. I can terminate it and launch a new one any time. Until I hear something from you here, I won't do anything, any update or so to that system for 2-3 days. ıf I can not hear something soon maybe I'll terminate it and can't answer probable questions anymore. Regards. PS: On the system in question, I can already view Web pages via w3m, if it means something in some way. ** Affects: connman Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-on-ec2 Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003595 Title: resolvconf 1.63ubuntu14 upgrade error: /etc/resolv.conf isn't a symlink, not doing anything To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/connman/+bug/1003595/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003592] [NEW] terminal keeps crashing
Public bug reported: I had a terminal open and it suddenly crashed. Now it keeps crashing every time I open a new one. It either crashes immediately at opening, or after a few seconds. Sometimes it crashes and closes immediately (I can see the error appear for an instant, see below), other times it shows the error message and stays open. Hopefully this will be fixed after reboot. Here's the error message it shows: bash: ../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/../fork.c:212: __libc_fork: Assertion `({ __typeof (({ struct pthread *__self; asm ("movl %%gs:%c1,%0" : "=r" (__self) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, header.self))); __self;})->tid) __value; if (sizeof (__value) == 1) asm volatile ("movb %%gs:%P2,%b0" : "=q" (__value) : "0" (0), "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid))); else if (sizeof (__value) == 4) asm volatile ("movl %%gs:%P1,%0" : "=r" (__value) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid))); else { if (sizeof (__value) != 8) abort (); asm volatile ("movl %%gs:%P1,%%eax\n\t" "movl %%gs:%P2,%%edx" : "=A" (__value) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid)), "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid) + 4)); } __value; }) == ppid' failed. bash: ../nptl/sysdeps/unix/sysv/linux/i386/../fork.c:212: __libc_fork: Assertion `({ __typeof (({ struct pthread *__self; asm ("movl %%gs:%c1,%0" : "=r" (__self) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, header.self))); __self;})->tid) __value; if (sizeof (__value) == 1) asm volatile ("movb %%gs:%P2,%b0" : "=q" (__value) : "0" (0), "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid))); else if (sizeof (__value) == 4) asm volatile ("movl %%gs:%P1,%0" : "=r" (__value) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid))); else { if (sizeof (__value) != 8) abort (); asm volatile ("movl %%gs:%P1,%%eax\n\t" "movl %%gs:%P2,%%edx" : "=A" (__value) : "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid)), "i" (__builtin_offsetof (struct pthread, tid) + 4)); } __value; }) == ppid' failed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003592 Title: terminal keeps crashing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1003592/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1003593] [NEW] The DHCP service in libvirt needs much more configurability
Public bug reported: I really wish there were a way to break out of the XML "jail" and provide arbitrary command line options to the DHCP server (dnsmasq) used for the virtual networking in libvirt. Failing that, I would love to see some XML-based way to add arbitrary DHCP options to the DHCP response packet. The various RFCs provide a vast array of options that can be configured to be delivered to clients and all DHCP servers support these either directly or using a simple set of encoding rules. Unfortunately, none of that is exposed in the libvirt XML. If THAT is not acceptable, then can we get direct support for at least the most common DHCP options: PXE boot options DNS servers DNS search domains NTP servers NIS servers NIS domain SMTP servers POP server The DNS and NTP ones are, in particular, serious no-brainers IMO. However there are many more options which are less commonly used--but that doesn't mean never. Things like printer servers, web servers, etc. You can see http://linux.die.net/man/5/dhcp-options and/or various RFCs for DHCP for a more complete list. ** Affects: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003593 Title: The DHCP service in libvirt needs much more configurability To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/+bug/1003593/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1003590] [NEW] evolution will not connect to my ISP o2.co.uk or its mail servers
Public bug reported: Under Ubuntu 11.10, serially upgraded from the original 9.04, I could use Evolution to access my email accounts at o2.co.uk and virgin.net without any problems. I have carried out a fresh install of 12.04 and Evolution will not connect to mail.o2.co.uk or relay.o2broadband.co.uk instead returning an error; ERR[AUTH] invalid user or password. This is despite the settings being exactly the same as worked successfully under 11.10 . The same is happening if I use Thunderbird as well. o2 say they do not support Linux or MAC and will put no time into solving any issue, but they do say they have not recently changed anything in their systems. I can access webmail pages with no problem, but it is more convenient to use a mail client, and at the moment nothing works. [Bug 170049] Re: Inverted ruler co-ordinate system
I'm with ~suv about 1.quadrant coordinate system being quite handy. I don't understand why the SVG spec didn't include an option to invert the Y-Axis. Sure you can use a scale 1,-1 for the root viewport but then the text will be drawn upside down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/170049 Title: Inverted ruler co-ordinate system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/170049/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 863358] Re: Can't easily use Ubuntu without using Ubuntu Mono
mpt: Comment #5 (which also set "Needs Information") requests clarification upon whether this bug should focus on remedying (a) or (b), or something else. The original report is: I find the Ubuntu font fairly attractive. [Opinion] On the other hand, I find the Ubuntu Mono font unpleasant [Needs more detail about why it is unpleasant] and likely to slow down my work. [Opinion] I understand it is a matter of personal taste, [Fact] but the reasons should be obvious from the attached image. [Guesswork required; appears to be Launchpad] On popular operating systems, [Guesswork required; Mac OSX?] it is easy to use one font but not another, even if they are related. [Factual statement, I think] I suggest that this be possible on Ubuntu with the Ubuntu fonts too. [A recommendation; of which Comment #5 asks for clarification in narrowing down exactly the recommendation should be attached to; it is possible to set the keys on Ubuntu independently at a low level; and it would be possible…] Probably the simplest way of implementing this would be to package them separately. [Recommendation, …to do this] For this is solely about generating multiple .debs from the source tarball; how should those be split for maximum useful (proportional in one, monos in another). Or common weights and less common weights; should Ubuntu Condensed be separate or with the main proportionals; should Light/Medium be included with those or packaged separately aswell). All of these are /technically/ possible, but guidance would still be welcomed. IMHO, this would be "Needs Information", but I'm happy to leave the status as New if that is likely to be better understood. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863358 Title: Can't easily use Ubuntu without using Ubuntu Mono To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/+bug/863358/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995185] Re: Multimedia keys are disabled
Mohammed, sorry I took so long to move on this after our discussion on IRC. My earlier research on your behalf indicates this is a regression since earlier releases of Ubuntu have supported the multimedia keys on the Satellite M-100. I'm assigning this issue to myself and will log my findings about what support should be there, which version added it and if there is any reason for the regression. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => In Progress ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => TJ (intuitivenipple) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995185 Title: Multimedia keys are disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/995185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
