[Bug 1042907] Re: LightDM doesn't handle Lock Screen or Switch Session for GNOME Shell 3.5
I'm not going to provide this interface in LightDM due to: - All other DMs will have the same problem - The interface is GDM specific - (as I understand it) It allows a session process to run PAM calls remotely to authenticate. This is questionable security and opposes the design we have in LightDM for the login screen to be the lock screen. - The interface is not trivial So the solution as I see it is we will have to patch gnome-shell to handle not running inside GDM. The options are probably. 1. Not entering lock screen if the GDM interface is not present. This means no lock screen but is logical (no point locking if you know you can't unlock). 2. If the GDM interface is not present then falling back to the old gnome-screensaver method of unlocking. This means running the PAM calls yourself to authenticate. You can't authenticate as anyone but yourself and it's always been a bit of a hack (PAM generally assumes root access, the modules handle running as non-root for this case specifically). ** Also affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Status: New => Won't Fix ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: New => Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042907 Title: LightDM doesn't handle Lock Screen or Switch Session for GNOME Shell 3.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1042907/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1043102] [NEW] The screen doesn't refresh properly
Public bug reported: The screen doesn't refresh properly. When I type in the terminal and I press the up or down arrow keys, the commands don't get refreshed. I have to move the cursor over the command or press on the title bar or something else for it to refresh. Even in windows which have tabs. Turns out it is possible [2], but there are two post- installation steps which are not obvious and should be fixed. Creating partitions with gparted and building a RAID with mdadm on the live system works well. Ubiquity detects the devices and you can partition /dev/md0 and install on it just fine. The trouble starts because you need to install mdadm into the target system, for which I ran the following steps: * mount /dev/md0p1 /target, chroot /target * apt-get install mdadm; that fails because /etc/resolv.conf is empty (yay resolvconf), so exit chroot, apt-get download mdadm, copy to /target/tmp, chroot again, dpkg -i * that fails because it cannot access /dev etc, so back out of the chroot, bind-mount /dev/, back into the chroot, dpkg --configure -a, get scared by the warnings about not being able to load MD suppport (turns out they are harmless) It would be nice if Ubiquity could install mdadm into the target system together with its other setup if any of the target partitions is /dev/md*. [Bug 24061] Re: GPG error with apt-get/aptitude/update-manager behind proxy (BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5)
The proposed workaround does not work if the connection is still being intercepted and returning invalid responses. It addresses point 2 of comment #70, but not the other four causes. I suggest that a challenge-response mechanism could help to detect intercepting proxies and provide better feedback to the user. Any feedback on the idea would be appreciated. When a BADSIG error occurs 1. Send a random string to a specific Ubuntu Web service. 2. Calculate a hash of the same string. 3. Compare the server response to the calculated hash. If a non-error response is received without the hash occuring anywhere in the response, the connection has been intercepted. 4. If it has been determined that the connection is being intercepted, the user can be alerted of the potential reason for the BADSIG error. If using a gui tool, the user can be guided to determine if the problem is an authentication issue (by opening a page in a browser) and given the opportunity to cancel the update or confirm the cause of the problem and retry. 5. If the same, or very similar response is received in future, we can discard the response and abort and optionally remind the user of the previous cause of the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24061 Title: GPG error with apt-get/aptitude/update-manager behind proxy (BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/24061/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1043096] [NEW] Use UUID for root file systems on /dev/md*
Public bug reported: As part of the ongoing discussion about dropping alternates [1] I wanted to find out whether it's currently possible at all to install on a RAID with Ubiquity. Turns out it is possible [2], but there are two post- installation steps which are not obvious and should be fixed. Creating partitions with gparted and building a RAID with mdadm on the live system works well. Ubiquity detects the devices and you can partition /dev/md0 and install on it just fine. The trouble starts because you need to install mdadm into the target system, which is covered in bug 1043094. After that, booting fails because the generated grub configuration hardcodes /dev/md0p1, but initramfs/kernel create it as /dev/md127p1. It would be nice if grub/Ubiquity used UUIDs for the root partition as usual; in the initramfs /dev/disks/by-uuid/... exists just fine. After that, the installed system boots perfectly. [Bug 1043093] [NEW] Scratch display doesn't work correctly on AC100.
Public bug reported: Hi, I installed Scratch on Toshiba AC100 (1.4.0.6~dfsg1-2~ubuntu12.04.1 on armhf/precise) and all went fine. When I launched it, everything was well displayed but after moving to another window (a terminal window) and then coming back to Scratch, the display wasn't correctly updated. I removed (apt-get purge) Scratch from my laptop, then reinstalled it the same way, Scratch doesn't appear correctly any more. I know that Scratch is not part of the main Ubuntu distribution (precise-backports) but my 8-year-old son likes it and I think this is an interesting software for the young generation. [Bug 1042041] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values
After this morning's login, it's back. It set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences auto-raise true to true again, although I never set that. Yesterday I "reset" the key, so that it was definitively not in my ~/.config/dconf/. It also set the maximize/unmaximize keys back from my custom Super+Up/Down to the default: org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings maximize ['Up'] org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings unmaximize ['Down'] I checked in dconf-editor, the keys are set in ~/.config/dconf, they did not get reset to the default. Finally it keeps deleting my keybinding for org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings lower ['disabled'] when I set it back to Alt+B (for the umpteenth time) in control, center, this is how it should be: org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings lower ['b'] Please note that the schema default is [], not ['disabled'], so once again it invents this "disabled" value or gets it from another migration source. Where are these values copied or generated from at startup? I might have some other settings somewhere which did not affect compiz versions prior to 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1, but now keep messing up my settings. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042041 Title: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1042041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1043077] [NEW] upstart restarts DM to quickly
Public bug reported: I am filing this against upstart since it seems to affect both lightdm and gdm. Basically, if I run: sudo service lightdm restart then it will fail with an "X Server already on display 0" message (in gdm logs) It appears that upstart is respawning the DM before the current X session has shutdown completely. If I instead do sudo service lightdm stop sudo service lightdm start it works perfectly. This is 100% reproducible on my 12.10 VM and happens around 1:5 times on my 12.10 installation on real machine. ** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I am filing this against upstart since it seems to affect both lightdm and gdm. [Bug 489830] Re: Settings of gpointing-device-settings are non-persistent
A fix without using gpointing-device-settings: First, type "xinput" in terminal. It will list your input devices. You should see something like this: ⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ Genius Optical Mouseid=8[slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Button id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=9[slave keyboard (3)] In my case, Genius Optical Mouse is my mouse, its id is 8. Then, type "xinput list-props | grep "Evdev Middle Button". You will get something like this: Evdev Middle Button Emulation (259):0 Evdev Middle Button Timeout (260): 50 The id in my case, the id of "Evdev Middle Button Emulation" is 256 Then, type "xinput set-int-prop 8 1" In my case, I should type "xinput set-int-prop 8 259 8 1" BONUS: you can set the timeout with "xinput set-int-prop 32 " If it works, then add "xinput set-int-prop 8 1" to your session startup application.
