[Bug 1039390] [NEW] kickstart install: package oem-config seems to halt grub-pc setup

2012-08-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

During install using kickstart: when including oem-config in the

question regarding grub-pc configuration [1][2].

Removing oem-config all together or installing it with "apt-get -y

[Bug 975793] Re: 'aptitude safe-upgrade -d -y' enters infinite loop

2012-08-20 Thread Daniel Hartwig
** Description changed:

- When executing thoses commands, aptitude loops infinitely :
+ [Impact]

- aptitude clean && aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade -d -y
+ Users of aptitude can not download updates in advance with the
+ intention of installing them later. One common use case is using
+ apt-cron to download all available updates at night then reviewing
+ and installing a subset of them later.
+
+ The problem does not occur for all users, but can be traced to a
+ point where the download/install logic invokes dpkg even though it
+ is supposed to only download packages.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Wait for package updates to be available:
+
+   # aptitude clean && aptitude update
+ […]
+ Current status: 6 updates [+6].
+
+ * Fetch the updates using -d (download only) and observe that
+ after the download, aptitude loops (appears stuck) without
+ ever exiting:
+
+ # aptitude safe-upgrade -d -y
+ […]
+ Get: 5 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise/main insserv i386
1.14.0-2.1ubuntu2 [50.1 kB]
+ Get: 6 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise/main iproute i386
2017-1ubuntu2 [441 kB]
+ Fetched 3574 kB in 0s (9562 kB/s)
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Small.
+
+ * Small patch touching only one file.
+
+ * Some of the updated logic can be checked against similar code
+ in apt/cmndline/apt-get.cc(InstallPackages).
+
+ * Fixed in Debian sid since May with no regressions reported.

[Bug 1028640] Re: session-installer crashed with TypeError in _on_property_changed(): could not convert type dbus.Array to PyObject required for parameter 0

2012-08-20 Thread Martin Pitt
This is a really tricky one. sessioninstaller/core.py imports both "gst"
(which pulls in the static gobject binding) as well as a lot of GI
modules, so crashes will happen in all kinds of cases :-(

As Steve says, it seems to have worked better when aptdaemon used the
static gobject module as well; this is no guarantee to work, but might
be an appropriate workaround until we finally get gstreamer 1.0 (which
is introspectable).

[Bug 824708] Re: aptitude can no longer show changelogs: "Changelog download failed: Download queue destroyed." Please merge the fixed version, 0.6.8, from Debian.

2012-08-20 Thread Daniel Hartwig
The patch from upstream commit eb9f6c2.

** Patch added: "download-big-files.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptitude/+bug/824708/+attachment/3269989/+files/download-big-files.patch

** Description changed:

- After update of aptitude (0.6.4-1ubuntu2) and apt (0.8.16~exp5ubuntu4)
- - aptitude can't download/view changelogs of packages.
+ Aptitude (<< 0.6.8) can't download/view package changelogs with
+ libapt-pkg (>= 0.8.16~exp3). This affects both the command line
+ interface and the interactive (ncurses) interface.

- aptitude FAIL
+ Viewing a packages changelog is a significant part of deciding which
+ updates to apply. Although the changelogs can still be viewed using
+ apt-get, it is a great inconvenience to no longer be able to do this
+ from aptitude's interactive interface.

- # aptitude changelog python-apt-common
- Err Changelog of python-apt-common
- E: Changelog download failed: Download queue destroyed.
- E: Couldn't find a changelog for python-apt-common
+ [Test Case]

- apt-get OK
- WORKAROUND:
- Use apt-get changelog
+ * An unrelated issue in aptitude requires deb-src lines to fetch
+ changelogs from the command line. Ensure the system has some valid
+ deb-src lines:

- # apt-get changelog python-apt
- Get:1 Changelog for python-apt
(http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/p/python-apt/python-apt_0.8.0ubuntu7/changelog)
 [109 kB]
- Fetched 109 kB in 0s (370 kB/s)
+ $ sudo echo "deb-src http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise main" >>
/etc/apt/sources.list
+ $ sudo apt-get update
+ […]
+
+ * Choose a package, say python-apt, and verify the changelog is
+ available with apt-get:
+
+ $ apt-get changelog python-apt
+ Get:1 Changelog for python-apt
(http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/p/python-apt/python-apt_0.8.0ubuntu7/changelog)
 [109 kB]
+ Fetched 109 kB in 0s (370 kB/s)
+
+ * Attempt to fetch the same changelog using aptitude:
+
+ $ aptitude changelog python-apt
+ Err Changelog of python-apt
+ E: Changelog download failed: Download queue destroyed.
+ E: Couldn't find a changelog for python-apt
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Small.
+
+ * Moderate size patch which is mostly trivial updates of types to
+ unsigned long long as used in libapt-pkg.
+
+ * The updated module is only used to acquire changelogs[1], so any
+ regression is likely to be limited to interacting with changelogs.
+
+ * Fixed in Debian sid since July with no regressions reported.
+
+ [1] The module is also used to acquire screenshots by the experimental
+ GTK+ interface which is no longer developed and was never
+ considered supported by upstream.

