[Bug 1038373] Re: 8086:0887 Intel Centrino 2230 card doesn't connect, and has extremely high latency when connected

2012-10-08 Thread Israel Vaughn
Actually, it is still here. I noticed something different today,
perhaps the compat-wireless workaround was conflated.

Ping times are fine, when AC (mains) power is plugged in. When I'm on
battery is when the ping times go up to 500+ms.

I'm usually plugged in, so I perhaps thought that the compat-wireless
fixed it.

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

actually fixed it. Is this a regression?

[Bug 1064209] [NEW] GUI does not allow removing of multiple 'required' entries (eg uid).

2012-10-08 Thread PaulSchulz
Public bug reported:

For a user, there were two 'uid' entries in their uo=people record.
These were displayed under the 'User Name' entry.

The web interface didn't allow either of these to be removed or edited (an '*'
was shown on right margin).
One was the uid of the ldap record (the username) the other entry was a related
username (username2).

(The duplicate record was able to be removed from the command line with
ldapvi.)

The 'flags' on the User Name field were: alias, required, rdn

[Bug 1064205] [NEW] feature request on ppa-name bash-completion

2012-10-08 Thread funicorn
Public bug reported:

I hope ppa-purge could introduce bash-completion for ppa names. I don't
know others, but for me it's badly inconvenient. For many times have I
input the wrong name, for many times have I googled to confirm the right
name, and for many times have I input a correct name and wait for long
only to find out the ppa has been disabled in the sources.list. Hence it
would be necessary to introduce bash-completion to auto fill the name
form.

Here is a basic bash-completion example for listing the 'meta' names
located in /etc/apt/sources.list.d and triggering completion prompt
based on user input. For example, if user(me) input something like
'xorg', it gives 'xorg-edgers-ppa-quantal'. Hence he(me) can guess the
right name is 'xorg-edgers/ppa'. And by the way the disabled ppa lists
are screened out before this completion.

--
# /usr/share/bash-completion/completions/ppa-purge
# Debian ppa-purge(1) completion -*-
shell-script -*-

_ppa_purge(){
local cur
_init_completion || return

local list=( $( find /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ -name "*.list" -exec
basename {} \; | command sed 's/\.list$//g' 2> /dev/null ) )
local i=0
local wc=${#list[@]}
while [[ $i -lt $wc ]]
do
if ! grep -Ev ^#
"/etc/apt/sources.list.d/${list[$i]}.list" >/dev/null; then
unset list[$i]
fi
let i++
done

COMPREPLY=( $( compgen -W '${list[@]}' -- "$cur" ) )

return 0
} &&
complete -F _ppa_purge ppa-purge
--

Note It cannot work directly since it has to include the arguments used
as 'prefix', which however is quite straightforward to work around. And
the reply message could be sourced from the .list file instead of the
filename and further divided into ppa name and team name , which is
quite straightforward too. It's also an option to designate a separate
argument for ppa-purge to include this completion feature.

[Bug 1060760] Re: Hot plug and unplug causes system hangs

2012-10-08 Thread Chun-Hung Chen
apport-collect 1060760 can't be run on this machine. I will collect some
log files if needed. Besides, I have tried installed the kernel v3.6.1
and the Intel C600 driver is v1.1.0. Retry the scenario with a disk
unplugged then plugged again. Boom, shows different error messages and
kernel panic in this time.

[Bug 1057093] Re: Installing nvidia-current should blacklist gfxpayload

2012-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
This change has been applied in quantal and as a direct result has made
boot splash unusable for all users when the nvidia drivers are installed
(bug #1063969). This is not something that should have been changed
during freeze due to a vague concern that the driver "does not interact
well".

[Bug 1063969] Re: No Plymouth Splash on Latitude E6420

2012-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
The plymouth splash doesn't display because according to the information
attached to your bug report, it has no framebuffer to display it on.
This is a direct result of a recent change to the nvidia-graphics-

normal use of numlock, but it respawned and still consumes 150% cpu.

[Bug 1061639] Re: Upstartification of /etc/init.d/networking has lost deconfiguring-networking event causing bad side-effects

2012-10-08 Thread dino99
On last shutdown in verbose mode, i've seen one more issue:

During the last part of the shutdown process, a comment is written and says:
- trying to retrieve the remaining processes
- then, strangely, modemmanager is restarted and load its dozen drivers (got a
modemmanager daily update "0.6.0.0.really-0ubuntu1). I've already seen randomly
that drivers reload on shutdown in the past.
- and get : mount / is busy

With the next reboot, the booted partition has broken inodes:

oem@dub:~$ dmesg | grep orphan
[8.812542] EXT4-fs (sdb5): orphan cleanup on readonly fs
[8.819511] EXT4-fs (sdb5): ext4_orphan_cleanup: deleting unreferenced inode
400809
[8.819581] EXT4-fs (sdb5): 1 orphan inode deleted

[Bug 247819] Re: Ricoh R5C822 SDHC Card reader I/O errors

2012-10-08 Thread Pitermann, Michel
I tried many times with most options the commands "ubuntu-bug linux" or
"apport-bug linux" or with "linux-generic" or "linux-
image-3.2.0-31-generic" which are installed packages, but the command
always aborts saying:

  The problem cannot be reported:

This is not an official LinuxMint package. Please remove any third
party package and try again.

  Press any key to continue...

No pending crash reports. Try --help for more information.

