[Bug 1011792] Re: Kernel lockup running 3.0.0 and 3.2.0 on multiple EC2 instance types

2012-10-12 Thread Stefan Bader
I would be very surprised if there was anything Ubuntu specific in the
autogroup area. The whole kernel source is mainly what is upstream.
There are a few additional drivers, but really only a couple and I don't
think they get used here. One thing might be noteworthy, if 3.5.6-1-arch
translates into based on upstream stable 3.5.6, this is one stable
version ahead of what is in Quantal (we currently stopped at 3.5.5 in
order to settle for release, after that we will pick up .6 and .7 which
is in the pipe). One option then might be a fix that came with 3.5.6
(which has a possibility to be in the upstream stable pipe for 3.2).

On some experiment I did, I tried to get a better feeling about the
relation between VCPUs and the problem. Given it being a race, results
probably need to be looked at carefully. But it seemed that with 2 and 4
VCPUs, there seemed no isses. With 8 the problem was seen.

If the guess about 3.5.6 possibly fixing this would be true, this could
be verified by installing mainline kernels into the instance. With the
install base being 12.04 (Precise) this should be as simple as
installing the packages and rebooting. The mainline kernels can be found
at:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Those package are build from the unmodified upstream sources with just
the ubuntu config applied (The -quantal for example means the config was
taken from Quantal). So v3.5.5-quantal would show the problem and
v3.5.6-qunatal should be ok.

[Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2012-10-12 Thread j0lly
Maybe resetting the BIOS to default values mught re-instate normal
behaviour for a period. I'm not in a position to try it right now.

I can confirm you that if you push the reset button on bottom of the
laptop with a needle (laptop unpowered, than use the power cord to start
it otherwhise will not start) the next boot all the ACPI events are logged
perfectly; all is run wanderfully untill some events that screw up again
the ACPI/BIOS stuff.

I can't track the cause of the corruption right now, but i suspect is
triggered by the suspend itself (maybe when is suspend overnight) i have to
test, but can confirm the trick can solve the problem untill it occur again
(sometimes after few ours, sometimes it last for 3/4 days).

[Bug 1060989] Re: Report isn't sent after clicking Continue while details load

2012-10-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Fixing this might substantially increase the number of error reports
submitted.

So when this bug is fixed, I think the by 12.04 standards and by
12.10 standards lines on errors.ubuntu.com should be drawn as if it
wasn't fixed.

To implement that, Apport would need to rev the submission type version
number on reports that were submitted while the details were loading.

[Bug 1034108] Re: Lubuntu, won't take system password, always prompts for keyring

2012-10-12 Thread Timo Mikkilä
I just solved my problem. There is option to unlock keyring at log-in
after all.

1. Log-in to lubuntu.
2. When password dialog shows up, there is this Details button. Press the
button to view some more options.
3. Dialog contans now option Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm
locked in. This adds unlocking password to login. keyring and gnome-keyring
handles automatically unlocking of other keyring when needed.

This can be done also through Passwords and Keys program that manages
keyrings. Right click the keyring you want to unlock and password dialog
opens. Or if keyring is already unlocked, it must be first locked and
then unlocked.

If the option Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm locked in
is grayed out, the login keyring is locked and it must be unlocked
first e.g. through Passwords and Keys program.

Why do you say it's not supported ?

is it migration problem ?
is it bugs ?

[Bug 1056060] Re: entry missed from menu

2012-10-12 Thread ankspo71
The gufw desktop file located at /usr/share/applications/gufw.desktop has a
line inside it that says
OnlyShowIn=Unity; which prevents it from appearing in other desktops. This
might affect gnome-classic too. I'm using Kubuntu Quantal 64bit and gufw didn't
appear in my KDE menu originally. I had to comment out the OnlyShowIn=Unity;
line to get it to appear.

gksudo gedit /usr/share/applications/gufw.desktop
(Kubuntu users can use kdesudo kate /usr/share/applications/gufw.desktop)

Change the line that says:
OnlyShowIn=Unity;
to this:
# OnlyShowIn=Unity;

Save the file. If gufw does not appear in the menu within in few
seconds, then you would probably need to log out then log back in.

Re: [Bug 971061] Re: acpi reports battery state incorrectly

2012-10-12 Thread j0lly
The OS kernel log all the events.
The first time also the LID (that generally need 10 sec to trigger the
status change when work) is logged almost instantly.
I can have log in dmesg and acpid.

2012/10/12 Erik Schindler erik.schind...@gmx.net

I can confirm you that if you push the reset button on bottom of the
laptop with a needle (laptop unpowered, than use the power cord to start
it otherwhise will not start) the next boot all the ACPI events are
 logged
perfectly; all is run wanderfully untill some events that screw up again
  the ACPI/BIOS stuff.

Is the installed OS affected by this workaround or only BIOS
 configuration?

 Title:
   acpi reports battery state incorrectly

Status in “acpi” package in Ubuntu:
   Confirmed

 Bug description:
I have a new Samsung 9-series laptop (NP900X3B) and the battery state
is detected incorrectly. Basically the state what was at the time of
boot stays active all the time - regardless of the ac-adapter state.

