[Bug 168164] Re: font sizes specified in pixels instead of points

2012-08-17 Thread ScislaC
John: Any thoughts on this preference? It allows things to work "as
expected" and allows power users to hit grand slams (when they
choose)...

I have a Intel i5 (1st gen) processor and ATI Radeon 5400 series
graphics card. I have noticed that it keeps logging me off when I start
skype.. not sure if that's relevant. Just wondering if that's the case
with anyone else

Jimmy reports that this is no longer of an issue.

Osprey, can you check if this is still an issue with the latest updates
on a guest session of Unity? It's highly probable this has been fixed
since the report was made.

When I first wake the computer, or boot the computer, wireless attempts
to connect about 15-20 times before finally connecting.

Once connected, speed and latency vary randomly, but mostly on the
slow/high side respectively.

When I test my connection speed with a site like speedtest.net, I'll
usually get full speed for about 1/2 a sec , then it goes to zero for
awhile, then comes back on at full speed a second later or so.

With windows, connected to the same router, none of these problems
occur.

I'm using a fresh installation of 12.04.

[Bug 1038371] [NEW] disabling in-kernel support should be optional

2012-08-17 Thread Joel Ebel
Public bug reported:

I have an Antec case with an iMon knob device, as well as a serial port
IR receiver. The knob produces events, so I don't need lirc for it. I
also use the imon device for lcdproc. I run lirc, solely to communicate
with the serial IR device. The current lirc init script attempts to
modify the imon device in /sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols. This is
unnecessary, as I don't intend to use that device with lirc, and
furthermore, for reasons unknown, it occasionally causes the computer to
fail to shut down. I don't particularly care why echoing "none" to
/sys/class/rc/rc0/protocols hangs occasionally, because it isn't an
operation that needs to be done at all on my system. I can edit the
init script to prevent this happening, but I'd much prefer for there to
be an option in /etc/lirc/hardware.conf to prevent in-kernel support
from being disabled while i run lirc, and re-enabled when I stop it.

Attached is a patch with a suggested method.

** Affects: lirc (Ubuntu)

[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 ->12.04)

Hi,

 Austin Dempewolff wrote:

I assume you tested full readability afterwards.

That cdrskin command is supposed to do quite the same with libburn
as Brasero does. One difference is the end padding of 300 KB,
which Brasero omits. No padding with TAO might cause read-errors
at the very end of the medium. This is known as Linux read-ahead-bug
but it does not match your problem descrption.

Did you eject and re-load the CDs which were burned with Brasero,
before you tried to read them ?
The Linux block device driver does not necessarily know that
the SG_IO driver wrote new data to the CD. So it can be that
only parts of the new data get visible and old cached data
stay visible, until you eject. Re-loading the medium then
forces the block device driver to re-assess the medium content.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

This happened again for me (when I was using Firefox), and switching to

help. (Thanks for the hint!)

Each time I switch back to X, a message in the log appears:

It looks absolutely OK, no explanation for the cause of the error.

[Bug 1038356] [NEW] version contains epoch

2012-08-17 Thread Gaurav Kumar
Public bug reported:

As you can see here- https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/oneiric/amd64/libdns69
the version field contains epoch value. Other packages do not contain
epoch value. This breaks OVAL definition
http://oval.mitre.org/repository/data/getDef?id=oval:org.mitre.oval:def:15365

To be able to automatically generate OVAL definition, I think it is
important that packages follow a consistent version nomenclature

area is also grayed out even though I am connected. Also noticed that my

[Bug 1025553] Re: Plugin fails to load in Chrome

2012-08-17 Thread Eliah Kagan
The recently committed package fixes the bug for me on my Oneiric amd64
system.

icedtea-6-plugin/icedtea-netx 1.2-2ubuntu0.11.10.3
chromium-browser 18.0.1025.168~r134367-0ubuntu0.11.10.1
Tested with http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp.

I used the debs from https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-
proposed/+archive/ppa/+build/3725266 since the binary packages aren't
available from oneiric-proposed yet (at least via the US mirror).

[Bug 222779] Re: XGalaga: Key pad and sound do not function on latest version of Hardy Heron

2012-08-17 Thread chipschap
As noted above you can get sound with padsp but it sometimes lags. I
rewrote the sound daemon to use pulse audio and that works fine. It's
kind of hack code, and works only on pulse audio, so I haven't submitted
patches (and not sure I know how either!), but if anyone wants either
the source or precompiled binaries just write to xgal...@bobnewell.net
and I'm happy to send it along.

I don't know about the keypad problem, I haven't seen it.

I also fixed an issue in the stock Ubuntu that overscans in full-screen
(at least on my desktop system). Again, I didn't submit a patch because
it's a real hack job.

[Bug 1024482] Re: Mouse cursor theme does not change from default after login

2012-08-17 Thread Jason Conti
I should also note that setting the cursor explicitly to the LEFT_PTR in
any gtk app will cause that app to show cursor updates properly when
hovered over (which is why I think Firefox still works when you hover
over it as mentioned in bug #86184 ):

#include
#include

int
main()
{
  gtk_init(NULL, NULL);

  GdkCursor *default_cursor = gdk_cursor_new(GDK_ARROW);

  GtkWidget *window = gtk_window_new(GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL);
  g_signal_connect(G_OBJECT(window), "destroy", gtk_main_quit, NULL);
  gtk_widget_realize(window);
  gtk_widget_show(window);

  gdk_window_set_cursor(gtk_widget_get_window(window), default_cursor);
  g_object_unref(default_cursor);

  gtk_main();
  return 0;
}

And we can force a cursor update by setting the LEFT_PTR on the root
window (but this will also break future cursor updates if you had logged
in with gdm or lightdm-gtk-greeter with the patch above):

#include
#include

gboolean idle_cb(gpointer user_data)
{
  gtk_main_quit();
  return FALSE;
}

int main()
{
  gtk_init (NULL, NULL);

  GdkCursor *cursor = gdk_cursor_new (GDK_LEFT_PTR);
  gdk_window_set_cursor (gdk_get_default_root_window (), cursor);
  g_object_unref (cursor);

  g_idle_add (idle_cb, NULL);

  gtk_main ();
  return 0;
}
