[Bug 1081651] Re: Please produce JSON output suitable for Harvest

2012-11-21 Thread Iain Lane
As I explained on IRC, this isn't likely to happen. When(!!!) we get
upgraded to the new ben in production, we'll be able to output a yaml
file which will contain all of this data. Doing JSON too will be
needless duplication.

Some other tool will be able to mangle the YAML into a format for
Harvest to read. I'll let you know when the file is made available.

[Bug 877885] Re: memory leak in gnome-shell

2012-11-21 Thread Githlar
I'm experiencing this issue as well (version 3.6.1 from the PPA). I'm
using an ATI card with the proprietary binary drivers. Gnome shell
starts at about 30M, and works up very slowly (I'm assuming some
initialization is going on the background) and levels off. However, as
soon as I hit the Activities for the first time, memory spikes up about
20M. Then each subsequent hit will jump it up a little over 1M for each
hit. If I let it sit after these subsequent hits, the memory does not
get released.

The worst I've seen mine consume was around 200M. But still, that's far
from what it should be taking.

[Bug 1081422] Re: system freeze

2012-11-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1075263] Re: Items of a menubar built from GMenu do not always work

2012-11-21 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Ok, the fix seems to work fine and no bug was reported since it landed,
I've uploaded a quantal backport

** Description changed:

+ Impact:
+ sometime menu items are not working
+
+ Test Case:
+ wget
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-appmenu/+bug/1075263/+attachment/3424800/+files/test.py
+ "python test.py"
+ use the unity menu to do file->quit
+ run "python test.py" directly again
+ try to use file->quit
+
+ without the fix the menu item doesn't work after a quick restart, after
+ the fix it does
+
+ Regression potential:
+ check that menu correctly represent the focussed applications and that items
work as they should
+
+ ---
+
In the attached example, the Quit menu item is supposed to work but
sometimes it does not. If you start and quit the example repeatedly, you
will eventually witness the Quit item having no effect when clicked.

This is happening with both Python 2 and Python 3, in both Quantal and
  Precise.

However, it seems to be happening only with the mouse: the keyboard
accelerator (Ctrl+q) always works. Calling the action directly from dbus
  with

  gdbus call --session --dest org.gnome.test --object-path /org/gnome/test
  --method org.gtk.Actions.Activate 'quit' [] {}

  also seems to always work.

This issue seems exclusive to menus built with GMenu. Swallowed
GtkMenuBars seem to always work fine.

[Bug 366780] Re: Please provide a mechanism whereby Wi-Fi networks can be prioritized

2012-11-21 Thread Mariano Dupont
The problem is not so simple:

Once I've ordered the list of networks (A, B, C), suppose I'm connected
to network A, and nm detects there is no connectivity (i.e. no ping to
gateway, or DNS), then it should fallback to network B.

The problem here is how to decide when to go back to network A without
interrupting connectivity.

1) The easy way is interrupting it, say, 30 minutes later and check. All
connections will be lost.
2) Other possibility is stay on B until it loses connectivity.
3) The hard way, and I guess is not possible yet, is that the NIC and the
driver support virtual STAtions, this way it can associate to multiple APs
simultaneously. In that case we could even round robin connections and have
bandwidth incremented.

Regards,
Mariano

[Bug 1038162] Re: HUD doesn't work with Lyx until after opening the menus manually

2012-11-21 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes
I believe this is a bug in unity. The peculiar handling of menus that we
have in LyX already caused problems when top-screen menus where
introduced, but this now works.

I suspect that the solution is in unity itself.

Or if it happens that LyX itself shouold react to some signal to
populate its menus, please let us know.

[Bug 1081670] [NEW] Nautilus templates does not find installed templets

2012-11-21 Thread Ivar Forss
Public bug reported:

Maby already reported but seems still valid...

Right clicking in nautilus and selecting "Create new document" shows
only: "no templates installed". In the dir that ubuntu automaticly
creates "~/Templates" there is several files.

Solution was googling and finding a solution written 2008,
gedit ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs
and check if there is a line: XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/Templates"

In my case it was XDG_TEMPLATES_DIR="$HOME/" so i added "Templates" and
everything worked...

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1081454] Re: Xubuntu 12.10 Taskbar Scrolling like ticker?