Here is output from acpitool -a -b in various situations:

When booted with charger connected and charger is still connected:
 Battery #1 : charging, 47.00%, 01:00:43
 AC adapter : on-line

When booted with charger connected and charger is now disconnected:
 Battery #1 : charging, 47.00%, 01:36:59
 AC adapter : off-line
[The battery couldn't possibly be charging when the AC adapter is
 offline!]

When booted with charger disconnected and charger is still disconnected:
 Battery #1 : discharging, 47.00%, 01:39:44
 AC adapter : off-line

When booted with charger disconnected and charger is now connected:
 Battery #1 : discharging, 47.00%, 00:53:43
 AC adapter : on-line
[The battery is actually charging as the AC adapter is online]

The percentage and time are correctly updated when the battery is
actually charging or discharging - regardless of the reported state.
So the state is the only thing that is incorrect. However a number of
applications make their decisions based on this state (battery
monitor, jupiter, etc.) and therefore behave incorrectly.

lshal -m doesn't report anything when I plug the charger in or out.

[Bug 1064202] Re: No wireless-n band for Atheros AR9485 b/g/n card

2012-10-12 Thread Andrew Wheelwright
12.10 Beta works (the bit rate is in the n-band range). When I rebooted
back into 12.04, I noticed that I'm getting ~120Mbps which, despite what
the network management applet says, would indicate that it is working.
One of the updates I applied today must have fixed the problem.

[Bug 1049988] Re: Inconsistent presentation of screenshots and video, both should be in the same frame

2012-10-12 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
The screenshot navigation, links, and Buy issues should be separated
out into their own bug reports.

** Description changed:

- Ubuntu Software Center should be more consistent to look awesome for
- every user.
-
- #VIDEO
If you open a package page with embedded video in USC, you'll notice video
looks like it doesn't fit there. Just under the player there is a white frame
and it looks different to embedded images.
I propose this should look the same as embedded image, so it should have the
same border around it.

  #SCREENSHOTS
If you open a package page on the web, you will be able to browse all
available images of the application. On the other hand, USC is limited only to
3 images. There should be at least arrows on the left and right sides of the
preview bar so user would be able to browse all images.

  #Links
I also think email and web links should be different. Now there is no
difference between them (email is labeled as Developer Web Site).

+ Software available for free (even though it is a proprietary thing)
should always be available for download through standard Download
button instead of Buy button. (You don't buy free things).

[Bug 1040996] Re: Not offered Install alongside if other OS isn't Windows or Ubuntu

2012-10-12 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
No, I don't think you are too picky. I do think that test cases are too
verbose. If alongside or re-install options are not offered it usually
means that the installer can't handle it, hence not offering them.

** Package changed: ubiquity (Ubuntu) = partman-auto-lvm (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: partman-auto-lvm (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Medium = Wishlist

** Summary changed:

- Not offered Install alongside if other OS isn't Windows or Ubuntu
+ Resize and reuse options are not offered with full disk LVM installs

[Bug 997248] Re: Inconsistency in decimal point for es_MX and es_NI locale

2012-10-12 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
The attachment fix-decimal-separator-bug-997248.debdiff of this bug
report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff.
The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that
they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. In the event that
this is in fact not a patch you can resolve this situation by removing
the tag 'patch' from the bug report and editing the attachment so that
it is not flagged as a patch. Additionally, if you are member of the
ubuntu-sponsors team please also unsubscribe the team from this bug
report.

Re: [Bug 1064343] Re: system works very slowly

2012-10-12 Thread win22
And I check now, that debian 6 0.5 which working on same PC's quickly
enough, has kernel older, than you mean. It has 2.6.32-5-686.

Are you have any other
idea why can slowly work?

Possible video driver not fit?

Пользователь Luis Henriques luis.henriq...@canonical.com писал:

I was looking into your logs and I can seen lots of errors/warnings
related with your network driver:

[46699.009858] rtl8192c_set_FwPwrMode_cmd(): Mode = 0, SmartPS = 0
[46700.769573] survey done event(2d)
[46702.577247] rtw_set_ps_mode(): Enter 802.11 power save mode...
[46702.577294] rtl8192c_set_FwPwrMode_cmd(): Mode = 1, SmartPS = 2
[46819.009166] rtw_set_ps_mode(): Busy Traffic , Leave 802.11 power save..

These could be the cause of your problem. So, since the kernel you're
using is quite old now, and a lot of changes have been done to your
network device driver since kernel 3.2.0-23.36 (this kernel has been
released in April!), I would suggest an upgrade. Something like:

 $ sudo apt-get update
 $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

[Bug 971051] Re: no alt+tab in gnome classic session

2012-10-12 Thread Mobman02
I have done the gconftool-2 --set and the Settings- Keyboard-
Shortcuts:- Navigation trick.

Then I have launched metacity --replace and I finally have a working
ALT-TAB (oh god, 5 months without such a feature, it's been killing me),
but Metacity does not look the same as my previous Gnome Classic setup
(no more transparency for notifications i.e.).

