That report is useless due to:

you need to select the crash found into /var/crash/ and right-click on

No, I'm getting this issue since the first reports in the forum
appeared. On Linux 3.7.0 RC8 with the NVIDIA driver 304.64 I'm getting

[Bug 1087915] Re: Can't combine -o permissions with -o uid=UUU, gid=GGG

2012-12-07 Thread Jean-Pierre
"At the moment, it seems that mount.ntfs-3g disables -o permissions if -o
uid=UUU and/or uid=GGG are also specified."
Yes, that should be expected. You cannot both define the owner of a file both
as the current user and a forced user. See
http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-advanced/ownership-and-permissions/#options
"This (combined with Ubuntu's compilation options disallowing user mounts for
NTFS-3g) prevents unprivileged users from easily accessing NTFS systems while
preserving standard Unix permissions."
This is unrelated. For preserving standard permissions, do not force owner and
group which would be a non-standard way of setting permissions.
"With "mount -o permissions", permissions ARE preserved, but all files are
owned by root:"
No, should not be. You are probably displaying files not created with option
"-o permissions" or files created by root, or files created by Windows. Using
"-o permissions" without forcing uid and gid, and not running as root, please
post the output of :
id
touch newfile
stat newfile
"root# touch /vol/exthd/x
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/x
-rw--w--w- 1 root root 0 Dec 8 00:29 /vol/exthd/x"
The file x is created by root, it should obviously be owned by root.

[Bug 1087916] Re: [GA-MA770T-UD3P, Realtek ALC888] Distorted crackling noise when using FluidSynth

2012-12-07 Thread Kevin Israel
Raymond: Yes, I do suspect this is a problem with "glitch-free"
PulseAudio output when applications ask for low latency, and it
definitely happened with both FluidSynth and VLC on both 12.04 and
12.10.

On 12.10, I can only reproduce the problem in VLC using its PulseAudio
output module, through which it requests "0.00 ms" latency - NOT using
its ALSA output module set to "Playback/recording through the PulseAudio
sound server". VLC was not misbehaving at the time
Symptom_PulseAudioLog.txt was captured, because I had already switched
it to the ALSA setting when I was running 12.04.

Here is a PulseAudio "-" log of this. The crackling noise stopped at
about the time "alsa-sink.c: Underrun!" appeared following all the
"memblock.c: Pool full" and "flist.c: pulsecore/memblockq.c: list_items
flist is full (don't worry)" lines. This was about a minute after I
started a video playing. (Unfortunately, this particular log file does
not have timestamps, although the problem is easy to reproduce if
necessary.)

Recording might have only been an issue in 12.04, which did not even
seem to detect my input jacks correctly. Aside from the usual noise, I
seem to have no problem with my mic input right now. So we should
probably focus on the playback issue.

[Bug 1087624] Re: System freezes randomly

2012-12-07 Thread shalinmangar
I installed upstream linux-image and linux-image-extras as specified.

linux-image-3.7.0-030700rc8-generic_3.7.0-030700rc8.201212031649_amd64.deb
linux-image-extra-3.7.0-030700rc8-generic_3.7.0-030700rc8.201212031649_amd64.deb

The bug still exists with the upstream kernel and I've added the
appropriate tag.

Running Chrome with five tabs open, Oracle JDK7 (4 instances) and a 720p
movie on vlc-player made the system freeze. I was able to reproduce the
freeze twice with the same applications.

Interestingly, the chrome "seccomp" violations seen with kernel 3.5 (pasted
below) do not happen with 3.7 but the system still freezes. The following is
the dmesg output from 3.5:

I checked kernel logs and there are no messages which could indicate any
problems.

Please let me know if there's any other detail I can provide to help you
with diagnosis.

[Bug 359361] Re: ALSA SPDIF Digital output clipping / crackling during playback

2012-12-07 Thread Raymond
Several bug reports suggest that the forcibly resetting IEC958 status
bits is required for AD codecs to get the SPDIF output working
 properly after changing streams.

