[Bug 287646] Re: Default window size is unhelpfully small

2012-11-08 Thread colin hercus
Hi,
I'm also having this problem but it doesn't fit b3bnmores scenarios.
Using Ubuntu 11.10, eVince 3.2.1

1. every time a pdf is opened it is on left of screen and close to top and it's
vertical size is about 50% of screen.
2. I always have to drag screen to right and down and then resize the window.
3. I 've tried menu EDIT | Use Current Settings as default but it makes no
difference, the window always opens in the same place. This is case whether I
reopen the pdf I was using when I clicked before mentioned menu or if I open a
new pdf. I cannot find any other options for setting default screen size.
4. If I open several pdfs each new one is lower by height of the title bar.

It would be nice if windows opened with fontsize large enough to be
readable, 100% of original or perhaps smaller to fit page size on
screen.

Thanks, Colin

The whiteboard is simply a free form field where we can discuss the need

[Bug 1076860] [NEW] PostgreSQL init script wrongly returns 0 for "status" when no clusters are running

2012-11-08 Thread Andreas Ntaflos
Public bug reported:

Because "set +e" is set in the "status" case of the postgresql init
script, running "service postgresql status" or "/etc/init.d/postgresql
status" always returns with exit code 0. Even when no clusters are
running the exit code is 0, when it should really be 3, indicating that
the service is not running (as per LSB specs). This has negative
implications for Pacemaker, Puppet and other applications that expect
init scripts to conform to LSB specifications.

Attached is a simple patch that removes "set +e" and makes the init
script behave properly.

** Affects: postgresql-9.1 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 864233] Re: New Window doesn't take focus once launched

2012-11-08 Thread Daniel Ebbutt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 66 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/66

#781931 has been closed, as a fix was released. I guess this qualifies
as a regression, as this is still occurring for me on a fresh 12.10
64-bit installation:

- Open Google Chrome with a window already open and focused
- Google Chrome does not gain focus, despite appearing as expected on top of
existing windows
- Keyboard input is directed to the previously active window instead of the new
Chrome window, causing much tribulation

The number of times I've opened Chrome and then for some reason used
alt-f4 to close it immediately and instead accidentally closed the
window behind (still the active one)!

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-11-08 Thread ethanay
why can't the greeter just say, "X user(s) is/are still logged in.
Please log out of all accounts before attempting to shut down or
reboot." and ignore all the nastly permissions stuff??

If an admin really needs to shut down, it's easy enough to do via
terminal or tty. are there really daily use cases where a standard user
needs permission to shut down if other accounts are still logged in?

i think we should also consider whether those "other accounts" are most
likely to be guest sessions, anyways...

I would also like to say that I wish MATE were available by default in
the Ubuntu repos. I hate GNOME 3. I hate Unity. GNOME-shell is a poor
substitute for MATE. Both prioritize simplistic "user friendliness," as
if that were a unitary concept, over the ability for people who
understand how to perform complex tasks to get work done.

I already know how to use MATE because I've been using MacOS, Windows,
and GNOME 2 for twenty years. Please include this in the Ubuntu repos.
It's a meaningful alternative to what's being forced on users as a
default.

[Bug 1076393] Re: Unity freezes when a program uses a lot of CPU and I hover an item on the launcher

2012-11-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Do other programs or the launcher respond while the greyed window is not
responding? Obviously when a window is greyed it usually means compiz
knows the window is not responding.

[Bug 1067895] Re: 10ec:8176 rtl8192ce fails to recover after resume without shut down

2012-11-08 Thread gene
I'd like to change the conclusion the 3.2.33-030233-generic-pae kernel, it
turns out to have FIXED resume problem. What confused me at first, was another
bug (fixed in most of the latest versions) to lock the system for a second or
two when running "service network-manager restart"
AMOF, I had a problem booting 3.0.51-030051-generic-pae and
3.2.0-32-generic-pae radeon bug 1069249

Actually, I don't think I will have more time working on this bug since it is
not my laptop and that going through ALL kernels is not very productive and
convenient way of testing for me. I don't know who would enjoy 50 reboots.

Not sure which one is that. Perhaps the realtek driver. However, there
is another issue to lock the system when reloading the driver for a
short period that might lead to longer locks, see earlier comments and
the crash dump.

[Bug 1075614] Re: Unity leaks memory even when desktop is idle, screen locked in 12.10

2012-11-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Note that this may be memory bloat rather than a leak. Most people write
code that guarantees memory is freed on exit, so a leak is never
detected. However a more common and harder to find problem is bloat,
where the memory is allocated (and grows) for the lifetime of the
process but is only freed on shutdown.

[Bug 1076741] Re: smplayer: Unknown option on the command line: --fontconfig

2012-11-08 Thread rvm
Are you sure this happen with mplayer too?
I've just compiled the latest svn (35369) and -fontconfig is still working.

For mplayer2, yes they removed that option some months ago, and now
smplayer (from svn r4683) doesn't use -fontconfig with mplayer2.

So the problem in smplayer is fixed, but you need the very latest
version from svn.

