[Bug 1022660] Re: Cannot see recent pictures on my Library
Hi Clint, after your comment I did some investigation. First of all I can confirm I have no filter applied on my library. After some test I found that the problem with missing pictures on my library is a picture ordering problem (should we change the title of the bug?) In fact I noticed that last imported pictures are at the bottom of the library while these pictures should be at top (I have pictures ordered by date, desc). So the situation now (I can always reproduce this) is: My library starts with a picture from 15 Jul 2012 and I have all the pictures well ordered until 3 Sept 2004 After these pictures I have some pictures with no date at all (don't ask me why :) ) then 6 videos imported from an iPhone with date 1 Jan 1904 (unix date I think) and then I have my last imported pictures (the missing ones) from 31 Jul 2012 and (strange again) a lot of videos from 2012, 2011 and 2010 (ordered). Some more info. If I press F8 while watching my library and then I click the Video type button filter for 2 times, then the library become well ordered. If I press F8 and then click 2 times Pictures type button filter the library remains unordered (same if I press raw type button) So the hint to have my library well ordered is to press the Video button filter 2 times. One more problem: after this action pictures with date 1 Jan 1904 are displayed before pictures with date 31 Jul 2012 and this is wrong. Hope this help, I can add more info if you ask me. [Bug 989800] Re: Error alert stops appearing for the same crash after a while
We need the rate limiting for system processes, especially those which restart themselves automatically. Without this, the user would potentially get infinitely many apport dialogs. In theory we can check whether it is an application which has a .desktop file, but this check is very expensive (it needs to happen at the time of the crash, not at the time when the user says "report this"). So we might need to resort to some heuristics instead (looking at uid, $DISPLAY, etc.). Also, we should keep the property of not updating a crash report if the current one hasn't been shown by the UI yet, as a first line of defense. ** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: apport (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989800 Title: Error alert stops appearing for the same crash after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/989800/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1035261] Re: Port compiz to gsettings and consequently remove unity-2d
** Description changed: Porting compiz and so unity to gsettings has a lot of consequences: - compiz: * build with gsettings support * add migration scripts - unity : * gconf -> gsettings patches (2) * rebuild with the new gsettings compiz * add transitional packages for all unity-2d packages * add migration scripts + - nux: + * remove the X11 Xsession.d detection script - gnome-control-center: * should be ported in both the keyboard part by reverting the gsettings revert patch * in the unity background configuration panels to support gsettings * in the display configuration panels to support gsettings - gnome-settings-daemon to drop the gsettings revert patch: - metacity should be updated to >> 2.34.2 (gsettings integration, shared with compiz). Sync back with debian, demote to universe -> this forces us to drop a lot of patches to make unity-2d running - consequently, dropping unity-2d because of metacity patches won't be ported, and unity-2d isn't maintained to port from gconf to gsettings:. Removal from the archive - lightdm to transition people from unity-2d to unity-3d session - unity-greeter to drop hardware detection capability for nux - gnome-session to drop the unity-2d session and recommends - release-upgrader in precise to detect if the card can't run unity-3d, and if so, show a warning to tell to stay on the LTS - ubuntu-desktop seed to remove dep on unity-2d People forcing the upgrade or installing on a machine without hardware acceleration will then use unity with llvmpipe. ** Also affects: nux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1035261 Title: Port compiz to gsettings and consequently remove unity-2d To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1035261/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1036965] [NEW] Apport silently fails to file bug reports
Public bug reported: I've had lots of problems since installing 12.04, but managed to work around most of them and install fixes whenever they were finally released. It probably would have sped things up a great deal however, if apport had been there to help me. Unfortunately it hasn't about 80% of the time. Apport often pops up to ask me about a "system error" of one kind or another, and if I'd like to file a bug report. Most often I say yes, leave the box checked and click continue. Apport gets through the "gathering information" phase, and asks for final confirmation to send the report, while informing me that I will be taken to launchpad to provide further details. I never get taken to launchpad. The bug report is never filed. The gathered info is probably lost. This is happening MOST OF THE TIME with bugs caught by apport. On at least one occasion I was able to find the bundle of info apport collected wherein I discovered that reporting the bug had been cancelled for some reason. 