Using "--save" option did not help. It seems a Linux Mint bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/1014786). I clicked the
"affects me" button of the bug 1014786. Should I try with a Ubuntu
12.04 Live version?

[Bug 986208] Re: Compiz does not remember user preferences upon system restart

2012-10-08 Thread SivArt
I had the same issue on 12.04, I was able to fix the scale windows
problem with the steps on comment #3, however, the Show desktop is not
working after a restart, I then installed 12.10 and the show desktop
issue persists, is it going to be a permanent fix in near future?
Thanks!

[Bug 1062754] Re: plymouth does not ask for password for crytsetup disks - after upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10

2012-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
This is a low priority to fix because there was never a need for an
fstab entry for /dev/shm: the system would always mount it
automatically. So very few users will be affected.

[Bug 1064192] [NEW] [update request] nvidia-173.14.36 has been made fit for XServer 1.13

2012-10-08 Thread Flames_in_Paradise
Public bug reported:

New stable 173-driver was released on 2012.10.04:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-ia32-173.14.36-driver.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-173.14.36-driver.html

Additional information is information is at hand on the linked pages in
the drivers documentation.

 * Added support for xserver ABI 13 (xorg-server 1.13)

So there woudln't be as many complaints as on the last release...
if this could be included for the final-release of Quantal 12.10.

This regards also to nvidia-common (?)

nvidia-settings

Thanks for the great support to help making Ubuntu better every day.

[Bug 969343] Re: Unable to connect to WPA enterprise wireless

2012-10-08 Thread Neo
Hi,

I saw a lot of people still having the connection issues after applying
this updates. I don't know if this is caused by a combination of using
Dell XPS 13 + Aruba AP.

I have filed a bug 1019081 to track this issue, so please speak up there
if you are seeing the same problem. I assume this is causing the failed
connection:

"wlan0: Wrong control channel in association response: configured
center-freq: 5200 hti-cfreq: 5805 hti->control_chan: 161 band: 1.
Disabling HT."

Updating to mainline kernel "http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/daily/current/linux-
headers-3.6.0-999-generic_3.6.0-999.201210080405_amd64.deb", I am able
to connect to my AP through WPA2 Enterprise.

Thanks,
Neo

[Bug 1012257] Re: Firefox 13 takes control over the mouse pointer when bookmarks are dragged on xubuntu 12.04

2012-10-08 Thread Ray T
this problem seems to still occur, I have not run linux for long and i
have only noticed this randomly in the last month.

Problem = "A" Window grabs control of the mouse and does not let go, can
still move the mouse but no interaction with any part of the screen.

This has happened on a Dell Latitude D505 and on a Fujitsu base unit,
both running Xubuntu 12.04.

I seem to be able to replicate the error by quickly and continuosly maximising
and restoring the window by clicking in the windows title bar itself.
This will work with Firefox 15.0.1 and with Thunar 1.2.3 but does not seem to
work on the Terminal 0.4.8. (dont know if Terminal cannot trigger the error for
some reason, but more qualified people will have to judge)

I can only get out of it by getting to a terminal window using + +
F1, and typing "killall -u .
Then logging back in.

fix. If it's there but I missed it, please point it out.

I've been using Precise since it was released and have been hoping that
this bug would be fixed through an update. No luck. I now am actively
looking, but it seems like there is not fix. This obviously affects a
lot of people. What can we do to speed a fix?

[Bug 1064117] Re: Extremly poor compression for .tar.bz2

2012-10-08 Thread pqwoerituytrueiwoq
seems it does compress it just sets a min size (sounds really dumb for a
compression app to do)

from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2065402#4 :
here file-roller is 'compressing' but will never go below 10.2kB
So - a folder with a number of small files
  43.6kB goes to 10.6kB
  34kB goes to 10.2kB
  15kB goes to 10.2kB
  1.5kB goes UP to 10.2kB

Re: [Bug 955876] Re: Possible have wrong values in Metacity gconf/gsettings keys

2012-10-08 Thread Attila Hammer
Hy,

This bug random time happening with Ubuntu 12.04.1 too, affected desktop
environments is GNOME3 fallback session, Unity 2d session. Both two
desktop environments I experienced this issue. If this bug happening,
impossible to use common keybindings (ALT+F4, ALT+TAB, etc) until I not
deleting entire .gconf/apps/metacity folder, not logout and login back.
Lot of users wrote this problem with Ubuntu Accessibility and Orca
mailing lists, some time happening this bug after a fresh installation.

If an user not known what folder need erasing when experiencing this
bug, he impossible to use he's system with keyboard. Visualy impaired
users only possible to use he's system with keyboard navigation.

Fortunately in Quantal already not existing this issue, I newer
experienced this issue, so only Precise affected.

I think the bug related with following Metacity changes with Precise,
but I am not full sure this:
   * debian/metacity-common.gconf-defaults:
 - change the shortcuts as per design request: (LP: #969235)
Ctrl + Super + D Minimises all windows
Ctrl + Super + Cursor up Maximises the current window
Ctrl + Super + Cursor down Restores or minimises current window
This patch released in Metacity 1:2.34.1-1ubuntu10 version.

Another possibility:
   * debian/patches/101_override_gconf_settings.patch:
 - gives a way to override gconf settings by a keyfile. This is
useful in case of late fallback (after the logging manager)
   (LP: #791205)
This patch released in Metacity 1:2.34.1-1ubuntu2 version.

If have possibility, please fix this bug in Metacity.
Temporary I change this bug status with high.

Attila