[Bug 1080808] Re: nVidia/nouveau fails when logging in to Ubuntu/Kubuntu with kernel 3.7.0-2

2012-11-21 Thread C de-Avillez
@Bryce: I started having problems around Quantal Beta2, Unity, and found
that moving to the nVidia proprietary driver would either eliminate the
problem, or make it very rare (I did not experience this issue at all
with the proprietary driver). But the proprietary driver sucks in terms
of setting multiple monitors -- I could not set them up unless by trying
again and again (which sounds very much like the definition of
insanity). So I went back to Nouveau, and found that KDE would survive
longer. So I moved to KDE.

Then -- last week -- I upgraded to Raring. There I simply cannot use the
3.7.0 kernel; the 3.5.0-19 suffers the same issues on Unity, but mostly
works on KDE.

So, a summary (*NOTE* this seems to happen with some, but not all,
nVidia cards. In my case it is a GT218 [NVS 3100M] rev a2):

* nouveau on Quantal (Unity) fails at least once a day with the errors above;
failure requires machine to be power-cycled; no local access is possible
* nouveau on Quantal (KDE) is usable; similar failures are mostly observed when
logging in, and require a power-cycle
* nouveau on Raring (Unity or KDE) fails during login, *always*. Raring works
if booted with kernel 3.5.0-19

I will check the upstream kernels.

Okay I've seen both my ilk machines gpu hang over the weekend, and I've
never seen them do it before.

I've got an error state from one at least, if its not in there then I
suspect rc6.

[Bug 366780] Re: Please provide a mechanism whereby Wi-Fi networks can be prioritized

2012-11-21 Thread AirBreather
Mariano,

I do not believe that users such as myself are requesting that NM should
"upgrade" an active connection from B to A when it detects that this is
possible.

The request is to allow users to configure the order in which NM
automatically tries to connect to networks. If I have a T3 line to my
house behind a wireless router, I don't want NM to choose anything else
when that is in range.

Similarly, if I carry around a portable hotspot device with metered
bandwidth, I don't want NM choose that unless no other known wireless
networks are in range.

I don't want NM to automatically interrupt my Call of Duty session (or
whatever the kids are playing these days) to connect to a different
network if the currently connected network is working just fine.

[Bug 1081676] [NEW] Precise update to 3.2.34 stable release

2012-11-21 Thread Herton R. Krzesinski
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from Linus' tree or in a minimally
backported form of that patch. The 3.2.34 upstream stable
patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

TEST CASE: TBD

The following patches are in the 3.2.34 stable release:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1081679] [NEW] pam-auth-update needs a way to fine tune the order of the stack

2012-11-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

libpam-sss needs special features from pam-auth-update, because on the
auth stack pam_sss has to be below pam_unix ("mandated" by upstream, it
had several issues of it's own), but on the password stack it needs to
have a higher priority so that it would work properly when pam_cracklib
is installed.

The current config snippet:
..
Priority: 128
Password-Type: Primary
Password:
sufficient pam_sss.so
Password-Initial:
sufficient pam_sss.so
..

..had to drop use_authtok from non-initial case (= the default). Here
Password-Initial is basically bogus, since it's never used. This now
breaks when pam_cracklib is installed, since it has the highest priority
and will always be on top. But I had to use what works for the default
install.

Now, I'd suggest adding support for '$STACK-Priority' or such, in this
case 'Password-Priority: 512' which would make it higher than pam_unix
with the default install but still lower than pam_cracklib (1024 iirc),
so both use cases would then work.

unless this sounds too crackful, I'll try to implement it..

[Bug 1081502] Re: posix acl permissions evaluated wrongly with null mask

[Bug 1081680] [NEW] Edac kernel modules cause high load

2012-11-21 Thread Jeff Jones
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10, 64-bit.

On reboot, I noticed a high load average around 3.0 although nothing was
taking up any meaningful CPU time.

Tracking it down, a modprobe had gone uninterruptable trying to load two
edac kernel modules, edac_core and i82975x_edac. Blacklisting these two
modules solved it.

The machine in question is a Dell Precision 390. It does not have ECC
RAM and does not require edac.

[Bug 1081613] Re: FTBFS in raring-proposed (libdrm_nouveau 2)

2012-11-21 Thread Robert Hooker
disabling all the drm renderers besides the dumb ioctl one is probably
the best way to go, it should be using the generic one. Also --disable-
libkms would be useful, the dumb version that was backported in quantal
supersedes it and its just a useless dependency. Note: nothing actually
used libkms in plymouth.

see
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/plymouth/commit/?id=8e932e9895bacf9b490e60e4be63d8902201e5d5
for the rationale of disabling the device specific drm drivers and
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/plymouth/commit/?id=527400dc5a9da4cd3ef8a831e7309e1627d6b3b0

[Bug 1054495] Re: AirPrint doesn't work on iOS 6 device

2012-11-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
** Description changed:

After iOS 6 update on my iPad2 device Airprin doesn't work on my ubuntu 12,04
"precise" machine.
On my iPhone with iOS 5.1.1 still works fine.

