[Bug 1011792] Re: Kernel lockup running 3.0.0 and 3.2.0 on multiple EC2 instance types
I would be very surprised if there was anything Ubuntu specific in the autogroup area. The whole kernel source is mainly what is upstream. There are a few additional drivers, but really only a couple and I don't think they get used here. One thing might be noteworthy, if 3.5.6-1-arch translates into based on upstream stable 3.5.6, this is one stable version ahead of what is in Quantal (we currently stopped at 3.5.5 in order to settle for release, after that we will pick up .6 and .7 which is in the pipe). One option then might be a fix that came with 3.5.6 (which has a possibility to be in the upstream stable pipe for 3.2). On some experiment I did, I tried to get a better feeling about the relation between VCPUs and the problem. Given it being a race, results probably need to be looked at carefully. But it seemed that with 2 and 4 VCPUs, there seemed no isses. With 8 the problem was seen. If the guess about 3.5.6 possibly fixing this would be true, this could be verified by installing mainline kernels into the instance. With the install base being 12.04 (Precise) this should be as simple as installing the packages and rebooting. The mainline kernels can be found at: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ Those package are build from the unmodified upstream sources with just the ubuntu config applied (The -quantal for example means the config was taken from Quantal). So v3.5.5-quantal would show the problem and v3.5.6-qunatal should be ok. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011792 Title: Kernel lockup running 3.0.0 and 3.2.0 on multiple EC2 instance types To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1011792/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Maybe resetting the BIOS to default values mught re-instate normal behaviour for a period. I'm not in a position to try it right now. [Bug 1034108] Re: Lubuntu, won't take system password, always prompts for keyring
I just solved my problem. There is option to unlock keyring at log-in after all. 1. Log-in to lubuntu. 2. When password dialog shows up, there is this Details button. Press the button to view some more options. 3. Dialog contans now option Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm locked in. This adds unlocking password to login. keyring and gnome-keyring handles automatically unlocking of other keyring when needed. This can be done also through Passwords and Keys program that manages keyrings. Right click the keyring you want to unlock and password dialog opens. Or if keyring is already unlocked, it must be first locked and then unlocked. If the option Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm locked in is grayed out, the login keyring is locked and it must be unlocked first e.g. through Passwords and Keys program. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1034108 Title: Lubuntu, won't take system password, always prompts for keyring To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntuone-client/+bug/1034108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly
The OS kernel log all the events. The first time also the LID (that generally need 10 sec to trigger the status change when work) is logged almost instantly. I can have log in dmesg and acpid. 2012/10/12 Erik Schindler erik.schind...@gmx.net I can confirm you that if you push the reset button on bottom of the laptop with a needle (laptop unpowered, than use the power cord to start it otherwhise will not start) the next boot all the ACPI events are logged perfectly; all is run wanderfully untill some events that screw up again the ACPI/BIOS stuff. Is the installed OS affected by this workaround or only BIOS configuration? -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/971061 Title: acpi reports battery state incorrectly Status in “acpi” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a new Samsung 9-series laptop (NP900X3B) and the battery state is detected incorrectly. Basically the state what was at the time of boot stays active all the time - regardless of the ac-adapter state. Here is output from acpitool -a -b in various situations: When booted with charger connected and charger is still connected: Battery #1 : charging, 47.00%, 01:00:43 AC adapter : on-line When booted with charger connected and charger is now disconnected: Battery #1 : charging, 47.00%, 01:36:59 AC adapter : off-line [The battery couldn't possibly be charging when the AC adapter is offline!] When booted with charger disconnected and charger is still disconnected: Battery #1 : discharging, 47.00%, 01:39:44 AC adapter : off-line When booted with charger disconnected and charger is now connected: Battery #1 : discharging, 47.00%, 00:53:43 AC adapter : on-line [The battery is actually charging as the AC adapter is online] The percentage and time are correctly updated when the battery is actually charging or discharging - regardless of the reported state. So the state is the only thing that is incorrect. However a number of applications make their decisions based on this state (battery monitor, jupiter, etc.) and therefore behave incorrectly. lshal -m doesn't report anything when I plug the charger in or out. [Bug 1065878] [NEW] It is extremely hard to give ubuntu some love (money)
