[Bug 961034] Re: wrong wording when importing fonts

2012-10-18 Thread Jerry Casiano
I apologize for not addressing this sooner. :-)

The reality is that the version of the program this bug applies to is
pretty much dead.

Work on a Gtk+ 3 version written in Vala is ongoing. And that's my
current focus.

I will not be making any more releases of the Python version.

That said maintainers should feel free to patch the current version as
needed till the new one is released.

[Bug 1059486] Re: Unity Greeter - Panel should be centred vertically

2012-10-18 Thread Michael Terry
What should we do for a panel of even grid size? The normal login panel
is 3 grids tall (one above, one below). An even grid panel would not be
able to be centered perfectly. Do you prefer the extra grid on the top
or bottom?

[Bug 478379] Re: Ubuntu does not work with rtl2832u-dvb-t-chip

2012-10-18 Thread jan
Currently, there is a reasonable workaround:
Follow the steps under
"How to build the v4l-dvb kernel modules from the backport tree"
at http://linuxtv.org/repo/

Drivers for many rtl2832u cards are supported in the current development
version.
Inclusion in a main-line kernel will follow later.

[Bug 1068256] [NEW] OgmRip crashes on Dictator DVD at ifo_read.c:914

2012-10-18 Thread arty
Public bug reported:

I have a Dictator DVD which I tried to copy to avoid drive's noise while
watching. OgmRip crashes when trying to access this DVD. I have it as a
default handler for DVDs and when it's launched by system with drive as
an argument it just crashes. When I start ogmrip manually it shows GUI
and after I click "Load" button it crashes. I'm attaching the console
output and the core dump, hope it helps. Unfortunately this DVD is
rented, so I cannot keep it forever to test fixes.

[Bug 996369] Re: bond slave interface sometimes does not come up on boot

2012-10-18 Thread Daniel Lynes
I just thought I'd point out that this problem occurs in 10.04.4 as
well.

What happens is not that the other interfaces don't come up, but that
they're taking an extended period of time to come up (sometimes as much
as 5 or 6 minutes for the :0 and :1 interfaces to come up.)

[Bug 1068199] Re: please add support for MAP_HUGETLB in eglibc for Lucid

2012-10-18 Thread Adam Stokes
** Patch added: "eglibc_2.11.1-0ubuntu7.1.lucid.debdiff"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eglibc/+bug/1068199/+attachment/3402971/+files/eglibc_2.11.1-0ubuntu7.1.lucid.debdiff

** Description changed:

it looks like eglibc on 10.04 does not have MAP_HUGETLB headers or flags
  activated [1].

According to hugetlbpage.txt [2] they state that if the application is making
use of only (shmget, shmat) calls you don't really
need a virtual filesystem. This behaviout *DOES NOT* happen on 10.04 using
the released hugepages 10.04 packages but it DOES WORK when using precise
packages.

+ [Impact]
+ Those wishing utilize hugepages on Lucid.
+
+ [Test Case]
Here are some steps to reproduce the issue.

  1. Configure hugepages with filesystem support.
  2. Test and validate that it works with 10.04 packages.
  3. Umount the virtual filesystem
  sudo umount /mnt/hugetlbfs
  4. run:
  LD_PRELOAD=libhugetlbfs.so HUGETLB_MORECORE=yes ls /boot
You will get the following error message:
libhugetlbfs: WARNING: Hugepage size 2097152 unavailable
  abi-2.6.32-43-server grub lost+found System.map-2.6.32-43-server
vmlinuz-2.6.32-43-server

  5. Download hugepages packages from:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libhugetlbfs/2.11-0ubuntu1/+build/2263743
and install them.

  6. Try again. It should work without having to configure a virtual
  filesystem.

  [1] -
http://old.nabble.com/Missing-MAP_HUGETLB-flag-from-glibc-headers-td30201924.html
  [2] - http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/vm/hugetlbpage.txt

  Leonardo Borda
+
+ [Regressioni Potential]
+ Huge page support is already in the kernel so this impact is merely making
use of that functionality. There should be no changes needed in current
applications since hugepages can be used through existing shmget, shmat routines.

[Bug 973559] Re: gtk-window-decorator is exiting immediately (or crashing?)