Original fix credit to Javeed Shaikh.

[Bug 1087918] [NEW] no warning when assigning Super+1

2012-12-07 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

Running unity-2d on a precise system.

I assigned Super+1 to 4 to "Switch to Workspace 1" to 4. Never did I
get an indication that these shortcuts are already assigned. When
pressing only the super key, there's still the indication in the
launcher to start the respective programs (although they won't start
now). This is confusing to a unity-newbie like me and could be handled
better.

The more I dig into unity, the more I love it. Great work! If only I
didn't have severe problems with bug 1087535.

[Bug 1063993] Please test proposed package

2012-12-07 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello Frank, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mame into precise-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mame/0.145-0ubuntu2 in
a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-12-07 Thread Steve Langasek
Hi Jelmer,

The SRU upload for this has a couple of issues, unfortunately:

 - The .changes file was generated on Debian, not on Ubuntu, so the LP bug
references are missing. We need this to be generated on Ubuntu for the SRU
tracking process to work. I would reupload to fix this myself, except:
 - The switch from setoption.pl to setoption.py does not look like an
SRU-appropriate minimal change for this bug. If there is a reason that the .py
version needs to be used instead of the .pl version, please document that here
in the bug; otherwise, please stick with the .pl implementation and add the
perl-modules dependency instead which AIUI is needed for this script to work.

Also, please update the bugs referenced in the changelog to include the
information required by
.

[Bug 1087916] [NEW] [GA-MA770T-UD3P, Realtek ALC888] Distorted crackling noise when using FluidSynth

2012-12-07 Thread Kevin Israel
Public bug reported:

Description:
In certain applications, including FluidSynth (and sometimes VLC) yet not
Rhythmbox, the onboard audio of the Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P (rev. 1.0)
motherboard "sort of" works; there is a loud, distorted crackling noise mixed
with the audio. A different, more "ordinary" crackle occurs in audio recorded
using Sound Recorder and Skype.

Both playback and recording in 12.04 and 12.10 are affected. I do not
remember how well the audio worked in 11.10. Sometimes, after some time
has elapsed, or when other applications (e.g. Flash plugin) are opened,
the crackle goes away. In fact, it did go away a couple seconds after I
clicked Apport's "Close" button after reproducing the bug using the
steps below.

Workarounds I tried:
Upgrading to the latest DKMS driver snapshot (dkms-hda -
0.201212071018~quantal1) made no difference. "position_fix=1" made no
difference either (perhaps that was already in use). "position_fix=2" removed
the crackle but caused a sound I can best describe as "CD skipping".

Adding the "tsched=0" setting to /etc/pulse/default.pa did work for
playback. However, this did not fix recording in the aforementioned
applications.

Steps to reproduce (on my hardware):
1. sudo apt-get install fluid-soundfont-gm fluid-soundfont-gs fluidsynth
2. pulseaudio -k
3. fluidsynth -nia pulseaudio /usr/share/sounds/sf2/*.sf2 foo.mid

fluidsynth -nia alsa is also problematic, EXCEPT when I specify "-o
'audio.alsa.device=hw'".

[Bug 1087915] [NEW] Can't combine -o permissions with -o uid=UUU, gid=GGG

2012-12-07 Thread Dan Muresan
Public bug reported:

At the moment, it seems that mount.ntfs-3g disables -o permissions if -o
uid=UUU and/or uid=GGG are also specified. This (combined with Ubuntu's
compilation options disallowing user mounts for NTFS-3g) prevents
unprivileged users from easily accessing NTFS systems while preserving
standard Unix permissions.

root# mount -o uid=500,gid=500,umask=000 /dev/sdb1 /vol/exthd/
root# touch /vol/exthd/x
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/x
-rwxrwxrwx 1 muresan muresan 0 Dec 8 00:29 /vol/exthd/x
root# chmod u-x /vol/exthd/x
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/x
-rwxrwxrwx 1 muresan muresan 0 Dec 8 00:29 /vol/exthd/x

So chmod is ignored and all permissions are fixed to rwx.