Public bug reported: This bug actually consits of two parts: On the one side it is quite hard to just donate small amounts of money. I like Ubuntu. I use it every day. I want to donate! But how? Finally there is a donate option at the download page, but it still is too hidden. Searching for donate on the webpage (ubuntu.com) brings up nothing. There could a big donate button on the front page. There could be a flattr (http://flattr.com) button which allows lots of users to just give some cents. Now you can at least start a new download (which I did not need) in order to donate. Asking users for money is ok I think, I use their effort for free. I want to pay as long as I can afford it. Which brings me to part II of the issue. In our small little company we have here, we have dozens of virtual ubuntu instances. All could be manged by landscape, could buy some support. We would pay for that. The problem is only the pricing. Paying 100 USD for a workstation and 320 USD for a server is way to much for a company like ours. So we end up doing it ourselves. Which actually is lot cheaper. The problem here is, that Ubuntu gets nothing. I think it is a good start to let users select to topic (by using the donation sliders) they spend their money on. This has to be improved and extended. Let users vote by donation money. Let them put up bounties in launchpad for fixing bugs. There are so many ways ... ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: donate love -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065878 Title: It is extremely hard to give ubuntu some love (money) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1065878/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 990388] Re: acces denied samba printer shares after upgrade precise
Fix as described in askubuntu #7 worked for me. I copy it here for reference with some adaptions, credits go to RobDavenport. == Set up printer shared on a sambe network with authentication == Choose Add new printer in Printing, click open 'Network Printers', select 'Windows Printer via SAMBA' Click 'Browse' to browse for printer (it prompts for authentication to access Windows server with printer) or enter 'smb://sambadomain/servername/printername' e.g. smb://uclv/printers.mycompany.at/a4-e105 Select 'Set authentication details now' Enter details as 'domain\username' and password (if you click 'verify' now it will say printer is not accessible, but click Forward anyway.) Select driver Print test page Just to be clear: I always could print from Ubuntu 11.10, but not from 12.04 Desktop to printers served by a Windows server. If I rename a printer, I get again the authentication error. The above set up worked. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990388 Title: acces denied samba printer shares after upgrade precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/990388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 794112] Re: Kerberos + LDAP + NFSv4 - Unable to recover unattended client
The fix works perfectly. One small issue though: there is no way to add the -e switch except manually in /etc/init/gssd.conf. This is fine for me, because I run cfengine at my site to keep this fix. For other users an option in /etc/default/nfs-common could make sense. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/794112 Title: Kerberos + LDAP + NFSv4 - Unable to recover unattended client To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kerberos/+bug/794112/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1065883] [NEW] ceph rbd username and secret should be configured in nova-compute, not passed from nova-volume/cinder
Public bug reported: I'm testing using ceph RADOS block devices to back nova volumes; however I've hit an issue which limits its usefulness in environments where cephx authentication is required. Configuration is directly taken from http://ceph.com/docs/master/rbd /rbd-openstack/#configuring-cinder-nova-volume. The problem is as follows: The rbd_user and rbd_secret_uuid must be configured in nova-volume to ensure that when the nova-compute nodes attach volumes to instances, they will use the libvirt stored secret. However, the secret UUID when created on each of the compute nodes is going to be different; and nova-compute will try to attach using the secret provided from nova-volume - for which it has no knowledge. I also want to configure nova-compute with a different username to nova- volume/cinder to provide more granular access control to ceph. I've worked around this using this patch/hack: === modified file 'nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py' --- nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py 2012-08-27 15:37:18 + +++ nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py 2012-10-12 08:37:38 + @@ -88,9 +88,11 @@ conf.serial = connection_info.get('serial') netdisk_properties = connection_info['data'] if netdisk_properties.get('auth_enabled'): -conf.auth_username = netdisk_properties['auth_username'] +conf.auth_username = FLAGS.rbd_user or \ + netdisk_properties['auth_username'] conf.auth_secret_type = netdisk_properties['secret_type'] -conf.auth_secret_uuid = netdisk_properties['secret_uuid'] +conf.auth_secret_uuid = FLAGS.rbd_secret_uuid or \ +netdisk_properties['secret_uuid'] return conf Which basically allows me to override the auth_username and auth_secret_uuid through the nova-compute configuration file.