[Bug 1028640] Re: session-installer crashed with TypeError in _on_property_changed(): could not convert type dbus.Array to PyObject required for parameter 0

2012-08-20 Thread Steve Langasek
According to ,
the crash first appeared on July 23; so this may be correlated with
aptdaemon 0.45+bzr848-0ubuntu1 (uploaded July 24 according to the
changelog):

  * New upstream snapshot:
- aptdaemon/client.py: Prefer GI GObject module. (LP: #1026066)

Martin, do you know what needs to happen here? It looks like perhaps
aptdaemon isn't compatible with the python2 version of
gi.repository.GObject, which sessioninstaller is using.

Maybe this needs to be replaced with a try: import [...] except: import
[...]?

** Changed in: sessioninstaller (Ubuntu Quantal)
Assignee: (unassigned) => Martin Pitt (pitti)

** Package changed: sessioninstaller (Ubuntu Quantal) => aptdaemon
(Ubuntu Quantal)

[Bug 168164] Re: font sizes specified in pixels instead of points

2012-08-20 Thread John Smith
Further commit to trunk r11616
* Add an option to "always output in px" (default is off)
* Size of preview text in Font dialog should (better) match the canvas at 100%
(previously we used px instead of pt)

So the current state is :

a) Inkscape uses px and 72dpi for all text transforms/calculations etc
internally
b) Users can choose their preferred unit "for display" in the UI (default is
points). These units are basically converted to and form px "on the fly" as
needed.
c) Users can choose to output to file in preferred unit (b) or always px
(default is users preferred unit)

Questions :
1. Should "always output in px" be default on ?
2. Would it make sense to have dpi configurable per document ?
3. Whats the best way to make viewBox more easily useable ?

[Bug 1028640] Re: session-installer crashed with TypeError in _on_property_changed(): could not convert type dbus.Array to PyObject required for parameter 0

2012-08-20 Thread Steve Langasek
Marking as 'high' because this is the single most frequent crash
reported in 12.10 right now.

Was going to mark this for SRU as well, but it looks like there isn't
actually any evidence of this crash occurring with 12.04; so it's
probably an aptdaemon behavior change (as the backtrace somewhat
suggests), and not a bug in sessioninstaller at all.

Re: [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-20 Thread Romuald C.
@Hector, did you update Xorg after installing the driver? It might have
replaced some libraries that the nVidia driver relies on. Try a sanity
check with the .sh driver package and the --sanity flag. It might fix
things for you.

[Bug 926676] Re: False result after special character input

2012-08-20 Thread Robert Ancell
Bugs should be set to fix committed when the fix has been committed
somewhere. Triaged means it hasn't been worked on. In this case the bug
is solved, but it is not in Ubuntu (it will be set to fix released when
that occurs).

[Bug 1039358] [NEW] nautilus-share / usershare cannot be used to make samba shares

2012-08-20 Thread quequotion
Public bug reported:

This is how the process should work:

1. Try to share a folder in nautilus.
2. Nautilus will ask permission to install samba and usershare dependencies.
3. Approve and install software
4. Folder is shared and available in the samba network.

This is what is happening.

1. Try to share a folder in nautilus.
2. Nautilus asks permission to install samba and useshare dependencies.
3. Approve and install software (occasionally this step fails due to an
unrelated bug in apt, wherein all packages suddenly become "unsigned"; this
step may also fail due to broken packages which try to overwrite each other,
have broken install scripts, or are unavailable--in which case it may fail
silently)
4. Everything falls apart. Sometimes usershare makes an error about changing a
username i was never asked to supply into some kind of code, which seems to
have been a bug that was fixed ages ago (or maybe not). Sometimes everything
looks fine, but the folder isn't shared or available on the samba network; in
fact most of the time my computer doesn't appear in the network at all, let
alone its shares.

There are several workarounds available, but this needs to work out of
the box.

This change is not needed for multiarch because the package does not use
dh(1) for building - it passes --libdir in debian/rules instead. It's
best to not include this change in an SRU - and easier than verifying
that there are no other behavior changes.

This doesn't look like a very correct way to implement a debugging package.
Debugging packages should normally contain only the detached symbols, where
this seems to be including a complete .so?

[Bug 1000498] Re: fmod() incorrectly returns NaN for (some?) denormalized inputs

2012-08-20 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment "fix_lp1000498_quantal.debdiff" of this bug report has
been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. The ubuntu-
sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can
review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that this is in
fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing the tag
'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that it is not
flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the ubuntu-
sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug report.

[Bug 1035628] Re: [SRU Regression] Alt+Tab loses brings other window to the front but loses focus entirely.

2012-08-20 Thread androith
Can anybody else confirm this is not present in Quantal? It's a
difficult-to-reproduce bug, and I'd hate to see it back when I upgrade.
I think that this was introduced with the latest Unity patch which
messed with ALT-TAB (a different bug was solved, where ALT-TAB switcher
sometimes failed to appear), since I didn't notice it before the latest
update and now I notice it all the time.

The last working example was ubuntu 12.04 stable.

Oh, actually the "install ubuntu" screen for 12.10 never worked before. I
was referring "before" to the precise release. Sorry about not being
specific.