If someone know the difference between the Gnome Classic and what I now
have after calling metacity --replace, maybe we can move forward and
fix this bug for real. Thx.

[Bug 1065878] [NEW] It is extremely hard to give ubuntu some love (money)

2012-10-12 Thread Jens Reimann
Public bug reported:

This bug actually consits of two parts:

On the one side it is quite hard to just donate small amounts of money.
I like Ubuntu. I use it every day. I want to donate! But how? Finally
there is a donate option at the download page, but it still is too
hidden. Searching for donate on the webpage (ubuntu.com) brings up
nothing. There could a big donate button on the front page. There
could be a flattr (http://flattr.com) button which allows lots of users
to just give some cents. Now you can at least start a new download
(which I did not need) in order to donate. Asking users for money is ok
I think, I use their effort for free. I want to pay as long as I can
afford it.

Which brings me to part II of the issue. In our small little company we
have here, we have dozens of virtual ubuntu instances. All could be
manged by landscape, could buy some support. We would pay for that. The
problem is only the pricing. Paying 100 USD for a workstation and 320
USD for a server is way to much for a company like ours. So we end up
doing it ourselves. Which actually is lot cheaper. The problem here is,
that Ubuntu gets nothing.

I think it is a good start to let users select to topic (by using the
donation sliders) they spend their money on. This has to be improved and
extended. Let users vote by donation money. Let them put up bounties in
launchpad for fixing bugs. There are so many ways ...

[Bug 1065652] Re: unity dash should show legal disclaimer

2012-10-12 Thread Didier Roche
Fixed the above links in #1. Didn't touch that much the rest of the
page.

Checked and changed the official page link on the ubuntu site. A place
holder webpage will be soon created by the webteam (url confirmed and
finale).

As discussed, we can fix the keyboard part as a SRU. It's too
sensitive and regression-risky to add it right now.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-10-12 Thread pierre blarre
This happens to me on a Macbook 3.1 and a Thinkpad t430s.

I don't know if this can be useful, but I found out that it occurs more
often if I use Netbeans, well, if Java is used, so it could be a Java
related problem... ?

[Bug 1065873] Re: crashes in chroot with no HOME set

2012-10-12 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Thanks for your report.

The error handling code is indeed broken, parser is not defined in this scope
in runner/adt-run:
if opts.gnupghome.startswith('~/'):
try: home = os.environ['HOME']
except KeyError:
parser.error(HOME environment variable
 not set, needed for --gnupghome=`%s
% opts.gnupghome)

Well the result would be the same if $HOME is not defined but at least
it would fail nicely

[Bug 1065882] [NEW] Errors with tests/control line 2: unterminated line

2012-10-12 Thread Michael Vogt
Public bug reported:

With the attached debian/tests/control file it errors on first run with

[Bug 990388] Re: acces denied samba printer shares after upgrade precise

2012-10-12 Thread rasos
Fix as described in askubuntu #7 worked for me. I copy it here for
reference with some adaptions, credits go to RobDavenport.

== Set up printer shared on a sambe network with authentication ==

Choose Add new printer in Printing, click open 'Network Printers',
select 'Windows Printer via SAMBA'

Click 'Browse' to browse for printer (it prompts for authentication
to access Windows server with printer)

or enter 'smb://sambadomain/servername/printername' e.g.
smb://uclv/printers.mycompany.at/a4-e105

Select 'Set authentication details now'

Enter details as 'domain\username' and password
(if you click 'verify' now it will say printer is not accessible, but click
Forward anyway.)

Select driver

Print test page

Just to be clear: I always could print from Ubuntu 11.10, but not from 12.04
Desktop to printers served by a Windows server.
If I rename a printer, I get again the authentication error. The above set up
worked.

[Bug 794112] Re: Kerberos + LDAP + NFSv4 - Unable to recover unattended client

2012-10-12 Thread Kjell Braden
The fix works perfectly.

One small issue though: there is no way to add the -e switch except
manually in /etc/init/gssd.conf. This is fine for me, because I run
cfengine at my site to keep this fix. For other users an option in
/etc/default/nfs-common could make sense.

[Bug 1065883] [NEW] ceph rbd username and secret should be configured in nova-compute, not passed from nova-volume/cinder

2012-10-12 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

I'm testing using ceph RADOS block devices to back nova volumes; however
I've hit an issue which limits its usefulness in environments where
cephx authentication is required.

Configuration is directly taken from http://ceph.com/docs/master/rbd
/rbd-openstack/#configuring-cinder-nova-volume.

The problem is as follows:

The rbd_user and rbd_secret_uuid must be configured in nova-volume to
ensure that when the nova-compute nodes attach volumes to instances,
they will use the libvirt stored secret.

However, the secret UUID when created on each of the compute nodes is
going to be different; and nova-compute will try to attach using the
secret provided from nova-volume - for which it has no knowledge.

I also want to configure nova-compute with a different username to nova-
volume/cinder to provide more granular access control to ceph.

I've worked around this using this patch/hack:

=== modified file 'nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py'
--- nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py 2012-08-27 15:37:18 +
+++ nova/virt/libvirt/volume.py 2012-10-12 08:37:38 +