I dont know if any attachement is required for this issue.
  Sorry...
+
+ [IMPACT]
+
+ Everyone with iOS 6 on his iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, independent whether
+ iOS 6 was installed from the beginning or by an update, is not able to
+ print from his iOS device any more, as there are changes in the AirPrint
+ implementation. Due to Apple's updates this affects Apple hardware of
+ the last three years.
+
+ [TESTCASE]
+
+ Print from an Appler iOS device with iOS 6 or newer. The print queues of
+ your shared printers on your Precise machine do not appear. After
+ applying the fixed package the queues will appear and printing will
+ work.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The changes are very simple (see attached debdiff) and so there are no
+ regressions expected.

[Bug 1081683] [NEW] sort inconsistent

2012-11-21 Thread Moses Moore
Public bug reported:

In the following examples, I expect /usr/bin/sort to always put '.'
(0x2E) before 'a' (0x61)

$ echo -e 'ab\naa\n.a' |sort
.a
aa
ab

$ echo -e 'aba\naaa\n.aa' |sort
.aa
aaa
aba

$ echo -e 'abb\naaa\n.ab' |sort
aaa
.ab
abb

The difference between examples 2 and 3 is the third byte of each line
is one bit higher, and for some reason this makes the first byte "."
simultaneously after "a" and before "a" in sort order. That's should be
contradictory, and this is repeatable.

This also happens when other punctuation marks are the first byte (remember 'a'
is 0x61)
$ echo -e 'abb\naaa\n!ab' |sort  # ! = 0x21
$ echo -e 'abb\naaa\n_ab' |sort # _ = 0x5F
$ echo -e 'abb\naaa\n{ab' |sort # { = 0x7B , so not only for bytes that are  <
0x61

[Bug 1079482] Re: Windows 7 Not Booting

2012-11-21 Thread Phillip Susi
Extract the script from the archive, and if you extracted it to your
Downloads directory, then open a terminal and:

cd Downloads
sudo ./bootinfoscript

Mounting means opening the filesystem on the disk and attaching it
somewhere within the Unix filesystem hierarchy so you can access the
files. ntfs-3g normally refuses to mount an NTFS partition if it
detects a windows hibernation file, since modifying the filesystem while
windows is hibernated would cause corruption when windows resumes. The
option you are trying to pass instructs ntfs-3g to go ahead and delete
the hibernation file ( preventing windows from resuming ), and proceed.

[Bug 1078100] Re: Searching Dash for "drivers" doesn't find "Additional Drivers" tab

2012-11-21 Thread Jan Rathmann
Like the reporter, I had to do a web search to find out where the module
to install additional/propritary drivers had gone in Quantal! From an
end user perspective I can see no logic in finding the driver related
settings in another module called "Software Sources"(sic!).

So my suggestion would be to rename "Software Sources" to "Software
Sources and Drivers" to make clear for the end user that this program
now also deals with driver things.

Kind regards,
Jan

[Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work

2012-11-21 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
My fstab doesn't have the acl option set, and I don't recall the acl
option ever being there before. I installed this machine years ago from
9.04. Would the 9.04 installer have set that option? If not, perhaps
that explains the problem.

[Bug 1081689] [NEW] Failed upgrade, can I add shell command to file mgr menu for zip file extraction?

2012-11-21 Thread bsalem
Public bug reported:

$ uname -a
Linux brucesalem-FQ582AA-ABA-SR5710F 2.6.38-16-generic #67-Ubuntu SMP Thu Sep 6
18:00:43 UTC 2012 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux

I can't upgrade because upgrade manager complains about unsupported
packages.

The version of the file manager pcMANfm is 0.99

The problem is that unlike earlier versions of nautalis, clicking a zip
file does not create a directory with the same name as the zip file. The
FM just extracts the files in the current dir, which is the way the
shell command works.

Can I change the command that clicking on the zip file icon does or
should I report a bug?

IMHO it is bad policy to change major functions of a tool like a file
manager.