With "mount -o permissions", permissions ARE preserved, but all files
are owned by root:

root# mount -o permissions /dev/sdb1 /vol/exthd
Using default user mapping
root# touch /vol/exthd/x
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/x
-rw--w--w- 1 root root 0 Dec 8 00:29 /vol/exthd/x
root# chmod u+x /vol/exthd/x
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/x
-rwx-w--w- 1 root root 0 Dec 8 00:29 /vol/exthd/x
root# rm /vol/exthd/x

root# ls -al /bin/bash
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 920788 Apr 3 2012 /bin/bash
root# cp -a /bin/bash /vol/exthd/
root# ls -al /vol/exthd/bash
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 920788 Apr 3 2012 /vol/exthd/bash
root# umount /vol/exthd

Trying to mount the filesystem as an unprivileged user results in:

Either mount the volume as root, or rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated
FUSE support and make it setuid root. Please see more information at
http://tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-faq/#unprivileged

Opps it appears this bug is not fixed in Lubuntu raring desktop amd64 in
current 20121207.

1) clean entire drive install
2) Attempted along side install failed
3) installed manual install successful
4) attempted another along side install failed

Partitions did not show sizes and I was not able to re-size the partitions.

[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2012-12-07 Thread Josh
I have discovered a useful workaround:

Splashtop.

It is a much more functional remote desktop solution than VNC or Vino.
It has sound. You can play 3D games over it and even Second Life works
beautifully.

And it's available in the Ubuntu Software Center for free.

This really should be the default remote desktop. It blows Microsoft's
Remote Desktop away.

If you need a desktop client it's under "other products" on the
Splashtop App download page.

[Bug 1087883] Re: Sync sbcl 2:1.1.2-1 (universe) from Debian experimental (main)

2012-12-07 Thread Charlie_Smotherman
This bug was fixed in the package sbcl - 2:1.1.1.0-2

---
sbcl (2:1.1.1.0-2) experimental; urgency=low

  * Fix features for non-arch-all builds (Closes: #693682)