2012-10-18 Thread Fred
compiz (1:0.9.8.4-0ubuntu3) quantal-proposed; urgency=low

  * debian/config, debian/compiz-gnome.migrations,
debian/00_remove_unityshell_in_gnome_session.py:
- add the default gnome_session profile to use gsettings as the migrated
user are on this profile (LP: #1036752). The existing migration scripts
  will upgrade the user config.
- For new users and users already on quantal before this fix, remove the
local config file created if you logged in the classic session hiding the
system one. Also, as the global default is including the unity* plugins,
remove them from the list of plugins the first time you log in.

[Bug 995335] Re: ubiquity installer should show summary screen before performing destructive operations

2012-10-18 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
After discussion with mpt, we believe that summary screen is not
necessary any more since enough warnings are shown. We did discuss to
add grub install destination in multi-disk scenarios. Please file
additional bugs if you find when not enough warnings about data loss
were given & something did not go according to plan.

[Bug 1067473] Re: [quantal] isc-dhcp-client dropped network-interface-security symlink and therefore may run unconfined

2012-10-18 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

+ [IMPACT]
+ * dhclient is a root run process and successfully exploiting a flaw in
dhclient could
+have severe consequences for the user's system
+ [TESTCASE]
+ * On an Ubuntu server system using dhcp for an interface:
+ 1. sudo aa-status # bug not fixed
+ ...
+ 1 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined.
+ /sbin/dhclient ()
+ 2. install the updates
+ 3. reboot
+ 4. sudo aa-status # bug fixed
+ ...
+ 5 processes are in enforce mode.
+ /sbin/dhclient ()
+ ...
+ 0 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ * Regression potential is low. The AppArmor profile for dhclient has been in
use for
+years and is still in effect on the default Ubuntu desktop because of when
network
+manager runs (the profile is loaded before the interface is brought up).
Therefore
+there should be no surprise denials.
+
+
+ = Initial report =
I was doing install audits of 12.10 and noticed this with 'sudo aa-status':
1 processes are unconfined but have a profile defined.
     /sbin/dhclient ()

This is a regression over 12.04 and needs to be fixed in an SRU. I don't know
what introduced the regression, but it is very likely a race condition. I saw
it on 12.10 server but not on 12.10 desktop. It seems to be at least somewhat
reproducible (rebooting once showed it is still affected) with an amd64 VM with
1024M of ram with installation defaults (except home directory is encrypted)
and the following tasks installed:
  Basic Ubuntu server
  OpenSSH server
  DNS server
  LAMP server
  Mail server
  PostgreSQL database
  Print server
  Samba file server
  Tomcat Java server
  Virtual Machine host

Upon investigation this is because /etc/init/network-interface-security.conf
is looking for files in /etc/apparmor/init/network-interface-security/*.
Unfortunately, the quantal merge dropped this:

[Bug 1068242] [NEW] Backslash escapes applied in the chat log

2012-10-18 Thread Kevin
Public bug reported:

When viewing the chat log, and someone sends me text containing what
would be considered a backslash escape in most programming languages,
the escapes will be applied.

For example, the UNC Path "\\servername\c$\source" is displayed as
"\sw01-v2-1c$Source" in the chat log. As you might imagine, this can get
annoying - especially when sending data like Windows paths, which are
usually chock-full of backslashes.

I tested the standard escapes like \n, \r, and \t
If I send someone the text "1\\2\n3\r4\r\n5\t6\\?", this is shown in the log:
1\2
3
4
5 6\?
Strangely, in the faded "last chat" that's shown when you talk to someone whom
you have talked to before, the text is intact - no escapes are applied.

Please sanitize these strings before they are displayed in the log ;-)

The important info in a nutshell:
Ubuntu Version: Precise Pangolin 12.04 64-bit
Empathy Version: 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1
What I expected to happen: My chat's backslashes to be preserved when viewing
in the log
What happened instead: My chat's text is having backslash escapes applied

Just to be sure, I tested this bug in multiple protocols. It is present
in the Google Talk, Facebook, and SIPE protocol chat history. I assume
it is a bug of the log viewer itself. To be honest, I'm surprised this
has gone unnoticed for so long.

Thank you,
 - Kupiakos

Agreed, this looks normal.

There should be nothing specific to Lubuntu in such an issue. It is likely
an uncommon issue that can happen on any Ubuntu flavor. I just don't see at
the moment how it would happen at all if /tmp isn't listed as a mount point.