1. I would REALLY like to be informed when my bug report will be denied and WHY. 2. Apport should never refuse to file a bug report, ever. That is extremely discouraging to helpless users who are experiencing real problems when the computer says "Sorry, no I just won't help you." which is exactly what apport is saying when it won't file a bug. At the very least apport should lead the user through steps to get the bug ready for reporting or to find an already reported bug like what they are experiencing. I have noticed a disturbing trend in Launchpad to dismiss inconvienient bugs. This is a rather inconvenient bug, as fixing it may mean a lot of new bug reports. It also means more satisfied users. Do not let this bug suffer the fate of bug 178398 or bug 313436. Both bugs closed for lack of information and lack of response from the reporter. Whoever reported those bugs probably gave up on Ubuntu and went elswhere. This is not an invalid or unimportant bug. It is a real bug, and it is critical. [Bug 930447] Re: Unable to start Ubuntu 12.04 live CD with syslinux loader on Pentium M x86 Laptop due to bug in PAE kernel, initramfs or syslinux
I must agree with Jeff on #132. I have been using Ubuntu since (I think) 6.04 I have current generation hardware without the PAE issue. I faithfully upgraded with each release, and worked hard to work around the NVidia garbage for old KVM switches that do not allow the driver to see the hardware. 12.04 has been the first release that has consistently frozen, which seems related to the amount of video displayed. OK I thought, This has had to many generations of upgrade. Time to start clean. I downloaded the 64 bit live disk. IT WOULD NOT BOOT! (Did it multiple times with multiple systems always doing the checksums) So I have a system that runs on 12.04 (and freezes) and I can not do a clean install. So I tried Fidora 19 (heritic) and it seems just fine. hummm what to do? [Bug 584687] Re: A "pause installation" or "save list" should be added
My suggestions and user cases: 1). Pause installation. Sometimes the network is slow so i could pause installation and resume the task later. 2).Cancel an ongoing installation and roll back. I can cancel a slow installation process without breaking anything. 3). Parallel downloading. Download multiple apps simultaneously and automatically assign a higher priority to the fastest one. This can help to save lots of time for me and ease my pain for endlessly waiting. 4).Show real-time downloading speed and percentage of task completion. [Bug 1036946] Re: pulseaudio leaks memory, system heavily swapping
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected precise ** Description changed: I was listening to a web radio with mplayer. I had directed the sound output with pavucontrol to another PC (direct connection, not via RTP). I then started to play a song with amarok (Version 2.5 with phonon- backend-gstreamer) over the internal sound card. Everything was fine until I switched amarok's output to the other PC (via pavuntrol). All sound stopped immediately and the system began to swap. I saw pulseaudio consume ~70% of my memory (of 4 GB). Killing pulseaudio made the system responsive again. [Bug 1036946] [NEW] pulseaudio leaks memory, system heavily swapping
Public bug reported: I was listening to a web radio with mplayer. [Bug 954565] Re: Applications bleed or move into adjacent workspaces...
The bleeding seems to occur when a window is close to one of the workspace edges. Since the default seems to be to snap to an edge, the window first has to be moved and it tends to eb sticky (need to do two actions if want to move it horizontally and vertically away from an edge. It does not seem to occur to windows that have been maximised. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/954565 Title: Applications bleed or move into adjacent workspaces... [Bug 1036944] [NEW] Spreading workspaces with multiple monitors displays wrong
Public bug reported: I attached an external monitor to my laptop. The configuration is to span the monitors (no mirror): left monitor: 1680x1050 right monitor: 1920x1200 they are aligned so the top edges match I spread the workspaces (Super+S) and the display seems wrong. All of the workspaces (for both monitors) appear on the left monitor, and about 80% of the workspaces appear on the right monitor. See attached image. I expected either a split (50/50) or duplication (100% on both). Note that when I changed the right monitor's resolution to 1680x1050, spreading now does a 50/50 split (as expected?).
