[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2012-10-17 Thread Dave Turvene
I just released a 1.0 version of the alps driver [1]. This is my
candidate for linux patch submission for the alps driver supporting the
new V5 and V6 protocols. The code mods in this release bring it into
compliance with the patch submission requirements. I made no logic
changes. I had to make some formatting changes to Ben Gamari's V5
protocol to pass the patch requirements - hopefully I didn't change the
logic.

In a couple days, I'll submit to Canonical rather than linux-input
because I have only tested using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. If you detect any
problems with the 1.0 driver, please post here.

[Bug 1067817] [NEW] restart of program causes duplicate files.

2012-10-17 Thread rickyrockrat
Public bug reported:

In recovering over 700G from a 2T HDD, I had to stop the processonly
to find out the default nature of the program is to create duplicate
files, basically no restart is available unless you want to double the
size of your data.

It is also VERY slow compared to ignoring files that exist. This patch
accomplishes this and and also includes the bug fix here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scrounge-ntfs/+bug/1067814

Patch attached. This patch makes both the Win32 and the Linux command
line the same instead of it being different.

It adds a -i flag, and for Linux, adds -d (on Windows -d already exists
with same functionality).

** Affects: scrounge-ntfs (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Patch added: Fix sector size issue, add -i option, and -d option for Linux.

[Bug 1037453] Re: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu1.4, performance regression

2012-10-17 Thread Silviu C.
Hi Daniel,

Yes, I too believe that what's described in bug #1049214 seems to fit
what's happening on screen. Please mark this as a dupe of that bug
report.

On a side-note there was something that caught my eye in the latest
nvidia driver beta:

Version 310.14
Release DateMon Oct 15, 2012

* Improved performance and responsiveness of windowed OpenGL
applications running inside a Unity session.

While this may not cure the issues in this bug report it might restore
performance lost when gaming. It will certainly make it worth checking

[Bug 956673] Re: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'

2012-10-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Adam, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 717970] Re: After sleep, key presses get lost and trackpad is jittery

2012-10-17 Thread Tom Stam
Hi, I bought a new pathetic Vostro 1540 and my keyboard seems messed up,
everytime I'm typing, at any random moment, it seems like the cursor can
suddenly appear anywhere on the screen and is really time consuming to
repair phrases and words all the time. In the box I am typing right now
it seems to have no problem whatsoever. Is there a fix for this? Do I
need to know code? I believe I have windows 7 Home or Office edition...

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

the posts are always days behind real time. Gibber does not update and

Gibber worked better with Ubuntu versions prior to 10.04.

Re: [Bug 992424] Re: ext4 filesystem errors on SSD disk

2012-10-17 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
@Charles
Ok, I thought you could cause it whenever you want. I agree with you that
it seems to be a function of the amount of file IO. Unfortunately I could
not reproduce when I tried to generate a lot of read and write. But my
files get corrupted after 15-20 days.
I am now testing the same disk (Intel SSD) in another notebook (also with
up to date Ubuntu 12.04) just to make sure it is not related to a hardware
problem with another component like motherboard for example.

[Bug 950352] Re: Online Accounts UI Missing

2012-10-17 Thread Yannick Duchêne
Same for me, using Ubuntu Precise 12.04.

Can open it with “gnome-control-center online-accounts” from a console
(although there are two warning message, see below), but that's not
clean to have to open a console to open it. I came to that issue while
learning more about Ubuntu WebApps.

Additionally, opening the missing control panel from a console, I get
these two messages:

** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not find settings
panel online-accounts

** (gnome-control-center:10977): WARNING **: Could not load setting

[Bug 1067801] Re: Touchpad is misdetected as a PS/2 Mouse on a Fujitsu A512

2012-10-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the
other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next
to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 606238] Re: synaptic touchpad not recognized on dell latitude e6510 and others

2012-10-17 Thread Dave Turvene
@Nicolas Dumoulin

It looks like the driver is not detecting the alps touchpad. Look from
the bottom up in the syslog (probably /varlog/syslog) for lines with
psmouse. If there are lines with alps: E6 then the driver is
installed correctly. What does the line with alps: command_mode:
say? The E6230 may not be a supported alps model, at least there is no
indication in the code it is. So the psmouse driver reverts to 3-byte
ps2 mode.

[Bug 1067515] Re: Locking from user menu fails second time

2012-10-17 Thread Jason Conti
Don't think this is a bug in indicator-session. Basically indicator-
session is just calling two dbus methods on org.gnome.ScreenSaver; Lock
and SimulateUserActivity. It seems that the SimulateUserActivity call is
not returning immediately. I can illustrate this with a simple script:

#!/bin/bash

dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver \
  /org/gnome/ScreenSaver org.gnome.ScreenSaver.Lock
dbus-send --session --print-reply --dest=org.gnome.ScreenSaver \
  /org/gnome/ScreenSaver org.gnome.ScreenSaver.SimulateUserActivity

which when run, locks the screen and then shows the lock screen
immediately. When you unlock the screen, the script will still be
blocked until the timeout is reached, where we get:

method return sender=:1.79 - dest=:1.103 reply_serial=2
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible
causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus
security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
connection was broken.