What does 'mount | grep /tmp' return after boot?

[Bug 1066631] Re: application menu missing

2012-10-18 Thread RaduStoica
What Ubuntu version are you running? The latest unity version is 6.8.

You can try to run in a terminal sudo apt-get update and see if after this
update-manager prompts you for any new packages.

Does this happen in all applications or only in some?

I'll reassign this to unity for the moment.

[Bug 1067515] Re: Locking from user menu fails second time (gnome-screensaver SimulateUserActivity() doesn't return)

2012-10-18 Thread Sebastien Bacher
** Description changed:

- Steps to reproduce
+ Impact:
+ Locking and other actions are delayed when used for a second time
+
+ Test Case:
  1. Login
  2. Lock screen from system menu, then unlock
  3. Lock screen again from system menu

This time the lock dialog takes around 30secs to be displayed. At this
point The same applies for Log-out, suspend options etc, if these are
clicked instead of Lock in step #3.

- Locking via keyboard shortcut is unaffected.
-
- I have been able to reproduce this issue under both LightDM/unity and
- Gdm/gnome-classic.
-
- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10
- Package: indicator-session 12.10.4-0ubuntu1
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-17.27-generic 3.5.5
- Uname: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic x86_64
- ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu1
- Architecture: amd64
- Date: Wed Oct 17 07:53:04 2012
- InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.10 "Quantal Quetzal" - Beta amd64 (20121002)
- SourcePackage: indicator-session
- UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
+ Regression Potential:
+ The SimulateUserActivity method from gnome-screensaver could not function as
it should resulting on the lock screen ui not being displayed after locking
screen of the session indicator (it would still be there but would require an
user action to show)

[Bug 1067836] Re: Disk drive for /tmp error displayed briefly after Lubuntu PP -> QQ dist-upgrade

2012-10-18 Thread Erick Brunzell
That fstab looks quite normal to me:

# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
#
proc/proc procnodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0
# / was on /dev/sda10 during installation
UUID=a865446a-a89e-4faa-8117-1be88a7e07a3 /   ext4
errors=remount-ro 0   1
# swap was on /dev/sda9 during installation
UUID=80627269-1ccd-4774-b4ea-a5ef8824ffaa noneswapsw
  0 0

I want to stress again that the aforementioned warning only appears for
about 10 to 15 seconds during the initial boot following the upgrade,
all subsequent reboots thereafter work quite normally.

I just wondered if it was worth mentioning in the Lubuntu Quantal
release notes, just so users don't freak out.

[Bug 1019887] Re: requestsync crashed with KeyError in __getitem__(): 'hostname'

2012-10-18 Thread Logan Rosen
It's weird, as I definitely didn't change it manually. I'm running a
fresh installation of Quantal in a VM right now, and it says 'ubuntu' on
that line (for now), so we'll see if I can somehow reproduce it again.
Might have been a freak thing.

Steps to reproduce: look at the Twitter icon on the launcher and
switcher. If the bird looks at 3 o'clock it's wrong, if it looks at
about 2 o'clock it's fixed.

Hello,

Thanks for reporting this. It would be helpful if you could install
debug symbols also for glib-2.0 and get a new stacktrace. Maybe some
other debug packages are needed afterwards also - see
http://live.gnome.org/GettingTraces for more information.

[Bug 1068061] Re: Almost all messages from Gmail boxes are duplicated in the Indicator-messages

2012-10-18 Thread Chris Coulson
I'm not sure why every inbox mail for you is being tagged "important",
because that's not the case here and you're the first person to report
this as an issue (although, I was already aware of it, having hit it on
the occasional time Google flags a message as important).

String matching on the label name won't work, as it's translated in to
every language supported by Google, which means it's completely
dependant on the UI language you select in Gmail. For this reason,
string matching is always unreliable and breaks frequently as
translations are updated.

Checking if messages are the same is not really an option. As the 2
messages have different URI's, the only way to check if messages are the
same would be to compare their contents, which a) is incredibly slow,
and b) requires us to stream the entire contents of every message from
the network (rather than just the message headers) just to show a
notification.

Unfortunately, there isn't really any good solution here. If it bothers
you that much, you can turn on "Inbox only" mode in the preferences
