[Bug 1050216] Re: button-layout should default to Ubuntu's default button layout
Mirv | anyone trying out compiz 0.9.8.2 will bump into this bug | https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gsettings-desktop-schemas/+bug/1050216 ubot5 | Ubuntu bug 1050216 in gsettings-desktop-schemas (Ubuntu) button-layout should default to Ubuntu's default button | layout [Undecided,New] Mirv | can be fixed manually by gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout 'close, minimize, maximize' didrocks | Mirv: the default is 'close, minimize, maximize:' didrocks | what did you test exactly? Mirv | didrocks: ah, should be : in the end? didrocks | Mirv: yeah, but that's the default Mirv | didrocks: it's not after gtk-window-decorator starts using gsettings and the default from gsettings-desktop.schemas Mirv | so if one upgrades to 0.9.8.2 from eg. ppa:timo-jyrinki/compiz-withoutgconf then buttons are on the right side didrocks | Mirv: are you sure you had the default set? Mirv | didrocks: what do you mean, where? the buttons are on the right side also in guest session. didrocks | Mirv: I think your bug is different, the default is already close, minimize, maximize: Mirv | didrocks: it's not in the schema file of gsettins-desktop-schemas didrocks | so maybe compiz is not reading the real value didrocks | Mirv: because it doesn't work like that, we don't sed the schemas didrocks | we have overrides files didrocks | try this: didrocks | gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout didrocks | gsettings get org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences button-layout didrocks | what do you get? Mirv | didrocks: no, it does not look so didrocks | Mirv: so, this is your bug, you need to have ubuntu-default-settings installed didrocks | it's a dep of ubuntu-desktop metapackage Mirv | didrocks: ah.. suddenly things start to make sense. at some point I've lost ubuntu-desktop. marking bug as invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050216 Title: button-layout should default to Ubuntu's default button layout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gsettings-desktop-schemas/+bug/1050216/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1050237] [NEW] No wallpaper and windows leave trails, if ubuntu-default-settings overrides are not available
Public bug reported: I first erronously reported another bug #1050216 when the actual problem was that ubuntu-default-settings was not installed, since at some point I had had both it and the ubuntu-desktop meta-package removed. However, not having the setting overrides from ubuntu-default-settings installed results in highly broken guest or a new user session. [Bug 1050237] Re: No wallpaper and windows leave trails, if ubuntu-default-settings overrides are not available
From the discussion on IRC: - nautilus upstream is not drawing the desktop (gnome-shell is doing it for itself) - we do have an override in ubuntu-default-settings to ask nautilus to draw the desktop Consequently, without it, you won't have anything to refresh the background, which seems broken but it the normal behavior. However, we can't force that for everyone as it will break other sessions for no good reason and the ubuntu-default-settings is installed by default on ubuntu (and so people don't get this bug). If you want to ensure that compiz is grabbing it (or maybe unity), we can maybe make unity dep on this configuration, but that's still incorrect IMHO. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050237 Title: No wallpaper and windows leave trails, if ubuntu-default-settings overrides are not available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1050237/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1050240] [NEW] aptitude install PATTERN without ~r installs conflicting packages for all architectures
Public bug reported: Already reported in Debian; placing here as it impacts all Ubuntu releases which multi-arch support. [Impact] Running aptitude install (or remove, etc.) with pattern arguments selects all architectures and will typically result in conflicts. In contrast, apt-get only selects a single architecture (the most preferred) for each package. Of course, one can insert appropriate ?architecture (~r) terms to restrict the set, but this is counter-intuitive in the typical use-case of installing a package for a single architecture only, and becomes unwieldy with more complex queries. The default command line behaviour could be adjusted, such that pattern arguments behaive similar to regex arguments with apt-get. The apt-get behaviour is most natural. For comparison, consider the use of search patterns that select versions – the versions are ignored, only the package is important, and the user must select the desired version with “=VERSION” or “/ARCHIVE” (which is also apt-get syntax). See http://bugs.debian.org/656944. [Test Case] * Enable multi-arch with at least two architectures, then update your package lists. * Find an uninstalled package, available on multiple architectures, which is preferably Multi-Arch: none or foreign. This bug still applies to Multi-Arch: same packages (it is still unnatural to automatically install both by default) but less severe since they will not conflict. $ apt-cache policy tf:* tf:amd64: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:4.0s1-17 Version table: 1:4.0s1-17 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/debian/debian/ sid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status tf: Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:4.0s1-17 Version table: 1:4.0s1-17 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/debian/debian/ sid/main i386 Packages * Install that package using an aptitude search pattern (?exact-name or ?name is good) and observe that both architectures are installed, resulting in conflicts. $ aptitude install -s '?name(^tf$)' The following NEW packages will be installed: libgpm2:amd64{a} libncurses5:amd64{a} libtinfo5:amd64{a} tf{b} tf:amd64{b} zlib1g:amd64{a} The following packages will be upgraded: libncurses5 libtinfo5 zlib1g The following packages are RECOMMENDED but will NOT be installed: libgpm2 3 packages upgraded, 6 newly installed, 0 to remove and 179 not upgraded. [Bug 1050243] [NEW] unable to retype login details on lightdm with userlist disabled
Public bug reported: Its impossible to retype the login details if a mistake during login on lightdm with userlist disabled. I noticed this problem on Xubuntu 12.04. This bug can be reproduced always. I noticed it while trying to setup a laptop image for my institute. We disabled the userlist for lightdm for security purpose so that users would have to manually type in their username. I noticed that if I made a mistake while typing the user credentials (whether in the password or username) the lightdm gives me the username/password incorrect error but it does not provide me the username dialog box so that I can start all over again. What I get instead is a message that asks me to retype the password (which should not be the case because sometimes the mistake was in the username not the password) When this happens the best way to login is either to switch to console mode and restart lightdm, or to reboot the computer completely. I think this is a major bug which will affect many people who use Ubuntu (or in my case xubuntu) in enterprise. [Bug 1050243] Re: unable to retype login details on lightdm with userlist disabled
Just want to add that if I typed the right username and only make a mistake in typing the password. The lightdm greeter gives an incorrect password message and continues to give this error until the right password is given. I think this is a serious security flaw. A username should be part of the security of a user, hence it is not ideal for the login manager to give any intruder an idea that the right username has been entered. The normal way is to give a username or password may be incorrect error message and then reset the login screen to allow the user re-enter the login details. I have added an image to better explain the issue ** Attachment added: screenshot https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1050243/+attachment/3311940/+files/IMG_20120913_084825.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050243 Title: unable to retype login details on lightdm with userlist disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1050243/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

comments about the post #135 above: finally found that mess was due to grub-customizer that i've had used in the past and purged everywhere; but sadly it left some modified settings behind. But thanks to boot-repair to cleanly removed that garbage and cleanly reinstalled grub 2.0 working smootly now, except that the menu still does not appear at the beginning (blackscreen for about 5 to 10 seconds, then the menu is shown) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420933 Title: Current grub-pc takes several minutes to show menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/420933/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1050261] [NEW] Can't change filename pattern of gnome-screenshot
Public bug reported: In older versions gnome-screenshot just created files named like screenshot-1.png which was fine. But in newer versions it is always named with a long pattern that even includes the time and therefore a : on my system. This makes it impossible to upload the image to several hosts without manually renaming it. So i was looking to change the filename pattern which seams to be impossible without compiling my own version. I would strongly suggest to allow the user to define an own pattern or to avoid any format that includes the : character. ** Affects: gnome-utils (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1050261 Title: Can't change filename pattern of gnome-screenshot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-utils/+bug/1050261/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