The first line is from the successful call to Lock. The call to
SimulateUserActivity is also successful since the lock screen appears
immediately, but we never get a reply.

A decent workaround might be to set the timeout to some low value, say 1
second. It seems to work when setting --reply-timeout=1 in the script,
I'm going to try rebuilding indicator-session with that value and see if
it helps (though I am curious why we never get a reply).

2012-10-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
That's interesting. Thanks for testing. That means the regression was
introduced in one of the stable updates. Can you test the following:

v3.5.2 : http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.5.2-quantal/

Based on the results of that kernel, we can then try 3.5.1 or 3.5.3.

Fix for bug 1057528 does not appear to solve this issue. Still seeing it
with: unity 6.8.0+bzr2785sruubuntu0+797 from ppa:unity-team/sru.

Tested on a pandaboard.

[Bug 1067514] Re: Gimp crashes after saving file

2012-10-17 Thread RaduStoica
Hello,

Can you please add a stacktrace to your report?

To do this, launch GIMP from the command line, with the flag --stack-
trace-mode=yes. Now when GIMP crashes, you'll see a question in the
terminal asking you if you want to print a stack trace. Print it and
attach it to your bug report.

  Thanks.

[Bug 1067269] Re: Oops during snd_hda_intel init

2012-10-17 Thread kotique
David, noah, it's a notebook from 2006, it won't have dual mics. The
green jack outputs s/pdif laser beam when digital output isn't muted. I
just tried your change to latest dkms-alsa from that page and it worked
perfectly. I can hear sound from internal speakers in default config. I
get sound through headphones when connected to green socket, so
everything works as expected.

Though I heard very distorted sound from VLC when trying to play music
in default config (directly to alsa?), but changed it to play through
pulseaudio and now everything's fine.

Thanks for fixing this!

[Bug 1066524] Re: ubuntu 10.10 or above not support sis chipset(not the video card)

2012-10-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
prcxjb, thank you for performing the apport-collect.

Regarding your three WORKAROUNDs, do you have to use all 3
simultaneously in Precise, or just any one of them?

As well, the next step is to perform a mainline kernel bisect from
v2.6.34-lucid to v2.6.35.14-maverick, in order to identify the last
known working mainline kernel, and the first bad one. As per
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ the kernels we have are:

v2.6.34-lucid/
v2.6.34-rc1/
v2.6.34.1-maverick/
v2.6.34.2-maverick/
v2.6.34.3-maverick/

v2.6.34.13-maverick/
v2.6.35-maverick/
v2.6.35-rc1-lucid/
v2.6.35-rc2-maverick/
v2.6.35-rc3-maverick/
v2.6.35-rc4-maverick/
v2.6.35-rc5-maverick/
v2.6.35-rc6-maverick/
v2.6.35.1-maverick/
v2.6.35.2-maverick/
v2.6.35.3-maverick/
v2.6.35.4-maverick/

The debugging output show that the EHCI controller was not the source
of the unwanted IRQs. And /proc/interrupts shows that ehci-hcd is the
only driver using IRQ #17, for the :00:1d.0 device.

The most likely explanation is that there an interrupt-routing error
and some other device is causing these problems. I don't know of any
easy way to find out what the other device is, however.

[Bug 1067834] [NEW] inconsistent use of CNAME for hostname

2012-10-17 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

I am using MAAS in a network w/ a preexisting DNS/DHCP infrastructure. I
would like for my MAAS nodes to use the CNAME for the IP they are
assigned as their hostname. This seems to work - but only for the first
enlisted node. All following nodes get configured with the
node-mac.local names. I've rebuilt my MAAS server from scratch a few
times, varying which node I enlist first, and have ruled out DNS issues.
The same node will get a CNAME-based-hostname if enlisted first, and a
mac-based name if enlisted after the first. I can also reproduce by
removing all nodes from an existing MAAS. If I then re-add one of the
nodes that previously had a MAC-based name it enlists w/ a CNAME-based
name.

I'm using MAAS 0.1+bzr1264+dfsg-0ubuntu2 on quantal. maas-dhcp/mass-dns
are not installed.

[Bug 1067836] [NEW] Disk drive for /tmp error displayed briefly after Lubuntu PP - QQ dist-upgrade

2012-10-17 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

This error appears very briefly (10 to 15 seconds) when booting the OS
after upgrading from Lubuntu i386 Precise to Lubuntu i386 Quantal.
Please see the attached picture - sorry it's a bit blurry.

It only appears during the first boot after upgrade, thereafter Lubuntu
boots fine, so I don't think it's serious but I wanted to create a bug
report so Phill and Julien could decide if it should be mentioned in the
release notes.

Should they choose to add a note to the release notes I can absolutely
