[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found"

2012-11-15 Thread bert07
BTW2

It is not an UBUNTU thingy, it is a Linuw thing.
You won't get your floppy to work on Fedora are any other distro either.
Exept for Puppy. At least the former ones.

Though I must say that Udisks2 is not really what I what we (I) expected.
It keeps my floppy occupied al the time, so also there a fix is needed.

But Udisks2 seems to work. (more or less)

Do not forget that this is Linux, and they have to write everything
(almost everything) from scratch.

Linux had come this far...

And it will go on developing. Making your and mine floppy work if given
time.

[Bug 1079555] [NEW] File restore is completely abandoned due to a single invalid backup file

2012-11-15 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

While restoring files from a backup, Deja Dup failed with a hash
mismatch for one of the (many) difftar.gz files. It showed an error
message, and when I closed that error message Deja Dup exited. As a
result, Deja Dup abandoned the entire operation, leaving only the files
that had been restored by this point. The application provided no means
for solving the problem. A screenshot of the error message is attached.

At a bare minimum, the error message should try to communicate which
files it can't restore as a result of the error. Telling me which
difftar.gz file is corrupted is as good as giving me a core dump at this
point. In my case, I _did_ get back all the files I wanted, but only by
painstakingly restoring individual subdirectories and keeping a careful
list of which files triggered which errors.

Deja Dup should offer to continue, skipping whatever it needs to skip.
Additionally, it would be nice if the application provided some means
for working around the issue (for example, looking for earlier versions
of the lost files), but that's probably for another bug report.

"Close" should be labelled "Abort" to communicate the fact that it will
drop everything and probably not do what you want to have happen if you
were interested in restoring files from a backup.

[Bug 1079552] [NEW] Unexpectedly asks for authentication halfway through file restore process

2012-11-15 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

While restoring files, after the (very long) "Preparing" step, Deja Dup
seems to execute "pkexec /bin/sh …" in order to run some script as root.
This is problematic for a few reasons:

1. It happens in the middle of the restore process. At best, the prompt
for authentication will appear while the user is doing something else,
causing confusion. At worst, the prompt will appear while the user is
away from the computer expecting Deja Dup to be restoring his files.

2. When restoring a number of files (deja-dup --restore-missing) the
prompt for authentication happens for each file that has been selected.
With #1, the user must babysit Deja Dup.

3. Deja Dup some code with full root permissions, without telling the
user what that code does. This shouldn't be necessary.

This authentication should be somehow replaced with a gentler, less
privileged PolicyKit request, and Deja Dup should ask for authentication
either as soon as possible or as late as possible so the need does not
arise (repeatedly) while the application is restoring files in the
background.

[Bug 1079546] [NEW] Encoding problems with Webapps

2012-11-15 Thread mackuz
Public bug reported:

Hello.

I have clean install of Ubuntu 12.10, Russian, UTF-8.

I've seen it in Google Calendar webapp and Yandex Music webapp:
application name, I can see if I click on right button on it's icon in
Launcher, looks strange, with non-readeble symbols, apps don't appear in
Messaging menu (Google Calendar) and Sound menu (Yandex music), Yandex
music has no icon in Launcher, question mark instead of it.

Here is the part of the "favorites" string in dconf-editor - com - unity
- launcher for theese two apps:
"'application://=45:A\u001cC7K:0musicyandexru.desktop',
'application://Google\u001a0;5=40@Lgooglecom.desktop'" (Yandex Music and
Google Calendar).

Thanks.

[Bug 441835] Re: Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found"

2012-11-15 Thread bert07
Acceptaable or not, that won't help nobody.

We just should make it work.

Under Lucid we could make it work by downgrading.

And I agree that many people still use floppys (I'm one of them) but it
does not help anyone when you start making noise.

[Bug 1079538] [NEW] Displays Console - Can't Choose Other Monitor Until After Apply

[Bug 1070622] Re: "Save As" Dialog Not Coming Up

2012-11-15 Thread Akkana Peck
We had this problem at a local Ubuntu Hour tonight -- a new user showed
up who was trying to figure out how to export a spreadsheet from
LibreOffice to XLS format. In LibreOffice Calc he brought up Export (the
dialog appeared), didn't see an XLS option, cancelled the dialog, then
tried Save as and no dialog appeared. From then on, neither Save as nor
Export did anything at all -- no dialog.

Could this possibly be related to unity's moving of the menus? I've
never seen anything like that running LibreOffice under openbox (but
I've only run it on Pangolin, and the machine with the problem tonight
was Quetzal).

agree that I fix should be released for the LTS.

I know that this won't happen, but why not release the old udisks on the

Under Lucid (LTS) one could downgrade udisks so it kept working.
So why not downgrade udisks for the current LTS?

[Bug 1079112] Re: localc crashes when trying to open a specific (possibly damaged) .ods file

2012-11-15 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Ulf Mehlig, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one
and it would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the
developers of the software by following the instructions verbatim at
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport . If you have done so,
please tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can
add a bugwatch that will inform us about the status. Thanks in advance.

Helpful bug reporting tips:

Marking Triaged Medium due to sidebar with Ulf Mehlig as he has no free
space on his HDD, and issue is reproducible.

[Bug 1079112] Re: localc crashes when trying to open a specific (possibly damaged) .ods file

Cut from Bug Description.

** Attachment added: "backtrace.txt"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1079112/+attachment/3435230/+files/backtrace.txt

** Description changed:

- localc crashes when trying to open a specific, older .ods file
- (attached). The file might be damaged, however, the error is not obvious
- as opening the file with fileroller etc. works and the XML files within
- seem to be superficially ok. The crash occurs while reading the file.
- When started as below, the calc window appears for a moment on the
- screen, with the "read file" progress bar moving. Unfortunately, I
- cannot provide a backtrace with debug symbols at the moment due to space
- problems.