 -- Christoph Egger Wed, 28 Nov 2012 18:53:38
-0800

sbcl (2:1.1.1.0-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
  * changes in sbcl-1.1.1 relative to sbcl-1.1.0:
* enhancement: WITH-COMPILATION-UNIT no longer grabs the world-lock.
  (COMPILE and COMPILE-FILE still do.)
* optimization: the SPARC backend now supports the precise generational
(GENCGC) garbage collection. Enabled by default on Solaris/SPARC and
Linux/SPARC. Thanks to Raymond Toy (via CMUCL).
* enhancement: add experimental support for the SB-THREAD feature and the
timer facility on Windows. Thanks to Dmitry Kalyanov and Anton Kovalenko.
Threads are enabled by default, and this version of SBCL is considered
to be the last and final release to officially support building with
  threads disabled.
* optimization: The compiler no longer rotates loops in some cases where
this transformation actually lead to worse code being generated.
* bug fix: SB-CLTL2:MACROEXPAND-ALL correctly handles shadowing of
  symbol-macros by lexical bindings.
* bug fix: stack allocation was prevented by high DEBUG declaration in
  several cases.
* bug fix: SB-EXT:GC-LOGFILE signaled an error when no logfile was set.
  (thanks to SANO Masatoshi)
* bug fix: PARSE-NATIVE-NAMESTRING performed non-native parsing when
  :JUNK-ALLOWED was true.
* bug fix: type derivation inferred overly conservative types for
  unions of array types. (lp#1050768)
  * changes in sbcl-1.1.0 relative to sbcl-1.0.58:
* enhancement: New variable, sb-ext:*disassemble-annotate* for controlling
source annotation of DISASSEMBLE output. Defaults to T.
* enhancement: TIMEOUT arguments added to WITH-MUTEX and
  WITH-RECURSIVE-LOCK, and WAIT-P argument added to WITH-RECURSIVE-LOCK.
* enhancement: SB-EXT:ATOMIC-PUSH and SB-EXT:ATOMIC-POP allow atomic
  operations on list heads.
* enhancement: Optional features (not enabled by default) allow the
use of signals for inter-thread synchronization to be reduced on certain
supported platforms (currently Linux, Solaris, and FreeBSD on x86 and
  x86-64). Set (and :sb-thread :sb-safepoint :sb-thruption :sb-wtimer)
to test these experimental features. Known remaining bugs include minor
thread safety issues, less timely freeing of memory by GC, and certain
(not yet optimally low) runtime overhead. Thanks to Anton Kovalenko.
* optimization: CL:SORT and CL:STABLE-SORT of lists are faster and use fewer
  comparisons, particularly on almost-sorted inputs.
* bug fix: Reading floats with large exponents no longer takes too much time
before reporting that the exponent is too large.
* bug fix: SB-BSD-SOCKETS:SOCKET-RECEIVE with a UDP socket now works
correctly when the received datagram is larger than the provided buffer.
  (lp#1023438, thanks to Robert Uhl)
* bug fix: SB-EXT:GET-CAS-EXPANSION returned a bogus read-form when given
a SYMBOL-VALUE form with a constant symbol argument.
* bug fix: SB-EXT:GET-CAS-EXPANSION signaled an error when a macro expanding
into a DEFCAS defined place was used as the place.
* bug fix: FIND and POSITION signaled a type-error when non-bits where
  looked for from bit-vectors.
* bug fix: a race condition around thread creation could (in SBCL 1.0.57)
lead to internal errors or crashes (lp#1058799).
* documentation: a section on random number generation has been added to the
  manual. (lp#656839)

 -- Christoph Egger Fri, 16 Nov 2012 19:10:02
-0800

sbcl (2:1.0.58.0-1) experimental; urgency=low

  * changes in sbcl-1.0.58 relative to sbcl-1.0.57:
* enhancement: implicit generic function warnings now specify the package
in which the new generic function is being created.
* enhancement: SB-EXT:ATOMIC-UPDATE makes it easy to perform non-destructive
updates of CAS-able places (similar to Clojure's swap!).
* enhancement: run-program no longer decodes and re-encodes environment when
:environment argument is not provided. (lp#985904)
* enhancement: errors during compiler-macro expansion no longer cause
runtime errors, only a compile-time warning, otherwise behaving as if
the compiler macro had declined to expand.
* optimization: On x86-64, code alignment of block headers is done with
multi-byte NOPs now instead of repetitions of the single-byte NOP.
* optimization: MAP-INTO is substantially faster when the target sequence is
of unknown type; mapping into lists is no longer O(N^2). (thanks to James
  M. Lawrence)
* optimization: the compiler no longer heap-conses to check exits in cases
where the exit function is dynamic extent, or when it can pro

[Bug 1087905] Re: no audio output device with ens1371

ok, situation solved I think: I did a cold reboot, shut it down, let it
sit for a few minutes, then restarted the machine, and voila, I have
sound -- so this was, as they say, "stray capacitance" (ie, wtf I dunno)

sorry, seems to be a false alarm, although I did learn alot about

[Bug 1087911] [NEW] Totem locks up right after clicking play on a dvd menu.

2012-12-07 Thread Robin Hicks
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 12.10 32bit (clean install) with totem 3.4.3-0ubuntu5.
I have all appropriate codecs installed. When I put in a dvd the menu
comes up fine but when I click on play, on the dvd menu, it immediately
locks up. I don't think it's a hardware issue because everything worked
fine when I had 12.04 installed...Thanks!