I actually originally attempted the official xorg package and was trying
this workaround as suggested by you in a similar bug report. Should I
resubmit this exact report but with the official package instead?

[Bug 945027] Re: ubi-partman failed with exit code 141

2012-11-08 Thread MA Jun
I found this bug occurs when there are two operations on the disk and
one of them is ubuntu.

The error code is in the function "calculate_autopartitioning_options"
in the file ubi-partman.py, one variable is used without
initialization.

[Bug 875435] Re: iBus indicator does not show on the panel

2012-11-08 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Two comments on Ma's branch:

* I don't think that 80im-switch needs to be explicitly removed via
debian/postinst, but it should be automatically removed when upgrading
from a previous im-switch version (untested).

* When removing "sleep 10", you'd better replace those blocks (including
the trailing & characters) with what it looked like in revision 13.

[Bug 1076832] [NEW] "Additional drivers" tab doesn't work when Software Sources was launched by synaptic

2012-11-08 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Install synaptic and run it
2. Click Settings->repositories
3. Click "Additional software" tab
4. Attempt to change to a different driver.

Expected result: The driver gets installed.

Actual result: Operation never completes.

Analysis: This happens because Software Sources is waiting on Synaptic
to exit before performing apt commands. But Synaptic is itself waiting
on Software Sources to exit, and you can't close Synaptic before this
happens because it's UI is disabled.

There is no message telling the user that this is what has happened, so
just as with the automatic U1 installer, the user does not know they
need to close other package managers before the process will complete.
So they are just left waiting forever. Of course in this case it is
impossible for the user to unlock the package db without closing
everything down and starting over.

[Bug 1076830] [NEW] panel crashes if you add, remove, then add the same applet

2012-11-08 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. windows-alt-right-click the panel, and then "add to panel"
2. Add an applet that you don't already have, eg Fish, or Notification area

3. Close "Add to panel" window

[Bug 1076829] [NEW] Recording only works once

2012-11-08 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:

1. Start recording
2. Click Finish recording, then click "cancel".
3. Start recording again
4. Click Finish recording.

Expected result: See the dialogue with "save for later" and "cancel".

Actual result: Nothing happens. Must kill kazam and restart it.

Checking in /tmp reveals that the temporary recording is zero bytes. I
suspect this is an issue with audio sources as very occasionally kazam
gives me an error about "no audio devices found" on startup (I've
restarted it about 40 times in the past two hours due to this bug, and

[Bug 875435] Re: iBus indicator does not show on the panel

2012-11-08 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Nice, Ma! :) Obviously you put quite some effort in that branch.

Now, how about bearing Rodney's advice at
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2012-November/014024.html in mind, and following the SRU
procedure. Next step would be to create a merge proposal and have it
accepted and uploaded to Raring.

Hopefully someone can change the status of the im-switch (Ubuntu) task
from "Fix Released" to "In Progress" (I can't), and you can assign the
task to yourself. I suppose that the O, P and Q tasks should not be
altered until the "sleep 10" SRU process has been completed.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-11-08 Thread adam jvok
I have the same problem. 12.10, 64 bit.
Every day or 2 I get a complete freeze - no mouse/keyboard repsonse, screen
does not change (clock does not advance), no ssh/ping reply. Nothing in logs.
I've been seeing this on several different PCs through few versions of Ubuntu
(all 64 bit) for at least 18months.
Never see this on a machine running 32bit.

[Bug 1076776] Re: 12.10: Default background after logon

2012-11-08 Thread Graham
Have also tested 3.7.0-rc2 kernel but the screen becomes corrupt even
before the logon prompt appears (see screenshot). Using Ubuntu 12.04
worked fine before and after logon (i.e no problems with this release)

2012-11-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Michael Knopp, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, Nick Andrik's PPA is not a
software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because
of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

[Bug 1076825] [NEW] Can't configure nova to use MySQL as backend

2012-11-08 Thread Eduardo Patrocinio
Public bug reported:

Linux version: Ubuntu 12.10 server

root@openstack:/var/lib/nova# nova-manage version
2012.2 (2012.2-LOCALBRANCH:LOCALREVISION)

Even thou I have configured nova.conf to use MySQL:

root@openstack:/etc/nova# grep sql_connection nova.conf
sql_connection=mysql://root:password@localhost/nova

It still uses sqlite as the backend. I added these 2 lines to
nova/db/sqlalchemy/session.py

def get_engine():
"""Return a SQLAlchemy engine."""
global _ENGINE
LOG.warn('-- Eduardo -- _ENGINE: %s', _ENGINE)
LOG.warn('-- Eduardo -- sql_connection: %s', FLAGS.sql_connection)
if _ENGINE is None:
connection_dict = sqlalchemy.engine.url.make_url(FLAGS.sql_connection)

and obtain the following
2012-11-08 02:59:31 WARNING nova.db.sqlalchemy.session [-] -- Eduardo --
_ENGINE: Engine(sqlite:var/lib/nova/nova.sqlite)
2012-11-08 02:59:31 WARNING nova.db.sqlalchemy.session [-] -- Eduardo --
sql_connection: sqlite:var/lib/nova/nova.sqlite

confirming nova is using sqlite as the database.