[Bug 1079535] [NEW] Firmware for Broadcom SDIO wireless chipsets

2012-11-15 Thread Steven Barker
Public bug reported:

The firmwares for Broadcom SDIO wireless chipsets were removed from the
linux-firmware package with the commit:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/git?p=ubuntu/linux-firmware.git;a=commit;h=a9e6e9aa504efda315ee9cf4e50652df460e6ff0
I believe this is in error as bcm4329/433x are not obsolete as these chipsets
have been released in a range of devices this year including the Nexus 7.

2012-11-15 Thread Clemens Eisserer
I can still reproduce the problem with 1.11.0, shipped with Fedora-Beta-RC3.
There is a simple, self-containing test-case attached, so developers should be
able to reproduce the issue themself easily.

Please change bug status to "New" again.

[Bug 325074]

2012-11-15 Thread Roman
After a couple of months of working with KUbuntu Natty I find that these
graphical corruptions still may occasionally appear (mainly the panels
get corrupted). However, they became very seldom, and I cannot figure
out how to reproduce them "naturally" (not using the testcase from
here). The testcase still works as previously.

[Bug 325074]

2012-11-15 Thread Roman
In my KDE 4.4.2 the windows at (0,0) can be corrupted just as easily.
Actually I noted the following rule (in KDE): the corruption (a hole in the
place where some old tooltip was previously drawn) occures only if the new
tooltip (the one which triggers the hole) does NOT cover the window which
should be holed. Due to this, the maximized windows are never holed by KDE
tooltips. But this rule seemingly does not apply to your testcase: it corrupts
just all existing windows.

I can reproduce the problem with icewm too, and I doubt plasma is
involved in this problem at all - it hasn't any way to influence the
expose-handling of windows.

[Bug 325074]

2012-11-15 Thread Roman
I cannot reproduce this bug in KDE 4.6.2 (XOrg 1.10.1) with KUbuntu Natty
during the routine work. The action sequences that previously corrupted panels
and windows with 100% chance, no longer corrupt anything. I tested this on two
machines, with intel and nvidia graphic cards. I am really happy not to see
these corruptions now.
However, the holer testcase from here still corrupts the desktop as previously.
This may indicate that the bug is not really fixed and can re-appear again in
future releases.

[Bug 325074]

2012-11-15 Thread Roman
I am beginning to doubt that the bug is indeed in X, because I can not
reproduce it in pure X (without KDE or any other DE and any window manager,
starting it via xinit).
The holes in application windows and various graphical elements can appear only
after I launch manually 'plasma-desktop' (this loads desktop and panels, but
still no window manager). This suggests the bug may be actually located in
plasma. Is it reproducible using the Clemens' testcase in something else than
KDE (e.g. gnome)?

I was able to reproduce the bug with xorg-x11-server 1.9.99.1-2.20101201
shipped as part of Fedora rawhide.

Just download the KDE live cd, and start the holer testcase.

I noticed a subtile thing, windows located at (0,0) don't seem to be
affected by the corruptions.

As sson as I move firefox away from the top-left corner, I see the

> I am beginning to doubt that the bug is indeed in X, because I can not

I can reproduce this with just X, twm xterm and xeyes as well as the testcase
attached to this bug (started several times to get holes faster). With the
client areas of xeyes and xterm overlapping, the test case app causes the
contents of the xeyes window to be painted over the xterm window in front of it.
I used a pretty much empty xorg.conf containing just stub sections, so no
extensions have been disabled/enabled.

[Bug 1073956] Re: Scheduler Race Condition at high volume

2012-11-15 Thread Joseph W. Breu
Hey Vish,

I'm still seeing the behavior happen when scheduling at least 52
instances nearly simultaneously. I am running with the patch mentioned
above. We are running a single instance of the scheduler.

The scheduler placed the instances in the following manner:
compute-node07 : 4
compute-node09 : 3
compute-node10 : 3
compute-node11 : 3
compute-node22 : 18
compute-node26 : 13
compute-node36 : 4
compute-node37 : 4

all nodes have 96GB of RAM.

nova.conf:
compute_scheduler_driver=nova.scheduler.filter_scheduler.FilterScheduler
scheduler_available_filters=nova.scheduler.filters.standard_filters
# which filter class names to use for filtering hosts when not specified in the
request.
#scheduler_default_filters=AvailabilityZoneFilter,RamFilter,ComputeFilter,CoreFilter,SameHostFilter,DifferentHostFilter,RetryFilter
scheduler_default_filters=RamFilter,ComputeFilter,RetryFilter
node_availability_zone=nova
default_schedule_zone=nova
compute_fill_first_cost_fn_weight=-1.0
scheduler_max_attempts=5

[Bug 883459]

2012-11-15 Thread Christian Trippe
I still get duplicated messages with KDE 4.9.3 when downloading mails
from a pop3 account which then get directly moved to a subfolder via a
filter. Both the original and the duplicate message are displayed in the
destiantion folder of the filter and you can "remove" the duplicate by
right click on the folder and choosing "refresh folder".

[Bug 883459]

2012-11-15 Thread Alexandre-bonneau
Using Kmail 4:4.9.3-0ubuntu0.1~ppa1, I indeed see close to no more duplication !
Great job !!

I did saw 2 or 3 duplications while browsing previously unread mails
(mails that were fetched before using 4.9.3), but so far, so good.

I'll report back here in a week for my last statement on this annoying
bug.
